20 of them in a sealed box with 200W RMS would be an interesting test. They sound pretty musical at around 30-40hz. It will always sound crappy if you overpower it.
People always cap on cheap brands: People really capped on Pyramid back in the day. As one of the worst, cheapest. They had a line of products called Legacy. Well, I only had about $1,500 to spend on an entire system that could bump including deck. Going in a small hatchback. We custom built a box, that took the entire hatch. Put two Legacy Comp 15’s. The dang magnets were almost as big as the speakers! A Legacy 1000 watt amp. 2 Legacy 200 watt amps. A Legacy crossover. A set of Legacy 6x9’s in their own boxes in the back window. A set of 3 way 4 1/4s in the back deck lid. Then up front we did a set of Legacy 5 1/4 three ways in the doors. And Legacy tweeters at the top of the doors. Even the wiring and fuse blocks were Legacy! The only thing that wasn’t was my JVC DVD single din deck. We also highlighted the entire car with purple and blue lighting to match the paint job and to match the amps and subs which were purple and blue. Let me tell you, that car was bananas! The door skin panels were moving in and out a good 3 inches. It’s a miracle the doors didn’t separate! 😂 But I will tell you what, that little system was hitting hard and clean! We could be heard a good 4 to 5 blocks away on a low traffic day. And it was easily metering in the high 130’s. And the sound was deep, rich bass. And the mids and highs were crystal clear. The Dre Day album sounded incredible in that car. You could hear nuances like the little reverb tings on the snares. All from a system with deck and wiring included for under $1,500! The deck alone was over $400. The only Pyramid/Legacy system I have ever seen that nice. Even to this day. In fact, the reps for Pyramid saw my car. And for a time, we were discussing them sponsoring me… I should have taken more pics of the system. It was pretty incredible. I have one or two pics of it. But should have gotten more. Great memories. But yeah, you can put together incredible systems for small money if you are creative. And you know how sound resonance works. 🤷♂️ Me and my best friend at the time built and installed this system. Then we lost touch for 25 years. We just recently got in touch with each other a few months ago. And we are now building a killer new system for my car now with all Infinity. It is gonna be pretty wicked. And the friendship being reconnected on such a project after 25 years is pretty damn awesome too. 😎 🔈 🔊
A while back I bought 4 super cheap 8” subwoofers off of Parts Express for $8 each. I put the theile small parameters into a bass box calculator and built a 4th order bandpass box. With a $100 Power Acoustic Walmart subwoofer amp running them at a 2 ohm load, it peaked at 135 db at about 47 hz!! Fast forward a little bit and I bought eight 6.5” woofers from Parts Express for a little over $8 each. I installed them in an infinite baffle setup running off of a D4S JP8 at 2 ohms. I never got them metered but they sounded really clean, had decent overall output, and useable output down to about 25 hz! Cheap “subwoofers” can sound good as long as you don’t expect them to sound like an expensive Sundown sub.
That can be used for homemade Bluetooth speaker and or replacement driver on lower RMS applications thanks Parker for testing and reviewing a wide variety of audio
They are ok as door speakers. I had got something similar from Pyle many years ago and installed them in a matrix. I crossed them over at 120hz. The car had 2 way speakers, but all the 6.5 inch cones were done. For $6 they performed as good as some more expensive door speakers.
If you need a “sub”woofer in this size at this price, the Dayton TCP115 is solid. I use them in Bluetooth speakers ported to 45 Hz and they perform very well.
Seeing that tiny 3.5" speaker flexing like that was HILARIOUS! When we were kids my buddy had a 1983 S-10 with two 6.5" woofers in a skinny box with a home stereo amplifier on a power inverter...lmao Then I got my Explorer and installed a Sony Xplod tape deck (this was 1998) Sony 10-disc CD changer, MB Quart 5x7 split sets in the doors, a US Amps 125x4 1/4 ohm stable amp, and two JL Audio 15s. I am 40 now and my BMW has two Sundown 12s in it...once a basshead, always a basshead.
Pyle has been making decent stuff since caveman days. Decent, not great. I dunno about these plastic baskets, i have almost bought a couple but theres just better options avail now
There have been some suggestions of making a box and putting many of these subs in it to see what they can do. Id start at like whatever area of these speakers covers an 18 inch sub and see what happens. That equates to about 26.5 of these little fawkers. 32 of them in series parallel will get you .5 ohm. DO IT PARKER, DO IT!
Pyle super pro subs in the 90s were the shocker of the industry, along with the radio shack 15s and 18s (I still have 2 of the 18s for home audio and going strong), so don't sleep on the cheap gems when they come along. Like skar, American bass, Savard and the new kicker lineup.

they did better than i expected tbh, they put up a heck of a fight. Not sure if the value makes sense but I could see some potential uses for them (stick a couple of these and a couple cheap dome tweeters in a small enclosure and make a homemade bluetooth speaker?)
reminds me of that movie "Tommy Boy"... Pyle looks around sees no one: "Look if you want me to put a mid in a box labeled subwoofer I will, I got spare time..." You had me laughing at the massive surround LMAO
Dude those little things were getting down, and for Pyle I’m super surprised! Loved this video. Do 6.5 build next . Lol , I’m doing 6 6.5 lanzar build to see how it can thump ! Love it man keep up the bass love
I'd definitely consider using those as midbass for small speaker projects. I'm impressed with the durability of them. On my headphones they were clean down to 100 and started getting mud by 80, 60 they were just harmonic noise. Definitely not bad for what they are at that price. Absolutely not subwoofers lol but not garbage.
Anyone else waiting to see them in the toyota to see if they made any db readings?? I was hoping you were going to do that! Maybe do it again but get more and make a bigger box with a port maybe??!!
Hey man! Just discovered your channel... I'm an old bass head myself from the 89s and 90s..jusf getting back into it.. Got the Pioneer DMH 4660 Nex and got some Sound Ordinance 6.5s in all four doors and a kicker hide away 10 behind one rear seat and 2 6 inch Bose woofers in one of those spare tire cylindrical boxes and a Pioneer 150 watt amp behind the other! Sounds f'ing amazing and I re-polished and re-honed my skills watching your channel... Keep up the excellent work at putting out high quality content brother! Peace!
Seems like these little guys would be good for a small computer setup or pimping out your kids power wheels. I was surprised they lasted as long as they did to Parker. Lol😂 Great video sir!
Last pyle of.... Sub, i had was 20 years ago probably me and some friends put it in a five gallon bucket and hooked it to my phoenix gold 2800.1 it actually lasted a few minutes jumping out of the bucket and i almost felt bad for not giving the sub away instead of taking it to the bbq
I legitimately bought one of these to try and upgrade a old doss soundbox xl woofer, I'll mostlikely have to modify the mounting spot but I think it will be cool, ( just receive the pyle woofer and it already was getting hot just from the doss xl amplifier 🤣 only 12 watts and that was almost to much, I modified the doss speaker to fit this speaker and it does have some improvements on bass and looks pretty nice in there
About to re do my system. Gonna be using 20 of these for sub duty, 3 pairs for mids and 2 sets for tweet duty, since they can apparently play more range than any speaker ive ever seen lmao
Great review! I'm looking for some small subwoofers for some 2.0 music/multimedia speakers for my laptop, and these might fit the bill! Just some near-field 50Hz response would be nice.
In the configuration used, if the second speaker (from the left) failed open circuit, the left-most speaker would not respond regardless of whether it had failed or was still quite robust.
I would be interested in seeing you test that Kicker Key 500.1. They barely have any videos or info on people trying them with different subwoofers. I’d be interested in seeing you test it with actual budget subwoofers, sundown lcs, nvx vws, kicker comp r, alpine type s, etc. I know I have one personally and the configuration makes it difficult to try to pick out a subwoofer. I know there are more people out there who are in the same boat. Stock radio and added the 500.1 to boost their stereo but I don’t know if 150x4ohm is going to be bumping a whole lot. Haha. But 500x1ohm seems more manageable. I hope you can make a video like that work for your channel! Thank you! Keep up the content, very informative and entertaining!
Hey Parker let me get that subwoofer box with subs for my Yugo I'm putting a system in. I'm using a Rockford Punch 40 on my subs it would be perfect. Puts out 40 watts
Man, I used to have a pair of Pyle Driver 2's 15" way back in the day. Thought it was awesome lol. It's crazy seeing them making little mins subs like this.
You should try the same wiring config, but invert 2 of them.... maintain the overall 4 ohm load but now its a push pull which will increase power handling a little and should increase low end extension as well....and did you put any fill in the box? One of the cardinal rules of speaker building never leave a box empty.... But still a cool vid
Extreme Bass Car Audio channel here on UA-cam built a box using some similar size speakers in custom made box as well as Hexibase channel UA-cam as well 3D printed a box with 2 3" in a wave box and sounded amazing.
Aww this is the cutest lil thing I've seen in a while😍! Get it lil baby subwoofer❤😂😂 Aye for real tho,I'm already interested because I've been thinking about doin' a sound bar over my back seat in my pickup. Why? Just because I feel like building some stuff this coming weekend. Thanks for the review✌️
DD audio Trinity audio maybe JL maybe some of the new pioneer I've been seeing over 1000 rms some real new videos and stuff with some different subs. Maybe start showing RMS power on amps and power going to subs and more statistics of what's going on.
If they'd remove the word "sub" and adjust the wording a little it would be a hit! That seems perfect for someone setting up a front stage off of head unit power.
thoughts on taking like 12-20 and making like a portable speaker out of them 360 degree firing sound and maybe like 4 actual speaker around the same size and put them on top with like a bluetooth head unit on top and a nicly sized box with a lawn and garden battery in it or somthing like that
I'm actually kind of impressed with these cheap little speakers lasting like that and taking that kind of abuse. I definitely see where they could have some uses though especially with how tough they seem to be.
Polk audio has soundbar that comes with a separate sub, the same size as that! The sub gets deep, and loud enough to rattle windows! I wonder how they got that setup to sound so good!
im looking to build a sub box for my pc speakers.I have an amp and I a set of advents for the front stage. I may use my older yamaha center and surrounds for whent im not listening to music where dolby sounds beter. Can you find a speaker about that size that is really rated to cover sub frequencys? My amp can go down to 2ohm I beleive since I been running two 4 ohm 15s off it in my shed. got a bigger amp for the shed now.
i know I'm late to the party, i think you're going to have to partition the box in pairs. interesting to see they were doing what the said i guess in a way. rock on keep up the good content.
Pyle… making errors and fake advertisements since 1995. On a side note, Wikipedia is misleading on the subwoofer actual frequency response. 90% of all subwoofers on the market are efficient up to 75Hz. For higher bass, you need a midbass woofer which is more efficient. If you try to play anything higher than 75Hz through a subwoofer, you’ll notice that a midbass woofer is *WAY* more efficient at playing.
Might just be the recording but it sounded to me like they were clipping? Dunno if that's a rattle from the box, mechanical noise, actual clipping or just the recording?
At least they were honest about the power ratings. I just bought 2 of them to see if they do OK as a midrange in a 3 way setup (I blew my Dayton 3.5's, too much power). If not I've got a couple speakers I can use to test amps, and I'm out less than $30.
Dear Sir, What is the largest amp, name brand and model you would recomend for a stock cars electoral system without having to upgrade it. . i want to run 2- 12in subs in my van and i want to stay under a thousand dollars for the subs and amp. Please i need some advice so i don't get it wrong. thanks.
Logitech uses the same specs with a passive one at the other end, they can fill a 56x28ft living room with no issue. Not to be compared against SPL comp. subs.
In my opinion, the beating these things took, and for the price, would make awesome door mid-bass woofers. These things took a beating before seizing. Pyle has always made gems here and there in their lineup, but also a lot a of junk at the same time haha!!
Hey kiddo, you might be too young to remember this, but Paul is not an Amazon brand. It is a Walmart brand and it was sold widely at Walmart for a long time and also for a long time a bunch of car audio stores sold Pyle as a cheaper way to get quality sound. Now they have power acoustic, which is nothing but a renamed razor audio, which coincidentally enough was also sold as a more budget, friendly car audio option at a ton of walk-in car audio stores.
20 of them in a sealed box with 200W RMS would be an interesting test. They sound pretty musical at around 30-40hz. It will always sound crappy if you overpower it.
I agree!
At that point though u can buy a decent 12 that will whoop 20 of those

i think quiter better sounding bass is better then ur car rattling tbh

You could spend twice as much and get some pyle 8" woofers from parts express and the outcome would be so much better.
I personally love the skil saw box with the alex pro caulk job! great vid! be a nice speaker for a cpu system
Do you got a dats to run a sweep on these
Ok let’s build a 6th order with like 50 of these and break some records, let’s go!!!!!😂
I’d be down! Haha
Extreme Bass Car Audio channel here on UA-cam built a box using some similar size speakers in custom made box as well as Hexibase channel UA-cam as well 3D printed a box with 2 3" in a wave box and sounded amazing.
They're pretty adorable to be fair! I wonder if these would work well in a portable speaker build?
Aww this is the cutest lil thing I've seen in a while😍! Get it lil baby subwoofer❤😂😂 Aye for real tho,I'm already interested because I've been thinking about doin' a sound bar over my back seat in my pickup. Why? Just because I feel like building some stuff this coming weekend. Thanks for the review✌️
Parker did you stuff the box with poly fill
That was funny to watch!! 😂😂 thanks for doing that because I needed the laugh so thank you!!!
Good man! Was fun to make for sure
♥️🙏🏼❤️
I can almost guarantee frequency response is more like 120hz to 8,000hz
Might have to get a few and make box just to mess with in the house already have 2 Pyle mini amps
When you going to get some 975 1250 magnets in. Some big new name subs. PSI resilient sound ECT....
Too heavy haha
Huh? This is a basshead page lol. Definitely something needs to happen lol. Nothing left.
DD audio Trinity audio maybe JL maybe some of the new pioneer I've been seeing over 1000 rms some real new videos and stuff with some different subs. Maybe start showing RMS power on amps and power going to subs and more statistics of what's going on.
Damn! That sh!t bump lol! Cone area is king! I like the 4 together @ 100hz! Thanks Basshead Parker!!!!!
Yessir!!
Folded horn, I bet that a 10 ft tall horn would wake those right up.😏
If they'd remove the word "sub" and adjust the wording a little it would be a hit! That seems perfect for someone setting up a front stage off of head unit power.
Maybe with a better box a pair of them could do well like in a bluetooth setup or a boombox with the right low wattage amp with some decent tweeters.
Good Video Bro. Keep up the good work. Been watching your videos for years now. Just haven't said anything back then.
Parker the Basshead 💯 every Sunday is complete whenu upload a video
Glad to hear it man!! Means a lot
@@ParkerTheBasshead I enjoy your content since the day I started viewing your vids
Tang Band makes cool little subwoofers
A great sub for DIY arcade cabinets.
I have two of the pile subs1600 watts each they sound excellent
Pyle, but damn it that basket looks pretty nice for 12 bucks! Nice review Parker, love the review.
thoughts on taking like 12-20 and making like a portable speaker out of them 360 degree firing sound and maybe like 4 actual speaker around the same size and put them on top with like a bluetooth head unit on top and a nicly sized box with a lawn and garden battery in it or somthing like that
0:48 what was that for
Built in same facility as JL audio I mean Garmin
Put a aero port in it
I'm actually kind of impressed with these cheap little speakers lasting like that and taking that kind of abuse. I definitely see where they could have some uses though especially with how tough they seem to be.
Polk audio has soundbar that comes with a separate sub, the same size as that! The sub gets deep, and loud enough to rattle windows! I wonder how they got that setup to sound so good!
Are these sold in pairs?
Dang parker I would be in basshead heaven if I had all that equipment setting in my man cave lol
It would be fun to build a T line box for one of these. I'll bet it would do pretty well 🤙
im looking to build a sub box for my pc speakers.I have an amp and I a set of advents for the front stage.
About 4 of these would make for a bass guitar practice amp set up, and ok for low wattage.
i know I'm late to the party, i think you're going to have to partition the box in pairs. interesting to see they were doing what the said i guess in a way. rock on keep up the good content.
Fun video brother! 😎✌️
Glad you liked it man!
Love that( janky little box)😂❤
Getter done
Love your videos bro
Please i need some advice so i don't get it wrong. thanks.
Generally 1500 watts. Depends on the vehicle tho
For something this cheap yet its a great performer for making DIY bluetooth speakers
We've been jyped !! The thumbnail shows those geeen label subs mang
You really should have put them in a ported box. Or... Passive radiator.
Heat melted the dust cap
It's a midbass speaker not a midrange. The different is in the surround
