I really enjoy your videos. Being an old Corvette guy (73 years young!), your information really helps keep me up-to-date on the latest, especially the scams! I only wish you all were here in Texas because I really want to give my business to a true Corvette specialist, not one that calls themselves a "specialist".
Great video I checked on a Honda motorcycle last year sob story how her husband died she was moving wanted to be paid in gift cards I reported her. Thanks for the video
Great Detective work Lyle! In my 30 plus law enforcement career, and assigned as an Auto Theft Detective, I concur with your investigative talents. Of course we would go further with VIN verifications and so on, but you really covered the most important and easy to investigate on your own. Good job Detective!!
Thanks Lyle this was great info. My daughter is an investigator for insurance fraud. She told me they even set up banks to show someone when buying a car that they have the funds and they can see the transfer of those funds... bottom line is they leave with the car saying it should take a few hours to see in his account.... which never happens.
Outstanding video Lyle. I met you in Sarasota in May while in that area. You showed me around your shop and were great to talk too. Thanks for what you do for we Corvette owners. Gary from NC
The scams are everywhere, my wife makes items in our house and sales them online. One day we found one of her items listed on another site. They had literally just taken a jpeg of one of her items and listed it for sale one their site
You are spot on!! I agree with your point about desirable vehicles..... Corvette, sports cars, Harleys, etc....these scammers must think everyone is completely gullible 😂
Classic car sales target Boomers. These people are old and do fall for these scams because they believe they can hunt out deals. I cannot fathom why anyone would spend money on a car they can't sit in first, and that includes BaT.
Not just cars - seeing a lot of parts scams - lots of pictures and tempting prices - bit me once for small amount but still makes me mad to think about - if we all work at shining bright lights on these scam artists- maybe we can make some headway - solid advice as always Lyle
Thx. And, yup, if it's too good to be true it is - I'm looking right now for a C4 - when speaking to 'them' I indicate I will fly in on the next flight to do business - it's amazing how many of them just hang up or try the 'we'll ship it to you' - Don't think so ... Vettes Rule!😉😎
Good info for the folks Lyle, I fear these scams will get more and more polished and attractive as A I progresses, it's scary just how good that is getting.
Lyle, I live just south of Sarasota. Good to see a Florida guy on a podcast. I'm happy with my Lexus GS350 F Sport now but a Corvette may be in my future if I can find the right 75 y.o. who can't get in and out of it anymore. LOL
This is the first video I've watched on your channel - it popped up in my feed, and why not - I'm a car guy! This is great information & advice for those who may be a little less informed, or perhaps too excited about a potential purchase without considering the pitfalls. The delivery in this video was perfect, as well as being short & sweet. I will confirm, everything is a scam these days. I find myself always watching my own back, as well as others around me. The world has changed - you truly have to practice "zero trust" (a concept often used in the computer world) and go from there.
Lyle...How true this video is 😂.... This is Michael Stitt up in Ky. Have owned Corvette's since I was 20. Me and my buddy Steve who is nieve of this very subject 😢 have been on 4 of these wild goose chases.... only to find the complete opposite of what they told him over the phone.... when we arrived.... Anyone wanting a Corvette needs to go to Carlisle and actually talk to people at the car corral at the back of the fair ground. Over the years I have been snuckered too... tis part of the learning process. Once again Lyle Great info 👍 keep it up 🎉😂 ....
Great vIdeo with excellent warning info. It reminded me of an ad I saw several months ago for a '85 C4 with EFI and triple carbs! I guess they were for backup. With all the horrible weather on the east coast lately, you might want to remind viewers about buying flood-damaged vehicles.
Excellent advice! This is exactly how I vet (pardon the pun) these too-good-to-be-true type websites. And this doesn't just go for automobiles, it goes for websites purporting to sell all manner of collectible items, including firearms, militaria, antiques, coins and stamps, etc.
Awsome advice as always! Bought my first Vett (c4) a year ago and went off all the advice from your videos. Beautiful car and I love it thank you for the videos they do help people.
Thx so much for that extremely important info. It's nice to know that there are folks like yourself with integrity & caring about others...Great Video!!
These scams are happening for EVERYTHING! I’ve seen ads for RVs, Camping Trailers, Guitars, Watches, you name it! Always triple check your information!
Great information. Any more today, you have to be part detective to make sure you aren't getting scammed. On the other side of the fence, there are now dealers asking outrageous prices for Corvettes that don't warrant the high price. So much for the days of an honest sale done with a handshake....
I have self inspected just about every used car. I've ever bought and bin very successful. When I bought a corvette I had it professionally inspected if your buying a classic or specialty car no matter what your level of expertise always have it inspected professionally.
I'm glad you give us corvette owners valuable advice I'm from Northern Michigan Corvettes are far and few to be found I've learned a lot of valuable information from you keep up the great work
I️ think you are approaching this wrong. You need to share videos on these folks so we can scam them back. I️ LOVE giving it back to these types of people.
As always a fantastic video by Lyle. Filled with good advice, great content and good humor to keep matters light yet serious. As always we thank you for the effort you put in your shop and this UA-cam channel. Keep up the awesome work 👍🏻
Best to assume all matching numbers cars are fakes, that's why I hate that term. Find the right block within the right date code and stamp the block and viola, matching numbers! So its really a joke. Unless you know the car or its a well known Bloomington or NCRS car, don't pay extra because good chance its a fake and who knows what it really was.
Another great video your someone we can trust and I appreciate that you tell us the truth and you only sell us stuff you believe in. I have asked your opinion on a few things the fact that your so willing to help us is amazing and appreciated. Thank you Lyle
This is great information!!! Never get lazy on the background of the car and the entity that is selling it!! Bought a 1963 split window and a 1967 air coupe in 1999 and still have them... Both similar colors, Silver Blue and Elkhart Blue... Buy and hold, but do your research and only deal with legit ppl!
I know what your saying. I did own a1967 Corvette Fastback for 30 years. I'm aware of the actual value, matching numbers are top price. Nice video for other people to know the real deal.
Great info. I never heard of these scams or ever saw a vette listed way below its value. Who out there doesn't realize a rare car would never be sold at a crazy low price?
Additionally, I keep seeing the listed/advertised price is good for buyers who take same day delivery, finance through the dealer, and pay the additional administration cost (usually $1000). II'm with you, Lyle. Lot's of sharks fishing for suckers. Good video, Thanks. Oh, one more thing. I see the used Vette prices finally coming down.
Great information. It’s funny how people easily fall in love with the photos that’s posted on these web sites instead of focusing on the important tell-tell signs that it’s a big scam.
You are correct, as the decades have rolled by, scammers have multiplied like rats! Fortunately, as a natural cynic, I was prepared for the Internet's bs
Good advice on how to spot scammers. If a deal sounds too good to be true, there's probably a scammer involved. They play on people's greed and (what's a nice word for stupidity?).
There is another big one to talk about. I sold a 1972 about 15 years ago with 90k original miles I was the second owner. I miss it but family happened and it was sold. Well last year it was up for sale with 60k original miles, it was mine, I knew the car and they had it for 15 years it all matched up. I even had the window sticker and it matched the numbers, if this guy was honest I would have given him those items I still had. Anyway mileage is a lie and I see cars ads saying 20k 40k 60k original with worn out interiors and etc, etc. That is a big one in the market place that is in my opinion a scam. I don't even look at mileage anymore when I buy and old car, I look at condition and if its a good value, anyway thanks for listening, good videos.
So many scams out there! Even for normal cars! It is always a similar scam trying to get you to send a deposit. Or worst, send the complete price to them!
My desire to own a Corvette is way down on my bucket list. I just love listening to other greybeard boomers explaining how the world works. My cousin Dickey's music on the Outro is another pleasant Easter Egg!
Lyle, you are the man... now I am trying to decide between a 65, 66, or preferable 67 Coupe with an L79 4 Speed and I am also considering a c5 Z06. Do you have any advice and do you have any Corvettes that for this criteria?
great video....i have been looking for a 63-67 corvette couple and i too have run across these scams.......so to you my friend ......i would even buy a basket case as i am an old body man.....would you have anything or know where i could get one ? thanks....
I have a stack of scammer checks for cars. I lead them on but they never follow thru all the way to pickup the car and 'refund'. Vette story - a fleeing felon in a van wrecked after being shot in the pursuit at 2am, kicked in a near-by garage man-door and there sat my buddy's 69 Stingray, key in slot. The felon rammed the Vette thru the garage door and fled a second time, backtracked until he rolled buddy's Vette on the outskirts of town. Buddy was awoke by police knocking on the door at 3am, not knowing anything had happened.
Great advice. This should be for all cars.BUT….”There’s a sucker born every minute.” Are there companies that build Corvette kits like companies that build the AC Cobra roadsters? 🐍 Is it true during 1969-1970, GM went on strike. I read during that time the VIN was not stamped throughout the chassis. I own a 69 Roadrunner. The VIN is stamped on the radiator core support, fender tag, windshield, door tag, and rear 1/4 gutter.
To the best of my knowledge, that is untrue. While the Corvette never had as many stamping locations as your '69 Roadrunner, it was on the frame in at least one/two places on every car made. Lyle
This just happened to a guy with a 428cj Mustang. Don't know how much he lost but they got him. Same deal. Legit looking site, one car waaaay cheaper than it was worth.
I was "offered" a pickup for cheap. I was going to have to pay them, then go to the warehouse and pay the storage, Then I can "Drive it away" The warehouse is ALWAYS in a different city. The usual reason is the car was owned by ( insert title of close relative to the seller, and it hurts to much to look at it). Yep, sounds totally legit to me, how about you!!
Soooo many scammers out there. I consider myself very internet scam savvy and I still got taken trying to buy a part through a Corvette forum. My fault, moving too quickly and not paying close enough attention, but there it is.
As a corporate security director, I applaud your advice on this. With one exception. I wouldn't recommend clicking on any links. Just to be safe ...
I really enjoy your videos. Being an old Corvette guy (73 years young!), your information really helps keep me up-to-date on the latest, especially the scams! I only wish you all were here in
Texas because I really want to give my business to a true Corvette specialist, not one that calls themselves a "specialist".
Lyle, you are the man for helping these buyers out. Cudos.
Ditto!
Great video I checked on a Honda motorcycle last year sob story how her husband died she was moving wanted to be paid in gift cards I reported her. Thanks for the video
Yep...the Gift card request 100% guarantees a scam. Glad you reported them! Lyle
As always, you bring us Corvette owners very valuable and important information 👍
I appreciate that!
Great information. Thank you! There is no shortage of Internet scams, nor a shortage of people who fall for them.
So true!
Great Detective work Lyle! In my 30 plus law enforcement career, and assigned as an Auto Theft Detective, I concur with your investigative talents. Of course we would go further with VIN verifications and so on, but you really covered the most important and easy to investigate on your own. Good job Detective!!
Then you don't know your a scammer. British sellout

You are spot on!! I agree with your point about desirable vehicles..... Corvette, sports cars, Harleys, etc....these scammers must think everyone is completely gullible 😂
Sadly, they wouldn't run these scams if there were fewer people who fell for them. Lyle
Classic car sales target Boomers. These people are old and do fall for these scams because they believe they can hunt out deals. I cannot fathom why anyone would spend money on a car they can't sit in first, and that includes BaT.
EVERYONE doesn't need to be gullible.........Just ONE!

Or one out of 1,000 who see the ad.
We are gullible. Look at our government 🤨

Good info for the folks Lyle, I fear these scams will get more and more polished and attractive as A I progresses, it's scary just how good that is getting.
It is more worrisome to me how easily people are parted from their money despite numerous red flags waving in their faces. Lyle
Always informative and helpful advice. We all know the old saying...if it's too good to be true, then it doesn't exist.
Lyle, I live just south of Sarasota. Good to see a Florida guy on a podcast. I'm happy with my Lexus GS350 F Sport now but a Corvette may be in my future if I can find the right 75 y.o. who can't get in and out of it anymore. LOL
Seriously! I gotta bring my C7 down and visit you. You've given me so much useful info. I feel like i owe you a visit. 😊
Be very cautious, if someone tries to sell you, their 1983 Corvette.
I'll offer to straight trade for my vintage 1952 Corvette.
Lol
I just bought a 1983 4 door 4 wheel drive.....what?

I think one of the biggest Corvette scams today is the absurd dealer markups on the C8 Z06 and ERay plus Chevrolet letting them get away with it.
Enjoy all your podcasts, thanks.😊
Glad you like them!
Thx so much for that extremely important info. It's nice to know that there are folks like yourself with integrity & caring about others...Great Video!!
Great job Lyle! Your videos are always helpful and great!
You are an AWESOME Guy Lyle and do us all a Great service!
These scams are happening for EVERYTHING! I’ve seen ads for RVs, Camping Trailers, Guitars, Watches, you name it! Always triple check your information!

Yes, sometimes you just want something too much and stop thinking.

😊I bought an advertised 64 Corvette with 5,000 miles in mint condition for $5,000. Received a beautiful matchbox car.
Thanks for the heads up! Good tips!

Great info. channel .Thank you
Good advice.
This is helpful advice for new and old car buyers.
Great Job.
Yep I know a fella who thought he bought a Viper paid for it in full and no car ever existed at the dealer and it was large MFR dealership.
I never cared for Corvettes so Im covered here. Any classic I want, I have only a few people that I know that I deal with.
Thanks!
Scammers are out of control these days!
Love your chanel I'm going turn all my friends and family on to it

Hey Lyle........ You're not paranoid if everyone IS out to get you!
