- This is the 7th installment of a series restoring a 1974 Corvette Stingray. Found in a barn in rural Pennsylvania, this "Shark" generation C3 has found a new home....APEX DETAIL! The third generation Corvette, patterned after the Mako Shark II concept car, was introduced for the 1968 model year and was in production until 1982. C3 coupes featured the first use of T-top removable roof panels. It introduced monikers that were later revived, such as LT-1, ZR-1, Z07 and Collector Edition. In 1978, the Corvette's 25th anniversary was celebrated with a two-tone Silver Anniversary Edition and an Indy Pace Car replica edition of the C3. This was also the first time that a Corvette was used as a Pace Car for the Indianapolis 500

Single Stage is a blast to work with. The results can far exceed what clear coat can provide when it comes to gloss. Have you worked with single stage paints?
very nice nice shine.
As an older dog, I cut my teeth on 60s, 70s and early 80s era single stage paints. Plenty of wet sanding, "rubbing compound," glazes and elbow grease. I don't miss it personally. Everything was single use due to paint transfer. There was no need to explain that you were removing paint when you polished back in those days. LOL
ive corrected eastwood singlestage uretane, had to air compress the pad for residue each panel or so, easy to work with!
OK Brian: I'm 68 years old. Does that answer your question. Oh, factory paint or an enamal re-spray? I've color sanded Centari with great results. Synthetic enemal? lousy results.
Apex Detail Yes, but it’s been over thirty years since I have
Awesome work. Looks amazing. I love the Corvette's from -74 and -75
I love these series of videos of old neglected cars
Thank you for taking the time to make this video and to explain your steps. What amazing results !
Thank you Brian. Going stir crazy lately. This helps. Stay healthy. ☮️
alberto i agree

I saw this video twice, not because I had doubts, it was very satisfying to see !! I love to see you wetsanding !!

Looking good B! I really appreciate the tips and tricks, they really are invaluable and a free education.
So glad this series is back! The original barn find episode was the first I watched from you Brian, man have I learned a lot from you in the past few months! My wife glares at me when she hears your voice and instantly logs into the bank account to see what I bought now!
Hahahahhaa...Cheers!
I’ve got to get down there n see you guys. No one loves their job more than you!!! It’s a work of art!!!
Wow! Looks absolutely amazing! Love the red.

I have watched a bunch of detailing channels and I find yours the most informative and detailed one by far. I appreciate your love for your craft. Keep up the outstanding work.
I am going to love this series.
got to love the single stage look👍👌
I really like seeing the process. I know it but love watching you work. You really are a ace at whatever you do.💎✊

It's been a while, but man, I love videos like this. Inspirational, and awesome results. Great work!
Wow, I've never seen so much detail and science behind every aspect of a restoration. Great Job and the car is absolutely amazing, still watching but had to comment...
Alright! New product! Can't wait.
Huge difference Brian, great job.
Hey Brian! This is going to be fun!
Great demo of real life situation! Thanks
I just got a 79 in Arizona but the paint is fried. I will definitely video pulling it out. Your red paint is beautiful! Good job
Stunning work, sir. You are a true master.
I have been looking forward to this for a long time. Amazing results as always.
I’ve been waiting for this. One of the reasons I joined your channel. Corvettes all the way.
Cheers!
Well that was when GM used paint correctly, today’s production is short sighted. Amazing work Brian.

Ahh, there it is, been wondering what happened to it!
Looks great Brian!
Thanks Brian nice video, I just want to say how much I appreciate your videos.
I in return...appreciate your support.
great video again buddy.the vette looks bad ass
Interesting 503 on single stage and after that stage it looked great keeping track of this series. Wish I could come help on this mission it’s gonna be super clean.
What, no "Little Red Corvette" theme song in the background?...just kidding.
@Apex Detail - Brian, I hope that you and yours are well. I'm in NY and a high risk group. Isolated ATM. All of my bookings were cancelled, either by me or by the car's owner. Nothing happening this summer. I'm staying in my shop with my cat, Stan, working on vintage machinery to stay busy. All the best to everyone. Stay safe!
I wish you the very best Felix. Feel free to reach out anytime. Email, text or phone.
Finally out of quarantine
Brian, found something that may interest you. Detroit speed has a kit that will change the vacuum headlights to electric. Much more reliable. On my 1980, lights were sometimes very slow, sometimes only 1 would go down/up. Pricey though, but may save some headaches.
Anything is better than factory.
Wow 👍
Oh my
You should buy the new Wolfgang sio2 paint sealant!! I’d love to see a review on it. Also I noticed you mentioned in a video that you always do two coats of product before you test it on a panel. How come you do that? The normal person Who applies it to their car probably won’t do that
I have one suggestion for your reviews: when you review a product can you tell us whether it is something that you will use in your shop? I feel like it is so hard to tell when a product is something that you’ll use for a professional standpoint. I love your channel still
Can do.👍
End product introduced to the channel 🤔
The thing I'm trying to wrap my head around is using the acrylic as a foundation for a ceramic coating. You are saying it's going to bond to the paint longer that a 2 year coating will? I'm about to do my first coating with CSL & EXO and would like to know.
Just found ur videos recently and was amazed at the outcome of the work u did here .. I wanted to ask what us a good dual action polisher for a beginner .. Tt
MaxShine M15 Pro.
Great video. What was the new reading on the paint thickness gauge after these 3 wet sanding stages?
Will that glaze keep that paint from oxidizing? My red GMC Typhoon has single stage trim that looks great for a few weeks, but the haze comes back no matter what I try.
Awesome job and results! Was that original paint?
In most areas...not all.
Brain great video as always .... I was just wondering if you’d compare Wolfgang Uber Ceramic Spray wax against Adam Ceramic Spray Wax ... they both seem to be really nice ..but I’d love your thoughts on them !
Those T tops look like they’ve been repainted
Awesome vid!! I have been thinking about getting a carbide denibbing scraper for high spots.. Do you have/use one...
I am old school and use a razor blade.🙂
We use a festool carbide scraper in my bodyshop. The painters go between that and the razer blade depending on the issue. If you're new at it, carbide scraper is much safer imo.
What state are you in? Honest to god would have you do my classic. Fantastic work!
🏆🏆🏆
I have a friend that has this same car for sell. Yours is a little nicer!
Hi Brian, great video as always. I live in New Orleans, its warm already and I was going to use TAC Quartz Power Plus for protection of the hot summers. As an enthusiast, ease of application is also important. Any suggestions for a good easy to apply coating with TAC unavailable at this time?
Adams Tracer coating is VERY easy to apply.
@@apexdetail85 thanks for the response. if forgot about that product.
no spot correction and fill up on the right bottom paint damage (the circle shaped crack)? or is that beyond effective repair and wil need repainting? great to see this and also the difference before and after!!
I will tackle that later when I have an exact match for touch up paint. The first attempt was off a bit.
Brian - is the LVR503 similar to any of the Griot's BOSS correction products?
Amazing how using the proper technique, products and patience, the paint goes from dull and looking like crap to glossy and beautiful. Nice car, a saw a similar one at my local mechanic but in black. It was from a local collector who recently acquired the car in auction. And because I cannot resist, a question, when do you mask off and when you don't? In this one you masked the edges, but in the P21 Paintwork cleaner video you did not. Also, there are other products that have been applied without masking. What is the rule?
I evaluate everything that I could come in contact with and if there is a particular risk to me...I tape it.
@@apexdetail85 Hi Brian, can you do a video on this? As a beginner, I'll probably tape everything, but guidelines would be great.
What 2000 grit sanding discs did you use? Trizact only comes in 3000 and 5000 grits and I would really like to find a quality 2000 grit pad/disc. Thank you
The 2000 disc was not from Trizact. A local parts store has them
How does 3D ACA compound compare to the compound you used
Hello, any recommendations on how to clean bird droppings the safest way? I've noticed that bird droppings stain paint if left on there for long periods of time, let's be honest can't control what birds do specially after your car has just been washed and then bam!! Birds attack and you don't see it till a later time 😡 Hoping you can give an advice on how to clean it properly and safely and removing the stain that it leaves behind after trying too clean it. Thanks in advanced!
I have a detailed video for that....way back! 🙂
@@apexdetail85 is there any way you can send me the video link?? Please!
SuperMeluco look up apex detail bird poop!! I just did and there are a few videos on it
What brand and part number of tape did you use to cover the trim?
3M Precision...www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company-us/all-3m-products/~/3M-Precision-Masking-Tape/?N=5002385+8709313+8711441+8716717+8719368+8743646+3293242378&rt=rud
This is GM’s old ceramic/ Acrylic lacquer ? Do you have a thing I would like to address is the substrate of the car it’s fiberglass so I would assume can absorb and dissipate heat better?
It handles heat Much better ..yes. It sure is stubborn red.
I think LVR 404 is for light colored. Can we use it on dark color?
solomon8864 any color
Helious can be used on any color.
Does the eurofiber 50/50 have more cutting ability than say an orange foam LC cutting pad?
Very close.
#1
Hello sir! Can you make a review of Sonax Cut&Finish vs 3D One ? I think it’s a simillar products ?
3D One has a bit more bite.
3D ceramic coating as the cherry on top?
Stay tuned.🙂
What was the cure times you used in this video today?
Helious needs 24 hr.
Why use the hight helious over the dark car polish when it's red?
Helious was formulated for all colors.
So I bought the lvr 403 to use on my chili red mini Cooper. I haven't used it due to time restrictions. It's definitely a dark rich red. Will I be ok with it? Thanks for all your time.
I contacted xtreme solutions and they said both products dark and white work fine for any colors
@@henryfreeman6113 thanks man!
Let me guess... magnum wax by xtreme solutions?!?
Stay tuned.🙂
why not remove the chrome trim? seems to be something funny going on underneath here and there? Better to remove it, check if you can clean it up underneath, clean up the trim and install it back?
Some of the trim is coming off as I go. There is some discoloration here and there at the edges.
I love vettes. But my 74 vette was the worse car I ever owed - other than my chevy Vega 😂
They sure are a ton of work.
Why don’t you use a squeegee to watch your work
Just so you know... That ain't even original paint, partner.
