That visor is sexy.....I obviously need a Simrad deal for the catfish world.....LOL!! It's really amazing that you take the time to share what you share....very few like you in the striper world.
Mike, thanks for the great video. I like how you show the locations, not because I'm going to go fish those spots, but because I like to plot them and then think about why those fish might have been there under those conditions. Why might you choose to troll artificials vs stopping and jigging? I first thought it might be because the fish were scattered, but it looked like you were marking groups of fish that would be good enough to jig over. And for those asking, the trolling speed is right on the sonar screen - 3.5 mph.
Great comment. You’re correct. Those schools were on separate groups and tight enough to jig. One thing I want to see before stopping and jigging on a tight school is what they are relating to. When they are relating to baitfish I will switch to jigging. When they relate to something on the bottom like rocks I will switch to jigging. When they are just “there” and relating to nothing but water temp I usually keep trolling. I want them to stay put while jigging Hope that makes sense!! Thanks for your continued support!! The few hardcore fishermen like yourself is what keeps my channel running 👍👍🙏🙏🙏
Ha! I mentioned him twice in the last video since we used planer boards. I put his link in the descriptions of this one and the last 3 Lake videos👍👍. Good job lookin out brother!
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS Yeah, I think we Beta tested those boards in saltwater for Spanish a couple years ago. Definitely unique! Glad you are out there getting it done! Wish I could fish half as much as you and Steve!
@@dannyneihart1821 ah. Cool. I saw some video a while back striper fishing that river. If I remember correctly it had good numbers of fish. Size wasn’t great, but said it was improving.
Right now the system is full of smaller fish. Hopefully by fall the size will increase. Alot of the bigger fish are still down in San Francisco bay but they eventually make their way into the river system.@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
Thanks brother!! It’s Pro spec. It’s excellent but expensive. Was the best mono I ever used until I tested mono made by Reaction Tackle. I started working with them since I liked it so much. The price is insane. $10 for 500 yards amzn.to/44OcsXY of 30#. Their braid is awesome too with killer low price. It’s on all of my casting and jigging reels. I’m always looking for affordable options for any gear we use because everyone has a different budget. This line proves just how much of the price is because of all the marketing with big name brands. I have been very pleased with this line for 3 years now. I’d love to hear your opinion on the mono especially. You won’t believe how soft it is. Love it! amzn.to/44OcsXY Affiliate Link to mono.
Ha. Good luck on that one😜😜. That lake eats gear. Make’s summer a tricky time to troll there. I do know a few guys that keep routes and journals, but even that’s not fool proof.
We have several lakes that have over 100ft. The thermocline sets up at around 25ft-30ft down. we fish in or above the thermocline because below it is usually oxygen deprived. When we use live Shad we can tell where the thermocline is by dropping bait down at different depths. After 10-15 minutes we pull lines in and check the bait. If your bait is dead, you set it below the thermocline and it suffocated.

How deep is the water system you fish in? We normally catch in 60’+ in the lake. Sometimes 200’
