As someone who used to make money at school fixing consoles, the super slim rarely had problems. It is by far one of the most reliable ps3’s. The other ones would always have disc drive issues.
I don't think that's a fair way to judge it though. BARELY anyone had a super slim, most people had the fat or slim ps3, that's why it "seems" like the super slim is the one being fixed the least

He’s not lieing my super slim ran in a puddle for a couple of hours and smoke started coming out of it and all I did was get it out of the water and un plug it and plugged it back then and it still worked fine and that was back in 2016 and I’m still playing on it and no issues
Want to know why that slide tray breaks so easily? YOU OPENED IT WRONG! There is a button on it. A BUTTON! You press it, and the tray pops open and easily slides to the side. That is why the slide door SNAPS shut. How is it all of these many years later people STILL open it wrong???
I had a fat ps3. It blew up. I got a super slim. It still works today. You’re also not supposed to open the door with your hands. There is a button on the other side of the PlayStation logo.

Totaly disagree. The fat models are loud and die often. The slim are much better then the fat but was also loud. The super slim was quiet and dont died. Yes the disc tray was not so elegant but the slot in drives in the fat and slim get also often broken. The first fats are cool because of PS2 compability and the first slims are cool because of CFW compability. For stock PS3 gaminig is the super slim the way to go
The ps has all ways had shit dvd/blu Ray drives even on the ps and ps2 they all ways broke, shit my mate got 3 ps brand new from the shop and all 3 were DOA and he then got the far better sage Saturn that worked unlike the Sony console lol.
As someone who's first console was a PS3 slim and it's my only PS3 that I ever had to this day , I always liked the super slim because of how cool it looked , my PS3 slim is getting a little old unfortunately so I think I'll try to get it fixed or buy a super slim . Also I have a question , my PS3 slim reads certain discs with no problem but struggles with other discs , I used to play Gran Turismo 6 with no problem but now the game starts and the screen turns black and nothing happens, I barely played Gran Turismo 6 in my life so that's why I found it weird because GTA 4 eflc is the game I played the most on my PS3 and it still works , but games like cod MW3 which was given to me by a friend and still looks new , well the MW3 disc doesn't even start , the console doesn't even read it . Not even close to true. Super Slim is most reliable. Less moving parts and longer lasting in the long run. I've never seen a broken one. It's quieter, runs cooler, and uses less power. Austin is just trying to be hipster. Anyone who had a fat back in the day knows how loud they were and how many of the them got the YLOD. This is just a bad take. A terrible one.

Compared to the other models it's still the most reliable and those power issues were in the power supply which could be replaced. The only other issue was people breaking the drive by sliding it too hard when they opened it instead of just pressing the button. People need to stop complaining about scratches on glossy plastic. That's going to happen no matter what. Especially when people go to clean the item off. Most grab paper towels not knowing it's actually abrasive. Even microfiber cloths will still leave a mark on glossy plastic.

It slipped into the nerve area, causing so much pain where I couldn’t bend my right leg or knee for almost a month. Even after the injection, I’m going to have issues for the rest of my life with that along with the arthritis I have in my back and knees at the age of 52 the body slows down with healing. As for my systems. I had to sell all of my PS3 games. I won’t be selling my PS4 or PS5 games. I still have my gray slim PlayStation 2 with the majority of my games that I had. Plus my Nintendo switch OLED an about 200 games.30% being imported games. My prayers are with you and that you get better soon. I know people who are living with MS and cancer. Like Austin said in the video yesterday about what happened 10 years ago with them we all have to make changes in our lives, because everything we have in front of us Can be taken away from us in a blink of an eye. @@MikePSN09 I'm on steroids also and I was having knee pain it was a sharp pain in the both of my knees , the doctors said it happens in Younger ppl (I'm 15) but they gave me medicine to keep the pain down but that wasn't rlly helping so my grandma took me to one of my appointments and they raised the dose and now I'm doing much better .

Owned the superslim for a decade now. Never had an issue. Bit yeah shiny plastic is easy to scratch and hard to clean. Only downside to still playing on ps3 is the scuffed psn log in
You're absolutely wrong. The original PS3 is one of the WORST models. Extremely high failure rate. Takes a world record for highest failure rate tbh. The PS3 super slim however, still has the capability to play PS3 games, AND has the lowest failure rate out of all PS3 models. I've owned EVERY single model of PS3 and all but the super slim have died to overheating issues, and soldering points melting, cracking or disconnecting.

They were the only ones that included the actual Emotion Engine and Graphics Synthesizer chips from the original PS2, guaranteeing game compatibility. A few later models had software emulation of the PlayStation 2, but the compatibility was never as good and as far as I’m aware, all the slim PS3 never had any PS2 compatibility, period

I’ve had my original fat PS3 since 2007, and it still works perfectly fine to this day. Haven’t had any issues with it and I grew up gaming on it a ton.
i think there is nothing wrong with the superslim model, i have one and the slightly smaller size allows it to fit on my shelf, plus i think the style is good looking (except for the glossy plastic which always have scraches) and yeah, no ps2 compatibility but the slim didn't have it either.
Agree. Sony making the slim models cheaper and worst than the original model is now a tradition. However, I still remember the awesome work the did with the PSOne.
I loved my super slim ps3. Still to this very day, it drives me insane that ppl will rip the CD cover open like the way he did. It literally has a button to open the cover. Wonder why ppl would break the cover. Thats why stop ripping it open use the button

I still have my PS3 Super Slim and the door still works on mine. Plus I can remove the disc if something ever to happen my PS3. And You don't have to worry about the system scratching the disc when moving the console. It might the cheapest, but I like the design. Very reliable as well, since its using a smaller chip.
I have owned a super slim since 2019, after my childhood fat model died over and over lol. I have never had a single issue with my super slim, the thing could probably stop a bullet and still work! I’ve had countless issues with PS4, before I fully moved on to PC. My PS3 I’ve always fell back on, it’s never failed me!
ps3 base model was notorious for constant issues with late life games like the last of us, or gta v, where the console would randomly and constantly black screen during gameplay, making it basically impossible to play those games. it was strange though because it varied console to console, not every base model had the issue but it was common
The PS3 Super Slim was my second console (after the first PS2 Slim model) and I play it to this day. I don't mind the top loading drive. My only problem is that it doesn't have backwards compatibility (unlike the first PS3) which I would definitely use
The PS3 Super slim is not bad. Because it was top load it is the most reliable one of all time. My console is the ceramic white super slim PS3 and it is not scratched up at all. Again the super slim are the most reliable ones of the 3. You can see the condition of my PS3 on my you tube channel. Still looks like new all these years.
Still have my original PS3 fat (the two USB version) that I purchased back in 2009. Actually didn't realize this until the other day is that my PS3 is the first console (not handheld) that I purchased with my own money (I got my Sega Genesis for Christmas back in the early 90's).
You know what I hate the most about the Playstation 3 launch edition? The fact that us Europeans got shafted by not having the physical PS2 Emotion Engine chip installed in ours like in the USA and Japan.
I had my first model PS3 brand new back in 2008 for only a month cause the disc drive couldn't respond because a small amount of dust was in it, I still have my PS3 Super Slim since 2012 and it still works like new!
Had a PS3 slim and after 2 years disc drive stopped working...bought a super slim and it didn't have an issue all the way up until my childhood house burned down
In my opinion, I think the PS3 super slim is the best because I have a original PS3 and this keeps on getting stuck in it, and I had this thing for like a couple months
PS1 second version was actually pretty bad. On mine, the lid open button kept getting stuck. The plug outlet, which was a fold up type, was prone to FALLING OUT OF THE SOCKET. The mini form factor was cool looking though.
The ps3 was a god console I started gaming with a ps3 slim and after i still have the second one (because the first one broke) and kept it for almost 11 years
I’ve got one of these still in use today, has worked perfectly with frequent use for like 12-13 years now, original controller still works perfect, games are great, disk drive is fine, nice slim design, been reliable as heck. I love it

Had my PS3 super slim every since 2014, I still use it to this day playing games like Mgs legacy collection and GTA IV, and and I don't have any issues
Austin called it the worst, not over reliability but over aesthetics and build quality - it just looked like a cheap knockoff, not worthy of the Sony badge.
As an owner of PS3 super slim, I never had problems with it. The only time it got bad was due to my younger bro (who was 10-ish at the time) didn't want to finish gaming for the evening and my mom decided to unplug the console (she's a fking She-Hulk when it comes to all the tech at home) and somehow the console took forever to recover the memory and stuck at 45% for hours. So yeah, overall it's a nice console even though certain games ran below 30fps at times.
I'm still using my super slim 11 years strong. It gave me a safety assurance back in the day, for I had a slim and the disk drive broke and had to manually eject disks so many times.

Hate on that disc drive all you want but I've used mine fairly regularly for over a decade and it still works great. After like eight years my original PS3 disc drive broke, and the disc was stuck in it and had to be ejected with the little button thing. Don't have to worry about that with the super slim, plus I'm sure I'm in the minority on this but I think it is a sexy ass console. I'll die fighting for that wonderful machine, Austin.
I never want anyone to forget about the dkoldies scams, they tried so hard to ignore it and brush it under the carpet, UA-camrs practically kept them in business for a month or two when everyone was testing their shitty refurbs
I had an original ps3 but of course, thermal paste issues and it finally crapped out. I have the super slim now and I had to have my buddy fix the sliding door switch. It works great now but I do miss using my original. I still kept it though. One day I may have it fixed.
my dad had to buy 3 super slims for my brother’s birthday back in 2015 before he got one that worked…. but, that third one has lasted a very long time and is in good condition. just played it last night
You do know the fat has many issues that require meticulous maintenance and fixes to keep it running. The super slim and even the normal slim are way more reliable.
Nah the super slim was great The ps3 outright was pretty bad tbh But of all 3 models the SS was nice The disc drive was fine if you used the actual button to open it like intended and closed it gently rather than slamming it around like it's wrestle mania Glossy paints always gonna scratch easy unless you use the right tools to clean it and it's just more noticeable on the SS due to most of it being matte and therefore the scratches are gonna be more concentrated and thus visible The worst part of it was the buttons though Those bar things sucked same with the shitty touch sensitive ones on the ps4 The lack of backwards compatibility was also sad but that was lost with the slim anyway hell not even all the fats got it
Ive had two PS3 fats, two PS3 slims and one super slim. The only ones that hasn't broke thank Christ are my backwards compatible PS3 and my super slim. The rest had the disk drive break, one of the slims had like the hard drive burn out or some shit and it was "unfixable" unless I got a formatted drive which couldn't find anywhere
The sliding door was actually a good idea that you for some reason you kept missing the point of. If by some chance the console was having issues, you won’t lose that disk provided the sliding part doesn’t malfunction either. With the other console though, if it totally doesn’t turn on, you’re screwed 🤷♂️ if it still had a disc in it and you wanted it.
My phat PS3 having disc drive issues is part of why I got a super slim my phat PS3 got to the point where I had to tear down the console just to swap games. The disc drive still worked but the insert/eject function stopped working.
Heard that the original PS3 had alot of reliability issues from online articles and even some friends of mine. My PS3 super slim never had any issues and is still alive today, 10 years later. AND, you are NOT supposed to open the disc tray like that, there’s a button for it. Also, speaking of sliding open disc trays, that actually has one huge advantage, and that is you never have to worry about your discs getting stuck inside the console, because even when it’s turned off you can easily push the button open and get your disc. I never had any disc tray issues with my PS4 and PS5, but the super slim just gives you extra peace of mind when it comes to disc trays.
The super slim, aka "K model" was the only one available when I finally bought one. I don't play with it that much these days, but I've never had any problems with it. But it's got plenty of hours on it.
How in the world did you come to this conclusion? These things are incredibly durable, mine is 10 years old, i got it after my regular slim died. Unless you use them as boxing gloves they keep going, i don't know anybody with a broken super slim either. I don't get what you people are doing to these things to break them and scratch them up. Oh and there's a button to release a spring and open the disc tray, suprised so many seem to have missed that over the years.

As a guy who grew up in the PS3 super slim, the only negative is the fact that you can’t play PS2 games on it.
The slim was the definitive ps3. I still use mine as a bluray player to this day. It was a massive improvement over the bulky unreliable original

i think there is nothing wrong with the superslim model, i have one and the slightly smaller size allows it to fit on my shelf, plus i think the style is good looking (except for the glossy plastic which always have scraches) and yeah, no ps2 compatibility but the slim didn't have it either.

I have had a super slim since 2012-2013, for the life of it I remember the eject button being broken so I opened it by hand, never had a problem

I still have my PS3 Super Slim and the door still works on mine. Plus I can remove the disc if something ever to happen my PS3.
And You don't have to worry about the system scratching the disc when moving the console.
It might the cheapest, but I like the design. Very reliable as well, since its using a smaller chip.
I have owned a super slim since 2019, after my childhood fat model died over and over lol. I have never had a single issue with my super slim, the thing could probably stop a bullet and still work! I’ve had countless issues with PS4, before I fully moved on to PC. My PS3 I’ve always fell back on, it’s never failed me!
As a Super Slim Owner i love it. Don't have to worry about YLOD or Disc Drive issues. Also it is easily moddable.
ps3 base model was notorious for constant issues with late life games like the last of us, or gta v, where the console would randomly and constantly black screen during gameplay, making it basically impossible to play those games. it was strange though because it varied console to console, not every base model had the issue but it was common
I disagree. It’s silent, quite compact and doesn’t fail as often as the other models. I think it isn’t even as ugly as it may look at first.

The PS3 Super Slim was my second console (after the first PS2 Slim model) and I play it to this day. I don't mind the top loading drive. My only problem is that it doesn't have backwards compatibility (unlike the first PS3) which I would definitely use
It should still have backwards compatibility for PlayStation 1 games, because all PS3's did.

The PS3 Super slim is not bad. Because it was top load it is the most reliable one of all time. My console is the ceramic white super slim PS3 and it is not scratched up at all. Again the super slim are the most reliable ones of the 3. You can see the condition of my PS3 on my you tube channel. Still looks like new all these years.

Still have my original PS3 fat (the two USB version) that I purchased back in 2009. Actually didn't realize this until the other day is that my PS3 is the first console (not handheld) that I purchased with my own money (I got my Sega Genesis for Christmas back in the early 90's).
You know what I hate the most about the Playstation 3 launch edition? The fact that us Europeans got shafted by not having the physical PS2 Emotion Engine chip installed in ours like in the USA and Japan.
I had my first model PS3 brand new back in 2008 for only a month cause the disc drive couldn't respond because a small amount of dust was in it, I still have my PS3 Super Slim since 2012 and it still works like new!

PS1 second version was actually pretty bad.
On mine, the lid open button kept getting stuck. The plug outlet, which was a fold up type, was prone to FALLING OUT OF THE SOCKET.
The mini form factor was cool looking though.

I’ve got one of these still in use today, has worked perfectly with frequent use for like 12-13 years now, original controller still works perfect, games are great, disk drive is fine, nice slim design, been reliable as heck. I love it

Had my PS3 super slim every since 2014, I still use it to this day playing games like Mgs legacy collection and GTA IV, and and I don't have any issues

As an owner of PS3 super slim, I never had problems with it. The only time it got bad was due to my younger bro (who was 10-ish at the time) didn't want to finish gaming for the evening and my mom decided to unplug the console (she's a fking She-Hulk when it comes to all the tech at home) and somehow the console took forever to recover the memory and stuck at 45% for hours. So yeah, overall it's a nice console even though certain games ran below 30fps at times.
I'm still using my super slim 11 years strong. It gave me a safety assurance back in the day, for I had a slim and the disk drive broke and had to manually eject disks so many times.

Hate on that disc drive all you want but I've used mine fairly regularly for over a decade and it still works great. After like eight years my original PS3 disc drive broke, and the disc was stuck in it and had to be ejected with the little button thing. Don't have to worry about that with the super slim, plus I'm sure I'm in the minority on this but I think it is a sexy ass console. I'll die fighting for that wonderful machine, Austin.
I never want anyone to forget about the dkoldies scams, they tried so hard to ignore it and brush it under the carpet, UA-camrs practically kept them in business for a month or two when everyone was testing their shitty refurbs
My 2006 fat is still going strong. Thinking of replacing the thermal paste soon though.
I had an original ps3 but of course, thermal paste issues and it finally crapped out. I have the super slim now and I had to have my buddy fix the sliding door switch. It works great now but I do miss using my original. I still kept it though. One day I may have it fixed.
my dad had to buy 3 super slims for my brother’s birthday back in 2015 before he got one that worked…. but, that third one has lasted a very long time and is in good condition. just played it last night
You do know the fat has many issues that require meticulous maintenance and fixes to keep it running. The super slim and even the normal slim are way more reliable.

But of all 3 models the SS was nice
The disc drive was fine if you used the actual button to open it like intended and closed it gently rather than slamming it around like it's wrestle mania
Glossy paints always gonna scratch easy unless you use the right tools to clean it and it's just more noticeable on the SS due to most of it being matte and therefore the scratches are gonna be more concentrated and thus visible
The worst part of it was the buttons though

The lack of backwards compatibility was also sad but that was lost with the slim anyway hell not even all the fats got it

Ive had two PS3 fats, two PS3 slims and one super slim. The only ones that hasn't broke thank Christ are my backwards compatible PS3 and my super slim. The rest had the disk drive break, one of the slims had like the hard drive burn out or some shit and it was "unfixable" unless I got a formatted drive which couldn't find anywhere
Cell processor is basically had an integrated GPU ... Later Sony paid a lot of money for a dedicated GPU

The sliding door was actually a good idea that you for some reason you kept missing the point of.
If by some chance the console was having issues, you won’t lose that disk provided the sliding part doesn’t malfunction either.
With the other console though, if it totally doesn’t turn on, you’re screwed 🤷♂️ if it still had a disc in it and you wanted it.
I remember getting this on Black Friday because I wanted a slim, returned it the next day after I felt how cheap that disc door was
My phat PS3 having disc drive issues is part of why I got a super slim my phat PS3 got to the point where I had to tear down the console just to swap games. The disc drive still worked but the insert/eject function stopped working.
PS3 fat w the chrome rails was fully backwards compatible with ps1 and 2 games
I got my ps3 super slim in 2013 and it still works perfect in 2024

I have the super slim and I admit that this CD slot is crap, I thought I had broken the console the first time I slotted it
Heard that the original PS3 had alot of reliability issues from online articles and even some friends of mine. My PS3 super slim never had any issues and is still alive today, 10 years later. AND, you are NOT supposed to open the disc tray like that, there’s a button for it.
Also, speaking of sliding open disc trays, that actually has one huge advantage, and that is you never have to worry about your discs getting stuck inside the console, because even when it’s turned off you can easily push the button open and get your disc. I never had any disc tray issues with my PS4 and PS5, but the super slim just gives you extra peace of mind when it comes to disc trays.
The super slim, aka "K model" was the only one available when I finally bought one. I don't play with it that much these days, but I've never had any problems with it. But it's got plenty of hours on it.
How in the world did you come to this conclusion? These things are incredibly durable, mine is 10 years old, i got it after my regular slim died. Unless you use them as boxing gloves they keep going, i don't know anybody with a broken super slim either. I don't get what you people are doing to these things to break them and scratch them up. Oh and there's a button to release a spring and open the disc tray, suprised so many seem to have missed that over the years.
