I still play my PS3 even to this day. The PS3 just has a lot of fun single player games and the games themselves still focused on gameplay first, graphics second. My problem with modern games is that too many of them feel ike interactive movies, rather then games. With the PS3, even with the PS2 I can easily go back and replay my favourite games, since their gameplay is so much fun and didn't feel like it wastes your time with too many cutscenes and slow walking segments. PS3 games I still find joy playing are: InFamous series, Ratchet & Clank A Crack in Time, Uncharted 1 & 2, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, God of War Trilogy, and many others.

As you say the games still look great so no need to. A PS3 can also be bought really cheap and be jailbroken by anyone with a slight bit of technical knowledge and games easily downloaded.
Some Games that are part of series, should get a connection option, trough your account. If you start on PS3 and the series keeps going PS4, PS5 and onwards. You get some bonuses etc
I just bought one. Took an absolute gamble in CEX on a super slim. Wanted a fat so I could play PS2 but that was still mega expensive and even more unreliable So far everything works great. Online download speeds are painful for really tiny games, and I’ve only had a single game I bought on disk not work for me. But I paid £3.50 for it so it’s not really a hardship. What worries me is how fast they’ll remove PS Store. No date on it and there’s a lot I want to collect digitally, but I can’t just dump tons of money on the store right now. So as long as there’s a year or so left I should be fine Was worried about overheating as my cousins PS3 slim sounded insane even back in 2013, but pleased to say the console gets very hot but doesn’t seem to have any major fan issues. And the games… I’m so glad I did it just to play some of my old favourites. It’s a crime that with PS4 they removed the ability to play anything backwards compatible. It’s so weird going back to a console which, yes removed PS2 back compat, but was from a time when the content of games still felt more important than fancy graphics or online gamepass features. If anyone is thinking about it, I couldn’t stop thinking about it for a week and finally dove in. Haven’t regretted it yet Total UK cost for anyone interested PS3 Slim Unboxed (didn’t want discounted) £80 A few games (all around £1 mark to £5 max) - £10 I did spend £30 on the PS Store too. PS3 slim 2501 and 2501B are the best slims. Mid 2010 And up to January 2011. Those are the only ones to go for. They have great build quality, do CFW and are reliable.
I still use both of my PS3 consoles. The 320GB and 500GB. Although the latter has become a tad finicky on what games it will read (especially Arkham Asylum). The 320GB is still going flawlessly.
Yeah I still have my Playstation 3 and it works amazing there's so many good games for it that I have I'll never be able to play all of them and they all look spectacular no different than anything that's coming up brand new
I got the superslim and a controller with original box for 35€. Very little used, allmost like it was new. Have had great moments on rdr online 😊 i dont like to waste money on games but this time i did it.
I prefer the feel of dualshock 3 over dualshock 4 personally. The small size allowed me to NOT hold it in its curves and have a thumb position above the thumb stick, giving more accurate movements... but there's no way every hand could have the same experience I did.. i think i just got lucky haha Dualsense is great aside from adaptive triggers pushing the controller out of your hand (technically). You have to squeeze to counter the trigger forces.. though I love it hehe I just bought a ps3 superslim after giving up waiting on sony to give a good answer to backwards compatibility 😅 Graphics definitely hold up to todays standards tbh (usually) Framerates... not so much
i want it for a single game anything else is bonus :D does anyone know if people still play sfxt online and whats that you cant buy games with credit card thing i heard
I’ve just bought one and I’ve got a 65” TV I’d say it looks pretty serviceable. Some games obviously are blown up beyond the TV’s they were originally designed for, but I’ve never been a major graphics snob so I’d say it’s serviceable The only thing that will be a pain is speed in every sense. Games don’t run at 60fps and I’ve always said it doesn’t bother me but it’s noticeable now most PS5 games are. Load times can be ungodly on some games simply because of how old the console is and if you download anything from the PS Store be prepared to wait 10 minutes for a 500mb game. BUT I bought one three days ago and I’ve already been having more fun going back to some classic games I grew up with than I have with my PS5 for a while
I have to change a thermal paste, but I am afraid to do it. I don't have so much experience. The worst thing is, I live in a 3rd world country, nobody's working these services, so I must do it myself. Anybody here who changed it on his own? Any advice? For what I should be carefull?
I still use mine and usually don't buy games from the PS store, just the DLC or so. I just like still finding a game on Blu-ray for it in a store for it, that's just a few Euro
I was down on money had to sell my Xbox series S so I just pulled out the old PS3 slim start playing GTA five and ironically GTA five has held up really well considering it’s a 10-year-old game lol
I also just bought one, not at £55 though. If you want PS2 backwards compatibility I’d say you’ve gone for the wrong model and need the OG fat PS3. But this one SHOULD do PS1 games on disk. Anything else and you’ll have to download from the PS3 store if it’s on there
we shouldn't be ok with companies re-releasing games from older generations, it's scummy and should be pointed out as such. the games are already there, they didn't disappear nor were they made unplayable. no one in their right mind should be paying for something a second time just to experience it anew on a newer console. Also take a closer look at these re-releases, their quality or lack there of. The new STAR WARS Battlefront Classic Collection and Halo The Master Chief Collection comes to mind. wouldn't it be cool if they allowed us to play our old games on newer hardware no fuss? like back with the ps1 and ps2. Like with the gameboy and gameboy colour.
In a way, we are starting to see a return to backwards compatibility (PS5 to PS4) for example. I do not think tho, that native PS3 compatibility is something Sony will ever want to achieve.
hi guys i mainly have 2 questions 1. when Sony decides to cut online support for ps3 will it affect me if i want to collect games for ps3? and 2. are ps3 game disks as reliable as ps4 blue ray discs?
I don't own too many digital games for my PS3, so collecting them digitally isn't really that big of a deal to me. However, I do own mostly physical copies and to me they hold up just about as good as any other game I have no matter whether it's the PS4 or PS5 so hopefully this help answer your questions.
The online support is already less than it used to be, so depends how good the on disk market is where you live. I’ve found most games I fancied redownloading are on there in terms of PS2/PS1 classics, but a lot of third party stuff you have to buy physical now by the looks of things. I’d say if you’re unsure now is the time to get it. There’s every chance they close the PS3 Store tomorrow and once they do that, it’s gone for good. But for maybe another year or two while they haven’t done it now is a great time to start collecting As for disks being reliable… I’ve bought 6 games with the console and only 1 (WAW) is just giving me a black screen and not loading. But it cost £3.50 so I’ll go and rebuy it and see if it’s just that one disk having issues
I'll say one thing the super slim stays the coolest and is easy to repair, no cfw just hen but i don't mind honestly. The slim my father in law bought one on launch day it's still kicking doesn't stay as cool but it's pretty reliable and better looking. Had the mgs4 80gb bc model it ylod on me back in 2014. I miss all it's usb slots but as far as backwards compatibility all ps3's can play ps2 games with hen or cfw with a decent percentage of compatibility there's even hd collections or remasters of plenty of games as well. Unless you bought a mint modified 60gb model with new modified capacitors and thermal paste stay away chose the other 2.
PS3 slims have no disk based backwards compatibility with PS2 titles. If you want a PS3 model that does that, you have to settle for the earliest models: CECHAxx model from 2006, CECHBxx model from 2006, or the CECHExx model from 2007.
