Wow Nikki! You've been keeping busy with all you beautiful projects! Live them all. And the colors you chose for your Jennifer Steingass cardigan... perfection!! It's going to be so so pretty! Also loved all the info on the monarchs. I heard last week too that they were now on the endangered list. 😢 I hope that they can persevere! It was a joy to spend some knit time with you (in my camper with the AC on lol). Cheers! 🥰🧶
Nikki, it is great to see Sudbury represented. 🇨🇦 Thank you very much for the shout-out. I am looking forward to seeing your solar dyed yarn. Best wishes from the Cabin
Thank you for the kind mention Nikki. This was another very enjoyable episode. I like the Berry Picking tee, had not seen that one. Another summer knit for the list! Now if I could just stop casting on winter knits - ha! Your Samphrey is going to be lovely. I am very interested to see how your solar dyeing turns out. I have found Avocado tricky, going to talk about that I’m my next episode, I will definitely check out the referenced Cabin Boy Knits episode. 🧶
Ohhh the Daffodil pattern is so intricate - and so pretty! And I love that you're using your Mom's leftover yarn for your colour work sweater. Can't wait to see the finished WIPs! Love you podcast, and thank you so much for the bag review! So happy that you like it!
Nikki so good to catch up with you and all your beautiful projects 😊 Please don’t give up on the Bressay dress keep going it looks beautiful I would love to knit a dress maybe for next year. Thanks for running the Marie Wallin Mal again I am hoping to finish the Peony. I love watching butterflies 🦋 in summer we had lots this year.
Those Marie Wallin patterns are so gorgeous... Don't think I have the patience for a garment but I keep wanting to make a colorwork pillow with handspun scraps.
Your Daffodil, Nikki! It is the prettiest! I'm inspired by everything plants that you showed, and loved hearing about your Monarch family. Yes to the dress. It will look amazing, even if that stocking stitch takes years! Think snow. You can do it! ❤ p.s. That is the most beautiful pea ;-)
Thank-you so very much for all your kind words Venessa 🥰 I will give the dress some more thought (goodness knows I have time with all that stockinette on tiny needles 😂). Hope you are having a lovely weekend filled with lots of making 🤗💕
Oh thank-you Alexandra! 🥰 You literally made me blush with your kind comment--it means so much to me! I hope we will see your lovely face again soon on your podcast 🤗💕
Nikki I think the Bressay would look fabulous as a tunic and you could also wear it over jeans 😉 The Daffodil is looking beautiful too. I am so envious of the Hummingbird! I would so love to be there sitting close by with my 500mm lens waiting for a Hummingbird shot 😊 I loved to hear about the Monarch’s, I once watched a doco about them and it was fascinating.
Thanks for the kind words Bern 🥰 I'll bet you would've been able to get the most gorgeous shots of that hummingbird with your camera. Nature never ceases to amaze 🤗💕
Nikki, I loved this episode. Your woes with the ferns and the ingenious solution that you have devised cracks me up. Looking forward to seeing it. Just wanted to say, the colourway Sumac looks gorgeous on you. I wish you the very best gardening mojo. I have tomatoes, green chillies, and some water apple growing in my garden, so I know the expectant trepidation. Cheers.
Thank-you so much for your kind words Shreyashi 🥰 I hadn't heard of "water apple" before so had to google it. Thanks for sharing and wishing you a bountiful harvest! 🤗💕
Noooo, don't give up on your Bressay dress! Think about it - you can wear it in autumn with black tights, boots and a cardigan over your shoulders 😁 I wish I lived closer to you so you could send it over and I'd finish the stockinette section for you, I love stockinette 😂What works for me with the ChiaoGoo needles is actually to use two T pins - there are holes on the needles as well as the cables, so I put a pin in each and this gives me a better leverage to tighten the screw 😊 Good luck with your steeked cardigan! I'll be soon casting on my first steeked garment, so I'm getting a little nervous 😆
Haha...although the image you've conjured up of an outfit for the dress is certainly cute, I'm just not sure about how much I'll wear it as a dress...I'll have to rhink about it as I still have plenty of time given all the stockinette on 2.75 mm needles I have ahead of me 😂 Thanks for the advice on the use of the T-pins...maybe I've just been tightening wrong this whole time! Can't wait to see your steeked garment!! Honestly, I'm not as concerned about the actual steeking as I am about creating a garment that fits properly lol. 🤞 Hope you're having a lovely weekend Magda 🤗💕
All your projects are so beautiful, can't wait to see them all. Love them all. It will be so much fun to see how your yarn turns out 😍 a thousand hugs 🤗
Thank you for hosting another year of Marie Wallin, I might actually finish the Chestnut 🙂 I am impressed by the amount of big projects on small needles that you have going, and oh! the danger of watching podcasts, now I want a Daffodil as well. It is very pretty. I loved your colour choice for the Treysta and enjoyed the sections about dyeing yarn and wildlife in your country. Congratulation on your first peas!! It is a miracle how a small seed you pop into the ground can turn into a big plant with food on it 🙂 I learned a couple of years ago (watching the podcast Allotment diary) that you can sow peas very close to each other and grow a lot in a small space. If you do not eat them all - try saving some seeds for next year. I find that my own seeds sprout a lot better than store-bought seeds.
Thank-you for the kind words Inger 🥰 You will absolutely get your beautiful Chestnut done--you're so close and it will be so lovely to wear in Autumn and Winter. Then you know the group will be encouraging you to cast on another MW pattern and before you know it you'll also be knitting several large projects on tiny needles 😂 Growing plants from seeds never ceases to amaze me 😊 Thank-you so much for the pea suggestions--I really have so much to learn about gardening! Hope you're having a lovely weekend 🤗💕
I really love finding a podcaster from Canada. I enjoy seeing your beautiful projects. They inspire me. I aspire to be a more meticulous knitter but I think I have to accept the fact that I'm not so meticulous. But I still love making the projects. I want to make a lot of projects that look interesting but are not necessarily my style to wear. What to do? I've concluded that the making is more important than the wearing. :)
Welcome and thank-you for the kind words Angela 🥰 I think that's one of the beauties of crafting--we can do whatever it is that brings us joy! And what I especially love about knitting is that it's constantly a learning experience whether it be trying a new stitch, construction method, technique or project in general. And sharing all this joy and knowledge with other like-minded people is simply the best! Happy Making 🤗💕
That color looks so good on you. Coral is the best 🤩. Don’t give up on your dress! You’ve come so far, it’ll be done before you know it. One of my favorite knit dresses/tunics was such a slog but I loved wearing the crap out of it when I lived in a colder climate. Look up the still light tunic if you decide to mod it.
Great knits Nikki!! And I love your knitted fern! I had no luck with solar dyeing with carrot tops but recently got an amazing ochre in a pot with onion skins. Look forward to seeing your solar experiments
The colour of Daffodil is just gorgeous, and the fabric looks very light and airy, will be such a dream to wear! Please don’t give up on the Bressay dress! Although you think it’s not going to get lots of wear but it would make a beautiful between seasons transition garment. I am sure at some point you want a break from Daffodil and Samphrey, and this will be a perfect project for it!
Your fern is brilliant and I love the idea of making one even though my crochet skills are limited. (Granny squares !) I too think your dress would look good as a tunic. It’s a lovely pattern.Solar dying looks good for a hot country but we get mainly rain or clouds 😂I have tried dyeing with avocados but had to boil the bath over three days before adding the yarn ! Good luck though and I look forward to seeing your results.
Thanks so much Ann 🥰 The fern pattern is not complicated at all. I have very limited crochet experience so if I can do it, I'm sure anyone can. It's almost all slip stitches with some chain stitches 😉 3 days of boiling for your avocadoes! Guess my jar's definitely going to need more time in the sun...perhaps by end of summer it'll be done 😂 Happy Making 🤗💕
Aw Nikki I'm so pleased you're having another MW mal. I'm planning on finally knitting the Yell cardigan that I so loved a few years ago. To knit it with MW pals would be fab. It will take me a long time and I'm hoping to have it for next autumn so a year of friendship through it will undoubtedly keep me going. I hope my brain can cope! I adore your podcast Nikki. Xx
So happy to have you join us Michelle 🥰 I can honestly say having an intentionally long-term project on my needles has been a pleasure. Enjoying each and evey stitch in a slow and mindful way has been such a joy, which has only been increased by the lovely people knitting/crocheting alongside 😊. Can't wait to see your Yell and thank-you for the kind words 🤗💕
hello, I am so glad there will be another year of mw mal 'cause you inspired me to make the Chestnut. I've already got the yarn (rowan felted tweed) and I'm planning to start it in autumn, now is defenitely too hot 🌞🌞🌞. I enjoyed to see your wips and fo's (love the tee you are wearing!)
Always enjoy your podcasts and super excited to see you are trying solar dyeing - I am also giving it a go for the first time after watching Jannes’ Finnish knitting stories podcast. I’m trying red onion skins, calendula and coreopsis Happy knitting!
Thank-you Jeanette 🥰 Lovely to hear that you're also trying some solar dyeing! It's such a fun and exciting experiment and in the end we (hopefully) end up with something beautiful but regardless, it will be a learning experience 😊 Happy Making 🤗💕
my chiagoos were literally coming loose just as I was watching you talk about it 😅 I really enjoy your podcast, you seem like a lovely person. and I'm absolutely loving the color palette for your treysta!!
I’m so happy when I get a notification that you have a new podcast. Thank you for another great episode! I love your candour and passion for everything you do. The heat last week really was terrible; no knitting for me either. I’m in Sturgeon Falls.
Oh thank-you so much for the kind words Krista! You are too sweet 🥰 Sturgeon Falls--We are practically neighbours! 😊 I hope you're finding some relief in this heat and manage to sneak in a few stitches. Happy Making 🤗💕
Oh man, I am cracking up because I am the SSAAMMMEEEE with plants! Outdoors I have a super green thumb. Inside, I'm the planty Angel of Death. It's so bad. 🤣
Hi Nikki, Great podcast! Love the fern crochet project. Are you going to paint your terracotta pot? It's really fun to do and another rabbit hole to fall into 🙂 All your projects are so challenging. I agree with you that the dress could easily be changed into a tunic or even a longish sweater; you'd get much more wear out of it, unless you're a regular dress wearer. Do you intend to wear a long-sleeved shirt underneath to wear in winter? Take care!
Thank-you for the kind words Dominique 🥰 I think I will leave the pot unpainted as I love the look and colour of terra cotta 😊 Still need to think a bit more about the dress/tunic... Wearing a long-sleeve shirt underneath would certainly be a great option for autumn/winter! Thanks for the suggestion and Happy Making! 🤗💕
I'm glad WIPs are included in the new MW MAL... lord knows I need that. 😂🤣😂 Beautiful podcast and progress on your WIPs. I enjoyed the portion on the migratory creatures. I''ve heard the hummingbirds had issues this year and the population is down. I'm trying my best to feed them along their journey.
😂🤣 You crack me up Amanda! I'm sure you'll have at least 3 MWs off your needles before I can even get 1 😂 Thank-you for the kind words and it's lovely to hear that you're helping the Hummingbirds out 🤗💕
That top looks great on you! I am loving all your makes and also think the bressay would look great as a tunic and you may get more use out of it. Thanks for the update on your monarchs...it was a sad week to hear they are now officially listed on the endangered species list🤐 your solution for your tendency to kill your indoor plants is hilarious
Thanks Mom! You have good taste in knits 😂 Thought you'd get a kick out of my fern plans...Next time I'll try to remember to tell the "murder of my sister" story 🤣
Hi Linda. Camilla Valley Farm www.camillavalleyfarm.com carries the entire line of Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift and DK and is located in Canada. Word of warning, their website isn't the greatest but the customer service is good 😊
Hi Nikki, I have enjoyed your podcasts and admire your projects. I’ve considered casting on a MW project for some time. I wonder if might be able to help me with some info. I have some Holst Supersoft and would like to use this wool in my project. The pattern calls for Jameison’s Shetland Spindrift (I have never seen it in person). Would you be able to compare the two, are they similar etcetera? I’m sorry if you have answered this in the past I can look there. Thanks for any help you can give.
Hello and thank-you for your kind words 🥰 I am currently knitting with both the Supersoft and Shetland Spindrift and can say that the Supersoft is thinner and "crunchier" but I've been told it blooms considerably with washing and softens up as well. To be honest I haven't washed the yarn yet so can't tell you how different the gauge will be from the Spindrift (I'm also knitting one project with cables and lace and the other with colourwork so can't really compare there either). I would highly recommend doing a proper gauge swatch with the Supersoft (i.e. knitting a sizeable swath and washing/blocking) to see if you can get close to the gauge the pattern with the Spindrift calls for. I find I tend to knit way looser than Marie does so I've had to go down several needle sizes or adjust the pattern size. Not sure if any of this is helpful, but if you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask 😊💕
@@KnittingWithCatHair Nikki thank you for taking the time to respond so fully. I will continue watching to see the results of these projects and possibly if you find the yarns comparable after washing. Maybe it is fortunate that I tend to be a tight knitter lolI really love the complexity of colour in the Holst. You mentioned that as you disproved the sweetpea colour way. Again thanks
Go for the Bressay tunic ... you'll get more wear out of it than a dress. It is so pretty, it'd be a pity for it to languish as an unworn dress. Lovely knits, lovely episode, thanks.
All your knitting is so beautiful. You are very inspiring. I love birds too. There is a UA-cam channel called, Bird Nerd. It is wonderful. She just did a podcast on the behavior of cooling and sunning. There us a lot more going on than cooling. Enjoyed your podcast 😊
Thank-you so much for the kind words Kim 🥰 I will definitely check out the "Bird Nerd" channel as it sounds intriguing. Nature's so amazing! Happy Making 🤗💕
I love watching your podcasts. I am not a big colourwork knitter, but baby steps. Have you considered knitting the Alvi? It's the pattern that is the focus of the #inspiredbyellenkal starting September 1. I too find some days my mind just isn't on my knitting, and I spend most of the day on my phone. Then I chastise myself for not knitting! 😥 Anyway, we have a small milkweed and a small butterfly bush, hopefully they will attract monarchs in future years. We have to do what we can for them. It's no wonder their numbers are diminishing with all the violent storms. On a slight side note, we did see a chipping Sparrow pick off a moth in mid flight, and had it for a snack. I think that was okay though, I don't have much use for moths, except for being food for birds. 🤣
Thanks Marg 🥰 The Alvi is a lovely pattern! I'm looking forward to following along with the KAL, although I won't be participating as I just have too many other colourwork projects on the needles already and another planned for Sep. 1st. I can attest to the fact that colourwork can become addictive 😂 Best of luck with your milkweed! I definitely need to plant more in my garden as the 4 Monarch caterpillars we had demolished our plants (they even ended up eating the flower buds). That must've been neat to see the Chipping Sparrow catching it's dinner. Nature's amazing 🤗💕
@@KnittingWithCatHair I feel the same regarding too many wips. I have 3 projects planned for Joji Locatelli's Fall KAL, but it's 3 months long. There is always hope. 🥰 I feel the same about the milkweed. If or when the Monarch caterpillars take to it, it will be gone! What were we thinking, buying one plant?!? 🤪😅🤣
I loved everything you had to share Nikki, very fun!
Thanks so much Nancy! Happy Making 🥰
Love your podcasts. They are always so interesting and informative.
Thank-you so much for the kind words Jennifer 🥰 Happy Making 🤗💕
Lovely makes as usual! Thanks for another episode! Rosie

Congratulations on the win

Thanks for the kind words 🥰 I'll have to give my plans for the Bressay some more thought lol. Happy Making 🤗💕
Add a tsp of bi-carb (baking soda) to your avocado water.
Thanks for the tip! What does the baking soda do?
I found it helps by making the water a little more alkaline and encouraging the break down of pips and skins so they release more colour.
Oh wonderful! Thanks for explaining 🥰
My concern with a knitted dress is that I’d wear through the bum because I sit a lot!
Yes!! This is a serious concern for me as well 😂
Haha bum wear!
