I'm only 6'2" but I'm all spine so I'm glad you're reviewing this. 2nd, "Dirt Glide" has to be locked in as the biker name for this. C, as an electrician I can explain the rectifier location; it's a hearty component that ONLY needs those fin to dissipate heat. Unlike a fluid filled thermal exchanger like a radiator there's nothing to puncture and leak so the rectifier fins can get the dog snot beat out of them and still do their job for the most part.
Good information here, but 2 things I would have liked to have seen: 1 the air filter under the seat to make it easier to access 2 better location for the battery
I got up this morning knowing I was going on a ride. I hadn’t ridden my Tuono 1000R Factory or my Tuono 660 in quite a while so I was looking forward to taking one of those. Then I looked at my Pan America and fired it up and hit the road. When I got back home 6 hours later, the Italian bikes were still there and the Pan America had another 300 miles on it, and surpassed 9k miles on this trip today. I find myself in a similar situation almost every time I ride. My Pan Am isn’t my favorite bike, but it is my most useful (and comfortable), bike. I’m not a HD simp by any stretch. The last HD related bike I had before the Pan Am was a Buell XB12R back in 2007. I feel like HD made this bike to attract a different rider, and their gamble paid off in my case. I’d encourage anyone who hasn’t ridden one and has an interest to go try it. I have zero buyer’s remorse at this point.
For you stating you have zero buyers remorse, is saying you have buyers remorse. But don't beat yourself up too bad because anybody riding a POS would have buyers' remorse.
Great review. I am 6’4” also. I bought a used 2022 S model from a BMW dealer. It was traded in for a GS of course. Put a thicker seat on and ground down the rear seat posts so the seat doesn’t slide me to the tank all the time. I put the Indian made backrest and highway 27:06 pegs on, they are great. Madstad makes a much taller windscreen and also makes a relocation bracket to raise the screen so you can see the bottom of it with the taller risers. Just ordered the Vance & Hines exhaust which I hope will drown out some of the valve train noise which is my biggest complaint with the bike.
Still, it's great that that Harley used hydraulically adjusted valves. This is a big advantage when it comes to maintenance costs. Got to say those handlebar controls look a little crowded. I would have rather seen less buttons...

@@chadkline4268 I didn't realize we were discussing dwarves. The average male can't flat foot an adventure bike. Is it too much to ask for a 32-34 inch seat height with 10 inches of ground clearance and a 600-800cc engine? Nobody will ever take this thing on anything other than fire roads due to its weight, just ask any GSA owner.
@@CMB911 the seat height was 31 inches. And it can be lowered to 29in. So, I don't understand the complaint. I am 6'3, which isn't a giant. I'd be a midget in the NBA. 38in inseam. And every motorcycle is a PITA because they are almost ALL made for 5'8 or so. 30-32in inseam. Adv bikes are the only good option for tall men. But not this one.
I have a 22 Dirt Glide PAS and I've put about 5000 miles on it. It took about 1000 before I really started to feel the love. 2" risers and better foot pegs and the luggage system. My street glide is getting lonely and dusty. My daily rider 2022 PAS. I 100% agree with everything you reviewed.

Hey man! So I’ve worked and sold quite a few of these bikes and absolutely love them. The semi active suspension does of a little bit of a problem later on in life, right about 80,000 miles. It’ll get super sticky on startup and on more adv riding trails. As far as I know, the only fix is to do a little more suspension maintenance than you would on any other bike. But that’s the only problem I’ve seen with these
@@aaustinbond just keep to the regular service intervals, keep an eye on your forks for leaks. It’ll be slow if they do, so dust on the forks will be your give away. The system will start to squeal if it’s going bad. If it does, do your research and see if the dealership can carry or get spare systems in stock. It’s an expensive fix, but as far as I know, the only way to fix it is to replace it completely
I test rode one for a day but preferred the Africa twin. Although the pan engine is a beast I found it more like a sports bike engine then an adventure engine. Too revvy instead of torquey. Also I’m 6ft2 and could get the screen to remove air noise no matter the setting but that might be as the seat is set very high (more on the bike then in the bike). That said still a great bike. Build quality is great too.
The Pan America is a very nice bike, but with a starting price of $34,000 here in Australia it's almost triple the price of a Versys 650. And, as you know, a Versys 650 can become a real adventure touring weapon with a few choice mods. But, if someone set up a Go Fund Me for both you & Whitney to buy a Pan America for each of you I'd chip in. It'd be worth it just to see you both at the Rock Hard Cafe at the same time.

I'm glad they make it and hope they continue to improve it because competition in this segment is important. The reason we got the 2023 890 R updates is because of the T7 and 660. KTM, BMW and Triumph curranty rule the big adv segment. KTM at the top if you ask me, even though BMW is most popular.

I stand at 6'7" with a 34" inseam and have no issues riding this bike. My cousin with a 28" inseam can flat foot this bike with the seat in the lowered position and the lowered suspension at stop.
I own a 2022 PA1250s and I do the same thing with Ride Mode Custom A. All the power & throttle response, comfort setting on the suspension. That's the best road mode if you ask me. I flip it into Sport every once in a while, and always end up back on Custom A.
KLR is the ultimate Adventure Bike. When the bike Backflips down the hill with you tumbling after you don't even look at the bike before getting back on and going again!!!
As a non-HD owner, I am drawn to this model for its capabilities, power, rugged looks, lower weight, huge dealer network, great accessories and generally extremely positive reviews. Looking to pick up a lightly used one that maybe already has some added accessories and is a bit more affordable than a brand spanking new one.
I just got my Dirt Glide back from the shop after a month. The stator broke and was repaired under warranty. I am so happy to have it back! It is such a great bike.
You're the first I've heard to mention the kickstand. I had a hell of a time putting it down at the end of the test ride. I had to lean it to the right to the point it was uncomfortable. It was annoying enough to remove from consideration. The screen was an issue too, but I figured that was fixable.
Love my PanAm I have had it from 2021. Once they got thru the initial launch problems they have been great bikes! Also I upgraded my lower guard due to concerns over the rectifier but I have also yet to hear of any one who has had it damaged. Keep up the great content Spite look forward to seeing you get your own one day!
What kinks? I got a 1260 enduro and had an issue with the bike shutting down while pulling the clutch in 1st gear. Took nearly 6 months for them to fix it with a software update.
Oh let’s see. It had starter issues, software update, battery drain issues, software update. More starter issues that required changing the starter clutch to increase torque on the starter motor. The heat shield on the pipe fell off. That required a whole new header to be installed. Now that it’s gone through all of that, it’s flat out excellent.
@@cwroberts79 Wait, u didnt have the burning radiator hose, failing shocks, blown up regulator? Mine had so so many problems and HD just couldnt fix it so i had to sell it after 20K since it was just waaaay to unreliable.
The windscreen system on the PA sucks, even with the HD taller 18" screen. You already pointed out how in the highest position it actually lowers, it also does it in the 2nd of the 4 positions, just useless. You also mentioned you don't ride 2-up, well I do and the windscreen, even with the 18" HD windscreen and I tell you (and HD need to listen) it does NOT work if the passenger sits taller than the rider. At highway speeds, in particular, the passenger is blasted like being hit by freight train. I'm 5'8" and while my passenger is shorter than me they sit 3" taller on the bike. I replaced the stock windscreen system with the Madstad system (with 18" screen) and now the wind not over goes over my helmet but also my passenger's helmet and I can still see over the top of the screen.
Great bike, I’ve been looking at them since they came out and finally pulled the trigger on one last weekend. What a fun bike and very comfortable especially after dialed in.
I never cared much about Haley Davidson. I went for a test ride of an Iron 1200 three years ago and came out so disappointed. Went for a Triumph T100 instead. Last month I went to test ride their new Rev Max bikes. After the ride I put my deposit for the Nightster 975 on the spot. HD Thailand gave me the best deal ever ! They gave me 15% discount for the bike and 20% discount for accessories. That made my Nightster 975 waaaay cheaper than a Triumph Bobber or Indian Scout over here. Loving it. Such a wonderful engine. They should release more bike with this Rev Max. Now waiting for a new reach handlebar then I'm good.
The Pan Am is just fantastic, it is definately worth getting the flagship Adventure bike. I just brought one, I've had a 1988 Lowrider Sport for 35 year, I come from a country/farm background, I've spent a lot of time on dirt and a lot of time in the mountains on bitumen, I did vintage motocross in the 1980-1990's on a 1974 Yamaha 400cc motocross bike, I've done track racing on a stripped and hotted up 1971 CB500 (modified to 600cc). I also love to ride sidecars, fast, on the road, in the rain and on the dirt. I have a sidecar I fit to the old hotted up Lowrider. I've been riding 45+ years, so I think I'm qualified to put my opinion out there. The Pan Am is an amazing bike, it will do dirt, mountain roads, fast roads, wet roads, touring and track. I don't think there is enough said about the Pan Am active suspension, it is like having multiple bikes in one, the difference between Sport, Road, Comfort, Dirt soft and Dirt firm, is just amazing, then there are the engine modes that go with them, it is just crazy that they Harley Davidson did an Adventure bike, it does everything you ever wanted, except from being an uncomfortable chopper, that is restricted in where it can go. I'm in Australia, we have a lot of country and dirt roads, I only got the bike 21 March 2023, it is the exact same one as in your video (note I hate the Orange, Blue and Yellow tank schemes). During run in, I did an highway trip for 300km, I was varying the revs, doing 110kph in 4th, 5th and 6th, slowing down and speeding up. I got 21km/lt, 4.8lt/100km or 59mpg, and the range was 438km for the 21 lt tank. The 1988 Lowrider is hotted up, it is as raw as the Pan Am on Sport mode (up to 7,000rpm), it only gets 14km/lt, 7lt/100km or 40mpg. The Pan Am is 40kg lighter than my old Lowrider, and I doubt an that rides a Pan Am, would not admit they enjoyed it.
But in general what Harley product isn’t riddled with warranty issues. Harley makes a bad product even when the latest engine design is 7 years old at this point. I spent 15k on a new street bob and within two years I had 10k worth of warranty work. That’s insane! I feel lucky I was able to sell it last week. Now good luck with a completely new engine design! This company and dealerships are complete trash. Never again
@@therealcountrybumpkin let me guess, you bought a 2018-2019 street bob and you had oil pump issues in the motor? That being said, there are lots of Harley products that don't have issues. The problem is guys buy a brand new platform and expect them to be perfect the first year or two of sales when the reality is EVERY new bike has issues for the first year or two that's why you should never buy a brand new design until the 3rd model year atleast. Harley is only behind Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha by a small amount when it comes to repairs and warranty work and leaps and bounds ahead of companies like KTM, Aprillia, Ducati, Royal Enfield, BMW.....need I go on? The numbers are easy to find. The 3 Harleys I bought have been models that were out for a few years and guess what, I've literally never had a single problem with any of them lol
I went and sat at one at a dealer and the only negative? was it was a chain drive. Years ago had a Kawasaki KLR that when you loaded it with luggage would affect the chain tension
The trouble with windscreens is that high is great for the highway, but absolutely sucks ass when you're doing 2-track Jeep trails. My 2013 Tiger 800XC has a tall Madstaad aftermarket screen on it that is glorious for long highway treks, but it's horrendous when I'm trying to pick may way through a trail. For this reason I've given up on a clean wind envelope for highway travel. That being said, I ride wearing an Arai XD4 with an installed peak and travel the highway just fine on my new ride, a 2022 Aprila Tuareg. That has a pretty low wind screen, but even with the XD4's peak I don't get horrendous wind sheer.
I was a little cold on the Pan America until I test rode a demo model my dealer had, I bought one that day - 19 May 2021, I was an early adopter. It is an awesome bike, my favourite bike I have owned in 35 years of riding street bikes. It is hard to get used to revving over 5000rpms having mostly ridden cruisers from 1989-2014 and a Buell Ulysses 2014-2021 but I'll get there. For anyone on the fence, go try one if you can.
@@pauliej4208 The Ulysses was my favorite bike I have ever owned until I bought the Pan Am, it was the only bike that fit me perfectly right from the factory with no modifications. It was the most comfortable bike I ever rode, I easily did 800 mile days in the saddle and did so frequently. Having said that, there was two things I hated about it - 1) the fuel capacity was too small, I like to get minimum 200 miles between fuel stops but the Ulysses was only good for 150 miles max and often less; 2) I hated the fan that came on when the bike was turned off, it was far too loud. The Pan Am holds 5.5gal, I can usually get 230-250 miles per tank depending how I ride. The power of the Pan Am is greater than the Ulysses, the handling and braking seem very similar. Maybe a slight advantage to the Pan Am but the Ulysses was a great handling bike so it's fairly close and I'm not a real fast rider so may not be the best guy to make a fair comparison. The seat on the Pan Am is not as comfortable for me as the Ulysses was, I may have to buy a Corbin seat for it. I'm 6'2" 220lbs if that helps. I have the base model Pan Am so don't have the semi-active suspension, the Pan Am gets a slight edge and I would imagine the semi-active suspension on the PA Special would be far superior to the Buell. The cruise control buttons on the Pan Am are awkward to get used to, I honestly prefer the the throttle lock I had on the Ulysses but I'm a luddite so tech isn't my thing. I also have never ridden any other bike with cruise control so have nothing to compare it to. Hope that info is of use to you, feel free to ask anything else that I may have missed.

I just put a deposit on one exactlt like that one, last week. I'm really looking foward to is. I love the colour, I did not like the orange or blue tank options, and black is just too black. I currently have a 1988 Lowrider Sport, had it for 35 years, keeping it too. This will be quite different, and I'm looking forward to taking it off road. I come from a country background and have done a lot of off road riding in my youth, I did classic motocross for years in the 1990's.
Spite is 100% the reason I bought my HD pan am special I have the spoke wheel no flats no issues I have done some pretty intense off-roading with mine and I promise you I promise you the bike is a lot more capable then you think And the nobby tires only make it better yes it’s a bear to pick back up but truly rewarding to ride the motor is a true peach No as far as mods I’ve done to mine I’ve done the mad stads windshield and tft riser kits I’ve also done the HD 2 bad risers something no one tells you about these kits is the bars will hit the windshield so you do need risers that that pull the bars back atleast an inch Personally I’ve never had the the hand guards but am planning on upgrading to the touratech hand guards Aswell as bash plate
I had a Sportster S before I get my Pan. The Sportster S felt faster taking off,but it did not corner or shift as smooth as the Pan. Also wind management even with the wind screen made 80, 90, or more MPH very uncomfortable. Other downside is the front tire, brand new it was awesome cornering, but by 3k of doing what I like more the geometry of the tire was noticeably past it’s prime and shot by 4K. That tire ain’t cheap and there no other replacement. I could go on, and I got 9k miles of smiles with it. But over all I like my Pan way more
Pan Am has the secret sauce most of the other makers forgot or toned down. It's really simple as an equation, and the Harley designers decided to listen and build to the market instead of mandating the way BMW does. That's why Harley has no trouble moving these units off the floor and on the road. The fact they offer a peerless dealer experience for density and service in North America makes it an even easier purchase. It's my favorite bike too. It's so good. Even when it comes up short on that famous roll on revzilla did against a BMW, I can fill in the shortcomings with exhaust note satisfaction, which is something I can never do with BMW or KTM.
I really wanted to love this bike as much as you do. I rented one for a couple of days to give a fair comparison to my 1250GS and unfortunately it just didn’t stack up for me, personally. Everything about the GS just felt more refined and better thought out with the exception of that motor, if only I can swap the boxer for that engineI would have the perfect bike for me, lol!
Did I miss the part of this presentation where Spite mentions that Euro Cycles (or the appropriate brands dealerships) will be providing him with all of the following: BMW R1250GS, Ducati Desert X and Triumph equivalent(s) to the Pan America? You see, Grasshoppers, UA-cam is all about comparisons. Oh, and do Not forget to keep us all apprised about how solid and enduring that kickstand attachment point to the engine becomes over time. I rode a CVO Pan America last week at the Harley Demo truck and was really surprised; it looks like a honking big beast but it’s easier to ride than my Honda NC750X.
One big positive is the automatic hydraulic valve adjustments. Getting rid of the most expensive (or time consuming if you do it yourself) part of motorcycle maintenance is great. One big negative is that they don't offer a quickshifter in California. Every other manufacturer has figured it out, for a $20k bike honestly it should come standard.
I merely liked this bike since it came out. I’m not a HD fanboy but by no means am I a hater either…I just dig cool bikes. I made a mistake and test rode it yesterday and IMMEDIATELY fell in love with it. I recently turned 50 and have been riding for over 30 years. My last bike was a 2022 Goldwing that I actually LOVED, but I think with the kind of riding I do, (most around town and work commuting) I will have much more fun with the Pan Am. Sadly, I said goodbye to her yesterday and a yellow and white PAS is now sitting in my garage! Definitely agree about the kickstand though, lol
Went over the bars on my mountain bike and broke both my thumbs, got caught in the shifter and seat height adjusters. So I see why they went plastic on the hand guards. Couldn't ride motorcycles for a couple years after that because of the damage to my thumbs not allowing me to pull a clutch or brake lever. I'm good now, but man that was a lot of work to get back what little strength I have now.
It was great meeting you at Forgotten Angels camp out. We had a conversation about the Pan America. This is also my choice if I could afford a new Harley.
I really do applaud HD for stepping out of their comfort cruiser zone. The only thing I don't like is the chain drive...I understand why they did it, but that and the rectifier being where it is, is my only gripe. Could very well be my next bike

Never subbed to Yammie Noob, always watched for Spite anyway (prefer his laid back personality). Glad you are loving the PanAm, I love my 2022 Sportster S for the same reasons you listed as the Pan Am, wish I had it's brakes though. I want a Pan Am in the future after I'm done paying for the Sportster S.
In the spring of 2021, I bought a brand new Pan America Special. It was my 7th HD after 30 years of baggers. I liked the light weight, the high sitting position, the ride modes, and the comprehensive display. My bike was one of those which had the starter clutch problem, an issue which has been cleared up on subsequent year copies. This issue caused massive power drains from the battery and started leaving me stranded in limp mode as the battery deteriorated. 18 months later, it was fixed under warranty after the dealership repeatedly telling me nothing was wrong. The psychological damage was done and six months later, I walked out to my garage, took one look, and realized how much I hated it now. The cheap plastics, the ugly look, and the high center of gravity really were annoying me at this point. I packed up my title, rode to another dealership, and traded it in on a Low Rider ST. I took a bath on the trade but months later, it sits at the dealer, unsold. I tried to like it but after two years of ownership, I ended up hating it.
Harley certainly put some thought into the design. A great engine a bit like the old v rod. The tank is great with no angular creases like on the triumph Tiger explorer however the shaft drive on the triumph is a great thing. They are similar horsepower. I do like this Harley a lot but the 950cc engine from the new sportster seems a better bet. Maybe this Harley is better for pillion passengers. It's great but seems better for day to day reliability. The Indian FTR1200 is lovely but I prefer this. Even the price surprised me and the paint job in green with the star looks like the old army bikes.
This is a great cruiser bike that you can go down fire roads no problem. Plenty of power for cruising no mods needed. Plus stability control standard vs optional on Harley tourers.(RDRS) Most powerful Harley power to weight. Plus one of the lightest. Lighter bikes help braking, handling, and acceleration. Someone told me Harley’s PA biggest selling bike even over their tourers.
Two downsides for a big tourer bike: 1)battery is so low so its almost impossible to cross deep water - >no point to have exhaust so high. 2)chain instead of shaft. Like wtf? For such big and powerfull bike they could go for a shaft drive
I test rode one. Being 6'3" I got cramps in my legs as soon as I put my feet on the pegs. My legs were bent as far as they could be bent. So disappointed in the seating position. With the angle of my legs and the lugs on my boot treads I could barely shift with that tiny shift nub. If someone makes some pegs that are moved forward and a bigger shifter I would love to own one
I love my 21 PAS! I agree the kickstand is a POS, I don't know what HD was thinking when they designed it. Still in the process of farkling it up, next is a top box and a Corbin seat, the factory one is a bit rough on the tailbone.
I LOVE This bike, however... I am 5'6/5'7 on a great day. On the highway, its the best bike out there. Its one of the best harley's and tbh, LOVE the engine. BUT, even with the adjustable auto height, the bike is more top heavy with a very wide seat that it is still just that much too big for me. I had one, loved and hated it. Loved it when riding, hated it at stops and backing out of the garage (I lose my feet for about 3 ft and have to just cross my fingers it won't drop). My FTR1200 has a very similiar feeling but the weight sits lower.
Had one for 8 months and sold it. Reliability was questionable and I didn’t want to take it far from home because I didn’t know if it would start. Hopefully they have them straightened out now but I’m happy with a road king special now that has been stone axe reliable for the last year.
I grew up around Harleys and dual sports, and have ridden both since high school. I was never interested in the ADV bikes because they're too heavy for offroad use. This bike has caught my eye as more of a sport touring, bomb down some dirt roads, and camping machine.

I've complete 6K mile rides and 3K rides with my '21 Pan Am. I felt as comfortable on it as my road Glide. Can't wait for more road trips!!

I'm only 6'2" but I'm all spine so I'm glad you're reviewing this. 2nd, "Dirt Glide" has to be locked in as the biker name for this. C, as an electrician I can explain the rectifier location; it's a hearty component that ONLY needs those fin to dissipate heat. Unlike a fluid filled thermal exchanger like a radiator there's nothing to puncture and leak so the rectifier fins can get the dog snot beat out of them and still do their job for the most part.
Good information here, but 2 things I would have liked to have seen:
1 the air filter under the seat to make it easier to access
2 better location for the battery
I got up this morning knowing I was going on a ride. I hadn’t ridden my Tuono 1000R Factory or my Tuono 660 in quite a while so I was looking forward to taking one of those. Then I looked at my Pan America and fired it up and hit the road. When I got back home 6 hours later, the Italian bikes were still there and the Pan America had another 300 miles on it, and surpassed 9k miles on this trip today. I find myself in a similar situation almost every time I ride. My Pan Am isn’t my favorite bike, but it is my most useful (and comfortable), bike. I’m not a HD simp by any stretch. The last HD related bike I had before the Pan Am was a Buell XB12R back in 2007. I feel like HD made this bike to attract a different rider, and their gamble paid off in my case. I’d encourage anyone who hasn’t ridden one and has an interest to go try it. I have zero buyer’s remorse at this point.
For you stating you have zero buyers remorse, is saying you have buyers remorse. But don't beat yourself up too bad because anybody riding a POS would have buyers' remorse.
Great review. I am 6’4” also. I bought a used 2022 S model from a BMW dealer. It was traded in for a GS of course. Put a thicker seat on and ground down the rear seat posts so the seat doesn’t slide me to the tank all the time. I put the Indian made backrest and highway 27:06 pegs on, they are great. Madstad makes a much taller windscreen and also makes a relocation bracket to raise the screen so you can see the bottom of it with the taller risers.
Just ordered the Vance & Hines exhaust which I hope will drown out some of the valve train noise which is my biggest complaint with the bike.
Yes... the valve train noise sucks.
Still, it's great that that Harley used hydraulically adjusted valves. This is a big advantage when it comes to maintenance costs. Got to say those handlebar controls look a little crowded. I would have rather seen less buttons...
This bike looks amazing! Now HD just needs to make one in the 600-800cc range that weighs around 450 pounds for us small guys!

Is it too much to ask for a 32-34 inch seat height with 10 inches of ground clearance and a 600-800cc engine? Nobody will ever take this thing on anything other than fire roads due to its weight, just ask any GSA owner.
@@CMB911 the seat height was 31 inches. And it can be lowered to 29in. So, I don't understand the complaint. I am 6'3, which isn't a giant. I'd be a midget in the NBA. 38in inseam. And every motorcycle is a PITA because they are almost ALL made for 5'8 or so. 30-32in inseam. Adv bikes are the only good option for tall men. But not this one.

I have a 22 Dirt Glide PAS and I've put about 5000 miles on it. It took about 1000 before I really started to feel the love. 2" risers and better foot pegs and the luggage system. My street glide is getting lonely and dusty. My daily rider 2022 PAS. I 100% agree with everything you reviewed.

Hey man! So I’ve worked and sold quite a few of these bikes and absolutely love them. The semi active suspension does of a little bit of a problem later on in life, right about 80,000 miles. It’ll get super sticky on startup and on more adv riding trails. As far as I know, the only fix is to do a little more suspension maintenance than you would on any other bike. But that’s the only problem I’ve seen with these

@@aaustinbond just keep to the regular service intervals, keep an eye on your forks for leaks. It’ll be slow if they do, so dust on the forks will be your give away. The system will start to squeal if it’s going bad. If it does, do your research and see if the dealership can carry or get spare systems in stock. It’s an expensive fix, but as far as I know, the only way to fix it is to replace it completely
I demo'd one of these. At 5'8", this bike was very comfortable when it lowered it's self down.
I test rode one for a day but preferred the Africa twin. Although the pan engine is a beast I found it more like a sports bike engine then an adventure engine. Too revvy instead of torquey. Also I’m 6ft2 and could get the screen to remove air noise no matter the setting but that might be as the seat is set very high (more on the bike then in the bike). That said still a great bike. Build quality is great too.

Don’t listen to them. The inmate complainers are a vocal minority.
This latest update addresses nearly everything in that regard, the growing pains are long gone for the most part.

The Pan America is a very nice bike, but with a starting price of $34,000 here in Australia it's almost triple the price of a Versys 650. And, as you know, a Versys 650 can become a real adventure touring weapon with a few choice mods.
But, if someone set up a Go Fund Me for both you & Whitney to buy a Pan America for each of you I'd chip in. It'd be worth it just to see you both at the Rock Hard Cafe at the same time.

I'm glad they make it and hope they continue to improve it because competition in this segment is important. The reason we got the 2023 890 R updates is because of the T7 and 660. KTM, BMW and Triumph curranty rule the big adv segment. KTM at the top if you ask me, even though BMW is most popular.

I stand at 6'7" with a 34" inseam and have no issues riding this bike. My cousin with a 28" inseam can flat foot this bike with the seat in the lowered position and the lowered suspension at stop.
I own a 2022 PA1250s and I do the same thing with Ride Mode Custom A. All the power & throttle response, comfort setting on the suspension. That's the best road mode if you ask me. I flip it into Sport every once in a while, and always end up back on Custom A.

As a non-HD owner, I am drawn to this model for its capabilities, power, rugged looks, lower weight, huge dealer network, great accessories and generally extremely positive reviews. Looking to pick up a lightly used one that maybe already has some added accessories and is a bit more affordable than a brand spanking new one.

I just got my Dirt Glide back from the shop after a month. The stator broke and was repaired under warranty. I am so happy to have it back! It is such a great bike.

You're the first I've heard to mention the kickstand. I had a hell of a time putting it down at the end of the test ride. I had to lean it to the right to the point it was uncomfortable. It was annoying enough to remove from consideration. The screen was an issue too, but I figured that was fixable.
Love my PanAm I have had it from 2021. Once they got thru the initial launch problems they have been great bikes! Also I upgraded my lower guard due to concerns over the rectifier but I have also yet to hear of any one who has had it damaged. Keep up the great content Spite look forward to seeing you get your own one day!

After Harley got the kinks out, my pan am is my favorite motorcycle I’ve ever owned. I’ve owned a whole lot of them too. 17,000 miles on my pan.
What kinks? I got a 1260 enduro and had an issue with the bike shutting down while pulling the clutch in 1st gear. Took nearly 6 months for them to fix it with a software update.
Oh let’s see. It had starter issues, software update, battery drain issues, software update. More starter issues that required changing the starter clutch to increase torque on the starter motor. The heat shield on the pipe fell off. That required a whole new header to be installed. Now that it’s gone through all of that, it’s flat out excellent.
@@cwroberts79 Wait, u didnt have the burning radiator hose, failing shocks, blown up regulator? Mine had so so many problems and HD just couldnt fix it so i had to sell it after 20K since it was just waaaay to unreliable.

The windscreen system on the PA sucks, even with the HD taller 18" screen. You already pointed out how in the highest position it actually lowers, it also does it in the 2nd of the 4 positions, just useless. You also mentioned you don't ride 2-up, well I do and the windscreen, even with the 18" HD windscreen and I tell you (and HD need to listen) it does NOT work if the passenger sits taller than the rider. At highway speeds, in particular, the passenger is blasted like being hit by freight train. I'm 5'8" and while my passenger is shorter than me they sit 3" taller on the bike. I replaced the stock windscreen system with the Madstad system (with 18" screen) and now the wind not over goes over my helmet but also my passenger's helmet and I can still see over the top of the screen.

I never cared much about Haley Davidson. I went for a test ride of an Iron 1200 three years ago and came out so disappointed. Went for a Triumph T100 instead.
Last month I went to test ride their new Rev Max bikes. After the ride I put my deposit for the Nightster 975 on the spot. HD Thailand gave me the best deal ever ! They gave me 15% discount for the bike and 20% discount for accessories. That made my Nightster 975 waaaay cheaper than a Triumph Bobber or Indian Scout over here.
Loving it. Such a wonderful engine. They should release more bike with this Rev Max. Now waiting for a new reach handlebar then I'm good.
The Pan Am is just fantastic, it is definately worth getting the flagship Adventure bike. I just brought one, I've had a 1988 Lowrider Sport for 35 year, I come from a country/farm background, I've spent a lot of time on dirt and a lot of time in the mountains on bitumen, I did vintage motocross in the 1980-1990's on a 1974 Yamaha 400cc motocross bike, I've done track racing on a stripped and hotted up 1971 CB500 (modified to 600cc). I also love to ride sidecars, fast, on the road, in the rain and on the dirt. I have a sidecar I fit to the old hotted up Lowrider. I've been riding 45+ years, so I think I'm qualified to put my opinion out there.
The Pan Am is an amazing bike, it will do dirt, mountain roads, fast roads, wet roads, touring and track. I don't think there is enough said about the Pan Am active suspension, it is like having multiple bikes in one, the difference between Sport, Road, Comfort, Dirt soft and Dirt firm, is just amazing, then there are the engine modes that go with them, it is just crazy that they Harley Davidson did an Adventure bike, it does everything you ever wanted, except from being an uncomfortable chopper, that is restricted in where it can go.
I'm in Australia, we have a lot of country and dirt roads, I only got the bike 21 March 2023, it is the exact same one as in your video (note I hate the Orange, Blue and Yellow tank schemes). During run in, I did an highway trip for 300km, I was varying the revs, doing 110kph in 4th, 5th and 6th, slowing down and speeding up. I got 21km/lt, 4.8lt/100km or 59mpg, and the range was 438km for the 21 lt tank. The 1988 Lowrider is hotted up, it is as raw as the Pan Am on Sport mode (up to 7,000rpm), it only gets 14km/lt, 7lt/100km or 40mpg. The Pan Am is 40kg lighter than my old Lowrider, and I doubt an that rides a Pan Am, would not admit they enjoyed it.
I love the concept of the Pan America. My concern is that there have been A LOT of reported warranty issues with it.
But in general what Harley product isn’t riddled with warranty issues. Harley makes a bad product even when the latest engine design is 7 years old at this point. I spent 15k on a new street bob and within two years I had 10k worth of warranty work. That’s insane! I feel lucky I was able to sell it last week. Now good luck with a completely new engine design! This company and dealerships are complete trash. Never again
@@therealcountrybumpkin let me guess, you bought a 2018-2019 street bob and you had oil pump issues in the motor? That being said, there are lots of Harley products that don't have issues. The problem is guys buy a brand new platform and expect them to be perfect the first year or two of sales when the reality is EVERY new bike has issues for the first year or two that's why you should never buy a brand new design until the 3rd model year atleast. Harley is only behind Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha by a small amount when it comes to repairs and warranty work and leaps and bounds ahead of companies like KTM, Aprillia, Ducati, Royal Enfield, BMW.....need I go on? The numbers are easy to find. The 3 Harleys I bought have been models that were out for a few years and guess what, I've literally never had a single problem with any of them lol

I went and sat at one at a dealer and the only negative? was it was a chain drive. Years ago had a Kawasaki KLR that when you loaded it with luggage would affect the chain tension

I have a Pan Am and a Road King. The Pan Am is pure fun, especially in the mountains.
The trouble with windscreens is that high is great for the highway, but absolutely sucks ass when you're doing 2-track Jeep trails. My 2013 Tiger 800XC has a tall Madstaad aftermarket screen on it that is glorious for long highway treks, but it's horrendous when I'm trying to pick may way through a trail.
For this reason I've given up on a clean wind envelope for highway travel. That being said, I ride wearing an Arai XD4 with an installed peak and travel the highway just fine on my new ride, a 2022 Aprila Tuareg. That has a pretty low wind screen, but even with the XD4's peak I don't get horrendous wind sheer.

I was a little cold on the Pan America until I test rode a demo model my dealer had, I bought one that day - 19 May 2021, I was an early adopter. It is an awesome bike, my favourite bike I have owned in 35 years of riding street bikes. It is hard to get used to revving over 5000rpms having mostly ridden cruisers from 1989-2014 and a Buell Ulysses 2014-2021 but I'll get there. For anyone on the fence, go try one if you can.

@@pauliej4208 The Ulysses was my favorite bike I have ever owned until I bought the Pan Am, it was the only bike that fit me perfectly right from the factory with no modifications. It was the most comfortable bike I ever rode, I easily did 800 mile days in the saddle and did so frequently. Having said that, there was two things I hated about it - 1) the fuel capacity was too small, I like to get minimum 200 miles between fuel stops but the Ulysses was only good for 150 miles max and often less; 2) I hated the fan that came on when the bike was turned off, it was far too loud.
The Pan Am holds 5.5gal, I can usually get 230-250 miles per tank depending how I ride. The power of the Pan Am is greater than the Ulysses, the handling and braking seem very similar. Maybe a slight advantage to the Pan Am but the Ulysses was a great handling bike so it's fairly close and I'm not a real fast rider so may not be the best guy to make a fair comparison. The seat on the Pan Am is not as comfortable for me as the Ulysses was, I may have to buy a Corbin seat for it. I'm 6'2" 220lbs if that helps. I have the base model Pan Am so don't have the semi-active suspension, the Pan Am gets a slight edge and I would imagine the semi-active suspension on the PA Special would be far superior to the Buell.
The cruise control buttons on the Pan Am are awkward to get used to, I honestly prefer the the throttle lock I had on the Ulysses but I'm a luddite so tech isn't my thing. I also have never ridden any other bike with cruise control so have nothing to compare it to.

I just put a deposit on one exactlt like that one, last week. I'm really looking foward to is. I love the colour, I did not like the orange or blue tank options, and black is just too black. I currently have a 1988 Lowrider Sport, had it for 35 years, keeping it too. This will be quite different, and I'm looking forward to taking it off road. I come from a country background and have done a lot of off road riding in my youth, I did classic motocross for years in the 1990's.
Spite is 100% the reason I bought my HD pan am special I have the spoke wheel no flats no issues I have done some pretty intense off-roading with mine and I promise you I promise you the bike is a lot more capable then you think
And the nobby tires only make it better yes it’s a bear to pick back up but truly rewarding to ride the motor is a true peach
No as far as mods I’ve done to mine I’ve done the mad stads windshield and tft riser kits I’ve also done the HD 2 bad risers something no one tells you about these kits is the bars will hit the windshield so you do need risers that that pull the bars back atleast an inch
Personally I’ve never had the the hand guards but am planning on upgrading to the touratech hand guards

I had a Sportster S before I get my Pan. The Sportster S felt faster taking off,but it did not corner or shift as smooth as the Pan. Also wind management even with the wind screen made 80, 90, or more MPH very uncomfortable. Other downside is the front tire, brand new it was awesome cornering, but by 3k of doing what I like more the geometry of the tire was noticeably past it’s prime and shot by 4K. That tire ain’t cheap and there no other replacement. I could go on, and I got 9k miles of smiles with it. But over all I like my Pan way more
Put the ROX risers on mine and it perfected the ride position on and off road.
I test rode one. Love the bike, it's very cool and very fun, but stalls super easy on takeoff and hard to fit your foot under the shifter.
Harley should just give you this bike knowing that it will show up in your content pretty regularly
Pan Am has the secret sauce most of the other makers forgot or toned down. It's really simple as an equation, and the Harley designers decided to listen and build to the market instead of mandating the way BMW does. That's why Harley has no trouble moving these units off the floor and on the road. The fact they offer a peerless dealer experience for density and service in North America makes it an even easier purchase.
It's my favorite bike too. It's so good. Even when it comes up short on that famous roll on revzilla did against a BMW, I can fill in the shortcomings with exhaust note satisfaction, which is something I can never do with BMW or KTM.

I really wanted to love this bike as much as you do. I rented one for a couple of days to give a fair comparison to my 1250GS and unfortunately it just didn’t stack up for me, personally. Everything about the GS just felt more refined and better thought out with the exception of that motor, if only I can swap the boxer for that engineI would have the perfect bike for me, lol!
Did I miss the part of this presentation where Spite mentions that Euro Cycles (or the appropriate brands dealerships) will be providing him with all of the following: BMW R1250GS, Ducati Desert X and Triumph equivalent(s) to the Pan America? You see, Grasshoppers, UA-cam is all about comparisons. Oh, and do Not forget to keep us all apprised about how solid and enduring that kickstand attachment point to the engine becomes over time. I rode a CVO Pan America last week at the Harley Demo truck and was really surprised; it looks like a honking big beast but it’s easier to ride than my Honda NC750X.
One big positive is the automatic hydraulic valve adjustments. Getting rid of the most expensive (or time consuming if you do it yourself) part of motorcycle maintenance is great. One big negative is that they don't offer a quickshifter in California. Every other manufacturer has figured it out, for a $20k bike honestly it should come standard.

I merely liked this bike since it came out. I’m not a HD fanboy but by no means am I a hater either…I just dig cool bikes. I made a mistake and test rode it yesterday and IMMEDIATELY fell in love with it. I recently turned 50 and have been riding for over 30 years. My last bike was a 2022 Goldwing that I actually LOVED, but I think with the kind of riding I do, (most around town and work commuting) I will have much more fun with the Pan Am. Sadly, I said goodbye to her yesterday and a yellow and white PAS is now sitting in my garage! Definitely agree about the kickstand though, lol

Went over the bars on my mountain bike and broke both my thumbs, got caught in the shifter and seat height adjusters. So I see why they went plastic on the hand guards.
Couldn't ride motorcycles for a couple years after that because of the damage to my thumbs not allowing me to pull a clutch or brake lever. I'm good now, but man that was a lot of work to get back what little strength I have now.

I really do applaud HD for stepping out of their comfort cruiser zone. The only thing I don't like is the chain drive...I understand why they did it, but that and the rectifier being where it is, is my only gripe. Could very well be my next bike

Never subbed to Yammie Noob, always watched for Spite anyway (prefer his laid back personality). Glad you are loving the PanAm, I love my 2022 Sportster S for the same reasons you listed as the Pan Am, wish I had it's brakes though. I want a Pan Am in the future after I'm done paying for the Sportster S.

I've no doubts it's a great bike and i may sound picky but this is not a bike I'd take to actual off road in the Mediterranean.

In the spring of 2021, I bought a brand new Pan America Special. It was my 7th HD after 30 years of baggers. I liked the light weight, the high sitting position, the ride modes, and the comprehensive display.
My bike was one of those which had the starter clutch problem, an issue which has been cleared up on subsequent year copies. This issue caused massive power drains from the battery and started leaving me stranded in limp mode as the battery deteriorated. 18 months later, it was fixed under warranty after the dealership repeatedly telling me nothing was wrong.
The psychological damage was done and six months later, I walked out to my garage, took one look, and realized how much I hated it now. The cheap plastics, the ugly look, and the high center of gravity really were annoying me at this point. I packed up my title, rode to another dealership, and traded it in on a Low Rider ST. I took a bath on the trade but months later, it sits at the dealer, unsold.
I tried to like it but after two years of ownership, I ended up hating it.
Harley certainly put some thought into the design. A great engine a bit like the old v rod. The tank is great with no angular creases like on the triumph Tiger explorer however the shaft drive on the triumph is a great thing. They are similar horsepower. I do like this Harley a lot but the 950cc engine from the new sportster seems a better bet. Maybe this Harley is better for pillion passengers. It's great but seems better for day to day reliability. The Indian FTR1200 is lovely but I prefer this. Even the price surprised me and the paint job in green with the star looks like the old army bikes.
This is a great cruiser bike that you can go down fire roads no problem. Plenty of power for cruising no mods needed. Plus stability control standard vs optional on Harley tourers.(RDRS) Most powerful Harley power to weight. Plus one of the lightest. Lighter bikes help braking, handling, and acceleration. Someone told me Harley’s PA biggest selling bike even over their tourers.
Two downsides for a big tourer bike: 1)battery is so low so its almost impossible to cross deep water - >no point to have exhaust so high. 2)chain instead of shaft. Like wtf? For such big and powerfull bike they could go for a shaft drive
Spite is a much better dude, laid back, passion for two wheels, and his videos are genuine unlike that other guy (you know who I am talking about).

I test rode one. Being 6'3" I got cramps in my legs as soon as I put my feet on the pegs. My legs were bent as far as they could be bent. So disappointed in the seating position. With the angle of my legs and the lugs on my boot treads I could barely shift with that tiny shift nub. If someone makes some pegs that are moved forward and a bigger shifter I would love to own one
Yes... the Foot pegs are a little high for max comfort.
I love my 21 PAS! I agree the kickstand is a POS, I don't know what HD was thinking when they designed it.
Still in the process of farkling it up, next is a top box and a Corbin seat, the factory one is a bit rough on the tailbone.

I am 5'6/5'7 on a great day. On the highway, its the best bike out there. Its one of the best harley's and tbh, LOVE the engine. BUT, even with the adjustable auto height, the bike is more top heavy with a very wide seat that it is still just that much too big for me. I had one, loved and hated it. Loved it when riding, hated it at stops and backing out of the garage (I lose my feet for about 3 ft and have to just cross my fingers it won't drop). My FTR1200 has a very similiar feeling but the weight sits lower.
Had one for 8 months and sold it. Reliability was questionable and I didn’t want to take it far from home because I didn’t know if it would start. Hopefully they have them straightened out now but I’m happy with a road king special now that has been stone axe reliable for the last year.

Honda actually makes a good product. Harley is a headache from the day you buy.
I grew up around Harleys and dual sports, and have ridden both since high school. I was never interested in the ADV bikes because they're too heavy for offroad use. This bike has caught my eye as more of a sport touring, bomb down some dirt roads, and camping machine.
