      Honestly , it is a lot like Sonar Platinum was. I see a few new things. But it almost looks like a replacement since Gibson killed the real Sonar. I am very torn between this and Cubase

    I love having in-depth videos like this. They are super helpful, and I don't need to pay for a special course just to learn how to use the DAW. BTW, Studio One is may appear simple on the surface, but it has layers of complexity. Yet, it never feels cumbersome or daunting. It is extremely user-friendly, and that is what won me over beyond any other DAW. I particularly love the drag-n-drop automated features built in to Studio One like some of the stuff you outlined in this video. More please! Keep it up. Thank you.

    This video was amazing! As a remote session drummer, a lot of times clients just want stems, but I always send them a rough mix first, and the whole mixing top down from the drum bus has been eye opening to say the least! And, the parallel compression of the whole kit at once instead of by each track was the icing on the cake! Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Joe!

    Hey Joe, most people use a 2-bus/mixbus channel before the Main out and do all the main bus processing there, with the individual buses going to that. The Main is then reserved for utility type plugs (meters, calibration, referencing, etc). But then I most often see the FX sends routed directly to the Main Out. Wouldn't you want your FX channels to also hit the 2-bus comps/EQ for control/cohesion/glue etc.In tutorials with the pros (including you), I always see the FX going straight to the Main out. Why is that?

    • @presonus
      @presonus  4 роки тому

      The Main Out IS the mix bus. There's no need for an extra bus in between. Everything is getting routed through that final stereo bus on the far right named Main Out. So I'm getting all the 2-bus goodness you're talking about without having to do an extra step. - Joe Gilder

    • @TimmSpinn
      @TimmSpinn 4 роки тому

      @@presonus I guess it wasn't a question of why you, personally, do it, but why a majority of other pros don't bus process their sends. I suppose I'm asking the wrong person, but it's in line with this video's subject.
      The biggies for using a mixbus channel are 1. Using a reference plugin like Sample Magic AB. Don't want to bus process your ref tracks. 2. A place for plugs like Sonarworks, metering, Audient MixChecker, etc. 3. In S1, there is a MixFX limit of 1 on the Main Out. I use both CTC-1 and Softube Tape via MixFX, so I need a 2nd main bus to run both of those.
      Anyway... Love your videos! And you have a great voice too, BTW!

    Thanks. I learned a lot. I'd already spent half a day trying to figure out something at the top of each channel that I had not seen before and wondered what it was. I got real confused. But then you explained the "Audio Device Controls" setting and it became crystal clear.
    And a question about how to "clear" or reset the settings which Studio One sends to the StudioLive series 3 mixer for the Fat channel. It kept changing the mixers settings and then I'd have to reset them manually; which took a while. There's got to be an easier way to handle that. Thx.

    Hey! Very useful I've been mixing with studio one for years and I still learned a couple of new things from this video. When it comes to plugin selecting or plugin dragging, I don't even use my mouse anymore to select any of my most used plugins cause I use macros. It would've been very handy to be mentioned on the video too cause it changed my life. Once I setup my macros now if I wanna open a EQ on a channel I just hit 'shit + command + E' and a new Pro-Q3 comes out, 'shit + command + S and a Saturn' comes out. All my most used plugins at one hit of my left hand and it made me save hours.

    Hi Joe and Gregor! Thanks so much for all the info. You guys are great! Wondering if you could cover a couple of things: Effects chain to use on the Main out channel when the mix is a single and not going into a project, and when it is! Also, East West has come out with Spaces II. Could you cover The proper FX/Bus chains for creating a surround effect for multiple input channels? I've set it up a couple of ways, but don't completely understand the FX channel vs the Bus channel vs AUX channel. Also, should I create separate mix-downs for stereo and surround? Thanks a million!

    I just installed a DEMO. For the most part I am quite impressed with what Personus have done. They did in a short time what STAINBERG had to do in so many years. I personally come from Ableton products and still one the fence if I want to get SO license.
    Is it possible to change specific colors or apply skins ? I watch this video and I really have problem reading the fonts. I also wish there is a much bigger selection of colors. This looks really poor since on average the operating system can use palette of several millions, why have so few colors (and they are so ugly) ? I wish there is a simple tool to create custom colors and set up own palette and be able to select from at least 128 or more. Lots of GUI have this (stupid) trend of using gray fonts on dark gray background and this makes things really hard to read. More contrast would really help.

    The "bus" thing is always confusing me. It sounds like the same thing as bouncing. Do you set the pans before bussing as you do before you bounce ? Do you keep the original tracks? Do you delete them to save processing power on your computer? If you already have them in a bus/es won't the original tracks just be clutter on the desktop?

    • @presonus
      @presonus  4 роки тому

      You're asking several questions which aren't really related. Busses are just about routing. I can tell my drums to all go through a single fader so I can turn my drum volume up and down with one fader. Has nothing to do with audio files on my desktop. All the files are saved in my session, and I'm not recording it to a new track, I'm just routing them to a pair of faders, just like you can route a bunch of channels on an analog mixer to a "subgroup" fader on the right-hand side of the mixer.

    As much as I like to work with S1 there is one point that I find very annoying. The export settings of song/stems belong to the song not to the global settings that I have to overwrite each and every time. And the program has to ask if I want to overwrite or create a unique name. If I want to overwrite I have to delete the old version or if I forget it I have to delete it and rename the new version. Very bad for workflow. Very bad.

Even Cubase offers the options (Overwrite, Create a unique name, Abort). The program stores some settings. If I export a song the program proposes the last entry of mpeg, wave ... but as a global settings. This info is a song info, too.

    Hey Joe - I'm totally knee deep into recording and have a great time. Thanks, again, for the videos! If I start with delay & reverb effects on my mixer (StudioLive 16.0.2 USB)... do they get recorded into Studio One as I'm playing guitar, singing, etc? If so, does then adding effects directly from Studio One on a track kind of make it "double effects?" Should I add effects in only one place then... mixer or Studio One DAW? I really don't want my song to sound over-processed so I'm just trying to figure out how to keep it clean and warm. Thanks!

    I wish S1 would make some known workarounds actual features. That large meter would make for a cool, official addition. And take a cue from its cousin DAW and add lufs and any other missing metering scale.
    I'm feeling a way after watching a similar "mixing in Cubase" vid. Impressive!

      Yeah the meter thing is really fun. And it kind of already IS a feature right? Resizable meter plugin. What a cool feature. Now you know about it. 😊 - Joe Gilder

      PreSonus Audio Electronics 😂 OK, it's a feature. Just not as convenient or as feature rich as the competition's. And yes, I'm glad you showed it.

    Hey, I am new to tracking and using S1 as a DAW. I am enjoying your videos, but I do have a question...why do you like to use reverb on sends and returns and not just on the individual channel strip for that particular instrument?

    I wish someone could explain how this signal travels .For example, we have a recorded track, we want to mix in some reverb or compression. Do we insert into the track or open a Fx channel and insert it there? Or do we want to send the track to a Bus channel and mix all the affects there? Mr. consfused.

    Hi. Is there a way to delete an insert with a shortcut?
    I searched the settings and found nothing.
    I'd also like to know some way to disable all inserts on a single track and how to reset it (remove inserts and sends).

    NOOB here - have the software but need a better computer (ordering today) to begin using. Q: is it worth purchasing a SECOND MONITOR for Inputs at a glance, etc (like an old school effects rack) and if so how best to utilize?? Is there a vid on this? THANKS!!

    Thank you for the video. Question: How do I route a duplicate track to a its own separate place in the mix window. I duplicated a VST track and want it to have different effects from the original VST. If that makes sense

    Hi Joe - is it possible to mix out a final version of a song wherein, as the [master mixout] is being recorded I can move the sliders on my Faderport MANUALLY in REAL TIME? I am fresh off recording two albums with my BOSS BR-1600 where that manual-real-time-slider moving was part and parcel of the making a final mix process. I have pulled out most of my hair trying to figure out how to do on this in Studio One. Thanks for any advice! -Rod

    hey joe, how do you select multiple track volumes to adjust them at the same time? So when you get your perfect mix you can raise the volume of all tracks at once to keep the same mix but to just make it louder.

      Click the first track then hold shift and click the last track in the group. Now they are all selected. If they are not all consecutive, control click each track.
