You are so amazing at colorwork Nikki😍. Your Samphrey will be amazing. Your daffodil will also be so beautiful🤩😍. So fun to see the bird life in your garden🥰. Hope you and your family had a great weekend💞
Such beautiful WIPs Nikki! Your turquoise summer knit looks Fabulous on you too. When i did some solar dyeing I put my jars in foil trays so the sun would reflect back up and around the jars…i think it helped. Just remember if you love the colour you see in the jar, the yarn is wet and it will dry lighter 👍🏼 Have a great time visiting your mom and step dad 💓
Hi Nikki! Just finished binge watching all of your videos, your knitting is beautiful and I love your stories with your mom! It's been decided - this is the year I am going to do a full colour work Marie Wallin knit for your knit a long! 😊
So excited to follow along with your steeked cardigan conversion. I've been wondering for the longest time how to add steeks - especially armhole steeks. And I agree - I couldn't tell that you switched needle sizes on your Samphrey! And I'm also lol'ing at the yarn sniffing - yay I'm not crazy! 🤣
The short row stitches that Magda mention are meant to provide a rounded lengthening of the bottom of the sweater. The short rows under the colourwork you are talking about might be to provide bust shaping but that's just a guess
Hello lovely Nikki all your projects look beautiful 🤩 I have just purchased the Ranunculus pattern and planning to make a summer version 😊 I need to get back to my Peony so I can wear it during the warmer months.
Thank-you sweet Sylvia 🥰 You're going to love the Ranunculus! It's soooo wearable and is a quick and fun knit! Your Peony is beautiful and I can't wait to see more of it 🤗💕
Try working with nutiden single stranded. I starting working with unspun single stranded after “knitting a good yarn” encouraged me and it has worked out just fine and wasn’t too difficult.
You could try popping the jars in the oven (regular oven) on the lowest heat and without the lids screwed on tight enough to build up pressure inside. But I haven't had much luck with natural dyeing. For the ranunculus, you could do a little swatch with the single strand on the big needles to see if it feels good to you? That nutiden color is so beautiful.
Also knitting a sweater with the shorter rows at the bottom of the colourwork yoke as well. Essential with my garment otherwise the back will be out of shape (will ride up as too short) Definitely gives the necessary blending for the human body for a rounded yoke style. Top ones make the back neck higher and the bottom ones cater for the back itself. Hope that makes sense. 🌹
I haven't knit with my Nutiden yet....I imagine it is very similar to Plotulopi?...or is it more fragile? I knit my TULC cardigan with one strand of Plotulopi and I love the fabric it made.
Hi Sandra 🥰 I would say a single strand of Nutiden is definitely more fragile than a single strand of Plotulopi but each Nutiden colour varies in it's thickness, so some are more fragile than others. I think I'll do a swatch with 1 strand and see how it goes 🤞
You are so good with all that colourwork! I’m thinking the cuffs might be nice, but you may have had enough between all your other colourwork patterns 😁 I’m looking forward to see what changes might occur in your solar dyeing. It’s a method I’ve never tried! Xx
Hi Susan 🥰 So lovely to hear from you! I agree, the colourwork on the cuffs would probably be enough. Looking forward to watching your recent podcast episode shortly🤗💕
As I happen to hear in an another podcast the short rows after the yoke have the same function as the one on the neck, just a designer free will depending on the type of shaping. My last project for example had some short rows on the neck and some after the yoke (Calla of Valentina Cosciani). The designer of that pattern said us we could omit the one of the yoke if we don't need to heighten the back much. She, herself, has a little "hunchback" so she needs more hight on the back (gosh, I hope I have written everything well). I have also recently bought Nutiden and I'm planning to knit the Rununculus, my intention was to use one strand...I will see ..
Found your podcast last episode and I love it!! I recently finished a pieced alpaca mohair sweater. I thought keeping it pieced would help give it some extra structure to what I know now will be a stretchy fabric. Think deep stash! Can't wait to steek my first garment! I am learning a lot from you, thanks!
Thank-you for the kind words Gayle 🥰 Yes, I've heard the ame thing, that seaming provides more structure to garments so it's especially useful for fibres that tend to stretch (e.g. alpaca, cotton etc.) Good luck with your steeking!! 🤗💕
Indecisive paralysis! Love that - that’s me too. I’m new to Nutiden and am very interested in seeing how your Ranunculus develops. I swatched with two strands. I prefer the weight and drape of the single strand. The double was lovely but super dense. I’m looking forward to leaning what you think. On Marie Wallin, I love my Bressay sweater and would love to cast on another of her patterns - indecisive paralysis 😂
Hi Julie 😊 The one thing I would say about Nutiden is that each colour can be different in terms of yarn thickness. I am also quite a loose knitter so the fabric I'm getting holding 2 strands of my Nutiden together on US 9 (5.5 mm) needles is quite nice and just ever-so-slightly see-through. Because of the differences between Nutiden colours I definitely think it's one of those yarns that requires swatching to find a preferred fabric. Do you already have a particular pattern in mind for your Nutiden? Bressay is beautiful! I definitely want to make that one at some point. You should absolutely cast on another Marie Wallin pattern! And if you can't decide, there's always the option of placing names in a hat and simply leaving it up to fate (I've totally done that before!) 😂
@@KnittingWithCatHair Yes! I’m swatching Vagen Hem - Nutiden for Fields of Gold by Isabella Clark Hundred Acre Wool. The pattern calls for holding double, but I’ve actually swatched single and have 19 sts for 4 inches instead of the pattern gauge of 17… soooo I’m thinking I could select a larger size than I would normally knit. I love the fabric and color when I hold the Nutiden single. I’ve knit Plotulopi single - the Nutiden is definitely delicate, light single. My hope is that it might work.
Lovely podcast. The Samphrey is coming along nicely. I think I will need a short colour work break after the Chestnut 🥴Maybe a Felix pullover or a No frills, something simple in one colour. I might convert the Samphrey to a knit in the round raglan construction. I do not really feel like knitting colour work flat for a while. I love you christmas socks. The kids will appreciate them no matter the age 😅 I once knitted on a sweater for my first nephew and finished 10 years later and gave it to my last niece by an other sibling....
Thank-you Inger 🥰 I completely understand your need for a palate-cleanser project after spending so much time working on your beautiful Chestnut. I feel like my Treysta cardigan provides a nice break from my Samphrey. I look forward to seeing your converted sweater when you get to it 🤗💕
Haha I'm glad I'm not the only one confused about the short rows 🤣 The ones I was talking about were just above the bottom ribbing, so I assumed they were ment to make the back longer, but who knows - I omitted them so I'll never know 🤷🏻♀️🤣 Anyway, it looks like we'll be steeking our cardigans at the same time, cause I've just separated for sleeves as well 🙌
@@KnittingWithCatHair hehe potentially, but my cardi is made in a fingering yarn, plus the colourwork section actually starts below the yoke, so I'm going to slow down significantly now 😂. I do want to leave the sleeves for after I've steeked, though!
I love your color work sweaters. Both are coming along beautifully! I’m working on a stocking for my daughter as well. She’s out of the house, but she still needs a stocking right?
Thanks so much Darlene 🥰 And yes, you're so right--regardless of whether our kids are at home or out of the house they still need stockings for Christmas! 🤗💕
Wonderful! And are you planning on holding the yarn single or double? I've knit double and triple with Nutiden now so I think I'm going to try knitting single. I'll do a swatch first though to be sure 🤗💕
@@KnittingWithCatHair I would like to try knitting it with Nutiden held single since it’s warm here. But if I don’t like how it looks in the gauge swatch, I’ll hold it double.
It looks like you used dried avocados and not fresh one. That will make a big difference. Also your water quality. Bitter to try well water or some water from a lake. My advise is dump out what you have and start a new.
Thanks Sunny. The avocado pits & skins were actually frozen (I followed a tutorial by Cabinboy Knits). But yes, I've heard water type can make a huge difference. Next time I will try distilled water 🤗💕
You are so amazing at colorwork Nikki😍. Your Samphrey will be amazing. Your daffodil will also be so beautiful🤩😍. So fun to see the bird life in your garden🥰. Hope you and your family had a great weekend💞
Thanks so much sweet Emilia 🥰 Hope you had a lovely weekend as well 🤗💕

You have inspired me with the nutiden ranunculus idea! Of course I already have other yarn specifically for a ranunculus……
Well clearly the solution is to make 2! 🤣💕
@@KnittingWithCatHair oh. I’m sorry. CLEARLY you haven’t seen my queue 😆
