Yeah the issue was the pump. What happens is when you redid the motor (I'm assuming you had the trans off of the motor) when you put it all back together the converter wasn't seated properly into the transmission. When you bolted the trans back up the converter got stuck between the motor and trans and when you tightened the bellhousing bolts up it screwed the engagement ears up in the pump. We are all good to do that at least once haha.
Add an extra ground from your frame to your transmission bell. Ford's are notorious for poor grounds. What happens when there is a ground issue. The ground circuit will seek other ways to complete its circuit back to the battery. This path will be the one with the least resistance. Some how the ground will find traveling through the transmission to be its easy out, and will end up etching with the help of the high pressure fluid, the pumps plate & gear set. Similar to Electrolysis. Not saying this is your issue, atleast it is just one more DYI fail safe tactic to prolong the lives of our 1st. Generation Super Duty's
Don't know much about transmissions. If I were doing a swap though, I'd put a manual in. I've always had better luck with manuals rather than autos. Hope to see it working soon.
Filters is plugged or front planet splined out. Either way that's what Ford's are good for and that's " to keep us mechanics tools from rusting".....
that is what my buddys 2000 f250 did on 38" tires 10" lift his left him stranded turns out his torque converter went bad and all his clutches were toast its getting rebuilt right now so far its been about $3020 with beefed up parts hopefully get the truck back tomorrow but his did the same thing and the fluid looked fine and had no burn smell it was a shock
I had this issue on my ole 95. When it was cold it would lug the motor, & killed it a few times. Sometimes it’s low fluid. I put some in it, & it hardly did it at all after that.
If it stalls going into reverse it's usually low transmission fluid. Mine quit going going in all gears....if you really romp it, it will slightly lunge forward or backwards in reverse...I'm changing torque converter...just start throwing money and upgrades at it...lol
As a fleet mechanic for a long time. I've had them all. I'm looking to get rid of my Ford and go back to my Dodge. At least a Dodge survived a cow. I don't think my Ford could survive itself. It's a real great truck if you don't mind spending a lot of money fixing it. It's never had a hard day of its life. But it still is unreliable POS.
I did the complete opposite, after all of the issues with my 2014 Dodge 2500 4x4, I literally traded it (I got some cash too) for a 1999 F350 7.3 Powerstroke 4x4 SuperCab....the Ford is a better truck in every way possible except for interior amenities....
I know no it's not the pumps or the filter because I just change the front pump and Filter on my truck and it still does the same but now it just takes to shift when It gets up to about 5 then it will shift to the next Gear
I have a problem with my 2000 F250 7.3 liter diesel 4x4 truck. Driving on the freeway one day after dirtbike riding, my transfercase explodes into a few pieces! Im thinking put another T-case in there and problem solved! RIght? Wrong! I removed the front driveshaft at the scene of the accident site and the truck will not go fast in drive, about 5 MPH and 20 MPH in secong gear................. Did I lose the overdrive in the transmission??? Need help before I fork out $3000 for a transmission rebuilt !!!
I bet the transmission is done. Just have to replace it. If you want the best transmission then put in the AOD Transmission. Its the biggest, strongest, and best Ford has to offer.
As far as I know Ford's reverse works on a band..if you only loose forward gears it's the pump, if you loose reverse only it's the band studs broke.. no greats torque converter clutches
ok, my truck is doing the same thing randomly. somtime it does this and sometimes it does not. reverse is fine tho and had no prolem. did you ever find the problem !? im at a loss right now and would like to fix it on this 3 day weekend. my truck does the same thing when you put it in drive. usually it works in 1st gear and i manually shift it through the gears. but the other day that didnt even work. any help is appreciated! thanks
Justin Sisson I have a 2000 7.3 PowerStroke doing the exact same thing. I was wondering if you could tell me what was wrong lol. I'm thinking the torque converter because the transmission isn't throwing any codes.
the 1997 transmission wont work and it doesnt sound like the torque converter to me possibly the front pump like you mentioned but i dont know much about automatics
@ScaleCarModels yea i know and fords best diesel engine ever was the 7.3 powerstroke and at the time it was the best engine to get for a ford truck and i believe the AOD is better than the transmissions that they have now
I have 2006, f350 6.0 and this morning when I pulled off after it changed out, it quit pulling, just all at once, do any one know what maybe the problem? Im stuck out of town.
@DragonKnightBoy Might be true if it was modified might have beefed up the internals. I know there is a newer e4od or something like that its a bit tougher I think. Also a 460 at stock doesn't make nearly the torque of the 7.3L. Also the mounting flange is far larger then a typical 5.4L, 351, or 460 type or engine.
hey, first i want to say i appreciate your videos so thanks, also , i know how to turn a wrench and replaced the transmission with a rebuilt one, but for reason i am having a hard time starting it, am sure i have my linkage right and the nuetral safety switch is good, it barely wants to start in neutral and wont even turn in the park position, any suggestions on what to check? thought maybe something similar happened to you.
The shifter linkage may be out of position. Look under the dash and move the shifter , the bolts may be loose . From the factory they didn't loctite the bolts and they had the problem of them falling out. Let me know if this is or not the problem.

Could have stuff the converter either came out of trans or you didn't line up studs on converter. LIKE A NEANDERTHAL

Check your wiring harness for the trans they usually crap out and replacements can be bought. Usual e4od and 4r100 problems.

Whiskey Tango how did that work for you?
Sounds like a lock-up valve issue in the pump or something related to the torque converter lock-up issue.
@@davidlesley8884 it was torque converter. Replaced with a triple disk
can you please tell me what was the issue?

Wondering if you found out your problem man. My truck just pulled the same thing. What did you do?
What was the problem?
Guess mine has the same thing
Torque converter
Simple replacement
replaced front pump and torque conver i have a video of that too
Where?

it's a low fluid safety. when my 97 did it it scared the shit out of me. but that's all it was
@ScaleCarModels Just my 2 cents no mean to start a fight I could be wrong not first time.
@DragonKnightBoy I don't think a stock AOD would handle a 7.3L.
I know this is old but check your wiring harness
@ScaleCarModels I knew a guy that had one with his 460 and it did just fine. At least that's what I seen.

did you end having to rebuild the transmission or was it something more simple? am asking cause am having the same problem

What was it?
Following
Transmission needed a full rebuild...
make sure it aint t case
I'm having the same issue
I'm interested in the yellow import car parked in the background how much?
I am having the same problem with my 2000 f550 did you find out what the problem is ??

I have the same problem with my 7.3 any updates
I think it is a transmission rage selector or / transmission arm. Cause I got a 7.3 ford diesel 2002
Crystal Torres-Kolberg hahaha that's a pretty sweet typo
I think you don't know what your talking about
Check transmission fluids guys maybe it’s the problem !
4r100 has a 20 bolt pan too

Anybody figure out a fix or the problem
Start it on neutral then shift into gear. Torque converter
I just read your comment and tried starting my excursion in neutral and sure as shit it moved. So most likely torque convertor is bad?
@@logan2244 what was yours doing? Having the same issues as mentioned above.
it's the torque converter. my 2005 stall in park rev drive and At stops. 3700$

What was the fix?
Pull codes and check the harness
Also pull codes.
ford circled the problem on the front grill
I never circled the problem I was always tought to circle the answer
well at least they circle the problem ...
check the fluid
Broken planetary
Long story short...E4OD sucks ass...so zf5-6 swap it and be happy again.
