I dropped my phone I was laughing so hard when you were talking about the mailman!
@Nick Piscitelli Maybe to make sure the opposite side was exactly the same so the pipes fit through straight
Wranglerstar wish more UA-camrs were like you consistent and quality content
If you wasn't a man of fath that helmet would had gotten a good cussing lol
Thank you so much for getting people such a good deal! My family got together and we bought some about two years back and by the grace of God haven't needed it yet. I know you know but please ignore all the people that blast you and give you such a hard time. I enjoy your videos! Thanks and keep up the good work.
"If discretion is the better part of valor, then sharing your welds on UA-cam is the better part of courage." That is hilarious! Quote of the Year.
An educated man I see, Thanks C.A.
For sure. Show welds or cutting a tree down on
UA-cam and people will tear you apart in the comments
I'm a pipeline welder, and I won't even share my welds on here. That statement is soooooo true, I had to play it for my wife, she laughed!
Grinder and paint makes me the welder I ain't! I see bbq black in the future now..
The way I see it, Cody's gotten to that point where he could show darn near anything and we'd watch it lol.
I love it when Cody talks to himself sometimes during these vids “this is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life” 😂
First sign of madness 🙄 , hope he s ok
Mine was named Hilda. Man was she ugly.
Of course I talk to myself... sometimes I need expert advice
I was lol. Too relateable
@@geoffreyhoran7396 Please say your joking.
The simplest of thing makes such a big difference, like using a smaller pipe to guide the bigger one through.
I was really impressed by that idea!
I concur!!🤣🤣 Us ‘East coasters’, would call that ‘Yankee ingenuity’!!😁
Glad I'm not the only one to appreciate a simple idea that I had never thought of. Props!
If you have more pipe, that center circle is screaming out to me.
I thought that was absolutely brilliant!!!
My favorite part is the end where the recommended videos covered up his welds. I seriously admire this mans trolling capabilities! :)
yeah, that got a genuine chuckle out of me
Lmao!
@thefilth thefury You lost me at Allah. Sorry
?
They didn’t get covered up when I watch it. The video was shoved all the way to the bottom part of it was literally cut off I wonder if he moved it later or something 🤷🏼♂️
Looked like you were throwing down a ghostbusters trap with the 220 plug. The rant with the helmet had me rolling. 100% me trying to do that lol.
I'm watching ghost busters for the first time while reading this comment. They just captured their first ghost in the hotel. Unbelievable timing!
“This is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life.”
Oh I was rolling! Great video Cody
I love how polite you are at the starts and ends of your videos
My great grandfather built his own house. The insert he used for his fireplace worked the same way. We still own the the house and I love that fireplace.
Keep up the good work, you're doing great.
I think we may well be moving back to a time when all men had skills and competence and self reliance and masculinity. that or humanity chooses extinction.
The welding helmet scene was hilarious! Thanks for laugh !!
Wait, what?! The video ended? That wasn't part of the deal! I was so emotionally invested in this stove getting built. I literally stopped what I was doing, and then unconsciously put everything down and got super comfortable, just imagining how toasty that stove would make any room.
Mr. W, you make some very interesting content, that I wholeheartedly have been enjoying having recently found your channel.
So much ingenuity on this channel. Even though I will probably never make this exact wood stove, it will help guide my future choices now that you have passed on your wisdom by showing us how you do most of your awesome work!
Lol - "I'm not that guy.", and "I won't be content until I break something". I can relate to both of those situations.
Cody, I love it. Your like a brother I never had. After your opening comment, I couldn't quit laughing..Thanks for another great video! As always, your the man. God bless you, and your family!
Pretty sure I laughed out loud twice. Love the humor because it’s real humor , not contrived. Long time subscriber - love your videos.
I love these heat exchangers. Brilliant. I think you could have done like a 4x4 grid of 16 pipes, but still a great improvement from the last one
Cody, I was impressed by the way you lined up the pipes, if it was me doing this job I would probably have used full length tubing and tag welded each tube in place before using the plasma cutter to trim them to length and then finish off the welds round each pipe, before moving on to the next one, so I bow down to your skill set.
Hahaha this was an awesome video! That helmet construction was comedy gold!
"Love that Miller blue!" Spot on!
Couldn't be better timing for this! We need to build one of these for our pole barn since we plan to pull the trailer in it for winter while we build! Thank you for the video!
I always love how I pick up little tricks when I watch your videos. You are braver than most showing the welds on youtube hehe. Thanks for showing us :)
I really felt it when he said "Oh don't worry I'll get it in." That last step before insanity when you've lost all reason, and you plant that flag and say yes I'm going to die on this hill if necessary, but I'm going to beat this thing.
My first job was screen printing the logos on pieces of “Miller blue” sheet metal, thousands and thousands of pieces of miller blue sheet metal...
We’ve had the same setup in the shop for as long as I can remember. It works incredible the added airflow is impressive.
I needed that chuckle this morning. I get so frustrated when something that I take apart easily doesn't just snap back together. Glad to see I'm not the only one. Keep up the great videos cody!
Never thought I watch your show for comedy. You making fun of those haters cracks me up keep doing what you're doing. 😂👍
Use a exhaust pipe expander to bell the ends of the tubing locking it in place, then weld.
If you look at 00:34 you can see what looks like an old exhaust reamer.
Nice tip
@@crazydad6119 thats what she said
Awesome tip. I kept waiting for one of the tubes to slide down inside the barrel
My thought was use the smaller hole saw then flare (or roll) the edge of the hole out to make a snug fit. But, I'm mister overthink overkill.
9:43 Oh boy does that bring back memories.
Standing on top of a very steep hill welding gates off a generator on my folks farm.
The tension screws weren't holding my welding lid up and it kept falling down over my face while I was trying to set up the electrode.
I had my arm drawn back to thow it down the hill before realising it would be a 15 minute hike to retrieve it.
Deep breaths, carry on....
Love the subtle humor you throw in your videos. Enjoy them all. Keep up the good work.
I'm about 30 seconds from throwing this in the fire 😂
Brett Bond 🤣🤣
"This is the hardest thing I've ever done in my life".. I laughed out loud because just last week I was replacing the shield on my face Shield mask and I couldn't snap the darn thing in place. I'm in my garage yelling and I thought to myself this is one of the hardest projects I've ever attempted😂😂. Thank for another great video. God bless all.
I need the rest of this video tomorrow at the earliest! But really good job with your patience. I’d have thrown that thing in the trash way before I ever got it back together. Thanks for the lesson today.
Can't wait to see part 2. Looks like a really efficient set up
"Did he say mailman?" Haha and the comments after were amazing.
Cody, I love your unapologetic nature. Keep up the great work!
Probably the most entertaining video I've seen in a long time. Your humor level is great. You gave me a couple big belly laughs. Thank you.
I built a very similar top barrel for my workshop wood heater. Only I near filled the top barrel with pipe, leaving 1 inch spacing between pipes. Enclosed the back side with a 4 inch hole for the input pipe from a medium size fan, to feed air into the barrel heat exchanger from the back side and hot air out the front. I found that I needed 15' of chimney above the top barrel to pull a draft, and the unit is amazing at how it heats my entire 1400 sq/ft workshop in the dead of winter. Outside it can be -35c, and in the workshop I'm in a T-shirt. The air flow means no cold spots, and even heat from floor to ceiling.
"DID HE JUST SAY MAILMAN". and the response to that made me an instant subscriber. 👍
Have you thought about trying small computer fans on each tube vs the box fan? They could be powered by a thermocouple heated by the stove itself.
However the "box store box fan" is certainly an elegantly easy solution. :D
Looking forward to seeing it in action!!!!
Travel and wire speed are everything and then just lots of practice IT took me a bit in college but it will come now I can weld both left and right hand just takes time good job
Got to the mailman convo instantly stopped the video and liked and subscribed @45 seconds in. Well done
“…rending their garments and tearing their hair...” Oh my goodness, I laughed so hard. Thank you for that!
Lol that mailman thing had me laughing so hard.
The mailman joke quickly let me know I was in the right place. lol Subbed. :D
Thank you for that welding hood clip. I’m starting to think you’re a master of the editing skills Mr wranglerstar!!!
I love that you put your struggles on the videos and poke fun at them. Especially knowing there will be people out there that try and bring you down over it. Always love your videos.
Ryan Pitkin correct, and they have already. He knows UA-cam and how engagement works!
You can tell from the sound of the weld if its going good. and from the sound of the weld you was doing it was a bit off from a good weld.
I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and research on so many of your videos. You are an excellent teacher!
One of my favorite Wranglerstar videos of all time! Love the music and the frustration with the helmet at the end. Great heating project for the common homesteader.
“This is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life!” 😅🤣😂
I absolutely love the snarkiness! Hahahah "showing your welds on UA-cam is the better part of valor". Hahahahahahah
Love the way you figured out the pipe placement. Engenuity at its finest. Even brought out the protractor😀
Great videos like always Cody. I built a stove very similar to yours and I ran the chimney at a low slope above my work bench and used light gage stainless steel above it to reflect the heat down on my work space worked great 👍
"What in the cat hair is going on here!?" HAhaaha
Man, Cody really made my day with that little rant! My eyes are watering from laughing.
When you defined "mailman" I hit subscribe and thumbs up! : )
9.00 - 10.00 time frame gave me a chuckle, I enjoyed the snap editing Cody. Thanks for sharing!
I have done this but had used more and larger tubes. With only 6 tubes I would have placed then on the upper half of the drum as that is the hottest part of the chamber and would be the most efficient use of your energy. I recommend putting the top outlet on the opposite end of the drum from the inlet, and for internal turbulence have the outlet side slightly lower than the inlet. Note - you must have the chamber completely sealed to do it this way or you will have exhaust gas seeping into your living/working area. Good job Cody, thanks for sharing!
Had a barrel stove back in the 80s. Yes, it is all about surface area. I always wondered why some one didn’t just tack weld a bunch of rebar all over one and call it The Hedgehog.
OldKbellGuy 🤣🤣
That's next weeks build, lol
“What in the cat hair is going on here!” That’s awesome! 😂
You make great videos. Seriously. Really great. Content, style, composition, length, lighting, wholesomeness, intellectual curiousity AND honesty, I could go on. MOAR.
This thing is so cool. I dig this project a lot. As an engineer it was entertaining watching you pull the protractor out.
Yes, always have a few moments for some Beethoven. THE Rock Star of the Classical era.- Amen Brother on the welding. I was forced to teach myself (job demanded it) how to weld with an old Buzz Box Stick welder, MIG welders were just coming out and Very Expensive. Talk about a huge learning curve.
What song was that during the protractor layout of the wholes?
@@jeffharris7144 Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata"
@@Titus-as-the-Roman Thank you!!!
"Mail Carrier" I don't mind delivering 50 gallon barrels and memory foam mattresses. 😉
I delivered and loaded a lot of heavy stuff working for UPS.
I don't remember what they were but there were these enormous barrel shaped things we would have to load on the semis right at the end and your need help getting them on the truck and then you'd have to roll them around to reposition them because they were so big.
Delivered a lot of particleboard furniture kits by myself with no dolly. It sucked at times. But I can understand a USPS worker being upset given Cody's location and I don't think y'all usually handle stuff that big.
Using that EMT conduit to help guide in the 2" exhaust tubing was brilliant 👍
I came back to comment. This is the first video I have seen of yours. Since this, I have watched 15 of your videos. Keep up the good life.
I was at the store, and the storeperson called a connector "male" and one "female" so offensive. I stormed out. I only use gender neutral connectors.
How dare you assume the gender of the connectors! They are fluid and can be whatever they feel like! LOL
It's not "mail man" its "Male woman"😁
Lol
Literally laughed out loud. Good one. You made my day. I don't get out much ;-)
RogueShadowTCN Anderson Power Poles???
Been a subscriber for ~10 years now. It will NEVER cease to impress me how brave you are. Doing metal work on UA-cam AND admitting you're not the best of all time... Wow! I can't imagine the comments that come your way. Keep it up!
You left me hanging brother! Can't wait to see the barrel. I just got my two barrels a couple of days ago. I've got to get my parts. Thanks for teaching in a good way. As always keep walking with our KING!!
It's so very nice to see you building this, and also share your struggle. Since I am technician i see things that you could do a little smarter on the measuring part, dividing a circle into six equal pieces without even bothering with a gauge or measuring tape or so. For the welding as well, there is lots of improvement, and I would be very happy to teach, but that is not the point. Do you know the saying that my hands are tickling? This video is making me happy that some day the shop will be hot and cozy again. I would call it substitutional happiness.. ;-)
I hear the Foose welding helmet adds 50hp to every weld.
*You had me at UA-cam Thumbnail* 👍🎥🎬📹🔥
Wow Cody that’s some impressive math and angle finding that you did ON CAMERA! Well done!
Whenever I use the hole saw, I clutch the drill (especially when drilling using the installed pilot bit popping through) so when it grabs, it doesn't break a tooth off. It takes longer, but saves your bits.
We all felt the frustration at the end when you conveniently placed the end cards on your practice weld. Ha!
Finally, a perfect example for kids why learning geometry is definitely relevant to your life.
thorzyan : Yeah, cuz it’s super important that the tubing is spaced perfectly, in case someone ever checks it with a caliper someday
Mark Pool as long as they're not metric calipers 🤣🤣
Seriously though, beyond the pride of work of making an aesthetically pleasing piece, you need perfect symmetry to maximize the Venturi effects peak efficiency. It's science.
Lov the sarcasm in the beginning this is a great build. Really nice job on this channel.
I agree about sharing our welds on UA-cam but I was laughing like crazy about the battery change I have been there! Looks like a awesome heater coming
"What in the cat hair is going on here?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Best quote ever
"What in the cat hair" Love it
May I use that? :D
Peace
Ah well I didn’t get to see you finish your project today on your new barrel but I have to say thank you for sharing this DYI BECAUSE IT’S SO AWESOME!! 👍
Ha! I love that you show your trials on video. Sometimes it feels like no matter how meticulous the planning, the project just can't go smoothly.
“Is there anything prettier than Miller blue?”....... Yes, yes there is. Lincoln red.
Miller for plug in shop machines. Lincoln for gas mobile welder.
"What in the cat hair" lol
Your videos inspire me to do more around my house. Plus good fun to have a laugh or two as well.
Wonderful. That’ll be my project for this summer before winter.
Looks like the Milwaukee couldn't handle a little work had to switch to the big boy Dewalt💪
Oh boy here we go!
This Milwaukie drill really sucks, my first and last Milwaukie,
@@wranglerstar agreed
Bam MasterJ813 lol ok bro
My Milwaukee has outlasted two of my neighbor's Dewalts, and I use mine far more than he uses his. You must have got a bad one. CS for Milwaukee is amazing, give them a call. Worst case scenario, it's video content.
I want to see those welds! Perhaps you and I could have an amateur welding competition LOL
That would be a very sporting competition between your channels!
You haven’t put enough welding in your videos for me to judge who would win
I’d be down for an amateur welding competition. I guarantee you that I do the most amateur welds you’ve ever seen. Grinder and paint make me the welder I ain’t.
Robert Beattie That saying is true for so many of us LOL I like to think mine are at least presentable LOL
Torqued Up I learned/am learning doing tig. 90% of what we have at work is stainless so I had to learn that first.😳
Covering up those welds at the end was dastardly! We'll see them soon enough!
The way you edited the welding helmet debacle was wicked funny.
You have a good sense of comedic timing. Always enjoy the production level you bring, man.
I could see myself using some choice language in that moment.
You handled it well, at least on camera.. Haha
Neat thing about hexagons, there are 6 equilateral triangles in one and all of the sides of these equilateral triangles is equal to the radius of the circle that they are located in. So once you draw your circle, take the radius of that circle and start walking it around the circle and you'll end up with a perfect hexagon.
bc65925 Genius!
"Is tehre anything more beautiful than that Miller Blue?" Yes... Lincoln Red.
Dresdon Acacin I have an Airco welder that will give either a run for thier money, but I would give an eyetooth for a bullet welder I could hook to a Continental engine out of a forklift and make it so it will run on gasoline or Woodgas .
@@beckywatt5048 you might like a Lincoln Ranger series welder/generator
Dresdon Acacin The really cool thing with a bullet style welder is that it's 3ph and has a,100%duty cylcle , as far as welding goes there is absolutely no comparison to a 3ph welder .I actually have a friend that has his dialed down to a particular brand of rod for his stick welder .If memory serves me correctly only the Big 40 is 3ph .
Purple!
I owed an older small commercial box version of the heat exchanger concept. It went in line with the stove pipe so it could be used with any wood stove. One feature which was important was a plate on the inside attached to a plunging-pulling rod which the pipes ran through. As you moved the plate back and forth by pushing and pulling on the rod, it would clean the creosote buildup off the heat exchange pipes from the inside. Because it was so efficient at removing the heat from the flue gases the creosote would condense on the pipes and had to be removed daily. The heat you could recover was amazing. Above the exchanger you could put your hand on the stove pipe and it was only warm to the touch. I had to wait to turn on the fan until after the unit heated up to get a good draw going first. I highly recommend using a heat exchanger of this type with your wood-stove.
(My unit finally met it's demise when a roommate stoked a roaring fire in the wood-stove and fell asleep without turning on the fan. When I came home the unit was glowing red hot. The heat was so intense, the heat exchange pipes sagged so the cleaning plate would not work. In a short period of time, the creosote buildup was so thick that the unit would not pull the heat out of the flue gases. To solve that problem, I would recommend a thermal coupling switch which would turn the unit's fan on when it reached a certain temperature. Mine was older and did not have one. Also, the unit was welded so there was no way to access the inside or replace the tubes easily. ahhh well.)
@Wranglerstar - I always tell people that when cutting the holes for the pipes,, to cut the front normally, but the backside the pipes should be cut so the holes are 2+ inches lower. and the pipes in the back extend out a couple inches farther than the ones in the front. Purpose: the holes in the back are intakes, so when the stove is lite the pipes are heated and since heat rises it automatically draws air from the back the air is then superheated and blown out the front. it's far more effective than the simple straight pipe.
Mailman, how dare you!
In Gretta's voice
Mailman is sexist; mailperson sexist too. You have to say "unisex-person".
oh my word!!!! I had to replay the video at the 33-38 second mark 4 times...... lol I think Im going to write that down.... lol
Salty CowGirl 🤣🤣
You make tremendously good content. You demonstrate a type of assertive humility that I think is a virtue in anyone, and all too uncommon. You and I share very few similar opinions about the world in general, but you model work behavior that is outstanding and you embody the kind of person I could find common ground with, regardless of our differences, because it's easy to respect somebody who doesn't suffer from narcissism and a compulsive need for self-aggrandizement. Thank you for doing that, and carrying yourself in the manner with which you do.
Rendering their garments, tearing hair and sitting in sackcloth and ashes, indeed. lol
Agreed
By far one of the best chuckles I've had in a while.
Lord that ending was hilarious
I identify as a wood stove and this whole video is so offensive to me.
J dawg 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I also identify as a wood stove ,but I'm stoked... what?
Stop blowing your hot air... smh
This comment is under appreciated
I was born a wood stove but now identify as a propane coal hybrid fire pit.
Don't label me. Reeeeee.
@5:45 just to clarify, when you add the fan you go from free convection to forced convection. Conduction would be if you made physical contact with the barrels themselves to transfer heat. Whether forced or free, convection is basically just the conduction of heat from the metal drum to the surrounding fluid (air) then from that fluid to you. Please note, this is all based off of my memory of my heat transfer classes and may not be word for word definitions.
