    Hello, I came across your channel by chance because I'm interested in timber framing. I'm a metal worker :-)
    What you're doing is very impressive and you can hardly find anything like it here.
    I'm currently watching all of your videos one after the other and I can't get enough of them.
    Keep it up... best wishes from Germany

    Great system! A suggestion-if one wished to add the option of turning (rolling)a log the "other way(cut side towards where the blade comes from) one could put another pulley mounted on your top beam,above the" front "side of the mill.( -to save blade wear,from cutting through dirty bark on the blade entry side). One would need to use one of the pulleys where the wheel is attached only on one side (forget what they are called) ,like one uses for a redirect when skidding. That way,one could just use a long board notched/slotted at the end to put the winch line onto the added pulley,or take it off,if one wished to turn a log the"other way".(and not have to"thread the line through" the other pulley high up on the beam)....might still be a bit tricky to get the line in place on the pulley,i have never tried this,though.....hope I'm communicating this in a way one can understand.
    Thanks so much for sharing what you do on utube!

    • @TwoGuysTimberframing
      @TwoGuysTimberframing  4 місяці тому

      You could rig up another pulley or just snatch your log in the other direction to roll in reverse. I cut big logs and I only roll towards my posts for security and for squaring. It’s kind dangerous as the log can come off the mill. I only turn my small logs in reverse only if I use a Cant Hook. Thanks for watching! 🤠👍

    Thanks for the video. Great points, but I work alone and have struggled with clamping off one end and trying to peavy the other end. I'm still going back & forth several times to get it located. I'm out in the open without a shed yet & work off the Woodlander XL trailer. Any suggestions would be helpful and much appreciated.

    • @TwoGuysTimberframing
      @TwoGuysTimberframing  3 місяці тому

      Thank you. I work alone a lot is why I develop this winch system years ago. If you don’t have your shed up yet , should be your first project so all other projects go smoothly. Check out the video of making your mill shed work for you.
      Now in the past when we were cutting out in the Boone docks I would find a big tree with a strong enough arm on it and park the mill under it and rig up the winch system the same as I have it here. And use it that way, that’s another reason I use my truck winch to be Mobil if need be. Just make sure the tree you pick and arm you pick is strong enough. I have always tried to find an oak but it depends on what you have around you and your mill. Time to build a work shed for you so you don’t have to struggle. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Thx for the vid. Really great tips and ideas using what you have and your brain. Great shed, simple but really robust. Open air for best ventilation. Need to build one similar. I noticed your front left post seems to be on some sort of concrete pier. I couldn't see the rest, a little buried under sawdust. Are some of them deep into the soil or all on concrete piers? Are they fixed to the pier with some sort of bar or rod with lag bolt or simply weight pf the structure holding them there?

    • @TwoGuysTimberframing
      @TwoGuysTimberframing  4 місяці тому

      All my posts sit on concrete piers these have rebar posts up into the Timber. This building I did not put tie downs in yet. Been three years so I don’t seam concerned. Massive Weight of this building it’s not going anywhere. You could put bolt on tie downs of timberlynx tie downs when you install. I don’t bury my posts in soil unless I have to for some reason. They will rot at some point. Thank you for Watching and Commenting👍🤠

    Hey, can you give a more detailed video about your sawmill shed itself? It looks perfect to me, and I'd like to replicate it in every way. Curious about the tree's used(especially where the winch is mounted). Are these tree's that were already on the property? Or did you bury them in the ground yourself and if so how deep? With cement? An entire overview would be great. Love the channel, learned a lot.

    • @TwoGuysTimberframing
      @TwoGuysTimberframing  6 місяців тому +1

      Ok I will try and put something together for that. All of the trees used were from my property. All White Oak except for roof rafters. Oak beam in center for winch support. Not buried in the ground sit on 24” piers of cement with a rod in center going up the post. Thanks for Watching and we will put something up for you. @@TwoGuysTimberframing I live in the burn scar of the caldor fire in California. I have fir, pine, cedar, and a little oak. I've done them all over the last two years. Started out just using the overhead winch for turning the logs and a separate winch for rolling them up on the mill. Realized a couple of months ago, I could do both with just the overhead winch. I have a wireless remote on the winch so if the log gets a little wonky on the ramps, I can sit on my tractor and lift one end while operating the winch. I don't have any helpers so I've needed to figure out how to do it solo.

      I’m sorry buddy I miss read your message but that’s a good idea with the tractor instead of using the second winch don’t really need that much anyway. I spent over 20 years in the Arizona backwoods and I’ve actually used this method and carved it in the live trees and work myself. We had a lot of ponderosa pine and juniper I’ve been lucky enough to move to Tennessee and I’m loaded with oak big oak. Thanks for sharing I’m sure there’s more of us out there that figured out how to use it with the overhead Winch nice job!👍🤠

    Great idea and setup! by far less expensive than most options. Harder to do for off-grid/remote locations unless you have an alternator/generator to power the winch, but still doable. Technically this isn't automated though, as you are still performing the functions manually, so it's more mechanized more than anything.
