  • I am an average ADV rider. Can I take a challenging journey from Maryland to Price Edward Island, Canada? Yes, I can! My first leg back southbound, I make it to the amazing Matagamon Wilderness Campground, in Patton Maine. Sadly my ‪@harleydavidson‬ #panamerica broke down overnight. There was no help around. Can I get it started and limp on? Luckily, Central Maine Harley Davidson came through and fixed up my dead battery, under warranty. Onward we go!
A Huge thank you to the Matagamon Campground and Momma Bears restaurant!

I traded my 21 PAS last fall with 11k miles on it because the problems were adding up and the dealership had no answers or parts were on backorder. The usual suspects of the fuel pump squeal, battery issues, not restarting unless you walked away from the bike for a minute. Also issues with the ARH not working half the time and it stalled one day going down the highway, which was the final straw. Went back to a M8 bagger I platform I can trust. Don't get me wrong I loved the PAS and would go back if they could figure it all out and make it as reliable as the big v-twins.

I’ll say since this new battery, I’ve had no issues. But I can understand the frustration.

It does seem that the majority of issues were with the first year production models.
The only issueI had on my 22 was a not fully seated lower rad hose.
      Thats been all. (So far)

Do you think they could just make a bike with no electronics, using the same engine? Are the super complicated electronics really necessary? One thing is, none of the old Harleys have any electronics at all? Harley would have been in a better position had they sold the bike without any features at all, just analog gauges and bare bones features, so nothing to break.

    • @MCCJustMotos
      @MCCJustMotos  Рік тому

@@Ritalie I don’t know maybe…I think there are a ton of features that LOTS OF buyers want that require all those electronics (traction Control, cruise control, media, maps, modes, etc). Not only that but the govt is now regulating a lot of the tech as safety features. I’ve often wondered what an M8 pan am would ride like.

Sadly, we live in a world where everything is electronically controlled. The Pan Am is not alone . All of the other manufacturers be they the Big Four or Euro they all have very similar electronics to provide for cleaner emissions while producing plenty of horsepower. As well as the gadgetry they offer.
This is also the norm in the automotive, pickup truck and commercial vehicle industry. In short it is the norm.
I believe that the bugs which came with the first and maybe early production second model year PAs will be or have been dealt with.
To be fair this is a completely new machine from the tires up.
I love my 22 PA so much that if was a problem child I would wait and trade it on a 2024 PA.
Thankfully I havent experienced the issues that others have especially 2021 owners.
A you tube channel gentleman "Florida Jim" who does Iron Butt rides and also Hoka Hey put 47,000 miles on his 2021 before any serious issues. That being said while his dealer was busy working them out he traded for a 2023.
Hope to see some broadcasts soon on that. In closing I say give it a chance.
To the management at Harley Davidson.
Stand by your faithful PA customers.
Get your dealers who are not up to speed to get with the program.
That seems to be an issue with some dealerships. Not mine thankfully.
The success of these Rev Max powered bikes is your onus HD.
      Good luck

So I had the same issues with my 21. Essentially Harley needed to take a bunch of parts from the assembly line to replace with 22 model items. ECU being one of them. Never told them about the adaptive height issue, yet what they did fixed all of it. Multiple battery swaps did nothing. If you're still having any issues I'd take it back because it seems like they've figured out a lot of the problems

The swapping the battery out was the last thing I did and I’ve not had any issues since. Glad you got your figured out to.!

What tank bag is that and how is it mounted mate. Are you happy with it?

Love the tank bag! It’s not obnoxiously big. It’s a stock H-D (2018 up) fat boy tank bag, I custom mounted it wirh two of the trim screws on the top of thr tank and just looped the bottom stap under the seat.

I have a NOCO as well. I got the plug that goes to the battery so I don’t have to remove the skid plate. My guess it you have something leaching power, did you leave the FOB to close?

    • @MCCJustMotos
      @MCCJustMotos  Рік тому

Ouuu that seems a good idea to get a plug that goes directly to the battery. Fob was hanging far away in the tree on my jacket (you can see the jacket in the tree). To be fair I was battening gremlins this whole trip, mostly power related. There was a SB about the batteries, which is why they changed it under warranty. Ever since I’ve switched batteries, I’ve had no issues.

@@MCCJustMotos That’s good they did it under warranty. After I saw Broncoride last year when we were riding and I saw the extension plug I immediately installed it. Im heading to Alaska in a few days I dont need to worry about the battery.

How many miles on your PA ?
    Also what year is it.
Seems that battery failure is somewhat a common theme among Pan Am owners.
I gave a 2022 with 12,000 miles that I put on it. So far so good.
That being said, I plug it into the smart charger whenever it is not being ridden.
I wonder if battery failure is imminent.

I now have 11,000’ish miles on my 2021 and since the dealer replaced my battery, I’ve not had any issues.

@@MCCJustMotos Good to hear no more issues.
Danger Dan had a battery failure during his ride down the entire length of the Pan American Hwy. He holed up in Costa Rica until a Battery arrived via air shipment courtesy of Teton HD. Then he completed his ride.
I will probably have mine load tested at my dealer before I venture away from civilization.
The lead mechanic there has a 2021 abd is very familiar with them.
That you for the rapid response.
