- Today we are going to attempt to start a 1953 Buick Super with a V8 322 Nailhead engine after sitting for 30yrs. The last time supposedly this car was started was in 1987. This is a 1 Family car since new.
Bought my 53 Buick V8 in 1975 for $200, needed windshild wipers and shocks, loved that old car
I love the Buicks of this era. An Uncle of mine had a 1948 that he bought new and kept to his dying day!
I owned the identical car in 1960. Compared to this rolling wreck it was pristine and show quality!
I love older Buicks, great car's
I found if you oil the cylinders thru the spark plug holes, boots compression and provides needed lube. I am not sure they know what they are doing. It helps if you fill float bowl with gas so when it catches, it can run for a bit.
What Eric said. I learned to drive in a '53 Buick Special.
It’s not a Special, it’s a Super. ALL Specials in ‘53 had straight eights. Also, the Special is a small series. This is clearly a big series.
Yes your correct my bad. we put a New rebuilt eng. in it and sold it the other day thanks for your comment
Curbatat Productions, No worries. It’s easy to use the number of portholes in the front fender to ID Buick models, but that’s kind of a trap. From 1949 thru ‘54, the Roadmaster was the only Buick with four portholes. Then, from 1955-57, the Special was the only one with three! They liked to keep us guessing!
@@kilgorewashere8213 would the last and best powertrain fit ? A 425/360 and TH 400 ? I saw a ‘49 olds 88 with the ‘64 394 Starfire powertrain made to look like the 15 year-old version - these seem “period correct” in appearance without going all-out restomod
solid body no rust
Its a Super. The Special had straight eight, I had 2 53 Specials myself
I thought Buick totally replaced the old engine in 53.
@@MisterMikeTexas . The Special still had the inline eight 1953. But Super, Roadmaster and Skyrlak had the new V8 engine. But the inliner disaperer 1954.
@@MisterMikeTexas.And if you look at the sieds of the body, the frontfenders flows into the doors and rear fenders, On this is rather low and sculptured. The Special had this higer up and more discreet
Gas down carb: 99.7% of car guys think of that first; these guys think of it 7th. Also, they never considered cutting the fan belt away; you don't need to circulate coolant if your purpose is just to see if it'll run, and the belt has to come off to remove the frozen water pump, anyway.
They have obviously done a lot or prep work on the engine so this wasn't a direct out-of-the-barn start attempt.
Yes most idiots would have tried to pump 30 yr old gas through it. We did R/R the gas tank all fluids, let WD40 set in the cylinders for a couple of days. It did have 4 rods knocking so we R/R the engine. sold it 8500
Is there oil enough within the motor ? And water enough to stay cool ?
Did these guys prelude the engine with oil in cylinders, oil galleries pressurized with oil, etc ?
C'mon guys, why didn't you just take the belt off? Dramatic effect, right?
Motor Weeks Pat Goss say's under no circumstances just get in and start (fresh battery) a car that's been standing over six months. Without doing a full inspect and prep. Even down to checking bores etc, etc, etc. Did someone say "we need more booze"!! Poor car what a waist.
Do you still have this car did you repair already the car.
I have a 53 buick super, Will a small block fit between the drive linkage?
What's wrong with the engine it has?
But the battery still has enough charge to turn it over and over several times!
Supers are not Specials.
