I have two 7.3 power strokes and both had this same issue until…… I hydro chipped it. Now my shift points are clean and smooth as silk. From what I’ve researched and find is that ford from the factory has it tuned down to a point where it will damage the vehicle. I haven’t had an issue since I installed the hydra tune, it’s been about 3k since installed.
My truck just got does same did same thing so much I put more transmission fluid in and it got better then I pull over when it jumps gears like that and it fixes so weird mine never want to go into last gear
My 7.3 does the same thing, but I dont lose the gear, but the the rpms going up and down like it did in the beginning is what mind does, it shifts a little rough in third overdrive, and if i sit in first gear sometimes the transmission will put a load on the motor until it kills it or till i put it in neutral, it happens bery very randomly, it does great until it doesn't. Any ideas??

Neutral safety switch on the side of the transmission. On mine I had to push down on the shifter in order for it to shift right.
