I had a sorority for a couple years. As the fish passed, I did not replace them because I decided to use the tank for something else... But I really missed having one, so we are now setting up a 75 gallon corner for an even bigger one, and I have about 20 girls coming! My sorority had all different types, sizes, and colors of girls. The rare newcomer who wanted to fight would get a little beat up, hide for anywhere up to two weeks, and then just join everyone else like nothing had happened. But I had a pair of giant females who were always by each other's side. They even slept in the same catappa leaf roll. (I soak the big ones for a day, roll them up, secure with a rubber band, and link that through a heater clip near the surface for little betta sleeping bags.) One eventually got a HUGE tumor. It was so bad... At first, I thought she may actually be eggbound, but too much time passed. At that time, we were painting the house and had moved the girls into individual containers to move their tank to another room, too. I decided if she ever became lethargic or refused food, I'd put her down, but she was happy and gobbling food one day; gone the next. After losing her friend, the other giant tried to condition another female to be friends, but it was never quite the same as that original friendship. Anyway, I've heard of sorority situations that got out of control, but mine was successful. It was a community with several species and lots of floaters.
They look beautiful! Will they get any bigger? Taylor mentioned in a video to give a sick betta algae wafers. I rescued a betta from my 22 year old daughter's very cold bedroom 3 months ago. I've revived him Twice in 3 months. He loves his 5 gallon tank with a bubble filter and a heater set at 80 degrees. And since he came out of his last "coma', he's loving a small piece of algae wafer every day. Plus, A Girl Talks Fish talked about using aquarium salt. It was Level 3 that turned things around for this very resilient betta!
Lisa, I just simply love you so much, you are Lohn are the best and I can't wait for more videos from both of you guy's, so come on and start with the new videos now. I'll be watching and waiting 😉😃
Wow - how awesome is this! I love my bettas and am totally obsessed with them- they are just the most beautiful! I can’t wait to order my next bettas from you- cause I know they will be beautiful and healthy! Best news I have heard today!
What a great idea to do sisters! They're beautiful. How about a live cam of their tank on your site? On second thought, that might encourage others with no experience and no idea how you're doing it.
I have a planted 29gallon with four female bettas. Two sets of Two sisters. Each from separate spawns. I’m going to add two more more sisters from different spawn. I love this tank so much and it’s very interactive. As of now they are all very friendly. They are housed with 14 galaxy rasboras, 5 marble Cory cats, 2 Kuhli loaches and 1 bushy nose pleco.
Please refrain from adding too many, it'll cause them to be next to eachother constantly which could stress them out 😖 if you have backup tanks for them you can try it, I just don't recommend if you already have 4 😭
I recently got my betta sorority started and I love them sooo much! I completely relate to your happiness! I watched Taylor’s video about how yall were doing this and have been waiting!!
I really enjoy your guys channel. I had an oranda goldfish for a while and he recently passed. I was beyond devastated he was so cute! And what a personality. I never thought I could be sooo close to a fish. I love your guys logic and knowledge of fish. I just got my first Betta ! Her name is lavender 🐟
I can’t wait for you to start selling fish! With you mentioning House of Tropical, it’s sounds like you’re not far from me. I love that store. Hopefully I can get a sorority from you guys🤞
I have a large sorority of 50+ females, all sisters. They do well together, particularly I have noticed that with large numbers of females you have less problems as there's so much distraction in the tank, so no one fish gets picked on
I have a new sorority- 127 L with 19 females and heavily planted too. I’m just hoping the break in period won’t last long- 14 girls are from a breeder so all fish have been in a tank with others since fry( 9 are sisters) I have another set of 5 (mother and daughters) from another breeder. Fingers crossed it works out 😊
First of all, this was exciting because it was about bettas. What makes it even better is where you got the bettas from and they are sisters!! My original girls that I started with were all sisters and they did wonderfully! When people ask me about sororities they ask me how I had success, one of the things I recommend is if they can do it, try to get them all as young sisters! Taylor has some of the most beautiful fish and what an honor to set up this beautiful tank with her beautiful babies in it.😍💞 And they couldn't have gone to anybody any "betta".. I'm so excited for you!! Oh, I would be so excited to have 21 fish at the same time... Especially these girls they are gorgeous 😁🤗🤸🤸🤸💞 this was a really cool video and I appreciate you sharing it with me.. it makes me want to set up another tank and tell her to save another round for me someday. Your plants look amazing... the whole tank is lovely 👍 I hope you all have a wonderful week I really enjoyed the video! Thank you for sharing this with us 😍🐟🌿🐟🌿💚
That sure is a bunch of them. You think maybe some should go into other tanks? I'm curious to see how this unfolds. I have learned so much from you and your husband and if anyone can keep 21 betta females together, it's you. ♥️
We do sorority also. I think the major TRICK is to have a 4' tank. 75 gallons. I don't think I would try it in any smaller tank. We started in a 20 but within weeks moved them into a 75. They need place to swim and a place to call their own. 25-30 in a 4' tank seems to be the correct population. A few small feedings per day, frozen and flakes and bi weekly water changes. Our tank has lots of tall silk plants and structures. No live plants. Some caves as well. All in a bare bottom tank. Gotten away from substrate years ago and don't miss it at all. Betta females are a very simple yet very interesting fish to keep. It is wonderful to just watch them constantly explore their tank. We have kept fish now for over 50 years, fresh and saltwater, and these girls are my favorite of them all. Not nearly as much work as our Discus tank!
Sophia Falc716 I’m taking my time, doing my research, and having a back up plan. For one I’m setting up a couple tanks at once. I’ll be working with my fish store and either taking from their sorority or working out a plan if the girls don’t get along. I’m not rushing this at all. I want a successful, peaceful tank
I set up one! I did however put each beta from different stores in there on vase from dollar tree! This way they were quarantined too! I sat them all on a table side by side and moved them around to see each other for 3 weeks. I put them together and have had zero problems! It’s been 2 months! They do have plenty of room but they seem to hang out together!
A very nice aquarium. 😁👌 Not a single plastic plant in sight. And you’re absolutely right, no bloody need for a quantine at all. But, seriously. It’s female’s - not girls. You said it yourself in the video.
Wonderful 🤣 So I finally decided I want a female Betta with few schooling fish into my 112L community tank and now I saw this 🤦🏼♀️ Now I have the problem where to I get 3-5 sisters 😂
Fantastic video and my favorite subject. Well, maybe, except for ponds, lol. I'm so excited to keep up with these girls and I'm glad you gave advice on how many to keep depending on tank size. I'm currently working on a 20 gallon betta sorority and will keep 5. I have 2 already in separate tanks. Anxious to start this new adventure. xoxTX
Anyone know why the colour of the water in the transport bags is blue? Is it an anti stress tonic or something? I've seen it before and always wondered...
Good day, my own observation about betta fish water condition was not to weekly water change, if I do so, they get sick (water shocked) and die after a few days . My male betta in a cup, I only change 5%-10% once a week. I just removed their waste everyday or every other day (if there's any) and return back the excess water. My male betta in a 1 gal tank, I do water change (20-25%) once a month or every two months... and still doing fine...
I thought she was going to have a couple of more bettas like bubbles in this school of sisters. I really love the tidal 35 pump it’s soooo quite and it’s circulating more water than the bio wheel penguin 100. A WHOOPING 135 GALLONS PER HOUR!!!! My Harlequin Rasboras love the power this pump has behind it.
I was thinking of putting three battaettes in fifteen gallon. Think there would still be room for some small corys? Maybe four? I was thinking pandas. House of tropicals is great. What a selection. Thanks for the videos.
I've been breeding and selling sister 5 packs on ebay for quite some time now. I ship 5 per bag and have had great success with it. I raise all my babies together (spawning 5=10 pairs at a time, and sell off sisters only. I never mix grown adults from random places. Great video, I personally don't believe such a low number with high gallons is needed as I have no issues with 10+ in a 20g, but seems these days the fish whisperers are nutty with high gallons and understocked tanks.
I love betta fish too! And have 5 boys all of them are housed separately. I did not quarantine them for 2weeks since the beginning and so far everyone is doing good.
I have a 55 gal tank with a 30 beta sorority in it. It is similar in feel and care to my African chicken tank. Seems like the more you have the less aggression. The all went in at the same time and have a fairly open tank arrangement like the africans. It is a very pretty tank.
Hey guys, Lisa I watched her video where she mentioned your plan and I was so hoping that you were going to do a follow up. Thank you and yes they look great.
I picked up two females from my local shop but unfortunately they did not get along. Surprisingly the small one was picking on the larger one. So now they are in their own five gallon tanks and doing well.
I had a heavily planted lo-tech 29G with betta sorority a few years ago. Loved it! One of the six had her own little spot she claimed, the others never did.
I have a beautiful female shes so purple and blue and big she as pretty as any male betta I have seen. She is in a tank filled with shrimp, tetras, a glass fish (kinda a creepy fish my son picked it out) and guppies. I tried cutting back her food from 3 times a day to 2 times a day and I found her swimming around with a shrimp in her mouth. Little stinker. So I feed small amounts 3 times a day but aside from that she isn’t bothered by the other fish. She loves swimming up the filter current and than letting her take her on a ride. It started with the guppies and she joined in. The current is only on one side of the tank so she has a peaceful place as well.
I'm new to the hobby and I am planning on getting a 75 gallon tank. I've heard you're only supposed to add a handful of fish at a time to avoid ammonia spikes. How were you able to add 21 all at once?
They probably used filter media/substrate/decorations from orher tanks, so that the bacteria are already enstablished and there will be no ammonia spike, since the bacteria population is already balanced for an higher amount of fish. Plus bettas are quite hardy, if there is enough water per fish ratio, you can even cycle the tank with the fish already in.
It depends on how you cycle the tank. In their case, they have enough tanks that they can simply pull filter media from one (or more) tanks that are already established, and the new tank is immediately ready to go. This is how people with multiple tanks usually do it. It's not uncommon for fish people to have excess filtration on one or more tanks specifically to be held in reserve for a new tank, keeping that filter media ready to go for when it's needed. Now, if you're starting from scratch, cultivating that bacteria population in the tank/filtration before adding livestock is a matter of how much food you're supplying that bacteria with. You can initially cycle a tank to accept a large amount of fish, you just keep increasing the ammonia amount in the tank to accommodate a larger bioload. What usually happens is only enough ammonia is provided to support a small colony of bacteria, leading to the tank only being able to support a small amount of waste once fish are introduced. Then you do have to take it slow when it comes time to stock. But, while you CAN cycle a tank to handle a larger bioload, it still isn't recommended (especially for someone new to the hobby), because if something does happen to go wrong in it, it's much easier to deal with a few fish instead of a fully stocked tank of fish. Another thing is, in the case of this tank, 75 gallons is a lot of dilution for the amount of waste these fish will produce. They're all small fish, which all have small bioloads, so this tank will have an easy time of handling it. More water+small amount of waste produced=easy time.

I have trouble naming my new single betta...I can only imagine how much time you will lose naming all of them
They look beautiful!
Beautiful tank! beautiful fish! Can’t wait to see how they mature with your gorgeous tank
Thanks Shishi 🥰
The Tank looks amazing The Bettas are Beautiful. Great news your going to be breeding Bettas can't wait for them to be on the website
This is the best!! You and Taylor are the betta whisperers 💙
Love the little white one! Such variety even with them all being sisters. You guys rock!
It’s fun to see you so excited! I’m happy for you!!
The look on your face and the excitement are priceless!! Love love love it 😍😍
I really enjoy your guys channel.
They do well together, particularly I have noticed that with large numbers of females you have less problems as there's so much distraction in the tank, so no one fish gets picked on
I would like to see a video or pictures of your tank sounds amazing
This sounds amazing, is your sorority still going?
What size tank? 😊
@@leafguy9938 it’s actually about 150, and heavily planted
I have a new sorority- 127 L with 19 females and heavily planted too. I’m just hoping the break in period won’t last long- 14 girls are from a breeder so all fish have been in a tank with others since fry( 9 are sisters)
I have another set of 5 (mother and daughters) from another breeder.
Thank you for sharing this with us 😍🐟🌿🐟🌿💚
Aawww...thank you Mary! They really are gorgeous girls 🥰
The sisterhood of Bettas
Pretty bettas. I like your hodge podge looking substrate. That tank is awsome. Who quarrantines the first fish in the tank? That’s crazy. 😂
I’m planning a 20 gallon sorority. This is so exciting!!!!
Please don't unless you're experienced or have multiple tanks to put them in in case it crashes, you're putting their little lives at risk :(
Sophia Falc716 I’m taking my time, doing my research, and having a back up plan. For one I’m setting up a couple tanks at once. I’ll be working with my fish store and either taking from their sorority or working out a plan if the girls don’t get along. I’m not rushing this at all. I want a successful, peaceful tank
@@SassyHippo okay, good, since 20 for bettas could be troublesome oof, glad to hear you have plans!
You are cute same as bettas, you 2 doing great... Best channel ever for who love for aquarium hobby
I only started keeping fish In June and got my first beta two months ago ❤️he is called frank and I adore him , he likes being hand fed bloodworms ❤️
One of my Favorite videos to date from Y'all tysvm for sharing your Beautiful new Bettas!!😊
So happy I found this channel . Learning to care for my new Betta
I love how they're all the same color, they're perfect!
A very nice aquarium. 😁👌 Not a single plastic plant in sight. And you’re absolutely right, no bloody need for a quantine at all.
But, seriously. It’s female’s - not girls. You said it yourself in the video.
I always love Lisa videos!! I was never interested in Bettas but Lisa always does a good job of making me want one or ten 😅
Wonderful 🤣 So I finally decided I want a female Betta with few schooling fish into my 112L community tank and now I saw this 🤦🏼♀️
Now I have the problem where to I get 3-5 sisters 😂
Y’all are really about this fish keeping life so much water and beautiful tanks to look at !
I have two female bettas , I love them , they have so much personalities . I’m maybe the only one who prefer female bettas than male bettas .
Lovely. How many female bettas would you put in a 50gal I've done 6 before but wondered how many you could do in thier without problems.
They’re so cute!! Can’t wait to set up a betta sorority!
Totally not fish matter - I just looooove how you two comunicate with each other. So much warmth and love is all around 💞
I was thinking of putting three battaettes in fifteen gallon. Think there would still be room for some small corys? Maybe four? I was thinking pandas. House of tropicals is great. What a selection. Thanks for the videos.
wow Lisa u are looking great!
Beautiful set up!!
Thank you 😊
I've been breeding and selling sister 5 packs on ebay for quite some time now.
Do you still sell them on ebay?
How many bettas do you recommend in a 37 gallon
I love this and alllllllllllllllllllll of this wonderful information. Your energy is wonderful... it is contagious!
I love betta fish too! And have 5 boys all of them are housed separately. I did not quarantine them for 2weeks since the beginning and so far everyone is doing good.
Your such an inspiration for my betta Sorority! I currently have 7 in a 35gal and I'm in love 😍.
Not many hiding spots in the tank, with a lot of fish I think that is needed
Yeah I wish they would have microswords or crypt prava.
I've added several more plants and hiding spots the last few days. 🥰
@@rootsnwhiskers8351 good luck, I hope the tank is very good at making little ones
Looks so good, Lisa!! Good luck! ❤️🥰
Beautiful bettas!! You inspired my sorority!
1:42 "Honey are you excited about the Bettas?"
"I am positively s***ing myself mate yeah."
I picked up two females from my local shop but unfortunately they did not get along. Surprisingly the small one was picking on the larger one. So now they are in their own five gallon tanks and doing well.
This will be so awesome! I was wondering how a tank with sister bettas would work the other day!
Very nice fish & a great idea. Thanks for sharing that. 👍😊
the sorority is awesome !
plus the purple shirt with the EKG line is also awesome .
Thank you 😊
God has got to be the coolest thing I've ever seen:)
Maybe one day in the future I can have my own fish room
I'm getting a betta soon after the water in the tank get's tested
remember to cycle your tank :D
I was about to say something about the knife...lol...and u nailed it...hahaha
