It's because the sections of Rivet city are all enclosed, and look the same (walls, floors, cieling) but Megaton is open and in a circular configuration, with many landmarks throughout the town such as the bomb, the plane tail section, and the bus. It makes it easy to memorize and traverse when there are many unusual landmarks from which to orient yourself.
Hugh Chungus funnily enough I stumble upon the science lab every time but cannot find the door to the market (except the one connected with the entry/exit to rivet city but that is pretty in-your-face when you visit it for the first time)
Fallout 3 was my first ever open-world game, and Megaton my first home. There's something about the sound of the wind whistling through the fences, the sound of the jet engine lazily spinning, Cromwell's nonsense echoing around the crater, and the brown and grey airliner parts making up the town. Walking through those gates is always like coming home.

Watched all of Fallout 1. Started Fallout 2 and realized its in progress. So now im watching fallout 3 even though I played all. But hearing the detail you bring in the videos makes me understand and love these games and your series so much. Thank you for this ❤️
Yeah, I'm so uninterested in Fallout 76, I honestly don't give the slightest care for the story or lore. By now it's just conflated, forced and retconned to Hell and back. Not worth it just for another lame excuse to see yet more super mutants and some crap with the FEV. Now Fallout 3 did admittedly force the super mutants return and such and such...but they were just trying to be faithful I guess. But now, in particular with 4 and 76.....it's so messy I just don't care anymore. Minor elements of Fallout 4's story are nice but in general....not interested in the series beyond New Vegas...and I haven't played New Vegas.....
@vargen1414 Well yeah but I'm not really concerned with throw away references, they can change all the want. The lore itself is just bloated and contradictory and the games have largely backed themselves into a corner...oh no, supermutants...again. So let's create another dumb brute that will take their place..but no, they'll just be supermutant reskins....it's all stale at this point. We see the same thing over and over again. Should have ended years ago, I'd go as far as to say 2 was unnecessary, they wrote out the supermutants in the first game and forced them back in for the second. I know without 3, the series wouldn't have been so popular, but maybe that would have been for the best.
When ever I repair the leaking pipes I usually jump over the railing that is in front of Craterside Supply. I end up on the opposite balcony and just walk over to the second leak. I was a little confused with the long winding path you gave in the video. I figured I would let you know a slightly quicker path. Also I love watching your videos! From your WoW machinima days to today, they are always highly entertaining no matter how many times I watch them! Keep up the fantastic work!
The "night man" reference got me good. Thank you for these videos. I have 500+ hours in fallout 3 and there were several things in this video that I never knew!
9:50 "if it's just nerves maybe some chems will help" LMAO yo just go get hella high *then* you can go fiddle with the atomic bomb in the middle of my town
I always felt back for Micky. He's relies on kindness of strangers in a nuclear wasteland where people would kill you for a broken cap. He's a nice person too! Even if you're an asshole to him he won't try and insult you or hurt you.
I can already tell you exactly how megaton came to be. All of the scraps came from Andrews Air Force Base; in fact, the plane that made that crater was likely a B-52 Stratofortress carrying that bomb before a nuclear detonation in or near DC caused an electromagnetic pulse that made the plane crash. That formed the foundation for Megaton, and the rest of it came from Andrews.
Death claw battle in the first 10 minutes of game play. Fallout 3 you disarm a nuke with in 10 minutes. Fallout 4 has horrible dialog. Fallout 3 has wonderful dialog. Fallout 4 combat is wonderful. Fallout 3 combat is existent. Fallout 4 is light hearted. Fallout 3 is dark. Fallout 4 has lame dlcs. Fallout 3 has banger dlcs.
I always enjoy your videos, you put so much enthusiasm and effort into the things most people won't notice, piece it together and present the full picture. Thank you Oxhorn for your amazing content!
I really liked fallout 3 for it's simplicity unlike New Vegas which sometimes had a little too many options and Megaton really brings back great memories
The boyfriend and I just started watching your videos together after we started Fallout 4. I think your channel is awesome. A suggestion I have is to maybe make videos on how to get past glitches, Fire Support and Call to Arms took way too long to complete because of a glitch in arriving late. We figured it out; but it would be helpful!
Diamond City is a Baseball field, Rivet City is an Aircraft Carrier, New Vegas is literally Vegas but with walls and securitrons, Goodneigbor is the same essentially but with gangsters instead of robots, and The Pitt is the same as Vegas and Goodneigbor. All being ruins that we're built around and upon. Megaton on the other hand was built from the ground up. It was literally a crater in the ground. They built it from scratch. It's the Newest Post-War city that wasn't built around ruins or in a already-standing city. It has a similar feeling to cooking your own food, or building something yourself. Theres just a feeling of something special because of the effort they put into it.
@@plumbherhub1664 by technicality, ya could say Megaton is the same since its population are the people who tried to get into Vault 101 mixed with travelers who decided to settle there.
@moxxiiscarlett7141 no the walls were built approximately 60 years before fallout 3 around 2210s what's her name the old lady myrna what ever her dad helped build the walls before that it was just a crater for 150 years it was the settlers from children of Atom who built walls plumbing and the electrical system. I could be wrong but I'm guessing apon her age (maybe 50 60 years old) it's a real mystery I find more interesting than rivet city
Fantastic as always, fine sir! Even though I've played fallout 3 multiple times, I still learned several things I didn't know. Keep up the outstanding work Ox!!
It always confused me how the people of megaton specifically, among others in fallout 3 located so close to nuclear materials, havent begun some sort of ghoulification process...
Lots of people don't realise theres a guy stood above the jet engine on the outside of Megaton with a gun trained on you. Also, I think you can reverse pickpocket Simms duster and hat, just pickpocket him and give him power armour and a helmet, or anything with higher DR. Enter a door and force a quick save, reload that quick save, then exit the door again. He should have put his new equipment on. Then pickpocket him again.
Oxhorn you inspired me to open Fallout 3 back up and start a new modded playthrough, seeing the amazing art in just one town just makes me go back in awe.
If this was fallout 4 the sarcastic response for 1:06:30 would have Hold on, Let me think of an Insult. I know. You look like a corpse. Gob: Oh great, I got a wise ass
Dude, oxhorn, I love your vids. your methods of explaining the lore manage to captivate me for your entire videos, which is a miracle since no video over 5 minutes can keep me entertained. your voice makes me super calm, and your in depth explanation is super detailed and intriguing. never stop making videos, you are a legend, God bless you man.
that "lightman" poem the "five made one in the lightmans tower" probably portrays the 5 lights in a lighttowers place that are aimed out to guide ships in.
You know what would be super cool?........ Fallout 3 remastered, with all the dlcs included, as one purchase. But I can only wish.......(Sighs wistfully)
Would rather have a remastered New Vegas, myself. While it is a glitchy, incomplete game, I love the different stories and characters in that game the most.
ween tuguy imo Fallout:NV deserves a remaster more. While I played and enjoyed both a “megaton”, NV had mush better combat, random events and stories throughout the world, and just had a better setting. Love both tho

I'm so glad I found you Ox, your commentary alone is golden but everything else keeps me highly entertained.
Pretty sure you can get the sheriff's duster from Lucas simms by reverse pickpocketing a higher DR piece of gear, and then taking the duster from his inventory after fast traveling somewhere and back
Oxhorn, considering your doing towns now can you do a video about the backstory of diamond city?
In a way he does he did a few videos on the people there but never the actual town not so much

Fallout 3: Manya gives you an extremely detailed history of the town.
Fallout New Vegas: Michelangelo explains that he builds all the functioning signs for Mr. House.
Fallout 4: Screw you, BASEBALL!
Wdym Battle Royale [movie was awesome] esque baseball isn't better
The funniest thing about fallout and elder scrolls games is when the character’s voice changes drastically for one line then changes back LOL
Entering Megaton has massive nostalgic value to me. Best place I saw in a game. First time playing I almost killed myself in the irradiated water
The rumor that Moriarty pisses in the still is probably a reference to the time Heineken spread a similar rumor about Corona
@vargen1414 lol, true
First time went there, I mistook the name for "Megatron" lol 😂😂😂😂
Did you think the front doors was s transformer? 😅😅 JK
@@timfrank7461 Nope. Even at that age I could recognize it as a crashed bomber debris.
I mispronounced it as that one time and got a good laugh out of my two teenage sons--who are really into this (and got me playing it...addicting)
Gosh I remember how freaking _amazing_ that moment Megaton's armor peeled back to reveal its entrance was the very first time I played the game. Froze me in my tracks, lol
I never played the bad guy before, I still can't, it's just not in me. Interesting to see what happens with those options.
Rob Hill well you could get a insane slave girlfriend in paradise falls, dine in one of the best neighborhoods of America, live in the -Trump- Tenpenny Tower and sell the ears of your victims to the talon cooperation. The only problem you‘ll face are raiders as killing them improves your karma

Watched all of Fallout 1.
Started Fallout 2 and realized its in progress. So now im watching fallout 3 even though I played all. But hearing the detail you bring in the videos makes me understand and love these games and your series so much. Thank you for this ❤️
I'm not sure why I am adverse from the Fallout 76 stuff, but I really enjoy your videos of the past games. Thanks Ox.
Hey Maggie Gurl. I just met you. Tell me the combo to ur safe.
Maggie: OK!
Is it nostalgia from when I was kid blinding me, or is Fallout 3 10x better than Fallout 4?
No fallout 3 is legit better. You can actually be a bad guy it's got the atmosphere and better villains.
Maybe it's better but 10 times seems like a stretch
Death claw battle in the first 10 minutes of game play. Fallout 3 you disarm a nuke with in 10 minutes. Fallout 4 has horrible dialog. Fallout 3 has wonderful dialog. Fallout 4 combat is wonderful. Fallout 3 combat is existent. Fallout 4 is light hearted. Fallout 3 is dark. Fallout 4 has lame dlcs. Fallout 3 has banger dlcs.
I believe you can also acquire the hat and duster if you let mr burke kill the sheriff. instead of helping him.
I always enjoy your videos, you put so much enthusiasm and effort into the things most people won't notice, piece it together and present the full picture. Thank you Oxhorn for your amazing content!

I never knew about the rooftop hatch in lucus' home this whole time!
Rewatching this for the 100th time but there’s just something special about Megaton that just keeps bringing me back. So much nostalgia. Perfect game.
In the middle of my 2nd (first continuous) play through of fo3. Personally I think new Vegas is much better, but 3 is pretty good

I absolutely LOVE Charon's grumbling as you left Billy Creel's. Rotflcopterz
Love the Dayman reference!

The combination she gives you is part of the code from Lost
55:38 Agreed with Charons Commentary
Wasn't the hub a scrap built town built after the great War in fallout 1
I love how that old guy just casually gestures with his gun while talking
It always confused me how the people of megaton specifically, among others in fallout 3 located so close to nuclear materials, havent begun some sort of ghoulification process...
Jeffrey Droog
Nuclear bombs aren't radioactive by themselves
Lots of people don't realise theres a guy stood above the jet engine on the outside of Megaton with a gun trained on you. Also, I think you can reverse pickpocket Simms duster and hat, just pickpocket him and give him power armour and a helmet, or anything with higher DR. Enter a door and force a quick save, reload that quick save, then exit the door again. He should have put his new equipment on. Then pickpocket him again.
Hey Ox I love the series and all your videos you plan it out and give us the best there is. The flow of the video and pacing is great! You’re the man!

@@lazymansload520 His name was Peter Gil and he died in June of 2016. He was one of the few actors to not voice a million characters in Fallout 3.

that "lightman" poem the "five made one in the lightmans tower" probably portrays the 5 lights in a lighttowers place that are aimed out to guide ships in.
You know what would be super cool?........ Fallout 3 remastered, with all the dlcs included, as one purchase. But I can only wish.......(Sighs wistfully)
Add in all cut quests and items and it would be even better!
There was a bethesda listing on amazon recently, could be fo3 remastered 👀👀
Would rather have a remastered New Vegas, myself. While it is a glitchy, incomplete game, I love the different stories and characters in that game the most.
ween tuguy imo Fallout:NV deserves a remaster more. While I played and enjoyed both a “megaton”, NV had mush better combat, random events and stories throughout the world, and just had a better setting. Love both tho
I'd rather a remake, rebuilt from the ground up. With even heavier RPG elements.
