Yay for a steep learning curve. You must be a natural spinner. The picture you painted of children running and playing with spindles in nature is so lovely.
Hello Nikki, You look splendid sitting in the midst of that pallet of browns, creams, and cats! I love the gentle look of your Bright Feather. It must feel so soft. Your skating party story brought back my favourite Winnipeg memories. ❤ Fingers crossed for good news about your job.
A Knitters famous last words..."I figure it will be okay" 😂 Right? Beautiful projects and I'm so, so excited about your spinning!!! Lisa is just the best, so much spindle information! The 13th birthday skate sounds like it was so fun, the flood not so much. And yes, up and down weather here, too
Such a lovely episode from start to finish! I have so many Jennifer Steingass patterns in my faves and haven't knit one yet. Love yours! Also inspired by your Night Shift using Noro. Genius idea! You are rocking the spindle spinning. I tried a Turkish Spindle and we didn't bond, let's just put it that way. LOL. Hope knit night was fun!
Awww thanks sweet Leanne 😘 I've knit a few Jenn Steingass patterns and they have turned out quite nice. I'd really like to try knitting a colourwork pattern by Jennifer Beale at some point (bonus that she's a Canadian designer). Funny you mention a Turkish spindle as several people have been recommending I give that type a try 😂
Hi, my name is Kate and I'm a native Shetlander. Good for you for throwing yourself into spinning with the drop spindle. That's how I started and I wasn't as good as you for sure but thank you because you have totally given me the appetite to get stuck into it again! I have also tried an Ashford spinning wheel which I absolutely love, but I only had it on loan. I am SO looking forward to seeing your next endeavours! Love the jumper you had on today. You are a very nice knitter. 'Speak' soon x
Your spinning is lovely! I love seeing peoples' very first spins next to their second because there's always visible improvement. I love what you said about the head space you need for spinning. I got my first drop spindle a month after my youngest was born and I was in the depths of PPD. Spinning required me to focus and slow down to the point that you could literally see when I'd been spinning throughout the day on my smart watch stress tracker. It really saved me until I was able to get on medication at the dose I needed. Of course, I now have quite a collection of spindles and 2 secondhand spinning wheels. I don't spin as much as I did when my son was tiny, but I love it so much!
Nikki, your Daffodil is just exquisite. I love your idea of wearing it over a linen dress! Can’t wait to see what you decide about the sleeve length. Every time you show your Marie Wallin projects lately, it’s making me want to swatch for a new one… maybe soon!
Love your video. The sweater you were wearing with Nutiden is wonderful. I just received my first order of nutiden and am planning a project. I am happy to see you've jumped into spinning. I started on a wheel and love it. I am currently spinning a sweater quantity of yak/silk blend to pair with a mohair for the ranunculus. I also do a bit of drop spindling but haven't done enough to have enough to use. It is a goal though. I am a weaver and I am working toward wheel spinning singles strong enough for warping. So much to learn in all fibers things. Thnx for sharing your progress and I look forward to see your spinning journey.
Thank-you Elizabeth 🤗 Nutiden is delightful! Your handspun Ranunculus sounds like it will be so lovely 😍 I ordered my sock blockers from MlynJedrow on Etsy: www.etsy.com/ca/shop/MlynJedrow and yes, I did make the crocheted blanket behind me, although there's not really a pattern but more-so a tutorial for how to make the individual hexagons by Lucy of Attic24 on Ravelry. Links can be found on my Ravelry project page: www.ravelry.com/projects/CatHairKnitting/hexagon-how-to Happy Making 🤗💕
Your Brightfeather is simply stunning! I do like the Henley you've just started too. I am looking forward to seeing your spinning as it progresses. Memo to self ... look into ordering a drop spindle!
You are making such great progress in your spinning! I think I made yarn like your first one for my first few spins, but you are moving along quite well! 👏🤗
Thank-you so much Susan! I honestly had no I idea I'd love spinning so much. So thankful for all the inspiration from you and others that finally pushed me to give it a try. Now I've really fallen down the rabbit-hole with a year-long breed study fibre subscription 😂 There's no turning back now! 🤗💕

Hi Nikki! As always love all your projects! Your first hand-spun looks exactly like my first hand-spun. 😄 If you'll keep spinning, I would recommend trying out a Turkish spindle. It's my absolute favourite, as you get a neat centre-pull ball that you can directly ply from. Warm hugs from cold Finland! ❤

I've just started spinning with a spindle 2 months ago! I'm really enjoying it, and agree that Corriedale is really nice to start with for spinning. I personally think I would like to get an espinner at some point down the road to use for certain spins where I want the end prodcut quickly or a larger quantity. However, I am enjoying the process of spinning on the drop spindle right now.
Hi Nikki! It's been a little while since I posted on your videos - great to see your latest make in person - the Brightfeather looks so pretty!! Especially with the sun (which I know can play a little havoc with your podcast lighting) but I love how it shows the wonderful glow of that Nutiden wool. Also don't know if you've gotten the result of your interview yet - hope it goes as you want it to!! Such a bummer to basically have to re-qualify / prove yourself, for something that you've been doing for quite a while already... arghhhh I can understand it would be so irritating... the results of your work would, you would think, be proof of your capabilities, but anyway, best of luck for it. Also saw the Tom Kitten cake you made in last time's podcast - it is sooo wonderful! Loved the ears... might have been the pieces that I would have wanted to eat first, just poking up like that, lol. Anyway, Cheers, and have a lovely rest of the week, Judith 💜
Just throwing it out there… the Daffodil will be glorious no matter what you choose to do! Buuuut… maybe you could pick up the stitches above the ribbing & re-knit the ribbing separately, then graft the elongated ribbing to the body of the sweater? I saw a gal do that with her sock tube cuff, so the same principal could apply to a sweater, right? 😅
I really enjoy your podcast and seeing your beautiful projects. You mentioned that you decreased 20 stitches on the sleeves of your sweater. I need to decrease the diameter of my sweater and I wondered if you could tell me how you went about doing that. I would appreciate it! Thank you! Cindy
Thanks Cindy! For my sleeves I simply started decreasing right away and did it every 5th round (instead of every 11th round the pattern called for) and I decreased down to 50 sts (instead of the 70 sts the pattern called for). Hope this helps! 🤗💕

Thank-you so much Judith 🥰 I'm absolutely living in my Brightfeather 😂
Just throwing it out there… the Daffodil will be glorious no matter what you choose to do! Buuuut… maybe you could pick up the stitches above the ribbing & re-knit the ribbing separately, then graft the elongated ribbing to the body of the sweater? I saw a gal do that with her sock tube cuff, so the same principal could apply to a sweater, right? 😅
Thanks for the suggestion Sarah! I'll probably end up taking the easy route on this one and just leave it as is 😂💕
I really enjoy your podcast and seeing your beautiful projects.
@@KnittingWithCatHair Thank you so much! I really appreciate your help! Cindy
