this reminds me when i worked at vauxhall dealer in the 80s we could do 5th gear exactly the same but you could change the whole gearbox in30 mins ,or a clutch 40mins how backwards has car technology gone . now you have to take the whole bell housing off ,but i got around that problem to save a lot or time as you do when on bonus you get cylinder head bolts cut the head off remove top two bolts and replace with long x cylinder head bolts this allows you to just slide box back enough to change clutch assembly thus not taking box out but supporting it in place .45min job book time was 2.5hr wish you could still do jobs like this but manufacture make things difficult for no other reason but to make money

Suzuki used be similar in that you could get into the box through the end & fix stuff in situ. The nut holding 5th cog on used come loose, leaving 5th shonky - you could buy 'em cheap like that, pop off the cover, loctite the nut back tight & she'd be minty.
I first done this on a Toyota Corolla around 30 years. It was my own car and I couldn’t afford a complete gearbox. So needs must and all that, but it was just as easily done. We are showing our age now 😬😬😬
@@kennedysgarage3281 Sheik"you know who" sent us a landrover today - nowhere here would touch it, it was going to get shipped to the UK for repairs. Top spec jeep, but with running gear issues - interior is like the Ritz. They sent a driver & a manager to deliver it & see were we legit. Manager spies an identical but less posh disco poking out of our smaller workshop - walks in for a look. I've the entire back end cut out of that one, fuel system all gone, axle off, drives disconnected, suspension chucked aside... "Ok..You know what you're doing" he goes - lol - they booked their jeep in for repairs. We may be older, but we can still swing the lead.:-) How long is the list of stuff they want replaced on their vehicle? All the long. Few want the hardship - I quite like it, it keeps me entertained. The easy stuff would bore me silly.
The 5th gear on my van works ok but I seem to have a lot of play in the gear stick when it's in 5th gear also iv got an annoying rattle coming from the gearbox but goes away when I press the clutch. My question is if that syncro is worn or the nut loose would it rattle around?
Absolutely correct Damien, 5th gear is really the only one that l’d tackle. I not confident enough to do it as a paid job for a customer. Possibly on a gearbox belonging to myself. It just meant I’d save time on this one 🙂👍👍👍
A lot of the things I do are more about me saving time & being as efficient as possible. Try to be as productive as possible in a day 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️ But it inevitably trickles down to it being faster & cheaper for the customer which is a good thing 😉👍👍👍

Nice work Peter saved yourself a lot of time there and the customer some money. Kept thinking I could smell the old gear oil while I was watching 😂😂
Probably right Kevin, the rest of the box could kick its heels soon, but hopefully it lasts a year or 2 🤞🤞

@@seansmyth5172 the 5 gear was out of a 12 Peugeot Partner 1.6 hdi if that is any help 🤞🤞
