- How to Troll for Hybrid Bass, Striped Bass and Spotted Bass with Umbrella Rigs or Alabama Rigs (A-Rigs) behind Planer Boards in the Fall. We go out Fishing on Moss Lake in North Carolina Trolling with Planer Boards and Umbrella Rigs searching for Hybrid Bass. We also tried some crank bait action, but the Captain Mack's Mini Mack Umbrella Rig stole the show! The Planer Boards from B-Kat Boards did a great job as well.

Great video! I noticed you had 999 subs so I decided to make it 1k for ya! Keep up the great videos!
Thanks so much William!
Great way to troll for Stripers!! I have some buddies over on SC that do the same thing!! That double up on the A-Rig was awesome!!
We'll use Sabinki rigs to catch White Perch for bait when we go over to Lake Wylie in SC and when you get two or more on the line, it feels like you hauling in a monster!!😁
Really enjoyed watching you and your son fishing and look forward to more to come!!👊👊👊
Thanks so much for the comments and the Sub! We plan on going after some cats on Wylie in the future as well I’ll check out some of your videos
Great video man! Really been enjoying your videos, and I’m learning some new techniques that we can start to use on our waters. Keep them coming!
Thanks a bunch buddy. We are learning everyweek trying to get better with both our Fishing and our content delivery here on youtube. So i really appreciate the comments!
You guys are doing a great job and the videos are enjoyable to watch. Looking forward to your next upload
Nice video, been wandering about trolling umbrella rigs. We use planer boards for catfish but wanted to start going for hybrids. Lose those bait clickers though 🤣😂🤣
Great video buddy
Thanks buddy
Good video, what boat are you fishing out of, and how do you like it? I'm looking to get a bay boat, looking at a sea hunt. How far back do you go from planers
Hey Buddy, I’m fishing out of a Wellcraft 221 Tournament. So far I love it. I bought it used with only 86 hours on it. It’s a 2016. Distance behind the planner boards is dictated by my speed and target depth, just like trolling straight behind the boat. If your at .5-1 mph you will drop down about 5 more feet than your target depth so to fish 25 ft ill be 30-35 ft out then attach my planer board. At faster speeds like 1.5 and up it takes a lot more line out to still get the depth like maybe 100-150ft out. Thanks for the support
@@merceroutdoors thanks for the reply and Info. I fish norman as well but haven't really trolled for hybrids and I want to learn.....good start! Any tips
Learning the depth curves for different baits at different speeds is the biggest learning curve I guess, and buy a umbrella rig retrieval tool! Lol
It gets expensive leaving them on the bottom of the lake lol
@@merceroutdoors i never knew one existed but will get one for sure...appreciate it bro
@@ManningTheOutdoors captain Mack’s has them on their website
Great video! Thanks!
What month? What year?
Thanks Joe! that was back at the end of september i believe of this year.
Great videos, what kind of boat is that?
+Southern Wind Outdoors thanks!
It is a wellcraft 221 tournament. Measures about 23’. Thanks for the support!
Can you explain how much line and what kind of line you use? Also how much line you put out before using the planar boards for what depth?
Sure, so right now I’m using lead core on my main lines out the back.
I’m using 20lb mono on my planer board lines with up to 2oz trolling weight or inline sinker on the rigs to get them to depth (around 20-25ft) is what I’m looking for now. Then let out 60-90 feet, then attach planer boards and let out another 30-50 ft or however far away from the boat you want to spread. This is all based on 1.2-1.5 mph . As u adjust speed everything changes so keep that in mind
@@merceroutdoors thank you
I'm trying to learn a new way of fishing and learning how to fish in general. Thanks for all the information
2oz trolling weight would mean that your jigheads are at least 3/8oz ?
Great video .. why planer boards? I troll and throw on schools of stripers but no planer boards
Would like to get the miny umbrella set ups thou
I don’t always use the planers but I enjoy them when the lakes aren’t too crowded, you can cover a lot more water while trolling width wise. I can be in 30 plus foot of water at the boat running a drop off ledge and still pull baits right down the bank in shallow water at the same time. Great search tool! Thanks for watching!
How much line between umbrella rig and planning board.
How deep are you trying to get your lures?
What are the planer board thingies? B-KAT Boards...?? Is there a Left and a Right or is each one capable of being either left or right? That's convenient... doesn't say on the web site.
They are basically steerable floats that spread your lines out to get a wider spread down the lake. Usually we run multiple boards out both sides the boat once boat tragic dies down
Traffic not tragic lol
Gary yes they can be set up left or right depending on which side you install the rod
How fast were u trolling
+@williamarnold1963 typically between 1.5-1.7 mph
What kind curly tail it is that ?
It’s from Captain Mack’s they call it their “A-Rig Grubs” on the website
@@merceroutdoors tnx sir
Good videos but please turn those clickers off.
Thanks man, yea working on that.. watch some more recent videos you will be proud! Thanks for watching
Turn off the clicker, please
Great job with the fishing. However, there is nothing more annoying for me personally, than listening to a clicker constantly while someone is fighting a fish. Almost as bad as that chalkboard scratching sound. 😖
+Joe Fish Thanks for eat Joe! We will work on that lol
+MERCER OUTDOORS not sure what happened with that response lol, was trying to type thanks for watching lol
