I like the way you approach the music. THey actually create the music first then Maynard feels it and is inspired to write the lyrics. Of course they might make a few adjustments but that is the process. Music first then vocals and lyrics. Maynard wants the lyrics to be open for interpretation for the most part. He even says that his voice is just another instrument. He is NOT the "front man" he performs in the back in shadow at the concerts. Danny (drums & percussion) is always center stage with Adam & Justin flanking left and right.
Sub'd for a TOOL journey, this could be good. Your listening style is exactly what Tool music requires of you for a meaningful listen! This rabbit hole known as Tool is far deeper than you can imagine, a 30 year discography absolutely chocked full of masterful compositions, no joke! PLEASE do more of their music, the studio versions are best for your 1st listen, without doubt.
Lol, highlight of my day.. watching you try to not only keep up with the rhythm changes, but to predict what was next.. that was fantastic! Good stuff. 😊 I always feel bad watching reactors try to count a first time Tool listen. 😂 😅 🤘🌀
If you're just now getting into researching Shadow work you have found not only this song but this whole band to help you on your journey. Enjoy the ride spiral out
when you take even the slightest dive into Saturn Ascending…it makes it that much more significant. Great reaction, love the vid, immediately subscribed 🩶
Yes! In a sort of subtle and collected way, I found "primal" to be the best quick summary of their style; they do seem intent on bringing a kind of all-round human-ness to hard rock, by constantly incorporating elements from either foreign cultures or older times; there's a lot going on - and indeed, a "primal" vibe is often the red thread, without it being overpowering or anything.
Spiral out my friend. You're here. You won't leave. You should do this entire album. But of course, everything they do is insane. Your reaction was perfect!
When you asked at about 2:00 (roughly) what the time signature was, the answer is 10/8. It's basically composed of a group of 6 and then, a count of 4. You could even write it in 6/8 followed by a 4/8.
You obviously have the intelligence for the TOOL journey. Start at the beginning and work your way through the masters of music and lyrics. The TOOL Army will discover and follow you 🌀
The talk about Saturn ascending is a reference to astrology. Saturn ascending through your astrological sign signifies a time of growth and change. It does so every 29.5 years. Seems pretty accurate, no one is the same person they were 30 years ago.
So, Saturn's cycle is about 27 years, and it can represent when people reach maturity or a rebirth in astrology. He was going for 27 seconds on the scream. Also, the stone is not only something that weighs you down but is also a reference to the philosopher's stone from Alchemy which was sought to transmute metal (usually lead, as in "leaden grudges") into gold.
For a music first guy the Tool mix is pretty sweet. Plus you can spend a hundred re-listens and catch new tasty bits. You caught onto Shadow so much, Forty Six and 2 is a must. Eulogy is another good one for music and lyrics. Plus it has a super-chill, spacey tribal intro. Heck, a lot of their songs ride with a tribal muscular feel. That’d be Danny Carrey, the Octopus on drums.
Subscribing for more Tool ❤🌀 You will really like this rabbit hole, I can tell. Jambi, Eulogy, and definitely the live drum cam of Pneuma. Their drummer Danny Carey is unbelievable. Oh and dude, you need 46 and 2. For sure.
46 & 2 is a must then. Do me a favor. You're gonna get a lot of people telling you to spiral out. When you get to that song and you get to that part. Don't pause to tell you get it now. It ruins the end of the song. Great reaction! Spiral out!😂
The ending with all the drum rolls is allegedly meant to be the all stones falling after giving away the (corner)stone mentioned at the beginning - the cornerstone being the grudge. Everything falls when you let the grudge go, and it could be for better or worse, but that's up to you to determine which it will be.
Woah… Shadow? TOOL… 46 & 2 is going to be a must for you. I know you said you don’t do lyrics initially, but the reaction may benefit from a lyrical review. Maybe, record that portion later, and tac it onto the end.
@@TheOneLTReacts my song Belmont Pines! If you require it to have lyrics, there’s also SWANKP0T, which has an official lyric video, but i think you’d like Belmont pines much more :]
I think the tidiest way to conceptualize the time signature at that particular point in the song would be 10/8, but I personally FEEL it as a bar of 6/8 plus a bar of (what I’d argue is) 4/8 even though I know some of my fellow music school peeps might take issue with that.
"What's the time signature here?" The answer is pluralistic and poly rythmic in nature. Cuz which ones you talking about? The drums, the bass, the guitar or the vocals? The ones a moment ago. Now? And what's coming next? 😅
Naw man, with Tool, the vocals are meant to support the instrumentation, as the instrumentation is written first. Also, the lyrics have amazing depth to them, cryptic, insightful, visceral, cathartic
You MUST hear "46&2". Maynard's lyrics, quite often, are generally about growth and progression...or he's just singing about his penis or anal sex. Either way nearly every lyric is or can be taken as a double entendre. A good example of this is their song, "Pushit." Spiral out, keep going.
Ifyou are doing Shadow work, do 46 and 2 next. Maynard lyrics are always deep but he treats his voice as a 4th instrument so it's often down in the mix. Tool fans love vicariously experiencing a first listen because we are sad we can't hear it for the first time again. Please jeep going. Spiral out
As a new tool fan, you must never let anything interrupt said bands songs ..not traffic, not mom, not God himself ... You play that bish til it's done!!

“What’s the time signature here” 😂.
Yes
Yes, no and maybe are all correct answers
And they’re all wrong too.
Layers
The one that stands out to me most is 10/8
@@mstorrboy yep, sometimes phrased in 2 groups of 5, sometimes in 6 beats then 4 beats
Shadow you say, 46 & 2 by TOOL should be next then.
This is true.
Yes indeed. Perfect for the journey!
💯
🎶 Change is coming through my shadow 🎶
46&2 is next for sure ✨🧬✨
This is the way.
Our held grudges control us. LET IT GO!!!!!!!!! realise the weight. Every Tool song appears in your life as a synchronicity.
Tool army here. To this day, The Grudge is still bad ass live! Do more Tool!
Present 🙋🏼♂️ 🤘🌀
Thanks for reacting to my suggestion, i know you would love it man! The Tool rabbit hole is deep and vast, but here is another one: TOOL - Eulogy
Here to second the vote for Eulogy!
Third. After hearing Eulogy I thought, Tool is GOAT level.
Fourth of Fifth. Eulogy is perfection with some of Danny's tastiest stuff ever.
There’s a reason I consider the best album ever made.
"I've been missing out".
Welcome to TOOL ARMY.
Best rock band ever created.

Thanks for welcoming me

My favorite Tool song is the one I'm listening to at the time.
Welcome to the Tool Army!
If you're into the shadow self piece, definitely gotta listen to 46 & 2 by Tool.
Easily one of my favorite riffs of all time to play… Adams guitar with Danny’s fills in the chorus get me every time

Stop missing out.
Just enjoy the sound. People always stressed about the time signature.
I’m not stressing, I’m just curious, it’s like a puzzle to me.
For me the lyrics with Tool are often as important as the music in making the song complete.
Time signature throughout this song is 5/8. But they keep changing the feel
Checked your history looks like this is your first from TOOL, interesting selection but they don't have any bad ones really.
I’ll sub for another Tool song
Oh shit. 46 and two is your next step if you're studying the Shadow.
