    Hello I talked to Junior two weeks ago he spent some time talking to me he seems very down to earth for a Corvette restorer seems very humble and not trying to sell you a “ 100k dream” I like him to look at my 63 vette and have him tell me what he thinks.

    "Why I restore cars wrong" Ha! I'm certain the level of work you demand is much appreciated by those paying for it. Beautiful '64!
    In 1964 if your salesman said with good care this car will last at least 50 years you would have thought he was crazy. I'd say 16k over another 50 years is a relative bargain.

    So many key points in this video. Explanation is on point. What do you expect? What is work is expected from painter? What level of finish, orange peel or not? The fact that you are still doing some finish work after that cost of paint. Showing that it still needs to be cut and buffed, underhood still needs finishing. All these things that some would think was paid for at that cost. Pointing out all this and what has to be done to achieve the desired finish. Communication is key and everybody being on the same page. Each car is different. From the looks of pics that is a very good job. Especially if the materials were included in that price.

    i have gone to two different Corvette Restoration shops (In PA) to estimate have my 69 repainted with very little body work needed and both came back at 30 to $35,000 minimum. The work they had done looked fantastic. The body work on the 64 looks perfect. Great work! I am assuming the 16K included to strip it. if it did, the 16K sounds great to me!

    most people know how much these cars, and most quality classics cost. and i have no qualms with them being worth it. but why, you see the auctions, you see the shows, these cars are not driven because they cost too much, most are investments. i know you are tired of hearing about the good old days, but we drove our cars, i could put a lacquer paint job on a car that would put some of todays paint jobs to shame, it took lots of time and plenty of very hard labor, but it looked good and good be spotted if you got a scratch, lots of painters in shops with booths in the 60s thru early 90s, could do an extremely good looking enamel baked on paint job, and i was around during the imron era, dangerous and time consuming but beautiful. my point is i would rather see thousands of good looking cars on the street than less in car shows or locked up for investments. just my opinion

      That's why I'm looking for the right '65. There's very little in-between: cars that need lots f work or cars that cost too much to ever use.

    Very few people have their work nitpicked and scrutinized as much as painters, It's very stressful. It's Hard to find a painter who isn't looking for a different career, plus there's way more money in insurance work so very few people who have talent want to paint old cars, The paint was probably about 3000.00, 150 hours at 80.00 , pretty damn reasonable!

    16k for a paint job from stripped to finish is a really good deal! It would be easily 20k to a non dealer. That paint looks incredible. I thought it was cut and polished already. Your painter is a true master.

    Back in 1990 I paid Brads Auto Body in Phoenix AZ $9,000 + my really nice 1977 280Z to paint my 69 Fathom Green Vette Roadster and it looks Beautiful! They not only painted it but redid the Bonding Seams! They no longer had Lacquer so it was a Base Coat Clear Coat Polyurethane but I could not tell the difference, the car was, Stunning With the White Rag Top. P.S. Brads only does ins. jobs now but there are a TON of Custom Body Shops out there, find one with a good reputation!

    I honestly wouldn't know where to begin. I did the bodywork with my father and my uncle (who's a professional) paint my C3. I spent about $3.5k on my paint products. It took my father and I about 5 years to do all of the body work needed to get it right with no filler and all glass repairs. It turned out nice, but it's not perfect. It wasn't ever meant to be a perfect car though. It's for fun and driving.

    You mentioned that you used PPG paint and that this was done in the original color. Was it done in lacquer or was it done with modern paint?
    I have a 66 coupe restoring to factory condition, using PPG (prophet code) laguna blue in an original lacquer application, and thermoflux.
    Lotsa work doing it this way but is worthy for the deepness lacquer delivers, imho. Everything else makes the fiberglass look like plastic.

    Thanks in advance !

    • @HorsepowerWarehouse
      @HorsepowerWarehouse  2 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately not, any abrasive that is aggressive enough to remove paint and primer will also get into the fiberglass and resin. Also, it is difficult to control cutting depth when using blasting as a substrate removal method. While our old school method of stripping is labor intensive, it ensures we don't damage what lies beneath. Thanks for the excellent question and for checking out my content!

  • @williamgreen4757
    @williamgreen4757 2 роки тому

    With fiberglass all bets are off, first complete fiberglass restoration and wetting. Old fiberglass is brittle and constantly drying and outgassing, the only continous is the unbroken glass fibers themselves. All else must be restrored from the that substrate.

      We do have a dedicated painter and machine shop we work with for our corvettes. While we could bring those steps in house, it would not increase quality or reduce cost over our current process so we see no need. Also, my painter and machine guy are the best in the game and prefer having their own facilities. I realize the cost sounds crazy to some but there are just as many others willing to write checks. Fortunately for me, top notch work seems to self perpetuate and I stay busy as a result. Thanks for checking out my channel!
