Yeah, the removable processors went away with the older core 2 duo and earlier intel core series processors. Nowadays, I guess they soldier the chips to the motherboard both as a cost saving measure and to lean towards planned obsolescence. It's a shame really, because especially with gaming laptops a cpu upgrade can really breathe new life into an aging system. It also forces end users to purchase higher end models that come with i7 or ryzen 7 processors because we know that is no longer an upgradable part. And in order to get a gaming laptop with a higher end processor they force you to pay for a bunch of higher end options that you may not be able to afford up front. That's why I prefer desktop systems.
I have a laptop that has removable CPU and GPU and also RAM. The last is also becoming a habbit to see it soldered to the motherboard. The good thing is that now it is maxxed out with 32GB of Ram, an 3rd Gen I7 extreme CPU at 4,2GHz and TWO GPUS 980m GTX with 16GB of Video ram. Obsolete Tech, but so cool.....
Nice restoration and upgrades, that old CPU looked to be a T2xxx series CPU so the T7200 is much better. I put an SSD into an older HP 6820s laptop (T7250, 4GB, 128GB, ATI Radeon), if you look online you can get cheap 120GB or 240GB SSDs. They're still more expensive than hard drives but are well worth it even on Windows 7. (For XP laptops I would stay with a hard drive.)
Great video! But: A SSD is ALWAYS worth it. ALWAYS! You can find 120gb SSDs (used or new) for dirt cheap. And i would install a leightweight Linux on this machine. (Mint Xfce just for example) To browse the web, read books and listen to music there is no need to hassle with Windows
Great, inspiring video, Andrew! Near the beginning, I think what you should have said is "the wires are very delicate so I need to be gentle with them." I'll go work on some old ThinkPads now.😊
I love watching Andrew's restoration videos. It's feels therapeutic to watch someone with his enthusiasm and resourcefulness tear these older systems down, clean them, upgrade them, and make them into the best versions of themselves. It really makes for great content, if you see this, thanks Andrew!
Have you considered installing Linux OS' onto these old laptops? Not only are many Linux distros very efficient, but they can be an extra addition to all the upgrades you put into things you decide to rebuild. Personally, Mint has been very swell of an experience to me on my lowspec laptop, so perhaps it could benefit you and many others aswell.
Yeah. My 2nd gen Chromebook works 1,000 times better and is way cheaper compared to that piece of junk Asus laptop! The frame rate, battery life, and quality from Asus are all garbage! Never buy an Asus Laptop!
Great Video give out some good tips and ideas how to repair things like me watch video of the teardown of the same modal to not miss things so mistakes are not made
Congratulations on the channel, I've been following you for a long time! I really like the content. One question, where are you from? Because I saw an Anatel seal on the wifi module (company responsible for communication approval in Brazil). Big hug from Brazil!
Drivers Collection? SamDrivers are good in my opinion... I have 2 unziped iso on my pendrive 128GB. They have iso for new computers ( with new versions of drivers ) and iso for older computers ( with working older versions of drivers for this older computers).
What a coincidence when you installed windows 7 as this post on 13th of January 2023 where last support windows 7 was 14th of January 2020. RIP windows 7 you'll be missed. :')
Did you install Windows 7 because of just 4 gb of RAM ? seems to run good on it... unlike Windows 10/11 from what i habe seen. Maybe try to revive a Laptop with some Linux OS ?
@@ComputersAndTechAndAndrew all power to you, bro! Thank you 🤓 I found what is left of either an Acer or Asus laptop, but half the keys are gone, the bottom cover is missing, the screen to main body hinge is messed up, I think the touchscreen might be missing, a support system for the DVD player is gone... No HDD, no RAM.... Not sure what to do with it! But I plugged a charger into it and a couple lights come on!
hey men i been watching your video.. i have a question i upgrade may lenovo laptop to celeron into intel core i3 after that may lenovo just suddenly shutt off itself after 30 mins... pls reply man question.. thank you and advance
Another terrific laptop repair upload Andrew 💪🥰🤯. Love your content and enjoy every episode😇! Great to see these wasted 🗑laptops being recycled/ refurbished ♻. I would get a budget no frills SATA SSD 120/240gb and make this laptop feel like a new modern laptop with zippy speeds 🚄🚤🏎

hi, andrew.. meet me Hasanudin, from Indonesia. I need to donate a laptop for my work. in 2023 we are having a crisis so not being able to buy tools makes my work easier and faster. I hope you can consider it
ooohhh how many laptops i've had to tear down almost completely to just clean and re thermal paste.......let me count the ways! i feel your pain andrew
I watch your videos I have very noisy fan on hp 350 g2 laptop I have cleaned all the dust but still is noisy it is sealed can you give me a solution to fix this
damn, now it looks i need to check the trash bins more and i usually using cajuput oil to soften the paste, using any hard stuff to remove the paste is the last of the last if everything not works
Love to see older laptops get repaired and have new life breathed into them. Hopefully one day I can obtain an older laptop and do some repairs on it. 👀👍
6:22 when thermal paste is that solid, usually I use contact clean (dunno how to call it in english) in a microfiber cloth or paper, it kind of melts the thermal paste
Definitely one of the best UA-cam tech channel’s out there I have been a subscriber for years now. Andrew keep doing what you’re doing I enjoy your content 👍👍👍👍
crazy seeing a removable CPU along with all the fun bits like cpu dies thermal paste and silver tap
back in the day this was common place, oh how times have changed.

awesome repair Andrew, saved working parts from the landfill and I hope you were able to recycle what was no longer working.
I'm trying to do something, but something that cannot be repaired I know someone who do recycling, in general nothing is wasted :D
The mix of antistatic glass cleaner + isopropyl alcohol should be call Andrew cleansing mixture 😅
Finally seeing Andrew face to face
😎😁
+1
Nice work ! Unfortunately, the laptop's screen seems to be a low gamut model.
ì am seeing your videos for many years and i always thought you are a teenager by your voice :) ... love your videos.. want to see more ..
4GB of RAM, maybe this laptop should be using Linux?

Love your channel Andrew great content i myself do laptops like you it’s a great hobby ❤
This man has helped a great deal. Thank you Andrew.
Mr Andrew The Best!!! Thanks For Your Great Videos!!! Excellent Restoration And Upgrades!!! Saludos Desde Bs As ARG!!!
Amazing video! Eagerly Waiting for the second laptop:D
I've seen super dry thermal paste like that before, it's difficult to remove! I usually use a plastic spudger with a flat side to scrape it off.
This one is like a fossil :D
from iraq watching you hebibi 💖🇮🇶
Hey Andrew! Make an toshiba laptop to all in one pc!
Quality content andrew, pretty satisfying keep it up!
This man has helped a great deal. Thank you Andrew.
6:30 I had luck with isopropyl alcohol. You soak the old thermal paste many times and it could become soft again.
I have tried that before, but this is toooo dry
Everything is possible with Andrew 😂
Just asking, what happened to the previous restoration? Did you sell it or not?
As i remember, he didnt sell his projects

Loved the video and it is great to see the face behind the camera.
great videos as always 😃😃
I currently use Asus Laptop, but mine using more Modern Hardware, Slimmer and Lighter design, and fairly easy to disassembly
You can use alcohol to melt the hardened thermal paste, it always works for me.
Same for me

You're removing too much low end frequencies from voiceover and bringing high end ones very high.. It's not pleasant for ears to listen..
A Classic restoration🌹Enjoyed the show🌹Thank you⭐️
I'm surprised by the face cam, my suggestion would be to have a dedicated light to your face to avoid those racoon eye shadow
