I feel like James' face pretty much sums up how we all felt playing this game as kids: "I have no idea what's going on and I don't particularly care to do the legwork involved in finding out."
The game sounds like it was made by a bunch of high people so you can't really blame him
James became famous because of his nerd character but really he is more of a film guy than a games guy. Mike actually IS like the average gamer

I have waited my whole life to see someone beat this game thank you. What an epic saga that took one man to the brink of insanity, emerging as a disheveled hero with well flattened couch cushions.

Har a lot of fun with this back in the day. I thought it was very creative. Back then ya got a game and you played it enough to figure out out.. you didnt have every game at your. disposal. Drives me nuts how feeling critical they are.. especially knowing they have played so many games that ya gotta figure out.. like Mike loves zelda and when that came out if you didn't have Nintendo power or whatever you'd never in a million years know where the secret caves were and where to put a bomb to open up an area.. yet it's the best game of all time. Haha come on guys. Just play the game and if you need some tips get online and see what you have to do since you dont have a manual.

How serious and tired Mike gets makes me laugh at how frustrating this game is. I also love how much effort Mike put in to understand this game enough to explain it, and he explained it pretty well. James was able to understand it too, which was impressive in it's own right. All in all skills were shown here.
Fun fact: The programmer for Bart's Nightmare, Bill Williams, called the game "Bill's Nightmare" because he hated working on it so much.
I wonder how much control he had over this game. I know that Alley Cat and Mind Walker and Necromancer, games he developed, mixed different gameplay styles together, kinda like how this game does. But those games had good play control and mechanics, and this doesn't.

It's a nightmare to play this shitty game! The only thing that could have made it worse is if, imagine, there existed a sequel, called "Bart's Inferno!"......
Only this time, all the effort that went in to creating that game from scratch, were done entirely by a single guy within the confines of a trap house(a run-down inner city projects' apartment complex) which the locals have taken to calling said trap house, Fucholand! Because that man who'd have inhabited the trap and who'd have created _that_ monstrosity is none other than *Fred Fuchs!!*

This was actually one of my favorite games as a kid. My mom actually liked watching me play this. She liked the music and the hilarious sound of hitting that damn saxophone. Making Homer as King Kong turn back to normal was such a satisfying feeling. Frustrating, but fun for me.

I am one of the people who actually like this game.
It is not good in any traditional sense, but it is unique enough to stand out.
It's because you had patience and figured it out like me. The game is cool when you know what you are doing but James and Mike just have no idea what to actually do and don't have patience. I loved the Ichy and Scatchy part of the game.

Spent hours upon hours on this game with my cousins as kids. Most of the mini games are easy, just Temple of Maggie is hard as hell.

Bart's shooting spitballs, not pits or seeds, spitballs were a hall mark of a trouble making kid in the 80's/90s. This is actually one of the better games on the snes (far from the best though), really glad to see you guys made a chapter 2 for it.

Lol I used to play this game at my Nana's when I was really little. Hillarious seeing two grown men just as confused playing the same game I was at 5 20 years later. But I was too young to understand any video game so I never really got frustrated with how confusing the game is.

Of course after beating the game on stream, Mike should know the game like the back of his hand after the hell he went through trying to beat it. This game truly was Mike's White Whale or an equivalent to James's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Seasons 3-8 will ALWAYS be regarded as the proverbial "golden years" among Simpsons die hards. Other seasons had their moments for sure, but the overall quality, cleverness, creativeness, quotability, and simply memorability will NEVER be as strong as those 6 seasons. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
The game is exactly like that one episode were Homer created an internet webpage with stolen images.... Just a bunch of random stuff all thrown together at you at the same time

I played this game once. Borrowed it from a friend, no instruction manual, before internet to look things up. Imagine figuring it out under those constraints. Think best score I got was in the C range.

This is one of my favorite Simpsons games. The difficulty and confusion level cemented its place in my brain as a game that I needed to replay as an adult and complete. Mission accomplished btw, after 10 years.
It all made sense when Mike streamed this, but seeing him struggle explaining things made me realize how weird this game is.

This game is really fun. It takes getting used to for sure but once you understand what's going on it's honestly a blast. I've gotten all the pages before. It's just a matter of learning the mechanics in every minigame.

Owned this game from release and back then, games were few and far between. The cryptic nature .. regarding everything .. and randomness really gave this game ridiculous replay value. The mini games were by far the best part, Bartzilla and I&S being my favorite.
Itchy and Scratchy get the mallet hide in the corner and ya can get the the whole level with out getting hit

This game came out during the 90s, when reviewers constantly ranted about games not being challenging enough, as well as gamers. The result was lots of games that were almost impossible to beat.
Apparently time constrains were put onto the developer. According to Wikipedia, the developer had such a bad experience working on this game that he quit the video game industry!
Congrats dude the end of the video was the best part. I could feel his frustration.

The hardest part of the entire game wasn’t the main street scene - it was the damn Indiana Jones level, for those who know the game... that was the worst and most difficult part
When James says the game reminds him of Doctor Jekyl and Mr. Hyde, it sounds like a new AVGN episode should be in the works for this game :)
I have a pretty traumatic memory regarding this game.
When I was a kid, my grandmother kept an NES at her house for me and my cousins. This was one of the (very few) games she had.
One day, the cartridge wouldn't work, so I asked my grandmother to fix it. She accomplished this by "cleaning it out" with her long, yellow toenails.
I haven't been the same person since.
