I love your transparency.
Also, did you know that your videos are toddler tantrum magic? I can scoop up my daughter mid-tantrum, put one your videos on my phone, and she quiets down. Magic.
it's a mom thing LOL
thank you for making me smile
this was a hard vid for me to watch
and your comment made me happy
hugs @Marcia Nordmyer
hug to you too Lisa with your toddler tantrum magic stuff
:@)
This reminds me of when my sister was small. My godmother wanted to carry my sister (she was a week old) and my mom gave her my sister and she started crying. So my godmother passed her to my mom. Then they kept passing my sister between them. When my sister was in my moms or dads arms she was silent. With anyone else she cried. So my godmother made the joke. Look she has an on and off switch!
I know you made this comment two years ago but I thought it still deserved some praise! Even though it’s the right thing to do, thank you for allowing your child a healthy outlet! ❤️
You're not more than human Lisa, we've all been there thinking the fish brought home looks healthy and perfectly fine. I'm sorry for you and your loss
Very sorry for your loss. It seems like it's always the "one time" you decide not to follow procedure it'll backfire on you. Thanks for being honest and sharing. Take care 😢❤️
I know this is an old thread but just want to tell you that you have motivated me to create a betta sorority tank and I have the ladies' future home cycling now. I also have a tank with a few ryukins and wanted to add a moor. I found one that was beautiful, fat, and active. I decided it was best to quarantine due to watching your videos and not wanting to risk my ryukins. I started with General Cure and within 1 day that moor passed 2 tape worms (that I saw) and then began to develop ich!!!! So glad I did not take a chance! I have never wormed my fish in the past and wonder how many I have had that transferred worms. Odd, since I always worm all my other newly acquired animals (dogs, cats, horse, goats, chickens). I will definitely treat...and quarantine... all new fish as a precaution from here on. BTW, I also wormed the ryukins since they never have been treated and they were fine. Whew!
I've had this happen to me once, and I swore I'd never do it again. It's really hard to have a proper quarantine tank if you only have a couple of aquariums, but it's absolutely necessary. I'm sorry you have to go through something this difficult...
beginner fish enthusiast here! I had a 5 gallon tank with one betta, something happened with him so I started fresh with a 20 gallon. I started using my 5 gallon to put my new fish into before they go into the big tank. Just to see if they are sick or not I thought it might be a good idea.. glad to see that I was spot on about my hunch! Thanks for the video. I love the beta sorority tank.
I just had this happen with some guppies I got from a pet store. I had 2 guppies for about 8 months, and I wanted more so I got 4 more. I fell in love. But 3 days later i noticed one had fin rot, started to treat and slowly lost all but 1, to a mystery illness, except for one who is the last one who is sick. I'd love to see how to properly quarantine, I am still learning fish keeping.
Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry ☹️ I know how you feel when you get excited about adding new/more fish to an existing tank. I’ve done the same thing myself. I really do feel your pain. I’m having a hydra problem in my tank because I didn’t quarantine the plants. Never again.
Had a similar experience. I have a 125 community tank filled with 6 types of rainbows, Tanzanian cichlids, Angel's, assorted cories, and plecos. My son caught a baby large mouth bass in a minnow trap and wanted to show me. Well he put it in the 125( it was the same size as a neon) and forgot. By the time I got back from serving overseas(2 weeks). It was too late
oh no
I literally did the same with my Favorite Corys. Didn’t acclimate correctly and 3 out of 6 died. I was so sad
F
Don't feel bad Lisa. I literally done the exact same thing with my beautiful Betta sorority. Peppered Cory's did not get quarantined and it turns out they were carrying ich. All but 1 out of 16 Bettas died. Also lost all the peppered Cory's, and Harlequin Rasbora's. I was crushed. I honestly haven't recovered yet... Nice 40 gallon sitting empty for 3 months now!
It's been a year, have you started the tank up again?
Sorry about the hard lesson learned, we've all done it, don't be so hard on yourself.
I am glad you did make this video to remind all fish keepers dont rush good fish keeping as one simple oversight because you rushed to get a perfect looking tank can have disastrous consequences. And we have all been guilty at one time or another. Sometimes every thing goes well but the odds are stacked against you unless their you own fish. Buying new fish from any fish store is Russia roulette and placing them straight away into a tank as you never know were those fish came from or how they were cared for. Even nets, water buckets and general maintenance equipment can cause transmission of deadly virus and bacteria from one tank to another. Sterilization of that equipment between tank is very important. And if possible seperate equipment for each tank and only for that tank. Rushing maintenance of you tanks without proper precautions is just as bad as new fish. And make sure you quarantine tanks and maintenance Equipment is always kept seperate from you display and breeder tanks. It is possible to wipe out a whole fish room because you were hasty in you fish maintenance and introducing new fish. It can create a huge amount of additional work to correct your mistakes you could have easily avoided. The time, the loss of animal life, the addition work and the financial cost losses all because of the lack of being responsible, which could have been more than enough money to set up several new tanks or buy additional maintenance equipment 6depending on the quality and types of fish you can lose.
Thanks for you honesty and a great reminder for us all to slow down and be more responsible for the animals and marine life we keep.
But nevertheless I am so sorry for you loss. I know you could kick your self in the backside for being impatient but remember you channel is to teach people how to keep aquarium and this is one of those lessons we all need to remember. So thanks again for share it with us all. I know you feel bad but it is a mistake as fish keepers we all have made at one time or another but it hard when it happens and as we feel so bad at many levels because we knew better to begin with and we were impatient. But after it happens we have to pick ourselves back up wiser from the situation and move on a a hard lesson learned or relearned.
Thank you for having the courage to put this video out there. This will serve as a warning to so many people. I’m so sorry you lost so many of your fish. I’ve been watching your videos and I’m learning a lot. This was a horrible experience for you, but I will definitely always quarantine.
You didn't murder the purples, you made a mistake we all mess up some times! It's good that your putting it out there that you make mistakes too!
Cory cats when stressed put out a toxin to keep from being eaten could that be what happened to your fish
They can when under extreme stress, but I'm fairly sure that just 6 in a 125 gal wouldn't have been the cause. Lack of QT is much more likely, many corys are wild caught and who knows what they could be bringing into your tank...
That would be a stronger case if they were in a very small aquarium. The volume of water vs the number of corys make me think its probably not it.
that was not what happened because it's not true cory cats cant put out a toxin I have 7 cory cats in my tank with my bettas for 2 years and I've never had a thing like this happen not one of my fish have died
😮
Ew
I’ve rushed before also and added fish to my aquariums without quarantine and it was a big mistake 😔 Great video explaining why quarantine is important 😊
I just add the fish and medicate the entire tank for a couple weeks
I'm just starting a 45gl tank and have a Half Moon King wandering all alone. I was getting excited to get a school of Cory Catfish friends for him. But now. . . I'm going to cycle my 10gl so they can quarantine. Thanks for the reminder.
So happy to be following some youtubers who are transparent. Over the past couple weeks 3 of my favorites have had rough moments and they been willing to share that sometimes the ugly happens in this wonderful hobby. Thank you rob rachel and now lisa for this.
Awww, Lisa, I'm SOOO sorry! We've all known that excitement of getting a new fish in the tank, and sometimes our heart wins out over our heads! I've learned to QT even my inverts and my plants, thankfully due to youtubers like yourself more than direct losses. I'd just been rewatching your 'Top 10 mistakes of UA-cam fishkeepers" series, and thinking over my worst mistakes as next month marks my first year back in the hobby-first as an adult. (Went from 1x 10 gallon that my dad bought used in 1970!, to 13 tanks now active and 8 more that will be set up by Christmas!!!). My biggest mistake was probably buying those dozen cardinal tetras from a store a few hours away, and trusting the store to sell me healthy fish and know what they were doing as they bagged them up for me for the long trip home. Lost 11 out of 12 of them, most of them in the first few days, either because they didn't get enough air in their bags or they were sick with something that never became obvious or diagnosable. One bag of six was noticeably paler than the other, and definitely less air at the top-both had way too much water and too little air for a trip of more than half an hour, much less 4-5 hours as I've since learned :( The tank had been cycled for months, tested weekly (0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, a trace of nitrate, and pH which should have been well within the safe range), had 2 different species successfully QT'd and another happily housed in that time frame, had been fully scaped & planted out, with time for the substrate to mature and the plants to root properly--in short, the tank was perfect and ready to go. It was devastating, and my attempts at treatment caused further losses (plants which didn't like Kanaplex, apparently), and forced me to rehome some fish, and neglect other projects (namely, some nice/pricy plants which didn't get planted out properly that I'd bought from another, better store in the same city). Even our initial, complete ignorance of the nitrogen cycle hadn't been as fatal to our fish as the mess that fish store sent me home with. Thank goodness my QT contained it to that single tank & species!!
Oh no! That's so sad. 😔
When I set up this tank, my original fish went to my LFS for a holiday while I made sure it was cycled properly. They were all super healthy when they came back so I had intended to get more a fortnight later as I was confident they'd be ok without quarantine as they'd been living in the same system.
Long story short, my whole family got sick just after I got my fish back and by the time I was organised enough to get more fish, too much time had passed for me to feel comfortable skipping quarantine (and I don't have room for 2 tanks). So, my little gang are living their best fishy life in 33 gallons of luxury. 🤣
I'm so sorry that happened. I'm glad you are being transparent though. I've done it too. I lost some treasured Amazon Puffers because I was impatient. 😢💗🐡💗
Sorry for your loss Lisa. Don't beat yourself up too much, we've all been there done that. Take it as a lesson to never sway from what works. I know the feeling when you get new fish, so anxious to get them in the tank but patience is a virtue in the fish hobby my friend. I know this experience will not deter you from the hobby nor has it me, but it is a hard pill to swallow. Try not to blame yourself too much. Thank you for being real and sharing not only the good but the bad stuff too. Good luck on the tanks. I love all the beautiful bettas. They are dear to my heart. I own 6 currently ❤🐟
Oh gosh! You and Rachel in one day 😟
It happens, sad lesson I am sure.
Thanks for your honesty and for sharing with us.
I just made the same mistake with a kuhli loach. Im sorry you went through it. It was heart breaking and I still feel so guilty for not quarantining. I had a run of good luck with medicating while acclimating and I thought that was good enough. Now I know better.
I ❤️ how you teach us through your tragedies/“mistakes” (as you say)...I lost a sweet betta and some rummy nose for the same reason of being anxious. I got some guppies ....... all from an extremely reputable fish shop! Lesson learned: (like you said), no matter how PERFECT they look/act... they can be sick. Now I QUARANTINE no matter what!
You didn't murder those fish Lisa Marie. You're the most caring, sweet, lover of fishies on UA-cam. You seriously care about your little guys. Thank you for your honesty.. but don't be too hard on yourself. We live and we learn.. it's just that sometimes we need a reminder here and there. Thank you!!!
Bummer! So sorry this happened. But thanks for being open and honest with us about it. That's what makes you guys so awesome. You're so transparent. Can't wait to see the 90 setup.
Pre-kids, I had MANY tanks (large and smaller) with different types of fish (e.g., community, betta, discus). Watching these videos make me think I should get back into them now :)
Really appreciate these types of videos. It shows that everyone makes mistakes, we learn, and we move on and do better next time. I'm sorry for the losses, but I'm glad you're keeping your spirits high.
I have NEVER been a fan of Betta sororities. I find that it's never in the best interest of the fish, and more for show. However, I always thought your sorority was the exception. It was HUGE, and had plenty of plants, rocks, driftwood, and I had high hopes it would last. I'm so sorry for your loss. Everyone makes mistakes, and that you for informing others, so they can learn from your mistakes. I'm sorry for your loss.
Awww cher I’m sorry that happened to you!!! I want to thank you for doing this experience in the first place. We are going to learn a lot through your work with this tank and will continue to support you!!
Sorry about your loss. Glad to see though you were able to bounce back. Those Angels look really pretty and should be great grown out.
Very helpful ma'am... Even after being such a experience fish keeper u made such a basic mistake of not quarantining them.. Due to such excitement of new fish.... But everyone makes such mistakes and learns from them.. I am also planning on a betta sorority type tank.. Thank you for your info..
Hi Lisa, I appreciate your honesty and transparency, and my best guess is, so do your fans. Keep your chin up young lady! You got a great head on your shoulders. Thanks very much for sharing 👍.
i admit
i did shed a tear for her fish friends
i'm a fish nerd to be sure
hell i cry when i have to get out the shovel for any of my own fin, scale or fur house mates
it is so hard to lose our aqua roommates when we don't know why
i agree with you @Denny's Aquatics
transparency helps me be a better fish mom
honesty is always appreciated from everyone everywhere
stiff upper lip
chin up
keep calm and quarantine
:@)
Sorry for your loss... I know not only the bettas, but also the ember tetras, were special to you. Thanks for being honest about what happened so that newcomers into the hobby can learn about what not to do. I had something similar happen twice - First time I got cardinal tetras for my guppy tank and didn't quarantine them... 24 hours later they were covered in ich - they all survived that experience, but it caused me tons of guilt and stress. Second time... my shrimp tank I am setting up... I quarantined the plants, but not the rocks and I forgot to scrub my Java Fern... well now I have a leech in that tank that I gotta figure out how to catch -_- and I got snails... the snails I don't mind as much (I was going to add MTS anyways) as I want to get a Pea Puffer and this I actually want a culture of bladder snails, but I will probably remove the ramshorn as the ramshorns in my 29 gallon had a population boom, outcompeted my bladder snails, then suddenly crashed with dead snails everywhere.
I'm so sorry for your loss. My heart broke watching the video. I'm fairly new to the hobby (COVID hobby turned MTS). It is helpful, sadly, to have an expert make a mistake. A good lesson for the rest of us. Also, what was most helpful was the description of your reaction-general cure and water changes. I was waiting for the salt. As a newby it is soooo hard to figure out good advice on disease from bad advice. I've killed a lot of fish listening to bad advice.
(Btw, my dream tank is Betta sorority. I love the females, they are a lot more active and interesting!) Please keep posting. It would be awesome to have a video on the actual steps of buying, quarantining, the small groups and such. Not a lot info online about the sororities.
I'm sorry about your fish! Sometimes its easy to overlook or forget to do something and it turns out badly. I want to learn as much as I can so thank you for sharing what happened. It will definitely help others avoid the same mistake! Your videos and advise have been extremely helpful to me! 😊
I had a tropical tank that I had been establishing for almost five years. Had about a dozen fish in it. Made the same mistake of not quarantining, and within a week ALL but a single fish had died of ich. I'm not new to keeping aquariums either...big lesson I had to learn
So sorry for your loss. Thank you so much for sharing this experience, as a new fish keeper I learn so much from these videos.
Adding New fish 101....always quarantine!! And I know this BUT I have to admit sometimes I don't do it either ....ill use this video as my reminder to myself....no matter how good I think I am I can't see invisible illnesses ALWAYS QUARANTINE! thank you for reminding us no one is perfect when it comes to fish keeping....we need to keep learning every day !! You're amazing!! Glad you and John came back to UA-cam....you were missed!!
How sad, I'm so sorry for your loss. A great reminder to everyone in the hobby to QT.
Awee sorry for your loss Lisa, and a huge hug of support, I think every fishkeeper has just thrown what looks like healthy fish into a tank. Thank you for sharing your story ❤️
I rushed to make my tank ready and to add neon tetras and they all died within a day. Almost lost faith in myself but I’m learning and now I want to take care of bettas because they are so under appreciated
Its ok lesia, im stupid too, i once put API algae fix in my planted tank with my wild caught ghost shrimp.... yeah api algeafix and inverts, dont mix, always read everything your new fish care products
Sorry for loss. Great to see you rebounded with strength 💪Best wishes with the Betta Sorority 2.0.
I so appreciate your transparency. It really helps us all! And here’s the question. When you say I did constant water changes what does that actually mean - every day? Every other day? ANd, some day I look forward to buying some Betta’s from you. I’d love to create a Betta Sorority!
I recently lost my rescue betta fish and one of my Cory catfish within one day.. My Cory was fairly new to the tank (about two weeks) he was a green Cory. I also got a peppered Cory. They were schooling together and literally everything was fine. I don’t believe my green Cory was killed by any of the other fish in the tank. Everything had been fine for two weeks! I think maybe he was just sick? I’m not sure. As for my betta he was hiding then he moved and I saw that the top half of his fins were GONE. He was very sad and didn’t swim or eat. I thought he would survive since he survived months of abuse from his previous owner. Unfortunately he didn’t and my heart broke. He meant the actual world to me. I nursed him back to Health. I miss him so much. It breaks my heart not knowing what happened. My best guess is that he got stuck in a decoration or he got in a fight with the other fish (which I don’t know if I believe that cause he had already been with them for awhile). I also did a filter change a few days before. Which I’m not sure either if it had an impact. It’s already been about 5 days and I have a feeling of emptiness in my heart. Fish and pets in general are so amazing. They instantly mean so much to you.
To create this video required a lot of character and bravery. You took a stressful and heartbreaking event and chose to use your experience to try (and most certainly succeed) to help others. Thank You.
The same thing did happen to me also in my 125 betta sorority. Although I did quarantine the neon tetras that I got from lps, they died I could only save less then half
Sorry you had to go through that. I knew better but I thought that the water and tank was clean so everything would be fine. Three days later Ick almost wiped out my whole tank. I treated the whole tank. I thought I was going to lose all of my fish. I lost the three new ones and fortunately all of the rest survived. I learned my lesson. Never again will I do that.
So sad! Right now I'm kind of walking a thin line. I recently got 5 -1 Harlequin Rasboria and added them to my betta tank and I was going to treat after I added 3 more. A power outage later and I just put a new betta in the tank, so hopefully in another week I'll add the last fish and give them all some General Cure, Ich X, and, Maracym. Fingers crossed, they will all pull through.
And I'll make everyone pull out their hair when I mention that the tank hasn't had a water change in about 3 or 4 months. Even after a dead fish in the tank for 12 hours or more all the water parameters are still perfect. Zero ammonia, nitrite or nitrate. That is a good idea for a tank you have lying around: do a Walstad style tank as she describes in Ecology of the Planted Aquarium. Really amazing results!
Careful about adding medication; it's not generally a good idea to medicate without proper diagnosis of what illness, and preventative dosing can do more harm than good, as any medication can have toxic side effects. Also, those meds can affect your plants and your beneficial bacteria (even ones supposedly safe to both, I know from experience), so generally best to treat in a hospital tank whenever possible.
@@annethornton9938 Generally true, however that particular trio is safe to mix and does not negatively affect the plants, snails, or bacteria. In fact, Aquarium Coop uses it on all their incoming fish.
I am so sorry! We all live and learn and no one is above a few mistakes from time to time. You are both so knowledgable and so many of us learn so much from you. Your tanks are all beautiful. You are both amazing fish parents!!!
So sad! That’s a lot of hard work. Hard lesson learned. How do you clean (and keep it clean) a tank that big and decorated? Those tanks are beautiful.
On a side note I love my cory cats. They help to keep my tanks clean.
On a side side note, and one that’s beyond the point, as someone just past a year in this hobby I’d rather see a slowly released video series instead of something put on fast.
Wish I had the room and time for a bigger tank! Also wish I had a fish club in my city. I’d love to keep learning from locals as well as from online people such as yourself!
Recently made the same error and two of my rams now have intestinal parasites that they can’t seem to shake all because I added two guppies with no quarantine. 😓
70Harper I think my Bolivian ram might have the same problem ngl
I just added 4 juvenile females to my 14 gallon cube with my 1 female that i have had for a while. There are also 7 neon tetras and 3 black neon tetras... My original female is acting very aggressive towards all the fish. The 10 tetras have been in this tank for about 6 months. I added all the females at once, even the one i had for a while. I'm beginning to think this was a mistake and may return the 4 juvenile females i purchased. I hate to do that, but I want them to be happy. Its only been 1 day. I'm gonna give it 3 days to see if they settle in. Thanks KG for all of your videos... I definitely credit some of my success to you guys ... And my OCD 😂😂
So sorry Lisa! The same thing happened to my betta sorority after adding Cory cats. Weird, because that was in 2012. I ordered the bettas online, but bought the corys from my nearby Petco. I was more worried that the imports would have a disease, but it was the corys who all died within a week, then each betta died 😞
Bummer... Yep sadly fish can pick up a disease and not even show symptoms until they are sold and in your tank.
Hard habit to keep 100% of the time....but yes...quarantining is critical. Good video.
Sorry for your losses😔💐. One un quarantined betta killed all my sorority. I learned the hard way. 😔
Regardless of mistakes made I'd like to say that this tank is so gorgeous I had a hard time listening. Kept wanting to take control of the camera and explore. "No wait don't pan away!- poo." I'll be watching the setup video for sure.
Awe, Lisa. I'm so sorry you had to deal with this. Hugs, girl.
💕👍💕
Don't be embarrassed because you made a mistake! You should only be embarrassed if you hadn't told us about it and had tried to hide it! We all make mistakes, but not everyone will own up to them. Good for you on doing the right thing!
Yup, I learned the hard way with this too.. quarantine is ALWAYS worth it. You might be fine many times of just adding new fish, but that ONE time is all it takes to wipe out your entire stock, its heartbreaking! I almost tore all my tanks down & quit the hobby completely I was so frustrated & devastated. Needless to say, I am still in the hobby & now I QUARANTINE and ALWAYS have 2 extra 10g running for quarantine & for a medical tank if I get sick fish. Great video! We all make mistakes & that's how we learn!
God Bless! ❤
Everyone makes these mistakes once and a while.. and showing the downsides can help us all grow! It happens to the best of us. I brought some otto’s home a few months back and did the same thing.
I have a problem with quarantine tanks, I buy one then I quarantine the fish, put them in the main tank, am left with an empty tank, think I know, I should get some more fish for this tank, get the fish, then want more fish so buy another quarantine.... The cycle continues.
its nice to hear even higher experienced keepers , still experience die offs. not the dead fish but that i shouldnt feel as bad about my last die off....
Dang! I did that not that long ago. Those guppies were sick and made ADFs, our betta and other fish sick. Tried meds and everything and we were still plagued by death. We only had a few survivors. Start over! 😭 So now quarantining religiously as we are restocking.
“After I murdered my purple ember tetras..” 😂😂 girl everyone makes mistakes sometimes
oh no Lisa, I'm so very sorry..it breaks my heart to see you so sad and upset..but don't beat yourself for something we have all done
We all make mistakes Lisa. Don't be too hard on yourself. I added some glowlight tetras to my 4 foot tetra tank without quaranting and next thing ICK! Live and learn. Your tanks are beautiful.
So I just got 3 lovely female bettas today. Still getting the tank ready at the moment but I wonder if I should keep them temporarily in their cup containers to make sure none of them are sickly? They seem happy and healthy and are very active. Also I would like any tips on how to introduce them to the tank once it’s ready. I have their cups near each other and they don’t seem aggressive towards each other. Just waiting for the tank to cycle through. It’s going to be just them 3 so I got a big enough tank so they can have their own space. They are pretty girls. One is mostly white with red flame like tips on her fins and the others are solid blue and purple which is pretty amazing considering that they are female.
I started a small sorrority of 3 by adding 2 paired bettas with my other female at first she was curious then suddenly grew territorial so I quarantined her for a week then put her back and now they get along and i still keep an eye for signs of fighting. So far they are getting along and have plenty of space.
I always treat the tank with general cure when I add fish. I lost a bunch of cory cats several times because I hadn't done research and I didn't know to quarantine. Now I treat every fish that I get just to make sure. I was so sad when my cory cats died.
Thank you so much for your frankness and honesty. It's really appreciated and makes me like your channel even more and respect you personally.
Thank you for this video and your honesty about the ordeal, it will be a reminder for all of us to quarantine new fish
Personally I think what you do is amazing everybody makes mistakes I had a issues with anglefish and lost 8 but all good now keep making the videos and I will keep watching
I was talking to a lady at Walmart this evening and she did that to. Bought a couple of fish at petsupermarket or petco.. and put them in her tank.. and then her fish started dying. I told her I watch fish stuff on UA-cam and they all say to quarantine new fish first..
I admire u for being so honest & ur courage of sharing ur mistakes. Lessons learned.
i can tell it must have taken allot of courage for you to do this video
i sure appreciate that fact that you did tell us what the heck happened
there is nothing easy about losing our fishy friends
i cant believe it came down to a quarantine issue
oh man quarantine
wow
so so so very important
holy hell i cant believe it came down to some dang thing that the cory cats dragged in
this wasn't your fault so don't be so hard on yourself ok
so so so so sorry
PS don't say murdered
you did not murder your fish
you did nothing of the sort
you taught us all a valuable lesson
let it be a reminder to us all

thank you dear :@)
i am sorry for your fishy losses
i really laughed at the the thought bubble over Reno's' head
how dare you accuse me of killing the fish
I had 3 girls together in a 100 litre and unfortunately one of them was over-aggressive, we didn’t lose any but they were so torn up! One got rehomed, the other into her own tank and one remained in the 100- they are all happy and our black betta turned out to have blue on her once she was happy!
I'd recommend putting your fish in an ice cream bucket or a normal 5 gallon bucket with water obviously and put a cup of your tank water in every 15 minutes it gets them acclimated to your water ( don't dump the water from the bucket in your tank ) tank a net and put them in your aquarium.
I love my betta sorority, but I will not be doing it again nor will I ever recommend it. When things are going well, I had a BEAUTIFUL sorority full of lovely koi girls in a 55 gallon community. I named them all and even knew the pecking order. But one single female got sick. Well, it’s been MONTHS and I keep losing one after the other regardless of treatment, salt baths, and consistent water changes.
If you have a large community of the same species, especially a fish that isn’t afraid to pick fights with one another (it’s a planted aquarium with lots of hiding spots, but bettas will be bettas and nip at each other from time to time), the risk of that one betta infecting the others is nearly guaranteed. Same species spread diseases amongst one another like wild fire.
As I write this, my favorite betta female Delevigne (orange and navy blue koi princess) is in a separate container being put down. I have been treating her for weeks to no avail.
I think if I were to sum up betta sororities, I’d say this about them. They are beautifully HEARTBREAKING.
Thank you for sharing this with us even though it had to be hard.
Thank you for this Lisa. I know a ton of people will learn a ton from this.
Thanks for sharing this with us! It just shows how much you care, and want to educate other fish keepers.
Quarantine is such a hard lesson learned from anyone in the hobby.. I lost my entire 55g of 5 year old Fish by adding new tank mates WITHOUT quarantine.. big mistake! Disease broke out & even tho i tried treatment, water changes, ect. I lost them all except one.. I will never do that again.. sorry for your loss.. thanks for sharing!
Keeping it real...I appreciate that, thank you, Lisa💕👍
Thanks for sharing Lisa - so sorry for your losses. You’re a great fishmama!
Just set up planted tank broke down smaller tank and moved most of substrate over and filter only had one fish in that tank a Otto catfish checking water perimeters adding more plants and learning about plants I have and how to take care of them. Finally added fish didn’t quarantine them my quarantine tank is nursery tank for yellow labs I bought all fish at same time and now I have ick and all fish are dying doing everything correctly heat, vac and meds fish still dying and plants melting I know what you’re going though
I had a long 40 Gal. tank that was divided into 8 sections for male bettas and had the 8th spot open.
When I did find the right fish I did quarantine but only for 3 weeks... One week later the new fish got sick and died. Followed by all the others one after the other. The mess up thing was my 3 zebra snails were just fine, moved them into a 3Gal. tank. About a year after the 8 fish died it seemed odd to have these snails in their own tank when they were in perfect health so I put them in my platy tank... All the fish F-ing died!
So that is the story of how 3 snails ended up living by themselves in a 10Gal. tank for over a year!
I never did figure out what it was that killed the fish but it seems like the snails could carry it but was harmless to them.
I think you'd only be guilty of manslaughter (fishslaughter?). You're not a murderer though. Mistakes happen.
I want to ask you guys a question and it's not about the subject of this video.. It's been a few years since I last kept fish.. For many years I used an under gravel filter with all the tube holes capped except one.. I used a power head on the 1 tube.. When I did a water change and used a vacuum, I only pushed the tube about a half an inch down into the gravel.. So, the entire gravel bed was a biological filter.. I have never heard about anyone else doing this and just wanted your opinions about it..
I was told by somebody that you should never buy fish from Petco or Petsmart because all their tanks are connected in someway. So if one fish in one tank is sick it can spread to all of the fish in the entire store. Don’t know if that’s true but I have never bought a fish from chain stores. There is one locally owned pet store here in town and their tanks are not connected. Always had good results. And I have never quarantine the fish.
I made that mistake when I bought female bettas from petco, one of them had parasitic worms and I was to busy at work to notice until 3/5 were gone 😢
Sorry for the loss Lisa 😔
Wow your video brought back sad memories for me..I had 12 beautiful discus,..I’d had since young..Then I go and buy #13..(unlucky for me)..I didn’t quarantine it..and you guessed it..I lost all my Discus one by one..A harsh learnt😢
Wish I had seen this earlier, Cory cats just killed my sorority too :( I will always isolate before adding from now on
Queen Court I’m sorry for your loss 😞
@@loreall.2461 what happened now
I have been lucky over the years. Only hard to get discus tank going but I put to many in when I went crazy buying at the store
I actually got my three albino Corey cats and Berra from the same tank at a pet store today so glad this popped up
Thank you for sharing. We all make BooBoos.
I made a big one I think. I put my betta in a new tank. The water I had in the tank was to hot. Any ideas for what I can do?
