Worlds CHEAPEST subwoofer takes on 12,000 WATT Amp!!!

- In this video I purchase and connect the cheapest subwoofer I could find online (Pyle) to my crescendo Encore 12k to prove that you can run low powered subs on a high power setup if need be. Proving the point it is better to have headroom and over power your speakers rather than under power them. Enjoy!

Remembers when Pyle was the powerhouse of DJ equipment along with Pyramid Lanzar and Cerwin Vega.
Yep lol
So I’m old-school. And I’m in my 50s. About 35 years ago Pyle Was the speaker to go to if you wanted base. If you look at what they called a Pyle driver 6 x 9 it was as heavy as some of the 10 inch subs today. It’s probably 3 Times heavier than that subwoofer.
That’s awesome
Finally someone saves a sub than blowing it up THANK YOU ALL GEAR MATTERS
Lol.... that’s what I’m sayin’ 😂
There’s a lot of misconceptions about power in the car audio community making me glad that this video was made. People think that sending too much power to a driver will shorten its lifespan when that’s not the case. It actually plays better because of the extra dynamic power available. My Comp S that’s rated for 300 rms/600 peak receives about 500 watts of clean power and it has no problems utilizing it. As someone else said, blowing equipment is usually when clipping and excess distortion comes into play otherwise you’ll be fine. Coil may get warm but if your woofer has a good cooling system, that shouldn’t be too much of a problem either.
Yup and the box being ported also adds to the cooling dynamics
Not sure, clipping is usually about tweeters because they get more power when trying to reproduce all the harmonics in squared off waves. Also tweeters are killed by inadequate crossover (set too low or with too shallow a roll off).
With bass it's more about whether the music is long continuous tones without breaks, or short kicks with possibly a bass guitar line. You might be able to send a thousand watts or more to a 300 watt sub on rock music (provided displacement limits aren't exceeded in the enclosure you're using), but would kill it as soon as you switched to rap bass.
I've found the dangers of excess clean power are that the speaker doesn't even sound all that bad before it dies.
From my understanding, pofessional sound engineers generally try to use an amp which is capible of putting out 2 to 4 times more power than the driver is rated for. If I were using 100 watts to play a 40 hertz tone which results in an output of 130 db, and the recording reaches a point where the level of the 40 hertz tone dropped 10 db in the studio, it will result in reducing the amp power from 100 watts to a single watt. Having extra power provides headroom for the dynamics of music so when parts of recordings that are recorded at a lower level are reached, there is still plenty of power to drive the speakers without clipping.
What is dirty power
@@TimpBizkit No, clipping is not “usually about tweeters”. Clipping can occur in an amp, subwoofer, speakers, tweeters, etc.. Their are plenty of resourceful videos and articles that can explain in deeper detail about what clipping actually is. Just make sure your equipment is receiving the proper voltage/signal and you will avoid waveform extortion, therefore making sure you are not clipping and not at risk of damaging any of the components in your system. Wether it’s the amp, sub, tweeters, speakers, etc.
I had pyles back in the 90's and went to Rockford's but never had a problem with pyle just wanted Rockford's because everyone else had em lol
I like your thinking man, blowing a good sub aint right
That’s what I’m sayin. But many do not agree lol
Waist is not fun
“good”
I used to blow speakers but I quickly realized its not good for the amplifier or the subwoofer so I stopped blowing them for good
Only way to test it...
I remember when i was a kid in the 90s pyle made some of the hardest hitting subs on the market behind cerwin vega strokers.
Yep
Also behind the lanzar dc series
Respect, for not destroying good gear no matter how economic it is. It would probably shine on a Decware Deathbox.
Finally someone talking about that and not the opposite when the amp is the limiter. Also in the case of a high power amp on not even half what it can do make a lot cleaner power and is very dynamic compared to a small amp that is just enaugh for the system. Because of cleaner and more dynamik power it also sounds better :)
Yes sir
Mechanical limits. You will hear it bottom out. Thermal limits you will start to smell the coil heating up
My car smells of mdf but nothing else and the smell is stuck in my brain
Love it makes me know that I need a bigger amp. That cheap Pyle really did move for $27😁💯
It really did move a lot more than i thought it would considering it probably does not have that much rated linear excursion. i was impressed
@@NextLevelCarAudio me too
Thanks for not blowing it bro... I loved ur way of thinking... Now a days there are less peeps out there like u.... Never waste valuables
Thanks :)
The part that kills speakers is distortion. Be proud you have a clean amp!
i never understood the saying "Overpowering your sub"
only if you push the driver beyond it's range, you don't need to use 100% of the amp lol
If the driver is only ever loading the amp 20% that just means that the amp is coasting all the time, never working too hard which is good for efficiency...
when i build a computer i go with a PSU that will exceed the need by like 50% so the PSU is coasting never having to struggle to keep up with demand.
Exactly
I love that I found your channel I've learned so much from your videos
Pyles are real god i used them in the 90’s and it never disappointed…🔥👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I had a whole pyle system back in the days and I could make home windows vibrate and car alarms go off. Pyle and Phoenix gold was cheap but trunk bangers
Using pyle gear 6.5” came with crossover box and tweeters all for 30$. They sound good for the price running from my pioneer headunit. I know my clipping volume so i play it safe.
Hell yeah, I was impressed with the quality for the price. In guess haters out there will always just hate
@@NextLevelCarAudio exactly
Would have been nice to see/hear it mounted in a simple sealed box.
I actually remember when Pyle wasn't bad a long time ago lol. keep up the great videos. Awesome setup I'm jealous
Thanks man. Appreciate the comment
ive seen a video in yt where a local news channel they did a segment on them. i never knew they used to be made in usa till i saw it
I've got 9 pyle 15s sealed powered by 2 ignite 6000s strapped in a expedition. It's a budget build but it sounds great.
That’s some man!
we called it pyle-o-crap lol
I’ve been telling people for years that if they send clean power to a subwoofer that is not clipped and you aren’t mechanically maxing out the subwoofer then it will last a very long time.
I’ve got a video on my channel showing how long it takes to blow a cheap subwoofer. Seconds is all it takes if the signal is clipped. That same 125 watt 8” subwoofer lasted 9 months with 500 clean watts going to it! That’s proof that those people bragging about blowing subwoofers just don’t know what they are doing.
Hell yeah!
This is known throughout the world sertainly in the pro audio pa market. An ac signal has peaks but as a up and down varying signal it's not constant. If you put 3000w of a single base test tone that will probably do some damage
From experience, this subwoofer can take plenty of power but when it’s in a sealed enclosure the tensile leads get hot and break easily. I had a few of these and all of them still have broken leads. If you can find a way to reconnect them, you Will have a very good low budget sub especially once it’s broken in
It was very interesting to watch this. Thanks.
Thanks :)
First system back in 1996 2 10" Pyle's on a 400watt Jensen amp
In my 86' Ford Escort wagon. Back when power was a buck a watt.
I remember when Pyle Drivers were awesome subs. long time ago. The Pyramid bought them out. All downhill from there
Yep
80s shiiid
That Pyle held up pretty good
I have used pyle subs before with good success. For A CHEAP sub I never had an issue with them.
12kW / 4 Ohms are 219V. In this case you can plug it into a socket and enjoy the mains hum without grill the speaker.☺
???
He stated the amp is 3k at 4ohm and he didn't max it so nowhere close.
Thanks for protecting our resources and planet by not ruining the sub. Respect
Heck yeah .
I have the Pyle tube sub and it slaps it’s hella old bc they used to make quality bangers
Awesome 😎
Pyle is actually very good. My dad had some 6x9s in his truck for years and he had it on a Jensen old school 300watt amp they have very good sound quality
Love your box. Lol looks like you just refurbished a TV stand or one of those 40s turn table cabinets
😂
Wow!!! That was incredible!!!!!
Thanks
Not cheap, just the price of it. Honest work & great video . keep it up. Ill support & subscribe.
Thanks
I'm not partial to pyle, but thank you for not turning it into a pile.
OMG, this Amp is a Beauty ❤
Very nice informative video to small installer like me happy new year sir ang more blessing to come from phillipines
1995 had friend in south africa runni g 2x 15 inch pyles in heavy duty ported box he was hitting 151db giving earth quake and rockford a good run.
Thanx for not ruining a perfectly good sub 👍
That’s what I was thinking lol 😝
nice videos bro watching your videos very helpful
Thanks!
Im with you man! Why blow a good Sub! It’s definitely some new bass head inexpensive gear to get started! Just good enough to get him hooked line and sinker!
Yep 😂
Hey my brother in law has your same goverment..lol😮😂😝
😆
Dang bro.... angry much? Lol. I’ll pray for your soul
@@NextLevelCarAudio ... Factz angry for no damn reason smh🤣
Came to watch you blow this up cos im looking to buy some was surprised to see you spare its life like an undersized fish. Just keep swimming little pyle!
😆
Nailed it at the end 👍🏼
Thanks!
Amp power is only half the story. Distortion and clipping will kill it faster than over powering it in very short bursts. As long as you don't hit xmax and bottom it out it can probably take 800 or more for a good while before getting toasty. Got some old school road masters rsw80 dual voice coil subs and they are rated for 40 watts per coil or something close to that and I've pushed them with 100 watts plus driving them hard to the mechanical limits *with out bottoming out* for extended periods and while they did get pretty warm they did not darken the voice coils and they did not blow.
Yes sir. That was the point of this video honestly. To show that you can connect a low power sub to a high power amp and still run it OK as long as you set gains accordingly.
Best video I’ve seen in a while
Thanks man
0:08 Pyle? Back in the olden days, 1990, they was the shit. High school, reading car audio magazine, and seeing cars in the hood, that had systems.👌🏿
Back in the gap about 12 years ago my box guy back then was for hooking up everything. He put together big $10,000, $15,000 systems but he actually preferred doing the pyle and spl brands and shit like that and man use to make that shit sound stupid good. High's lows every thing
That’s awesome!
That’s what I’m talking about
I bet you two of these 10 inch pyles in the right box will sound great for the everyday driver who just wants the car to sound good with good bass not to heard from blocks away just enough for the person inside now I’m curious lol
I bet too! 💯
loved the video
Thanks :)
For the next experiment.. Can 20 pyle subwoofers on 6k watts produce more xpl than 2 high priced sundown subs.
Sounds fun
I love the way you think! Why waste perfectly good equipment. I am an old school Rockford Fosgate guy (built my first system in 1992 in my 89 IROC Z28. Still have all my old Fosgate amps. I ran a Rockford Fosgate Prime R2D4-10 on my Fosgate 1200-1D amp for a month before I finished my center seat enclosure for my Skar EVL-10 D2. The birth sheet on the 1200-1D is 849 RMS @ 4ohm. That little Prime 10 trooper is rated for 400 peak and stood in there just fine! It is in my wifes car now being driven with my Rockford Fosgate 301M amp.
Nice!
Damn I didnt no the little red plye could flex that much😁😁🔊🔊
If you put it in an enclosure it will blow at 4k rms
💪
💪
Hey Kimo, I just got done watching your video on your new build. Very nice. Just wanted to say Hi. I sent you a message the other day. But I finally realized that you changed your number. All good. Have a good day.
I have a cheap pioneer 12 that throws out ridiculous low bass I have it on a 1000 watt phoenix gold amplifier love it
Great video boss
If you pair two of those 10’s with an 800watt amp and put them in a cealed enclosure they won’t blow no matter what and they’ll sound very impressive.
Nice
I’m actually thinking about trying that theory I need something cheap to put in my Honda hatch back
i have 2 10's 300 watts in total. 1600 watt amp. scared to max. can i? in a tightly closed area
I would not max it out. I’d find max gain then reduce by 75%. That will give you right around 400 watts.
@@earnedlolxd453 max out the subs yeah, just don’t max out the amp or you’ll blow the subs
I remember the old school subwoofers from Walmart called VR3 for 20 bucks for a 12 inch, those good old days
lol
For kicks you should do 2 of them in an enclosure and see how they sound.
I've got some cheap Jensen 12s for 30 dollars a peace from Walmart even though they are under powered they sound pretty good.lmma buy me 2more and a quad box soon
Thats cool man. keep it bangin'
Trying a bargain build with 2 12” Power Acoustik gothic GW-124, 1200 Rms, DVC 4 ohms. Hooked to a Kruel 6800 watt 4321 channel amp. Not sure the Rms on the amp. Wondering if it sounds feasible to run them on it. The 12s are in a sealed dual box.
I think you win new just fine! It’s really all in setting the gains. Do that right and your golden
Pyle name was bought around 1990. Sound Around a distributor in NYC, owns the name. originally Utah speakers the worlds largest speaker company at one point, 50s or 60s.
It's secretly a FunkyPup... you need to hook at least three more of those amps to it
Good job on making this video without destroying a piece of the earth. Understand the demonstration is to show that underpowered sub can handle high power amp if the gain is set correctly. But what about sound quality? are these subs producing reasonable sound quality for those who are budget constrained?
I Did not test the SQ. Maybe for a future video I’ll put a budget sub in a spec enclosure to see how it matches up
I did on An older model plg 10 gear series (light purple coloured ) its ok i used it playing full range at first its ok but wen used as mid range with passive cross overs sounds splendid ' i still use it with a 3 wat home amp with a 2 way split (2" 5w tweeter ) i was shocked that the sub still played on such low power with digital eq on ( an set for the type of music one plays ) jus manages to fill the room an not disturb the negibours and their pets complaints for every day use ( music an gaming ) i cant wait to learn abt these newer models
I recently ordered the pyle power 15, lots of people say they're crap and im gonna find out what it does on clean power
Hell yeah 😎
@@NextLevelCarAudio Okay so update.... It'll probably take around 300-400 watts RMS, it blew on 600 but it didn't destroy the coil it just shorted out causing my amp to randomly go into protect
Thanks for the feedback
Great video...What song were you playing when you tested the red speaker? It sounds good...
Digital drop by bass mecanic. It is only on the dB jams volume 21 cd. Can not find it anywhere else lol
in a more extreme example in my 4th order (2 cu ft seal 5.75 ported tuned to 42) i have 2 hd (rated 4k each)12s @ .5 each hooked to 1 bass 8k per sub and things are pretty peachy til she's 2 clicks from max haha. (coil gets a lil stinky)
Nice 😂
Thats what a bass knob is for. Its actually reccomend to have a larger amp that your subs can handle. The more headroom you have in your amp. The more control you will have over your subs. Your not stressing your amp so its not generating any additional heat.
That was honestly the point of this video. The beauty of Headroom
pyle made 18s and I replaced some destroyed cerwin vega drivers with 2 pyles in the junior earthquake cabinets and you know what they pounded
Used to run Pyle's 40 years ago...
Chances of amp popping from blown speaker?
Damn that box looks nice
Thanks man :)
Yeah i used to to play shit out of 2x 15" JBL GT152 subs back in the days(25 years ago or so), they where rated something like 300w peak and i was putting to em around 2000-3000w rms, they where just fine around 2 years until one of em burn, but they where so loose already that they where gone anyway at that point.. after those i got Hifonics 15", that never burned but was rated something like 1000-1500rms :D
I have 2 12inch 875 watt a peice subs from walmart( dual brand)..I've had car alarms go off and police called from neighbors. Have them hooked up to a skar 1200 watt mono block. They hit hard for cheap brand to the point I've never taken them out.
Nice man!
Just found your channel. I have to say I really like the box you have. Did you build it yourself?
Down4sound pricey but good quality
Put it in a box.. im curious how its sound
Pyle use to be the shit back in the day. They sounded good to. Even back then they sure weren’t $20
Very nice
Thanks
This is why I tell people to overspend on the amp and just get cheap subs
Yep
Question for you? I have an old school MA audio amp HC-4002. Rockford fosgate P-400-4. Audio Control 6x crossover pre amp line driver, Audio Control EQS Consert Series EQ duel bandwidth pre amp line driver, Rockford fosgate 6 1/2 prime components with crossovers also. Rockford fosgate 6×9's. Pioneer head unit. It's the older unit with the built in crossover and EQ with multiple displays etc. Any advice as to whether I should ditch the crossovers for the separates and run straight from amp? But then what do I do about the 6×9's if the 4 channels are tied up. Should I ditch the audio Control EQ AND cross over and run it from my head unit? Or keep all that etc. I had this In a 84 Camaro. And pulled it out to put in my semi. Oh, and 2 Rockford fosgate punch 10's T-1'S. Any information is greatly appreciated
Sorry for the delayed response. If I were you, I’d keep the crossovers that came with your components. For 2 reasons. 1, They are already dialed in by the manufacturer for your mid/tweet to perform optimally. And 2, frees up channels 3&4 for your 6x9’s. If you got a decent head unit with lots of functionality, I like adjusting the settings from the actual head unit so I can fine tune easily on the fly if desired.
@@NextLevelCarAudio thank you for your time. Keep thumpin brother
Sure thing!
Got a question on the Boss AR & Boss elite amps both are 4000D monoblock with the same features & button... why can i not stapped the two together
You will have electrical and power alignment issues. They share the load when strapped, if not the same model amp, you will have big problems
2:45 it actually looks a lot like Sony Xplode from way back in the day like 2006ish era
Glad you didn't blow it up. When I was 10 or 11 years old I would have loved to have that sub. Hell even in my early teens I would have appreciated it.
I really want to see somebody build a wall using $20 Subs. I know somebody who built a walled system using nvx N series Subs. it was impressive
Love that h2
When I first saw this man, I instantly was reminded of John Leguizamo... he very slightly resembles him .
😆 😎
Only thing I would’ve done differently is found a kid that just started driving and starting in the system world and gave it to him. Either way cool video
Heck yeah man I’m with you there is no need of blowing a good sub and did it thump tho?
That brand has been awesome for. Any many years
What amp would you recommend for a pair of Skar SDR-10, 600w rms. Currently on an AudioPipe apmi-1500 at 1 ohm. They still feel like they can give me more.
Any amp that puts out about 2k at 1 ohm you should be golden. The Skar RP series is a good bang for the buck. Then you can keep it all skar.
Thanks for the feedback!
Incredible to say the least! What is the name of the Tune You're playing?
Name is digital drop. Only available on the DB Jams V20 cd
I love to watch things get blown up. But I don’t see the point in blowing up cheap or expensive subwoofers. Entertaining video for my morning bowl.
i agree man :P
Thanks
My amp is 400w trying to push 2 12 skar sdr 12s 1200w I keep blowing fuses on the amp
Amp is to far underpowered and is trying to push too much with too little. A good 1200 or 1500 watt amp can easily run those subs.
I need some help if you can. When I turn my stereo to a volume of 10 or below my amp for my subs turns off. As soon as I turn it up the amp comes in and my sums start working again. What could be the cause for that? I have a DNX8120 stereo with a JL Audio 500/1v2 mono amp.
I have never heard anything like that before. Interesting.... I’ll ask around
If you can send a clean signal to the sub it wont pop and you can run more power thru it without hurting it.
Yep. That’s what I was trying to show here
That did better than my Skar SDR 12" that shit the bed at about 400 W.
I'm curious if you cut the gain alot I've always read that your efficiency drops way down I'm wondering if that has anything to do with distortion?
Reducing the gain, reduces the amount your amplifier need to amplifies the signal. Not sure about efficiency honestly.... would be cool to do some tests on that. However, i know typically distortion comes from clipping your amps signal. So reducing your gain decreases the chance of you sending a clipped signal which causes distortion.
@@NextLevelCarAudio I'm also curious why efficiency typically drops on lower loads? That's 1 thing about crescendo is that their amps have high levels of efficiency even at 1 ohm and .5 ohm
Yes! Crescendo for the win! They are one of the only companies that warrant their amps under .5 ohm. But yeah, that would be interesting to run some legit tests and to one the science behind it
I got some 8" Pyle midbass subwoofers in my doors🤣 I mean, hey, it fills a spot. I got both of em on ebay for $12 lol. But honestly, I haven't had any problems with them.
I gotta say I’m actually impressed with this sub lol.
@@NextLevelCarAudio the cone is literally plastic, and you can even kinda see thru it lol. But I got maybe 35 watts going to em, and they got some excursion. They say 300 watts, but that's Chinese watts lol. They can only handle MAYBE 100 american watts lol.
Chinese watts. Lol.... you made my friend lol
U should do a video
Pyle also makes some pro audio and DJ gear too
From my experiance. Dating back to alma gates beast bronco days.
Pyle is durable, but sound quailty aint very good
I hate how hes look just above the camera but its a good video i can say that
So I'm very new to subs and amps I bought two kenwoods that are 400 rms each and 800 peak each I was going to buy a lower power amp but read that is bad for the sub and amp and I've been looking for a used amp and I found some that have about the perfect RMS but a higher peak would that be fine
Yes sir. Always better to overpower than under power so you have headroom. Check out the video I posted of me connecting a 300 watt rms sub to my 12,000 watt amp. As long as you set gains properly and in this case conservatively, it will play forever no problem.
