    This seriously had me sitting down, thinking about my early 20's, when I had the best time of my life. Good friends, good laughs, we lived hard and partied even harder. I'm now 37, all those friends and times are gone, a brief memory in the sands of time. I freaking miss you guys, we sure had a hell of a time. I just hope you're all doing well and haven't forgotten about me too. When our ride is over, I'll do my best to come find you.

      Absolutely. DSM, WYWH, and Animals are all pieces to listen to as single, individual pieces of music. Almost like symphonies (I guess). You can listen to, and enjoy little bits, but the business aspects of recorded music forced the division of those albums into individual tracks. There is no gap between those tracks either.

      The brain assesses length/size/mass proportionally and in relation to other things. So when you’re 5 years old, a year is 20% of your life. When you’re 50, a year is 2% of your life. That’s why years seem shorter as you get older.

      @marcribe6483 4 роки тому +15

      I grew up in America but in the mids of my teen years really fell for and dove into the love for British bands, starting with the Beatles. The way I see it, American rock really embraces the joys of life. You can say Chuck Berry typifies this with all his songs about youth dilemma's like school, cars and approaching the opposite sex. This partially has to do with the economic high the States had in the 50's thru 70's. Meanwhile British rock was more about the everyday hardships of finding a job, finding your place, and basically fighting against the imposed social structures that curtailed the "don't haves" of the English population. Which is what those kids had to deal with, during the sixties mostly. That difference between American and British rock in the beginning made for very different types of rock bands. Americans have more rouge geniuses, I feel (Bob Dylan, Velvet Underground, Frank Zappa to name a few). The Brits having the more music concept changing bands (Beatles, Floyd, Led Zep, etc.). Of course I don't see this as the absolute truth on the matter. Just my two cents in the hat sort of speak.

    Last fathers day, my daughter got me the book "Pink Floyd, All the Songs, the Story Behind Every Track". Thick book but it covers every song, album and movie soundtrack they did.
    You mentioned the sound of the drums, Nick Mason for the first time used Roto-Toms.
    Gilmour plays his legendary black Strat ali g with Binson Echorec 2 to get that reverb sound.
    Alan Parsons produced this album and he recorded all the alarm sounds on a using a portable tape recorder.
    Of course the backing vocals is what makes Pink Floyd music sound so good, the harmonies of these singers provide so much to their music.

      Arnaldo Alves It's a contraction for "I *had*." So, "thought I had something more to say," which is just incredibly sad.
      The time is gone, the song is over, his life is at its end, and looking back he is filled with regret. He always thought he would have more time, and so he didn't value it like he should have. Ultimately, his life was unimportant, he had made no difference in the world, or to anyone else. After his whole life, his song, was over and in the past, and there was no more future, no time left, he discovers with disappointment that he never said, had never done, anything worth remembering.

Nothing like it before or since. Do a little research on the song before you listen to it. No lyrics, but speaks volumes!!!

      Yes, this. You already have an idea how deep it is. The more you listen, especially the whole album through and in order as the band intended, the more it seeps into you. The lyrics are genius and would make great poetry just stark words on a page, but presented as a package with the evocative & brilliant music, it becomes soul food.

    There are few albums that literally capture an entire vibe and make you think about truths. 'Dark Side of the Moon' is a true masterpiece, each song can stand on it's own. But, in that same breathe if you just sit and listen to the entire album. Woah, it's wickedly awesome. It would be cool to watch you react to the entire set altogether. I think it's like an hour long in it's entirety. They are different but it's absolutely freakin' awesome.
