- Summer is coming and it's time to keep that little 4R100 cool. I swap an Amazon (Dorman) 6.0 Transmission Cooler into my 2000 Ford Excursion 7.3 4x4.

This was one of the best vids out there on this mod. Subbed and Thanks!!
I just got the Mishimoto 23x7 cooler. I was going to do the 6.0 upgrade but didn’t feel like it at this point. 96 7.3. It seems good so far. I pull 4-14k daily
I got the mishimoto as well and noticed a MAJOR cooling difference. Also helped to change my inline filter that's been backwards since I got the truck 😂😂
I put the mishimoto in my 03 7 3 excursion pulling a boat though south Florida in July highest trans temp I reached was 155
Online from Amazon? Which one?
Also Goin with the mishismoto
I went the cheaper route with a Dorman cooler, but I do love me some Mishimoto parts. I have their intercooler on my LML Duramax.
@@CotterPinGarage I was thinking of that but I love how the mishismoto lines are one line from 3/4 to 5/8 so thats less fittings.
Why will nobody show how to remove the lower factory plow bracket mount, or crash bar that is held in place by 3 bolts with round flat heads??? Mine just turn in place. Vice grips are kinda working to hold heads while I use an impact.
I took my crash bar off when I got the truck, i didn’t have any issues with the bolts turning though. Maybe grind the smooth side flat with a flap disc if you can get access and punch them out.
I just went out and got the power of fire, lol. Torches will take anything off. I put mine back on with actual bolts now. I noticed a steering and sway difference without it. Thanks for the reply.
@@JDM850 that was my next suggestion, glad you got it.
There are rubber isolators that are missing in the bottom holes that’s why the factory bolts didn’t work
That makes much more sense, I figured there may be variances in the core support from my 7.3 to the 6.0s
@@CotterPinGarage yeah I’ve never understood why dorman won’t sell them in the cooler. Even if you’re working on a 6.oh the isolators are dry rotted if you need to replace the cooler.
Great video though!!
The people new to these rigs will like to see it.
Also do you have a trans temp gauge other than the stock one ?
If so add before and after temps I’m in Minnesota and plan to travel some day and I’m curious how big a difference there is in daily driving at the higher ambient temps
I have a glow shift 3 in 1 a pillar gauge with EGT, Boost and Transmission temp. It was running 190 at 83 degrees ambient temp the other day which is what prompted the cooler swap.
@@CotterPinGarage Thank you CPG bundle kit makes it easy..
What temps are you seeing during towing now?
I plan in doing this upgrade... I have a 4r100.. there's a vented Derale pan that increases fluid cooling as well..
@@camposvazquez it hasn’t been too hot lately but I’m seeing 140-150 under normal driving conditions.
Gotta get me a 7.3 excursion
Prices are going up better snag one soon!
Yes get you one, they are awesome, I will never sell mine
Aren’t those clamps you used the same thing as pex clamps, like what you’d use on the plumbing in your house? If so I’m set 😂 good video 👍
They sure do look the same, if it’s good enough for water it’s good enough for oil right 😂
All of my German cars use them.
How much fluid did you have to add after the swap?
I think I added an additional quart or 2, and dropped temps 30-40 degrees. Stock pan, stock trans as far as I know with 200k miles.
That’s a hairpin not cotter pin
