He kept giving the defense the benefit of the doubt. No conviction in his words at the time of the trial. OJ got away from people's justice but God is waiting for him and he knows it.
He didn’t let him off he did the best he could . He had a jury that was believing Johnny Cochran’s BS about police corruption. The two lead investigators had nearly fifty years between them commendations. Cochran tried to say Vannater planted blood because he took vile of OJ blood to enter in to chain of evidence that had to be handed to lead criminologist who was processing Rockingham. He handed that to him and it was filmed by local TV crew he was there at the time it’s documented. Why Clarke didn’t produce that film is beyond me. Darden lead detectives witnesses every one was on trial apart from OJ. The people that should have been prosecuted where the jury for failing to carry out the oath they had taken. And as soon has the juror who gave an interview when trial was over said they made up their minds they weren’t gonna convict even if he was guilty. There should have been a retrial.
It was simple jury nullification. The jury deliberated three hours. They could not have considered complex evidence. They spent just enough time to agree to acquit in the face contrary evidence.
+AntonBatey Such as the defendant's blood that was found at the scene of the crime before any blood was drawn from the defendant and against which the defense offered no argument?
Darin Pearson lol exactly. none of the blood found matched the reference samples either. so.... crickets. but these retards are groupies. defending a murderer
Too easy, too simplistic to dismiss as just low-enders...some of the jurists felt him guilty, didn't go along with the rest. It was these jurors, who would've hung the verdict, who were overcome by a poor prosecution in over their heads against pros who blew them up. Especially Scheck and Newfeld, who in very short order stepped in and destroyed their months and months of ponderous, unappealing prosecution.
Will D It was a perfect storm--incompetent prosecution, complex new theories on DNA evidence, a weak, self-important judge, race improperly introduced as evidence, a racist lying cop (who told the truth about OJ's guilt), critical witness testimony ignored and a city that wanted pay-back for Rodney King and years of racist cops et al...
ckom0007; that's just a comment out of ignorance. For the record I think OJ was at the crime scene the night of the murders. His size 12 bloody footprints place him there. However, one also knows they played with evidence. I.e. Missing blood from the sample OJ gave, EDTA (preservative found only in sample vials) was found in DNA testing of socks, back gate and bronco. The blood stain on back gate found several weeks after collection, which they found a pic taken the day of collection that showed it was not on the gate. Pressed in blood stain on sock. Equally shocking was the Fung testimony. I can fill two pages of instances where detectives manipulated evidence. None of it matters. As stated, I think he was there. If only they stayed honest and not try to bolster their case against him (dropping the glove) he would have been convicted. It makes no sense! If OJ arrived home and went from his bronco to the front door leaving a bloody trail, how does it square with him dropping the glove as he came home claiming over the fence? Considering this would be a high profile case involving a defendant who was rich and famous, they tried to make it as air tight as possible. The only problem with this is "there is no such thing as the perfect crime".
Yeah. He and his cronies are people of integrity. Jonny Cochran and herds of lawyers lived off suing crooked LA cops. You lose all honesty, integrity, soul and humanity by working for LAPD and its accomplices i.e. DA's office. Career criminals work there.
I never understood what he intended to gain by having Simpson try on the glove in the first place. I read his book years ago and he said that he and Clark both knew they were going to lose the case after final jury selection.
I love how NON lawyers sit around and bash the prosecution. Other lawyers say that Marcia and Chris put up a good case. The defence just did a good job at creating doubt and the jurors didnt seem to want to convict oj
I think he was trying to appeal to them, saying, look I know how you (the jury) feel, it's sad to do this to this so called 'hero' but still convict him. I do not think it was his personal feelings.
My heart goes out to Chris.. he’s an honest good man but his summation at the start of the clip was just awful…I think he had just given up by that point
Yeah. Sad how he was treated. I don’t rate the prosecution in this case, but I honestly believe that Darden is a good soul. He wanted to do what was right. Johnny Cochran made it miserable for him.
He let Cochran get under his skin. But Ito also helped Cochran play the race card to the point where criminal justice took a backseat to putting the LAPD and LA Justice system on trial.
It wasn't was that he was persecuted it was that he was arrogant and disrespectful during the trial towards Johnny Cochran and O.J. It was thought that he was trying to build a career on this case. He was the Pitbull for the prosecution. I believe that he is very intelligent but was on a case that he did not expect the racial component to go against him. It did and he was not savvy enough to deal with it.
Read Vincent Bugliosi's book Outrage on the trial. It was the most incompetently prosecuted murder case in history. With the defendants statement alone, Bugliosi could have put him away for life.
Mr. Darden appears to be the victim of an energy crisis. He clearly was not prepared for such a monumental task. The prosecution team was outnumbered, outgunned, and outwitted. They never stood a chance. And it didn't help them at all when Judge Ito allowed Cochran and his boys to take over the whole show.
I am presently watching this trial. What i saw recently was shocking. Darden asked Vannatter " Did you hand cuff the defendant?". Vannatter replies "no". Darden then asks "did someone else handcuff the defendant?" It does not take Sherlock Holmes to work out the answer to this question. This says to me one thing, Darden did zero preparation for his examination. Just one of the reasons this trial was lost!
Don't you find it strange that everyone involved in this case got a book deal worth millions of dollars. The only people who where still working was the defense attorneys, no one working for the State after this trial, but they'll never admit how the screwed up the case.
Darden told the jury that this was a tough case and he wouldn't want to be in their shoes. Basically telling them that it is a reasonable doubt case. He had a hand in losing this case.
Wow. Now I thoroughly understand why the prosecution lost this case after watching all 4 segments with Charlie Rose. Darden is a good guy but he is a soft spoken milquetoast. The trial needed a hard driving prosecutor like Juan Martinez, the guy who sent Jodi Arias to jail. Darden is so non commital, Rose tried numerous times to get him to say if he thought Johnny Cochran believed simpson was guilty. His soft spoken non comital attitude probably was conveyed to the jury.
+FastgunEd true, but thats the prosecution teams fault, they added darden because of his image as a black man, the way things went in this trial it i think the result remains the same. Johnny Cochran and his risky ideas were too much for any prosecution to handle
Wasn't the DAs fault. The jury was purposefully picked to be sympathetic to black people. On top of celebrity and the lapd being a known racists corrupt organization. The DA had no chance from the get go. Fuck you for blaming a honest hard working man because he doesn't have the bravado of your liking.
Pointless to listen to; what's he going to say? Does he even know now that he and Clark were in over their heads, should've only had supporting roles behind the scenes. Much more interesting to have spoken to Gil Garcetti and other decision makers as to why they didn't have top, savvy, experienced people in there. So many mistakes, beginning with the MASSIVE Clark error to include huge numbers of black women jurors that the defense immediately knew were gold for them and toxic to the prosecutors...why was she allowed to determine this on her own completely mistaken, arrogant hunch that she could win them over? Why was she the sole decision maker in the glove fiasco? PATHETIC AMATEURS. The defense will forever be grateful.
@11ASCT I agree.. I think it was a terrible closing speech. Closing speeches are the last resort, last ditch effort to inflict as much influence as possible on the jury. However...i think that Darden's heart had left the case long before the closing speech was made. This interview alone is perfect proof that it had. If someone doesn't have the heart to put into a speech that critical, then its inevitable that the speech will lose its punch.

Fuhrman was the last person to have done anything wrong in this case and Darden should man up and admit that he screwed up big time. This asshole even went as far as to say that he was more disgusted by Fuhrman than OJ. Let that sit for a moment. Darden thinks that this type of perjury is worse than savagely butchering two innocent human beings.
Nope.. The defense did their JOBS and kicked ass. The LAPD, STATE, AND CSI people FAILED. ACCEPT IT. They failed the Browns and Gold man's!!! The defense were excellent. They did not lie or manipulate. They made you consider another side of it. Which is what they as SUPPOSE to do
OJ had money, and a star-struck jury, plain and simple! The prosecution had a solid case! OJ could've taken the stand and said "I did it", and the jury would've STILL found him innocent. VERY VERY SAD!
Darden's lack of prosecutorial acumen was part of the problem with the not guilty verdict. Marcia Clark exhibited many of those same characteristics. Considering the bias of that jury, the prosecutor would have had to have been a grade "A" prosecutor (like Vincent Bugliosi) to get a conviction. Neither Darden nor Clark was grade "A" prosecutors. Marcia was more to blame than anyone....She clearly didn't read the terrain, clearly didn't have the understanding of what city she was in and what time in history she was in....NEVER assume what a jury is going to think, and I believe she did that....
Hey Chris, who killed Michael Nigg after Goldman was killed , the same way Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman were killed? Given that Nigg and Ron Goldman were friends and both worked for Mezzaluna Restaurant? Also I would like to hear your explanation for murder and disappearance of other employees who worked for that restaurant during that time?
Let us think about a trial of a women accused of murder, then the defense lawyer stand up and ask one of the witness for the prosecution: "Have you ever said the word "bitch" in the last ten years?" I could not think of anything more crazy and hilarious......Specially when many women use that word. In the simpson trial, anybody could expect both defense lawyers and prosecutor behaving like "tigers", speaking firmly and showing great confidence. The defense lawyers fulfilled the expectations, but chris darden acted like a tiny little kitty, speaking PAINFULLY, and telling that he didn't like to be there doing that task (UNBELIEVABLE!). If you know about another prosecutor saying that please let me know
GR RYS yeah change bitch into have you ever called a women a fat cunt. and the jury was filled with a bunch of fat cunts. bitch doesn't quite sting enough. but seriously Darden needed to acquire a short term cocaine habit if he wanted to win this case. dude is sleepy. lkl
The 'Charlie' O.J. keeps 'hypothetically' referring to is...JASON! jason Simpson, his son. This was who was waiting in the SUV and who O.j. says followed Ron Goldman in thru the gate to where O.J. already was and O.J. assuming Goldman was just another of Nicole's many boyfriends immediately became incensed leading to the loud verbal argument that brought Nicole out of the house and then when the actual fight started Jason naturally jumped in armed with his 2 Ginsu knifes one of which he handed off to O.J. and then while O.J. struggled with Goldman Jason might have gotten a stab or two into poor Goldman and then when Nicole tried to intervene Jason switched over to Nicole while O.J. finished off poor Ron Goldman. Da End.
No second footprints. Good theory though. Jason got a lawyer so he wouldnt be questioned bu police. But all the evidence points to one killer. One set between the bodies.
What surprised me in the FX movie... is Shapiro was allowed to walk up to those gloves and put them on to begin with when court was in recess. Leather gloves, I know the ones I've used in horseback riding or even driving gloves are supposed to fit tightly. You have a pair of leather gloves, that where soaking wet in blood (at one time) when they dry, they shrink. PLUS OJ had a pair of rubber gloves on because it's evidence. Why when Shapiro handled those gloves he was allowed to do so with no rubber gloves on himself. So duh,the gloves where not going to fit him as they did.
Chris Darden just comes off as lazy and laxed as a lawyer. This clip shows that all too well. I wouldn't want him representing me not even in traffic court. He didn't stand a chance up against Johnnie Cochran in the OK trial. You have to be an attorney at war as my man attorney Alton Maddox would say. If your attorney says he's an attorney at law, run in the other direction and find yourself a new attorney.
If I ask a lead detective in Mark furman, did you plant any evidence in this case and he said I wish to invoke my fifth amendment, then that's an acquittal for me
I feel better knowing oj is in jail for the vegas thing. The only reasons he got away with murder were the dream team, a weak judge, AND jury nullification.
He is SOOOOOOO boring ... .. the jurors stopped listening to him before he even finished standing up. From across the street he is so boring everybody stops listening to anything he has to say. GOOD JOB ON THE GLOVE!! 👍🏼
how did this guy get to that case. It is the opposite of what he said. EVERYONE WOULD and SHOULD have wanted to be there. That jury was privilege to be on that jury. This was the most important case in american criminal history. He diminished the importance of the trail and everyone's role in the courtroom. I really think he may be an idiot.
I totally agree...damn, could he more boring? I mean, living up a little...show some force and excitment in your closing argument. The jurors were probably asleep listening to him. I'm getting sleepy just listening to him in this interview.
I know today, you will be incredibly sad about OJs passing. I know that you have advocated for him for years. We have argued, always respectfully, about his guilt, or innocence. I send you my condolences for your loss. You know my feelings about him, and I wasn’t happy he had passed. I’m not that much of a monster. I thought I’d let you know, that I know you are most probably mourning for him. He will be judged now, and he will get whatever justice is coming, good or bad.
chris darden is intelligent,a good lawyer, and a good man! but the mistake he made was when he had simpson try on the gloves against clarks' advise. he should have just let Cochran do it,then took a new pair of gloves the same size and had phil vanatter, who had the same size hands as simpson put on the new ones.then simpson probably would have gotten convicted!
Darden singlehandedly lost that case. Very thin skinned. Didn't have thhe chops for this case. We all know bout the glove but he made many mistakes. Feel bad for the Goldman's. The jury couldnt stand him either. They disliked Marsha more but he wasnt to far behind.
Nope you can blame the jury all you want .. there were a TON of mistakes made in the case and in the first stages of investigation ... The US law states that if there is any reasonable doubt in any case you must find Not Guilty !!!!! Be mad at the founding lawyers who made these laws years ago not the jury.. they did their jobs ...
He’s a good man, he made so many mistakes in prosecuting this case.
Dumby Darden.
He kept giving the defense the benefit of the doubt. No conviction in his words at the time of the trial. OJ got away from people's justice but God is waiting for him and he knows it.

When you have a Prosecutor who sounds embarrassed at having had to prosecute you have a big problem.
Should never have asked for OJ to try on the gloves
Was he reading the closing argument word for word? What a joke!
I think Chris is holding back for some reason.
god that was a TERRIBLE closing speech
no wonder OJ won
No audio?
Let us think about a trial of a women accused of murder, then the defense lawyer stand up and ask one of the witness for the prosecution: "Have you ever said the word "bitch" in the last ten years?"
I could not think of anything more crazy and hilarious......Specially when many women use that word.
If you know about another prosecutor saying that please let me know
GR RYS yeah change bitch into have you ever called a women a fat cunt. and the jury was filled with a bunch of fat cunts. bitch doesn't quite sting enough.
but seriously Darden needed to acquire a short term cocaine habit if he wanted to win this case. dude is sleepy. lkl
disastrous summation
Karma. That's it. The police did it to themselves. The jury was a view into what was reality back then.
Karma to whom? The police isnt a person
goldeneyeforevercom true
This guy basically apologized to the jury for trying OJ for murder. Ugh.
The only honest lawyer in this case!
Darden has integrity and courage unlike the disgraceful so called Dream Team!
You have a pair of leather gloves, that where soaking wet in blood
(at one time) when they dry, they shrink.
PLUS
OJ had a pair of rubber gloves on because it's evidence.
If your attorney says he's an attorney at law, run in the other direction and find yourself a new attorney.
i agree. nigga always looked tired
Lol, I couldn't have said it better myself.
Darden was a weak puppet lawyer.
i always liked darden
The glove actually fit when O.J. put it on, even with his plastic glove. And remember O.J. lost his glove so it wasn't a great fit anyways.
If I ask a lead detective in Mark furman, did you plant any evidence in this case and he said I wish to invoke my fifth amendment, then that's an acquittal for me
Losers gonna lose and Darden was simply outclassed.
Johnny Cochran walked all over this guy.
the complete opposite of Johnny Cochran. The jury probably were not exactly intrigued by Darden. Johnny.....you couldn't wait to hear him.
Darden was sullen and in competent. He brought nothing to the case.
How the fuck can everyone look.exactly the same as their real counterparts in this series , it is fucking nuts
I feel better knowing oj is in jail for the vegas thing. The only reasons he got away with murder were the dream team, a weak judge, AND jury nullification.
He’s a horrible lawyer he let his emotions play out in court Johnny played him good
@Polotov
Before the OJ case, he prosecuted 19 cases and won all 19. I don’t consider that record to show he was a horrible lawyer.
He is SOOOOOOO boring ...
.. the jurors stopped listening to him before he even finished standing up. From across the street he is so boring everybody stops listening to anything he has to say.
GOOD JOB ON THE GLOVE!! 👍🏼
The jury did look at everything it took them 3 long hours 🤣
Don't blame Fuhrman. The glove did you in
good point
how did this guy get to that case.
Don't forget Furhman.
@AroundSun I agree with you.
They "looked at everything, the entire case" ...what a weak summary argument... "the evidence indicated" ...he was innocent!
So true
Good person but terrible lawyer.
When you do.
When you do
Did he have a stroke?
But the world knew he did it man
Yeah..... weak....didn't want to be here.....brilliant!
Furman lied that was enough to say he planted the glove
Darden was a trader to the black community
dolt DARDEN was the sleeper defense attorney for THE DREAM TEAM.
He didn't do it
Read Dardens book. In Contempt.
damn this guy is soft, he hasn't said once that he IS GUILTY....He makes it look like a reasonable doubt case
ASMR-Den
😂😂😂👏🏻
5 00 there are people in mycommunity there are people who belive he's innocent. Dr
@LegalEagle911 The prosecution had a SOLID case.. It has to do w/ OJ's money and fame and a star-struck jury. PERIOD!
Total amateur in this more than clear cut and obvious double murder case
7 not a susp
@hoosierdaddyinsfca Agreed.
Its Token..the token Black guy
thanks, see what that nutcase above me wrote
she has no clue
Johnny C killed this dude
Abject failure
