When I talk about positioning the unhooked transmission into NEUTRAL, I say to align the tic marks on the DTR. The tic marks are very faint, so they may be difficult to see. I should have suggested doing it this way in the video instead... Rotate the shift arm clockwise toward the rear of the trans until it stops moving. This position is PARK. Then rotate back toward the front of the transmission TWO CLICKs, this is NEUTRAL. And of course, make sure your parking brake is on and wheels chocked!

I believe i had my trans. cable bushing clip fall off of my 4r100 transmission (under truck actual manual lever) 6 years ago and i just put it back on while it was in park (not in neutral like you said). Is this why ive never been able to get my dash gear indicator perfect ever since ?

It's possible. I would start by replacing the plastic lock, and then resetting it. It may work fine locking it while in Park, but the benefit of doing it while in Neutral is that you split the margin for error in either direction. The Park detent can be rather loose and sloppy, and by setting it in Park, you push all your margin for error towards Manual 1, which might put it out of whack. I would also check the hairline cable that drives the orange indicator and make sure it is in good order and looped/routed correctly.
