Gorgeous car, magnificent! A meticulous, definitely not tedious, restoration.

Love the car but not the fender skirts.

Agree. If it were mine, first thing I’d do is remove the fender skirts!

Why did Buick drop the straight eight for a V8 ?

Several technical reasons, but also for styling. This era was the start of higher horsepower engines, and to produce a straight 8 with greater horsepower, it would need to be bigger. In addition, new styles already on paper for ‘54 and later incorporated a lower, sleeker look. The straight 8 required a taller and longer front end, while the V8 was shorter, lower, and more compact.

Unfortunately the restorer changed the chrome side moldings and he eliminated the " swoosh " which you see on other 1953 Skylarks and it is not as nice. Still gorgeous though

The color doesn't quite work for me.

For a convertible, I love the color! My uncle had a ‘54 Buick Super 2-door hardtop. Same yellow-cream color, with a white top. Never much liked it on a sedan, but for some reason I like it on the droptop. I’m the same way with white cars. For sedans, meh, but love white convertibles. There’s just something about a brightly colored convertible with the top down on a beautiful summer day!
