Never really understood how the Midwest would become a "Dust Bowl," especially with their proximity to the Great Lakes. Wisconsin in particular is largely marshland, so it would be shocking to have that all somehow dry up completely. More likely scenario would be the entire Midwest turning into a filthy radioactive mud puddle.

I think Hawaii as a setting would be very interesting, assuming Bethesda actually has any creativity left in the tank. Being a series of islands, they would most definitely have formed their own cultures separate from that of the main land. Because there's very limited land to scavenge from and (assuming) there's no way to travel to California, it's possible the survivors might've united once again to use the land efficiently, maybe even returning to pseudo Polynesian culture, like how the tribes within the Grand Canyon resemble Native American tribes. Alternatively, they might've sped up the race for resources into a full war with different factions fighting to claim what little land they can, placing your character into the fray to tip the balance, just like the Courier did at Hoover Dam. But those are just my two ideas off the top of my head as someone who doesn't make games. I think it'd be the best option for a new setting that isn't a different country and isn't also within the continental United States.

      Orrrr:
French Lick/West Baden: A tourist town located in Southern Indiana with 3 huge hotels that are at least 200 years old, and a casino. One of which has a 200 feet open atrium in the middle of it. The incredible history behind these locations, and the land they stand on has so much potential. Not to mention a running joke about how the natural water around the area smells like shit, even though it's not polluted. There's plenty of
lore and mini locations like the winery, the nearby limestone quarries outside of Paoli, golf courses, and the other nearby tourist attractions here to expand upon.
Santa Claus: A town with Holiday World/Splashing Safari, with several record breaking water coasters, and a large expansive thrill park. Many possibilities here. Camp grounds, and other tourist-y locations are just outside of the park, and this could be a really interesting place to explore if done right.
Jasper: An old industrial town with a festival called the Straussenfest held almost every year around October. Also contains a large company named Jasper Engines, which could be considered in cannon as a local competitor to Robco.
West Boggs Park: A large lake outside of the small town of Loogootee, it became a nature park in between the Loogootee, Odon, and Crane. While it's not to the grandiose scale of other parks, it's certainly got an interesting vibe to it. Lark Ranch is also considerably close to this, which is also a tourist attraction.
NSWC Crane: Built around the towns of Crane/Scotland, this naval base helped serve the people around the town of Loogootee and give them jobs. This would be an interesting location to explore, especially if there was an enclave presence had set up a base here.
Patoka Lake: Massive lake that brings many tourists around the French Lake/West Baden area. This location swallowed up the towns of Elon, Ellensworth, and Newton-Stuart, which would be interesting to explore in a game. Also could be a place that many might stay away from due to the mutated wildlife it could hold in the game.
Vincennes: Large town along the Ohio river with the first college ever built in Indiana. Has the George Rodgers Clock Memorial, and Basilica Of St. Francis Xavier nearby each other. There is also Grouseland, the Red Skelton Museum Of Comedy, and Knox County Memorial Park, not to mention the very bizarre french style apartment buildings being built by the university.
Hindostan: A town that used to exist on White River. Due to flooding, sickness, and economic decline due to these events, it was later abandoned. It would be interesting if the town was kept alive in the lore, and to see how it later formed, considering many theorized it could've been as big as Vincennes[which is, by my own knowledge, unlikely].
Corning, Indiana: Set up as a small mining town for the coal mines that have now gone perpetually extinct, this would be an interesting location to see mole miner's and maybe even a large mole rat mini boss, due to the ridiculous amount of moles that are around Indiana.
Martin National Park: A small nature park outside of Shoals, Indiana that is mostly remote apart from a very rickety tower that stands in the middle of it. Would be any interesting place to have a bunch of super mutants.
Madison, Indiana: A beautiful tourist town right beside Clifty Falls National Park that sits on the Ohio River. Has an active steamboat service, an annual regatta[ boat showcase/race], old tourist buildings everywhere, and a powerplant just outside of town.
Clifty Falls/The Madison Powerplant: These two's history are very much intertwined together, as both sit right beside each other, and each can't really expand due to the other. Clifty Falls has many natural and beautiful places that could be, in the game, disfigured by the power plant[ which we could assume in this universe is run on nuclear energy], I feel like this could most certainly be an interesting location.
Evansville: I think this is pretty self explanatory. This place has so much potential, from the two rival universities, angel state memorial mounds, Bosse Field, the Tropicana Casino, the Mesker Zoo, Eastland Mall[ which I could definetly see as some sort of huge settlement/raider location], as well as the now torn down Ford Center[ which could still be in the game if they change the lore slightly], as well as the extensive history behind this cit, and notoriety of it. There's just plenty to go off of here.
Gypsum Factory/Mine: On the way to Williams, this mine is a huge and obscure location to see in the middle of dense forests. Would definetly have some interesting aspects that could be fleshed out.
If you couple these locations with the lore described in the video(i.e. the mile long tornados, and dust bowl-liie conditions[ and maybe some other stuff to that, since Indiana has the most chaotic weather system outside of the southern USA states I know], I believe I've made my case for an interesting game.
English, Indiana: This town was moved from its original location due to how horrendously it was flooded. It would be interesting if the lore of the game had the town still here, and the post war location be absolutely flooded.
      Leavenworth, Indiana:
A seemingly peaceful town along the Ohio River with a dark past. If the rumors are correct, there used to be a cult there a long while back who murdered someone from there. Of course, this is a rumor, but it would be interesting to see how the people working on the Fallout games could spin that.
Louisville, Kentucky: Where to begin? The Kentucky Derby is held down there! There's also the Mega Cavern attraction, not to mention that this is Kentucky's biggest city, the center for performing arts, not to mention the river, Muhammad Ali National Airport, and many more places. It would be cool to have this location here.
Owensboro, Indiana: Home to the Blue Grass Memorial Mueseum, Western Kentucky Botanical Gardens, Smothers Park, The Convention Center, Brescia University, the Kentucky Wesleyan University, other universities, and places, I think this would be a facinating place to explore.
Cape Sandy, Indiana: This is a really small community, but with a humongous quarry that lays just outside of it. On google maps, if you zoom in to this location, it looks starkly different from all the surrounding areas. Would be really neat to see it. And it's just outside of leavenworth, which could further increase the story potential between them.
Brandenburg, Kentucky: Home to a confederate veteran's monument, as well as a native americans monument and many other places, I could see a sort of Confederate-style faction that resides here and the surrounding area.
Corydon, Indiana: Home to some interesting history as well as Icon Metal Forming LLC, the Constitutional Stump of indiana {the constitution for Indiana was drafted under that very tree}, an extension of Purdue university, and the Battle Of Corydon Park, I think there's a lot of historical value that could be explored here, not to mention the Indiana Caverns located just outside of town.
The Rickenbaugh House Of Apalona, Indiana: While a small area, this would be a nice quick dungeon that one could run through. Irl, it's a small house located on Lake Celine just outside the township of Apalona that was built all the way back in 1874, and is being preserved today. Accompanied with a local amphitheatre, and
      nature store.
Skillman, Kentucky & Domtar Paper: A bizarre location that's around the bend of the Ohio River. Skillman is only a small township, but the nearby paper company almost dominates the whole area. From google maps, it appears to be a huge barren location with odd features.
Jeffersontown,Kentucky: A large suburb of Louisville, this location has a lot of potential for stories and lore.
I could go on and on, especially about faction possibilities, plot, and deeper analysis into the setting, but I really don't appreciate how everyone not only overlooks the historical value and beauty of our area, but also dismisses the idea due to things like 'heroin addiction's and 'abandoned factories'. Continuing a stigma, and a generalized label over these areas of these states and simply dismissing the story potential of it is really callous, and disrespectful. We have, if not a better, amount of lore and potential as West Virginia. If you couple these locations with the lore described in the video(i.e. the mile long tornados, and dust bowl-liie conditions[ and maybe some other stuff to that, since Indiana has the most chaotic weather system outside of the southern USA states I know], I believe I've made my case for a good game.

Another bit of trivia about Oklahoma (if it hasn't already been mentioned) is that the dirt has a very high iron content, so it appears rust red. There are lots of comments about the red dirt in Oklahoma, so "Red Okies" does seem to lend credence to the legionnaires being based on Oklahoma.

As an adopted Austinite who is originally from south Louisiana, I think it could really be awesome to see a New Orleans setting (as many have said), along with some additional expansion into the surrounding swamps of Cajun country. Irradiated gumbo for health regen? Why not?
People have mentioned that Texas hasn't gotten its fair treatment, and I agree. The only issue is that Texas is a big place. I'm in Austin, and the culture is different here from what you'll even find a few hours down the road in Houston or Dallas -- to say nothing of places like El Paso (a place where maybe we could see some New Vegas overlap due to proximity). Obviously they can compress the game world considerably to make distances between major areas traversible, but Texas might be too big to pull that off in a way that doesn't make it feel like a museum or fun house that is just "Texas-themed." Not sure.
Regardless, there's some great topography to explore, and there are some fun cultural elements that have yet to make their way into the lore in a meaningful way. Going down to the border to explore places like Big Bend would be nice (my visit to the ghost town of Terlingua gave me some major post-apocalyptic vibes in terms of the desolation and expansiveness of everything).
Okay, sorry. I'm rambling. Point is, there are places that are ripe for exploring in this universe. I just hope that it is handled in a more "classic Fallout" manner than was done with 76. Yeesh.

I forget the names of the houses but they're mentioned in game as well as very prominent irl near Wright Patt Air Force Base. It's also not the only time NC is referenced in Bethesda games, I believe there are references to the Duke Devils in one game and the province of High Rock in TES shares a name with one of the more well-known lakes in the state.

      @notalanrogers3173 2 роки тому

Neat, thanks for posting this (a year ago, lol). I feel like NC would have been pretty devastated during the great war, unless there was some serious yet-unmentioned missile defense. Between Bragg, Lejeune, Cherry Point, Raleigh and Charlotte, that's a lot of almost guaranteed targets that are far enough apart to inadvertantly cause mass devastation across the majority of the state.

@@notalanrogers3173 Gotta represent my home town here, Salisbury was on both the Soviet and Nazi bombing lists on account it being a massive railway hub for the East Coast, so in Fallout's Great War it would have either been targetted for a direct missilr attack or been a HVT for the cells of Chinese commandos we know are present on the east coast

The Warehouse in South Dakota is a reference to Warehouse 13, a SciFi original series where the current US warehouse and headquarters for the show is located in South Dakota. Warehouses in that show are top secret government facilities created to collect and store supernatural items imbued with special properties through different means. Neat reference for a pretty good show.

Even though I live in upstate SC, Charleston would be a great setting with factions like the remains of the Citadel(a military college), a potential dlc for parris island, the iconic very long bridge over one of the rivers/marshes as a settlement, one of the condo complexes as a settlement, a potential faction of slavers based on the confederacy vs a split off of the same faction who still want a confederacy but without the slaves part(kinda like a ncr vs Caesars legion war with a southern twist), and don’t forget Boone Hall which could either be a settlement or the hq of the pro slave confederacy. There’s just so much potential with each and every little area in each and every state!
