Hey, Brendon from Gym Geek here! Thanks for mentioning our calorie calculator, I really appreciate you found it useful! You're right to call out the limitation of 500 deficit = 1 pound of fat loss. We recommend to most people to use it as a starting point, but to adjust after 3-4 weeks based on their progress. Really great video and tips 🙌

Any calorie restriction eating any food will lead to weight loss, that's the first law of thermodynamics. The trouble is that most people will eventually get caught up by hunger if they calorie restrict, and you can't white-knuckle forever. On top of that, your metabolism will slow down as the body will adapt to lowered energy intake. You'll be cold, tired and slowly develop diet fatigue. So unless you also address hunger and drop in resting energy, you'll most likely fail long term. Statistically, over 90% of people will regain the weight they lost within three years, and some even put on some more. For long term success, you basically have to create a new self by turning your diet into a sustainable lifestyle because who wants to keep counting their calories for the rest of their life? I managed to lose 50 pounds in 10 weeks and have been able to keep it off for 9 months so far, and I wasn't even obese at the beginning, and I am a 44-year-old male with a sedentary job with a limited ability to work out. I have never used any calorie counting apps. I see calorie counting as extremely useful only for short-term educational purposes to get an idea not only how many calories three are in any food, but also to understand macros. In my case, the key to conquering hunger while calorie restricting was a combination of keto and intermittent fasting. Also, adding a ton of meat fixed my resting energy.

A little thing that helped me was to look at my overall loss instead of a pound here and there or loss per week. We lose sight of our previous achievements so easily! ❤ great advice Louise, as always!

I am attending a weight loss clinic through a hospital, and they told me to count carbs, protein, and fiber not calories. I have to drink 64 oz of water per day. My protein needs to be 90 G and my carbs need to be 60 G and it's only for 12 weeks so yes 3 months as she stated here. They also have me taking two spoonfuls of psyllium husk for fiber. They did not do my tde at all.

There are many paths that can lead to weight-loss. If this way works for you, keep going. If you find you stall or get stuck, you may then look at working out your TDEE.😊 Wishing you success on your journey!

Do what Louise has recommended, she is 100% right. I was doing keto and hardcore fasting and then my weight plateaued for 2 months. I turned to calorie counting, using My Futness Pal, after working out my TDEE, and aim for 1g protein per lb ideal body weight - and within my calorie budget that works out about 40% protein, 30% carbs (of which most is fibre filled vegetables) 30% fat. Within 1 week my plateau became unstuck and using this calorie counting method as lousie explains, I have gone on to lose another 8kg. I have 2kg more to go before reaching goal weight. Good luck with your journey

Excellent video, Louise! When I occasionally go out for dinner, I let my hair down and eat what I like, then the next day I fast. It seems to work really well & this trade off has meant that my weight loss has continued without issue. I’ve found what works for me, calorie counting and occasional intermittent fasting. Thanks for all your advice. X

Thanks for Sharing as always. I’ve had someone try to sell me some weight loss transform stuff on Facebook for £100. It’s cheap apparently as was £134 normally but it was a Black Friday deal. I said I was ok but was told I’m losing out on an amazing offer. I think these people think we’re stupid xx
