It's not even that time consuming. You can download whole rom sets for different consoles that have every game released for that console. With most emulators you don't even have to extract the roms.
@@terrificformulawell back in the day (I’m talking 10-20 years ago when us old timers started using emulators, maybe even farther back) it was extremely time consuming to get all the games you wanted and set up on everything. I’ve got my library backed up on 2 drives in my PC, my NAS, and an external hard disk. I’d cry if I lost all my years spent cultivating my library. This seems like a good option for someone who just wants to play some cool old games. There’s a lot of junk and copies on here, games I would never touch. That’s the main advantage with a hand picked library, everything in mine is stuff that means something to me, or games I’ve researched and want to play. I’d highly recommend it. Nothing better than coming home after a stressful day at work, locking myself in my den with a 6 pack and shutting the world out while I play some classics.

Something like this is actually quite popular in 3rd world country where brand new games are almost 1/3 of the average monthly salary, hence piracy. But the ones actually sold here are mostly hard disks filled with AAA games for people who wanted to play the games but their internet is too slow to download it
Yeah! This is popular in mexico , I've seen them in some stores also being sold as " backup drives" to not outright tell that it has 7 billion games hahaha
Someone on the Amazon reviews said there were lots of viruses hidden within the games on this device. And that wouldn't surprise me, since the creators likely just downloaded the roms off any website they could find them on, rather than using safe, legit rom sharing servers like the one that is spelt "Zimm's Lair" except you swap the "Z" for a "V".
Roms cannot contain a virus, well actually any file can contain a virus but a virus in a rom would probably only affect the game/emulator itself because those files are not executable.
my launchbox is close to 25TB and you will never have every game, Try importing modern day PC games or teknoparrot games , heck my entire switch library is getting close to 25TB alone

I have begun going down the rabbit hole of emulation this week, and am now learning of Launchbox. You mention in this video that there are better options that exist, but I can't find out where the pre-made Launchbox builds may live. If a redump better than this isn't readily available, is the best option likely to just purchase a drive like this?
why do you have all of that? I know datahoarding is a thing, especially for movies but why games and why all of them, not the ones you playd in the past/are fan of?
@Rogoznica FC I have 3 kids 6,10, and 13. So I drive is movies and tv/anime and the other 2 are games. So they hop around playing random games. I have a sim rig. I just race and fly, so I don't even play the arcade/console games. And I do it all off the same pc. I got an app that let's you split your cpu cores and any monitor/ TV you have connected acts like it's own pc. It uses Windows as it's own remote user.
Just ordered one. Word to the wise, though: rom vets will tell you that not every game on every system is playable or even bootable. Unless this producer curated the content, expect between 25-50% unplayable (and hopefully replaceable).
Mine works perfectly. What's a rom Vet? Somebody who has been into emulation for 20 years? Ok that's me. Everything works if you know what you're doing. Don't listen to lower IQ noobs who can't figure out Roms, bios sets, or folder management

5TB isn’t enough to install every game ever made I have a 8 TB hardrive it’s can’t install every game you’ll need to go back on PS2 original Xbox that doesn’t need to be installed those consoles are way cheaper to play on then the newest consoles that wants storage now the consoles want SSD which is way more expensive then a hard five
You mentioned a few times that it's not the best option as it had a lot of missing art, mixed directories, dupes, etc., so what would you say is the best plug and play option out there?
Title is a complete lie and so is the product. 5tb is nowhere near close enough to house every game ever. I dont think it can even hold every ps2 game ever.
This is unreal. As someone who has very lightly dabbled with emulation, I can't believe the system for mass acquiring roms at this scale is so straightforward and accessible. It's interesting as a novelty at worst, and perhaps an intelligent and convenient vehicle to (almost all?) older games at best.
Problem is hard drives are outdated now, so it's not surprising you can get 5TB fairly cheap. Most people value speed though and this also applies to storage so I think 1 to 2 TB of NVMe storage is what most gaming builds will have. Even most servers use NVMe drives for popular videos or services then offload the rest onto hard drives. People want fast access, and hard drives just can't do it. They're the floppy disks of today compared to NVMe.
@@portman8909 For modern games you're entirely right, but for anything 7th gen and earlier the hard drive will suffice. That's most of what people are seeking to currently emulate anyway. But I agree eventually the medium will have to switch to a faster storage standard.
@@portman8909 unless youre making constant file transfers, theres not much benefit to using solid state for storage. Traditional hard drives are not outdated, that would mean they have no uses at all. Traditional hard drives are still the most cost effective mass storage option. Youll want an SSD to put the operating system on, but for most processes after the computer is already on, the difference in speed is imperceptible. A 5400 RPM spinning drive is already more than fast enough to run a game, modern or otherwise, at near optimal performance.
It won't many games suffer from stuttering because they use asset streaming. You'll actually see games recommending to use a "hard drive mode" which lowers the LOD's for distant objects and draw distance because there's too many assets to be pulled from the hard drive quickly enough.@@TheodoreChin-ih7xz
In case if one of you buys this. Idk if it's just for me but the ps1 library may not work so what you want to do is get into the emulator that the game runs on and select a core and get into the ps1 game files and choose your game
5tb isnt enough to even store a full PS2 game library let alone every game ever for every platform (which seem to be about 160 000 games or so, currently)
yeah i looked for 1 game as he was scrolling and it didnt have it (assuming that was the full list) which was Urbz sims in the city. Also had a xbox port and wasnt on gamecube list either.
Yeah if we do some quick math here: 1. There's a little over 4000 games released for the PS2 alone (something like 4300ish) 2. Each PS2 game might be anywhere from 1GB-4.5GB, so for a conservative estimate let's average 2GB per game 3. That puts us at 2GB * 4000 games = 8TB MINIMUM for actually "every" PS2 game. It seems like they have a similar ratio for each console's quantity of games, since the PS2 takes up about a quarter of that hard drive, but they have maybe 1/8 of the total games actually released for the consoles. Which is still insane, mind you, but a far cry from the "entire library".
He’s just saying that to be cool. Lots of UA-camrs are covering this drive. This is about as cool as it gets for a one stop shop going to run as well as your gaming rig. Clone the drive over to my 12TB and complete all the rom sets to make it ultimate. But as far as ready to go more games than anyone will ever play.
Yes, the fact that it can launch three different front ends and houses mostly complete rom sets including ps2 and GC, this is the leader. China has balls and if you have money, it's yours. So many sanctimonious newbs out there.
I would love this. I was going to buy one of those ultimate arcade setups mainly because it had such an impressive rom collection and I didn't want to build my own and not have the roms. I really wish I could torrent something like this. Or hell any of you guys with these mega collections I will gladly pay for a copy of your files. It's just amazing to have these even if you could never possibly play everything. It's like preserving a part of history.
@@XboxAlive Whether he's cool or not, this drive looks terrible in comparison to the hundreds or thousands of similar "products" out there. Never mind how many UA-camrs are covering it, there's certainly nothing in this video to suggest that this is "as cool as it gets" for anything. It's an automatic fail for dividing up the systems between three (!) different front ends; and, despite the stupid click-bait title, it does not have close to "every game ever". It may have every MAME game ever, but that's generally a bad thing. Saw a Mahjong game scroll by in the MAME section, so expect there are thousands more of those in there, not to mention multiple versions of the same games with cryptic information in the names (e.g. Revision 4B) and it will be hard to tell which (if any) of them work. And given the slap-dash effort on virtually everything shown in the video, imagine many of those games will require configuration to work properly and still more will fail to load at all. Save your $200, assuming this "deal" is still available somewhere. There are many others out there and they vary wildly in both quality and quantity of games, but it's very hard to tell which are worthwhile from the ad copy or from UA-cam "reviews". For those looking for something to connect to a TV, there are tons of "flight decks" and faux consoles on Amazon for around $150-300, but they generally have just MAME and the oldest of console games. Maybe they have newer ones now, as it's been years since I looked at those. Google "amazon pandora box arcade". There are also tons of demonstrations of these things on YT (going back many years) and many can be upgraded with your own collection of legally sourced games. :) Edit to add: A quick search of Amazon (US) turns up a "console" that seemingly features this same software, even advertising the 3-in-1 split (as if it is a bonus), plus a 5400RPM HDD. It's under $200, but still a poor choice. As I recalled, there are hundreds, if not thousands of similar products listed.

I really like to keep old and otherwise unaccessible games preserved and playable through projects like these, but I don't know how to feel about new and recent PC games also being on there. Those may actually hurt those indie devs putting their stuffs on steam and already trying to make it as accessible. I think it would be better if they solely focus on discontinued consoles and platforms.
I would highly not recommend buying this, but if you cant resist the temptation, AT MINIMUM figure out how to properly dual-boot your PC. Antivirus protection is not all encapsulating, especially since you are plugging in a potentially compromised physical hard drive. Dual-booting your PC basically splits up your computer into two separate and isolated environments (separate PCs basically) that will run on the same resources (gpu/ram/cpu), much like a VM but a little more isolated. (you cant just use a VM because that would require the hard drive going through your actual environment into the VM. dual-booting will create an entirely new 'space' for it to operate in) If the hard drive is compromised, the environment it'll run on has no access to the other environment, which would include any of your actual files/personal information. This will effectively protect you from malwares and your PC being pulled into a botnet as long as you properly secure the dual-boot. You'll just have to boot into the 2nd environment every time you want to start gaming on the drive and remember to end it afterwards. (and of course, back up both environments for good measure)
Great video. You got most of the points out like the duplicates. Do you know what version of MAME it is using? I know there are different versions with different support. Most of the builds is using the older Mame 2000 or 2003 version which some of the functionalities are missing from the newer 2008 and newer version. Also would be good if you include a quick review of the cheat systems. Back a few decades ago, since I did not have much money for games, I don't mind spending days on the same game and hours to gain one or two level up. Arcade games are known to be quarter munchers or invisible bullets taking you out like Terra Cresta when you have all 5 pieces.

This is cool and all, but I can guarantee you that the games on this hard drive have not been optimised or setup correctly at all. It's simply using Launchbox and various emulators (most likely through RetroArch cores). I've been setting up my own curated Launchbox collection and properly setting up and configuring each system and game. I'm currently 6 months into the project (and will typically spend around 9 hours a day working on it) and have 22,000 games at present. I also have hundreds of special games which I've custom patched myself; such as English translated games which were Japanese exclusives and an extensive MSU SNES collection (an awesome process which allows one to patch CD quality music into SNES games) - I notice the hard drive does have a handful of MSU converted titles, but I have 100 or so and I've been able to choose which music I want to patch onto the rom, instead of having some rando decide for me). Also, this collection has 3 MS-DOS games?! Pfft. I have over 300 classic MS-DOS games in my collection. It really is worth doing this sort of thing properly, but for non-tech savvy people, I guess this a neat enough purchase. Just don't expect half of the games to run properly (if at all) and for there to be a LOT of garbage games included within the collection.

It's not even that time consuming. You can download whole rom sets for different consoles that have every game released for that console. With most emulators you don't even have to extract the roms.

5tb isnt enough to even store a full PS2 game library let alone every game ever for every platform (which seem to be about 160 000 games or so, currently)
Thats how marketing works; say "everything" and everyone will buy it.
yeah i looked for 1 game as he was scrolling and it didnt have it (assuming that was the full list) which was Urbz sims in the city. Also had a xbox port and wasnt on gamecube list either.
Yeah if we do some quick math here:
1. There's a little over 4000 games released for the PS2 alone (something like 4300ish)
2. Each PS2 game might be anywhere from 1GB-4.5GB, so for a conservative estimate let's average 2GB per game

You said it’s not the best option out there… What do you recommend that would have a larger and/or more curated list of games?
Edit to add: A quick search of Amazon (US) turns up a "console" that seemingly features this same software, even advertising the 3-in-1 split (as if it is a bonus), plus a 5400RPM HDD. It's under $200, but still a poor choice. As I recalled, there are hundreds, if not thousands of similar products listed.

A cheap option is you could buy a smaller/cheaper drive and download the games yourself but it is time consuming.
$300 for free emulators available everywhere lol
Yes it’s the convenience, price elasticity is a basic concept bruh.
My thoughts as well
I would highly not recommend buying this, but if you cant resist the temptation, AT MINIMUM figure out how to properly dual-boot your PC.
(you cant just use a VM because that would require the hard drive going through your actual environment into the VM. dual-booting will create an entirely new 'space' for it to operate in)
If the hard drive is compromised, the environment it'll run on has no access to the other environment, which would include any of your actual files/personal information.
For all the work they did this pirate deserves his loot.
Downloading and compiling premade collections and programs for setup. Pirate pirating other pirates, u can too by simply by cloning these hard drives.
Props to people who compiled and tested that all these games work
Some people are scaning these hard drives and they have malware. Becarful if you buy this. Might be downloading stuff you dont want
The link(s) doesn't seem to redirect me to the product; is it still available?
yes they work, the links are for USA though
I saw someone in our local area near Tondo selling these things in bulk, and he mades $140 for EACH order. Now, he's a millionaire. Holy sht so this is where he gets it.
Wow, none of the 3D mortal Kombat games are here. That blows
Only the 2d ones were fun IMO, simple combos and fun, fast paced action. I didn't like the newer ones with 50 button combos. Give me Back Back Yellow with scorpion for "come 'ere" any day.
ABACABB
I prefer mine with blood.
As someone with 20tb on just the gaming pc 5 tb isn't enough to hold "every game ever." One of my hard drives is 6tb and is over 5tb of just roms. That's without additional pc games. But it is impressive how many roms for old systems that aren't covered.
But I will ask what ui that is for what front end? I mostly use steam for emulation launcher with grids, but I do love how this looks.
It's called click bait...
@@brat-b8h IK. To be fair, lots of very obscure roms for old PC systems and the like, but not interested if you can't do switch roms :)
the fact that ps2 has every socom (and im a huge socom fan) on it but not a single mortal kombat OR MORTAL KOMBAT SHOILIN MONKS IS CRIMINAL!!!
Can we add our own roms to this?
This is actually pretty awesome. This shouldn't count as illegal as it literally acts as a virtual museum that preserves history.
Any plans to share yours?
@@farfromirrational Among friends, yes but not beyond that, as I have a paid for licensed copy of LaunchBox, so were I to distribute it online, my name and e-mail address would be right there for all to see (including the people over at LaunchBox itself and the rights holders for any games included within the collection).
The best thing in all of this is that they don't give you Launchbox license for free cause I support them 200%
YES!!!!! Good for launchbox they deserve the business, great front end
lmao wtf just buy a 5TB for $80 instead of this $220 scam and download all the games yourself online for free lmao
You can't buy a 5tb Hard drive/ SSD for 80$. For a hard drive they are like 200$ and for an SSD they are like 500$
@@InitialJayy Search: WD My Passport HDD 5tb. Just an example not exactly $80 but $115 is not bad neither.
Download them where at?
this made me sub i had no idea this existed thanks for the info
Yo i just purchased cause im intrusive like that and now im realising what controllers do you need to actually play the console i also only purchased for the reason to play with my dad so i would need two controllers. Do you knoww
