Beautiful car! My late father had a '53 Buick Skylark convertible, his was Seafoam green. That was his all time favorite car...
HI Uri, Happy to read this was like your Dads favorite car :-) Thank you for viewing & sharing, Lou
Marvellous stuff 👍 and a top notch colour choice. It really suited that shade.
Lou,
This '53 is impeccable throughout. Unbelievably pristine. The interior appears virtually untouched. Restoration is master craftsman. Thank you for seeking out and featuring this beauty.
Hi Audie, High praise :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, and good news! Ken has agreed to share all his cars on this Channel, so stay tuned, Lou
What a perfectly christmassy automobile. Thanks Lou!
Hi gnewb e, Very nice :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you, and you're welcome, Lou
I remember when these came out.......beautiful car. My uncle used to get a new one every two years. Lou - you said the car came with a straight 8......no, by that time they'd gone to the "nailhead" V8, a much better engine.
These 1953/1954 Buick Skylarks are one of my favorites too. This one is outstanding in every detail!I am mighty impressed with Ken's collection of automobiles for sure Lou!!!!
Hi Jeffrey, Happy to read this one is a favorite of yours :-) Good news! Ken has agreed to share his collection with us, so stay tuned, there will be more, Lou
I can only imagine the public reaction when this generation Buick with its iconic toothy grin and smartly designed V8 debuted. That would have been the "bee's knees". Thanks Lou!
(that you brought to our attention Lou). Congrats to owner Ken for an outstanding
Hi Bruce H., Happy to read your comment on this car :-) My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou
I like to think these magnificent old cars you feature can be preserved for hundreds of years for future generations. But even if the cars can't last, your movies can and will give those people an appreciation of how lucky our generation is. Good on you, Lou. You do a great job.
Hi Don, The goal is to have FUN and leave a legacy of these great cars we enjoy, and you're exactly right, share why we enjoy them with the next generation. Thank you for your encouraging words, it's appreciated, Lou
Wow, such a classy car. The Red paint and all the chrome is spectacular!
Mr. Nagel reminds me of John "The Duke" Wayne. "
Hi Dave, Happy to read you enjoy this "classy" car :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, Lou
I am your 102nd thumbs up… How could I resist not watching Lou present this beautiful car? I owned a Buick skylark… It was fantastic.
Hi JONNIE, Happy to receive a thumbs up, and glad you had a great Buick too, Lou
Beautiful example - Ken definitely has an amazing collection. Thanks for sharing Lou!
Hi Jeff, You're right, they are all WINNERS in his collection :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Lou. That car in absolutely beautiful. The color and detail on this automoble is astounding. Really enjoyed this. Again thank you for sharing.
Hi Marcus, High praise :-) My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Thanks for the entertainment, Lou! These Skylarks were among the first cars with fins!
I would like to get the job of transporting Ken's car collection cross country one at a time Cannonball Run Style.
This car is a work of art. It's as old as I am. They don't make cars like this any more. This was the first year for the nail head V8 engine (the Roadmaster used the 322 engine).
Hi murray1575, Happy to read you're enjoying this "work of art" that is born the same year as you. Please watch the commercials (the ones you can) on this Channel as that helps pay me so I can share these videos with you. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Just need the Cadillac ElDorado and Oldsmobile Fiesta, both of the same year, to complete the collection. I don't think Chefy or Pontiac made the limited edition cars like the other three.
57 Bonneville w/ fuel injection might have something to say about that.
@@richardmorris7063 hiya Rich... The original post meant in '53... Buick had the Skylark, Cadillac had the Eldo and Olds had the Fiesta 98... All were essentially factory customs, having the first wraparound windshields, sectioned bodies and specific interiors... And each of them was about twice the price of their respective brand's top of the line.
Although, a '57 Bonnie is also KILLER!
That really is a work of art . . . Love the curvaceous styling, the detail of the restoration is superb . . .
A few years before my time but this is a real gem! So much metal and chrome! This man is the perfect owner for that car. I had a Skylark ‘85 but had nothing to do with this beauty. Thanks Lou, you’re the best car digger out there! 👍
Hi Jean-Pierre, Happy to read you enjoy this "gem!":-) Appreciate the kind words on the cars I enjoy sharing with you. You're welcome, Lou
Fantastic! A factory chopped top is definitely a rare beauty to see or own. It's no wonder why Mr. Nagel would have one in his collection. Thanks for showing us another Ken Nagel classic, Lou.
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, High praise for this car :-) My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou
🍎Wow!,what a beauty.Really impressive. The red paint make it even more noticeable.
I always loved Buicks too
I only saw one in Evansville Indiana , a insurance agent bought it new and kept ever after !!!
4:30 AM watching my car story with Lou. Looks like a cartoon car! Love it. Wishing you and your family lots of love happiness and prosperity for the holidays and beyond. And all you viewers too.😎😇😷😷😷😷🌍💕
Hi Curtis, Happy to read you "Love it" :-) Wishes received. Wishing your and your family the same, and thank you. Glad you're along for the ride, Lou
What a beautiful 1953 Buick! A home run for certain! While this is clearly a ‘Mid-century’ vehicle, I see quite a few Art Deco-like pieces, especially with the interior; steering wheel, script, dashboard texture, etc. Absolutely sunning piece of automotive history! Thanks Lou & Ken for a great showing.
Hi Rusty, Happy to read this one went out of the park :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
One of my favourite 50s American car! I believe 53, 59 were the best design years for Buick. Thanks Lou
Hi Mirch Shake, Happy to read this is a favorite of yours :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Another car that made the fifty's fabulous!! The sheet metal boys earned their money making that body!!!
Another one! What a beautiful car, I would have liked to hear the story of the low mileage, you made the comment showroom new and I would have to agree , but the term restored also was used. My absolute favorite so far! If I win the big boy lotto this will be on my list. 😀 Thanks for the looks.
Hi S Tex, Happy to read "My absolute favorite so far!" :-) Hope your number on that lotto ticket all match, and you're welcome, Lou
When I was about 15 or 16 I went with my uncle up between Gadsden and Anniston Alabama . He bought one of these and it was a beautiful car . The paint was faded but all of thar chrome made an impression on a young boy . He got in it , cranked it up and drove it up on the trailer .
Never forget that experience . It was also a red one with a white top . He bought it to resale . I never got to see it again but will never forget it .
Hi ALABAMAHEADHUNTER, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Uncles car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
As always beautiful car and awesome video. I love the headlights and bumper. Take care my friend.
Hi Fernando, Happy to read you enjoy this episode :-) My pleasure sharing with you my Friend, Lou
Hi Lou, Awesome car! That interior has to be one of the most stunning in existence - incredible! The '54 was totally different & doesn't appeal to me as much. Cheers Tiger.
Great car Lou. I love the Buicks with the full rear wheel wells.. ahead of their time. Thanks.
Hi BartRicky, Happy to read you appreciate this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
I've thoroughly enjoyed Ken's cars. IMO the styling, panache, and stature of this one really fits him like a glove! This car looks perfect with him behind the wheel! They were meant to be together and his name should be on that steering wheel! Thanks once again Lou!
Hi Brian SD, Happy to read you enjoy the styling of this car :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
WOW 🤩
My great grand father born in 1911 got also a Buick skylark for his 43rd BIRTHDAY! His brother was a professional photographer born in 1918
And took some nice shots of this majestic car!
I can still look at the Buick and the picture since my grand father gave it to me!
Hi Nicholas, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Great Grandfathers car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Beautiful car to say the least! It may be noted that this was the first year of the Buick V8. The 1953 Buick Special still had the straight eight. Thanks for this one, Lou! You always bring us the best stuff.
Hi Fred and Debra MacDonald, My pleasure sharing this one with you, you're welcome, and thank you for sharing your knowledge, Lou
Hi Lou, Thanks to you and Ken for showing this wonderful car. I love how that chrome side piece dips down almost to the rocker panel and shoots back over the rear wheel arch. That design element would be evident in many Buick’s to come and this car defined it. It’s obvious that Ken is a true car connoisseur and I always enjoy your vid3os of his collection. 👍😉
Hi Terri, It's a treat to read the details you enjoy :-) My pleasure sharing with you, and there is good news! Ken has agreed to share all the cars in his collection, so stay tuned, there will be more, Lou
Hi Terribel, That chrome side piece was what Buick called the “Sweep Spear”. And you’re exactly right; it was an iconic Buick design element for a long time.
Gorgeous example of Buick excess in the 50's!! My family owned a 1956 Buick (which I loved) but in 3 years time, they had lost a little "weight"!! Still it was a powerful car and also very stylish for the time...... great memories! It doesn't compare to the beauty of this one, though! Thanks again Lou and Mr. Nagle!
Hi George, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Family car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Hi, Lou! I gotta tell ya, you are are one VERY lucky man, getting all these rides in all these cool and extra special cars most of us never get to ride in! BTW, 1953 was the first year for the Buick V-8. Also, there was actually one prototype '53 Skylark hardtop built and that was owned by the wife of Ivan Wiles, who was Buick's general manager at the time. There was a photo feature done on that car in the February 1991 issue of Collectible Automobile. Thanks for another wonderful presentation!
Hi iswc27, Agreed, and my pleasure sharing these rides with you :-) Thank you for sharing your knowledge, you're welcome, and glad you're along for the ride, Lou
This is a dream come true. My second car was a 61 Buick Electra, God I love that car, nexts was my 68 Ford Fairlane. The 50 and 60 was the coolest rides.
Hi Niles, You're on the right UA-cam Channel for cars in the era you enjoy :-) Hope you see many more cars on this UA-cam Channel you enjoy. Please subscribe, and hit the "bell" so you can see all the cars when they are uploaded on this UA-cam Channel, Lou
A neighbor had one of these in maroon and a 57 Eldorado Brougham in black. Two of my favorite cars. Beautiful, elegant cars of the Harley Earl era. I would have to stop and check them out when I'd ride by on my bike. The Skylark was back for part of the 54 model year based on the Century instead of the Roadmaster. Only a few hundred built. Thanks again for another fine video of a true American classic.
Hi Steve, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your neighbors car :-) Hmmm, maybe Ken knew your neighbor....., Lou ua-cam.com/video/-3jMgI_wzlw/v-deo.html
Car is beautiful !!!
I love the price point history.
Back in '64, there was a Chevrolet dealership not far from where i lived.
Rode my bicycle there with some friends then when i was like 7 and saw a Sting Ray priced over $5000.
I asked my Dad at dinner "How can a car cost so much ?'' Staggering amount of money to me.
This Skylark was at that price point over 10 years earlier !!
Hi Glen, Happy to read your story :-) Thank you for viewing & sharing, Lou
Every little piece, part, Nut and Bolt on that car is cool.
That was the absolute coolest oil bath air cleaner I've ever seen.
Even the power steering pump and Reservoir was cool.
That whole engine compartment was second to none.
Must have cost a fortune and a trillion high-skilled man hours to get that car into the condition it is.
Hi Bill, Happy to read the details you appreciate on this car :-) Good news! Ken has agreed to share all his cars on this Channel, so stay tuned, there will be more, Lou
Ken always has the best.
Lou your getting close to 100 thousand subscriptions you deserve it. I had a 65 Imperial that had that extra dimmer switch radio control.
Hi Gary, Agreed :-) Thank you for sharing the details on your Imperial, and appreciate the encouraging words on more Subscribers too, Lou
I photographed one of these this past Saturday in Hartford, WI. Totally massive car. I really liked the steering wheel. The smoothness of the lines of the chassis is really something.
Hi John, Happy to read you just had the opportunity to photograph one :-) Thank you for sharing the details you enjoy with this car, Lou
Hi Lou, this is one of the most beautiful cars ever made, bar none. Thank you for showing it on your channel.
Another fabulous car from the 50s, my favorite decade for cars. The country was in good shape back then!
Gotta love that chrome grill, sheet metal stampings from that era were outstanding, Roadmaster name says it all Lou! Love the wire wheels and chopped ragtop! Original owners must have felt super cool driving down the street as “masters of the road! Smoking was considered a right in those times, ergo the ashtray and lighter!
A Motorama show car available at your Buick dealer in 1953! Thanks for sharing this important example of automotive history!
Hi Jeffrey, NICE :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
STUNNING!!
What a beautiful Skylark!!
Such a smooth body line.
GREAT VIDEO LOU.
Wow Lou what a outstanding time piece he has. I am.amazed at his collection as I follow along with you. He sure has some outstanding and unique pieces of automotive history. I love the red color with those wire wheels so sporty but yet so elegant. That had to be a awesome ride along. Just a outstanding piece of automotive history is all I can really say as it is so special! As always thanks for sharing lou!
Hi Steve, Happy to receive a "Wow" from you :-) Glad to read you enjoy this car, and good news, Ken has agreed to share all of his collection, so stay tuned, there will be more. My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Finally a Skylark on your channel! I have waited for this moment for years. My father is currently restoring a dark red one. Thanks! Bjorn:)
Hi Young Exotics, YAHOO! Or.......there was one just like it I did on 2014 :-) Enjoy this one too, Lou ua-cam.com/video/8r7jByTAa8A/v-deo.html
You always find the most amazing cars to feature love your channel enough to even watch the commercials.
Hi derwood 454, NICE ! Thank you for the support, and glad you're along for the ride, Lou
THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE BUICKS. NOT BECAUSE SSHE IS SO FAST. BUT SHE IS SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!
I love that swoop down design on the side. The 61-67 models became straight lines and lost those but they came back in 68. Very nice 53 though, I’ve only seen one once at the National automobile museum in Reno.
There were 3 GM anniversary cars for 1953, the Cadillac Eldorado, the Oldsmobile Fiesta, and of course the Buick Skylark. The windows were operated by hydraulic rams that were filled with brake fluid and were powered by the convertible top motor. Unfortunately if one of the window rams developed a leak the brake fluid would eat the paint finish. I have once owned a 1954 Hudson Super Wasp convertible with the same system, there were only 19 units made of that car. The design for the Skylark came by accident. One of the staff designers at Buick was playing with ideas of how to modify or customize a Roadmaster for himself. The `53 Skylark was indeed beautiful and impressive.
Hi Clarkecars, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. Hope you see many more cars on this UA-cam Channel you enjoy. Lou
This my favorite car of all time, that I could possibly afford anyway.
Hi TDTVKC1, Happy to read this one is a favorite of yours :-) I can't afford all the ones I'd like either, however if I video them to share with you, we can both see them. Lou
Nice to see one in another color than the popular light blue. Well done Ken!
I would like to have it today. Drop the top and click in the cruise and drive on a nice day. Can't be beat!
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL CAR LOU A REAL FAVORITE OF MINE.CANT SAY HOW I ENJOY YOUR VIDEOS
GREAT VIDEO LOU!!!! GREAT RESTORATION AND A GREAT STORY!!! THANKS FOR SHARING!!!
...hey-ya, Lou...
...it certainly must be really hard work interviewing one of the consummate gentlemen in the world of car collectors, Ken Nagel...
...he is so quietly knowledgeable about his treasured collection; and exhibits the same elegant, yet accessible, refinement exhibited in his stable of "amazingness"...
...just a couple of points...the notation of "Dynaflow" refers to the then-relatively new 2-speed automatic transmission ( intro'd in '48 as an option on the Roadmasters only, then gradually includrdon the Century, Super and Special lines....( and not to air-conditioning, which wasn't offered on this nor the final Skylark Limited Edition in '54)...
...as Ken noted, this rakish convertible was considered outrageously expensive compared to the regular Roadmaster ($5k vs. $3,200)...
...GM brought out 2 other limited edition cars, the Olds Fiesta ( in coupe and convertible), and the Cadillac Series 62 Eldorado ( convertible only)...the Buick outsold both of the others, but demand remained so low, again, in '54 that GM pulled the plug on the marque...
...about the only thing I noticed was the clock not running...please pass on that there is a gentleman in west suburban Chicago with a UA-cam channel on vintage TV, Stereos and such, who also is able to refurbish auto clocks...
...Ken strikes me as one who would appreciate getting his cars as perfect as they can be...
...and as ever, Lou, hope you didn't break too much of a sweat on this episode...
Cheers, my friend...
Hey-ya G Clark, Yes, as you can see I barely could contain myself from over sweating this one :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge my Friend, Lou
Jewel ornamental accessories from the exterior to interior, certainly it's a beauty!
That vehicle is literally a rolling exquisite stunning piece of outstanding artwork....
GREETING. From Venezuela, . . Enjoy the 1953 Buick Skylark CONVERTIBLE. Mr. Lou, SUPER THANK YOU for this * * * * * FIVE STARS VIDEO * * * * *.
Hi Alejandro, "FIVE STARS VIDEO" High praise! My pleasure sharing with you, Lou
Look at pre-war cars. The chopped top look started with them. These Buicks are some of the most beautiful cars made. I think Packard made a Caribbean that looks like this Buick. My grandfather had a 56 Roadmaster.
Hi Dave, High praise for the design of this car :-) Glad to read it reminds you of your Grandfathers car too, Lou
Fantastic thing. Thanks for this Lou.
You're welcome. Good news! One more :-) ua-cam.com/video/8r7jByTAa8A/v-deo.html
@@loucostabile. Thanks Lou. And I have just watched your video on the 54!.... The 54 remains one of my all time favourite cars... In some of the early episodes of Peyton Place, there is a 54. It never moves and is always parked outside the courthouse. It is immaculate and in its tenth or eleventh year. I can only assume that it belonged to a cast member / production crew.
WHAT A CAR! God.. love it! Would love it in dark blue but red is classic! The style is bible

Another beautiful Buick from Ken's awesome collection . The chrome toothy grille is a highlight, as is the chrome in the dashboard. Sorry to say, but I am not much of a fan for continental kits, mainly because they look awkward in side profile. He mentioned he has 28 Buicks in his his collection. How many have you shown us so far? I hope there is more to come. My late Uncle Dave was a 'Buick man' and his cars were awesome. Thanks for another nice video Lou!
Hi Michael, Happy to read you enjoy this car. He has 28 cars in his collection total (not just Buicks), and the good news is he's agreed to share all of them. Stay tuned, because there will be more :-) My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou
Growing up in the 60s I never seen 1.sporty looking belt line,1 of the best looking cars ever 53-54 skylark convertible.the 54 might have even more chrome w/ the spears & taillights.

Perfect car.. Lou a while back you did a video on a 1968 yenko camaro a rally green one.. it was number 8014.. In 1968 I bought a new yenko camaro at Jay kline Chev. Minneapolis.. number 8016 and the two cars are identical.. window sticker was $4400 hundred and change...

The stepdown model Hudson Hornets (51'-53') look to have a chopped top from the factory as well. That is more obvious on the four door models.

Absolutely beautiful. This car is literally 'Rolling Art'. Imagine having that back in the 50s. :) You would be the envy of everyone. Thank you for sharing Lou.
Hi Russell, High praise :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
