      I will say it Pro tool sucks..locks up all the time..there 30 ways of doing something..why SO complex..rendering is slow..frustrating ... I switched to Studio one, it just works no nonsense, they are reasonable..and never needed to ring tech once..

      Every time he says "Avidly Ignore" we take a tequila shot.
      Is it a nice deal?
      I am currently using both Avidly Ignore PR haha cause I really enjoy the workflow that I have but, I am like cats. Curious.
      So I decided to go into Studio One Prime to see how it goes.
      There are some things that I can´t deny are amazing.
      I am even evaluating the possibility to purchase Studio One just as the other.
      2019 will tell.

      can't compete unless you need better marker management or session import or multiple ruler types. If they would adopt the marker management like Pro Tools and Import Session Data, and gave us more than one ruler type at a time. It would be perfect FOR ME.

    I used Pro-Tools - Too much for me as beginner to intermediate
    I used Sonar X - Too heavy for my machine and tended to load up unnecessary stuffs as well
    I used reaper, ableton, reason, cubase - I ain't no pop sampler
    Finally got my hands on Studio One 2 (now 3) - Finally! God listened to me!! Efficient, easy to integrate the devices, smooth, budget friendly and it has pretty much everything one need in general (well I got tons of other vsts for different purposes but yeah!)...
    I even started to switch my hardwares to presonus because of their awesomeness...

    Excellent review of Studio One. Just to let you and your audience know, as well as the excellent Forum at forums.presonus.com (I am one of the Moderators), there are also some excellent groups on Facebook. Search for the PreSonus Studio One group and also search for the HST Studio One Support group. There is a wealth of help, support, mixing tips and tricks there too. We're always happy to help!

    I keep hearing complaints about ProTools users not getting what they want or need, paying too much for what they get and not getting stuff for free that they should. I wonder how many people are stuck with it because of the recording industry and customers who think it "sounds better".

    I started on ProTools sometime in college in 96/97 (I’m old haha). Coming from old analog world, I loved it. It mimicked it well, but with the forgiveness digital brings.
    They just became unrecognizable over the years though. The prices shoot up with little innovation backing it up. It’s quite insane. Paying for support is also just flatly insulting.
    I switched to Cubase (after stopping by with Sonar before it died temporarily). I enjoy it. Studio 1 has become my back up DAW though for when I feel I need to try something a little new.

      The workflow and the MIDI are second to none. You can tailor the workflow to your own style. Whatever that may be. I can use a scratch pad and totally rearrange the track without destroying it and then make the changes permanent if I choose to. Studio One Pro is VERY intuitive. The 3.5 update improved the audio engine and improved CPU usage even more. I have a Mac Pro 2012 32GB Ram Quad Core. I can mix 75 tracks with over 100 plugs and not break a sweat. That's how efficient the CPU usage is. The entire workload spread evenly over each processor. The MIDI is equally as good as the audio unlike ProTools. The mixing is on par with ProTools pending on the skill of the engineer. ProTools is no longer the only player in town when it comes to mixing in the box and if you've got a quad core or better you don't need the UAD cards. Try it for yourself.

    I started with Digital Performer back in the 90s, but I've been a Pro Tools user since 6 LE. Nothing could shake me from that platform, but over the past decade, so many other DAWs started pushing the envelope.
    Last year I decided to start working through every major DAW to see what I was missing. The Cubase UI felt clunky (and no fader undo, gah). Ableton is great for writing out of my comfort zone, and I've kept it, but not for audio editing/mixing. Harrison Mixbus is novel and sounds great but feels really unwieldy for really large projects, and still needs a lot more time in the oven. Logic is feature-packed but felt sluggish next to PT's snappy interface.
    Then I demo'd Studio One 3.5. Snappy interface. Easy and convenient MIDI editing. Melodyne ARA. Pingbacks for outboard gear latency. Low latency audio AND virtual instrument recording. Mix effects (awesome idea!). It even has a preset for Pro Tools key commands which has made it quickly comfortable. I'm excited to also try out Notion integration for scoring.
    I was also excited to find out that some of my favorite features (like console undo and low latency VIs) were JUST added in 3.5. So Presonus is very active in developing actually useful under-the-hood improvements rather than just flashy new features for a press release. That's a very big deal.
    I still have a foot in PT 12 because I have a couple of in-progress mix projects that I'm not about to move to a different platform, but the last couple of new projects I've started, I've done so in Studio One. I'm still learning the ropes and have something new to look up most every time I open it up, but it's feeling more comfortable by the day. I'm getting the hype. Pro Tools is still my comfort zone by a large margin, but if anything can get me to switch DAWs, it just might be this one. If anything, I'm not finished giving it a go, and nothing's chasing me back yet.

    Jayme: FF to 2021: Any change in your thinking on this? I had given up on S1 a few years ago, but decided to give it another shot about a month ago and I've accomplished more in that time than all my other attempts (outside of Orion by Synapse-Audio, but it's out-of-date now) combined over the last 20 years. For me, the hook was learning the Pattern editor. I've created 5 songs in the last week and a half and I'm currently in sponge mode. Since this video was recorded back in 2017, I was just curious if S1 was still your preferred DAW. Thanks!

    and no, I wasn't able to achieve comforting relation with Ableton (pun intended)
    My observation:
    FL Studio : overrated (including it's famous step sequencer)
    Pro Tools : slow, frequent crashes, poor group management
    Studio One 3 : Stable, intuitive workflow, cool and colorful GUI, easy mixer routing and sends, amazing memory and group management, unique composer friendly features (arranger and scratchpad is sick!)
    overall, Studio One 3 indeed is the best DAW ever.

    hey man! great video. but, except for the double engine, everything you pointed as unique in studio one comes also in CAKEWALK SONAR many many years ago. well, now it's called CAKEWALK BY BANDLAB and the beauty of this is that now is TOTALLY FREE! i'm saying this because you said you tried every DAW, but it seems you didn't try cakewalk, at least in the last years. it was, in fact, the first DAW to be multitouch and to have fully ARA integration, not only with melodyne (wich also came free with it), but with other cool features as well. anyway, again: great video! but I thought it was worth mentioning it for those of your viewers who maybe would actually try and like CAKEWALK software. cheers!

  • @teddym2808

    Just want to correct something, as there is a lot of misinformation here. The only thing that is probably accurate is built in touch support. And since you have gone to windows it seems, you don't suffer the terrible mac performance with S1 vs other DAWs. Fair enough. But, the whole thing honestly comes across as a sales pitch for Presonus.. If you are going to spread mis info, maybe check it first. You categorically state that Studio one has a unique feature with the dual buffers. This is completely and utterly false. Pro Tools has had it since the revamp of their audio engine (any track not record armed is on 1024 playback buffer, like S1's high setting, and any track record armed is on the chosen buffer in preferences), Logic has had it for 15 years or even longer (Process buffer of small, medium or large, 512/1024/2048 samples for non record armed tracks), Cubase since Asio Guard came out (small, normal and high). Studio one is the last DAW of all the major players to have it (well, Ableton doesn't have it and never will as it's engine is truly, um, live), and it has worse performance than any of the others when run on the very same computer, as well as adding extra latency to the record armed track buffers vs the others. Only presonus interfaces seem to have better figures (quantum) in S1.. otherwise, S1's low buffer mode, i.e for tracks with the "Z" activated, is higher than other DAW's.. See this for yourself in the reported latency that S1 tells you where it says instrument latency. It probably performs close to cubase on win, but on a mac, it's not even close to as efficient as Asio Guard.. On my old macbook pro quad, using a very heavy instrument, Diva, playing 16 polyphony in divine quality mode, S1 can run 8 duplicated tracks vs 12 in Logic, 14 in Cubase and 16 in pro Tools. Pro Tools granted, only performs well at 128 buffer or higher for the live channels, so if you want to use 32 or 64, sure, use Cubase. But S1 has the lowest performing dual engine of the lot. I did other DSP tests across 3 macs with S1 using various synths and effects, and every test it got thrashed by Logic/Cubase/Pt/Reaper. I will never upgrade to version 4 as I only use the DDP mastering part of version 3, however, I will try the demo of V4 on my imac pro and I bet you anything it is the worst performing DAW on that machine too. ;)

    lol pro tools really is the worst piece of trash. It's like any product in industry: he who suckers the pros(or just pays them a ton of money) will win over the amateur. But i need to trash the Studio One 4 Artist version of studio one. Doesn't support 3rd party plugins. Cant use Amplitube, Addictive Drums or any of my IK multimedia. You'll have to pay $300 USD to upgrade to pro. So as of right now this product(that fortunately I got free when I bought my Faderport) is useless to me.

    I just have installed Studio One (after having the box in the closet for 3 years unpacked...hmmm) and so far my feeling is "forget the electric guitars, bass, keyboards and digidrums (playing drums on keyboards is..agh), just stick to acoustic guitars and Zoom: too complicated..and i am not young and smart anymore like i was...maybe..before ;) ..i am not good anyway and who needs it..." the regular gloomy bs...
    Can you please make videos on StudioOne for a complete novice, meaning, please start from the bottom: the structure and the plan of recording, abbreviations (yes, it is a killer to read and not have a clue just because of these; if someone explains something to someone the knowledge should flow to that person who doesn't know and not just for the display of what one knows), using the real and virtual effects, pedals and amps in that software (where from, how,..), mastering...and your personal experience, tricks and favorite settings and stuff?
    Thank you for confirming that i got a good software and the audiobox - i value your opinion and your videos and bass-playing are just great. Plus, it is always nice to listen to someone who talks clearly, with a friendly and joyful attitude and without blablabla, noise and flickering screen. Thank you, Jayme!

      Sorry for bothering you with this request. I guess this task is below your level of instructions. I found some videos that i didn't fully check yet on that, but i just thought that your clear explanations would benefit many people (including me) who are just starting recording (through adapters and DAW's). Thank you.

    I'm a bit confused - all (literally: all) all the features of studio one originate in samplitude. That was before Magix was trying (and is trying) to ruin it^^ Yep, all of this stuff is in Samplitude since version 8, some of it earlier. We're now at 14.

    • @debonairworthington
      @debonairworthington 5 років тому

      I'm not a Samplitude user but one thing you overlook is you don't know how many of these folks are mac users. Samplitude is windows/PC only, if I'm not mistaken.

    • @shaihulud4515
      @shaihulud4515 5 років тому +1

      @@debonairworthington You've got a point there that is true. Samplitude is PC only (unfortunatelly - Magix f*?!§d it up, MAC was a long time wish of many users). Aside from the platform, it's just common practice, most brands (e.g ProTools) claim they've brought up features like non-destructive sample handling as "new" features. Or that there's no competitor around, capable of the same features. SEK'D developed them actually back in the early '90s - Magix ruined them since them ;-)

    I switched to Studio One as well from ProTools. Enough said. I don't need to Dog Avid anymore than they already have been. PT is a great program in so many ways, but with a sub-standard support model, only minor updates to recent versions and an expensive pricing structure, I doubt I'll be back with them. Too bad for them..

    • @eman0828
      @eman0828 4 роки тому

      You mean 10 years? I've been using Studio One since it was oringally called Kristal Audio Engine and then Studio One version. Kristal Audio Engine was a project started by former Steinberg developers that worked on Neuendo and Cubase. The software was then sold to Presonus which became Studio One. The oringal developers are still the authors of the program.

    Logic has a key command I can't live without. "Go To Last Position". I use this 10k times a day while editing... I just hit my = key and it jumps back to where I just was... to audition my work in progress. No hitting stop... then using the mouse to return to my edit place... then hitting play again. All this with "1" keystroke... over & over. Saves an hour a day probably. Does S1 have a KeyComm like this I could use?

    • @deadbeatstudios
      @deadbeatstudios  6 років тому

      S1 can create it's own macros, so I don't see why this wouldn't apply. I have my playhead set to automatically go back to where I started once I press stop, but you could customize it however you like :)

    I love how you keep switching. Sticking with something just because you are used to it doesn't force the companies that make the product to better themselves. This way you force them to perform. This is a great mindset to have. I have the same with sheet music. I choose to ditch Finale and go to Musescore. Not just because it's free but also because it's open source and the community helps the owner make it better and better. That's what such a thing needs to be. He can earn his money from advertising and donations. And the result is more people read and perform music because the insane amount of sheet music available for free on Musescore. The COST of making music shouldnt be a reason to stop making music. This from a perspective of a music teacher.

      I totally agree! I'm not interested in following just for the sake of following. Experiment and refine your workflow every step of the way, always improving!

    I wish studio one had a midi capture function like Logic. It has it for audio but not midi. Also, I wish I could bounce drum tracks from one instance of Battery (or my drum plugin)
    down to a track for each drum part with out having to map each part to a aux and then bouncing. Logic lets me solo, bounce that part, solo , bounce another part all until drum tracks are in audio. Lastly I need to be able to re-map drum from Kontakt studio drummer to where ever i want it on my keyboard. There is more but if these needs were met my work flow would be great. :)

    Thanks Jayme. That was everything I needed to know. I was wondering which platform to go for this time round (I used to use Logic back in the 90s, but they are Apple only now). This sounds brilliant. And having a company that listens to their customers speaks volumes about their attitude overall. The features sound like just the job. Again, thanks so much.
