wow I just wanna say thank you to everyone that downloaded my Sci Alpha Maps Pack vol 1! I just felt like it was time that I could give back to a community, Grant Abbitt was so kind to let me share it with you all. I hope they serve you all well, and don't worry I'll be updating it as I make more for my own projects (making these alpha maps has almost become an addiction XD)
Should be a good series. I'm looking forward to the second & mainly third video as I like to make my own brushes for things should I need them. A suggestion for a possible 4th vid or appended to the last may be an application example. Lots of people ask about which brushes I use when drawing and are puzzled when I say I mainly use default brushes for most things (as if the magic lies in the special brush packs people make?) so once I figure out where & how best to use the defaults in Blender, it would be nice to see working examples of how best to impliment these texture brushes, to give us inspiration for future more advanced sculpts. (like the skin texture on the demo figure you did this week). Thanks again Grant.
Thx. For the video. (Figured it out, not sure what I was doing wrong) Off topic. I'm having trouble switching between active cameras in 2.8. I have a camera that's location keys setup. I'd like to use a second camera to render the scene in a different location.
Hm, so despite being called "Alphas" they don't have an alpha channel with transparency? Is that a typical difference between using brush textures and brush masks in Blender? I have a bunch of Photoshop brushes that use transparency instead of black and white and I've been meaning to learn what I can and can't use those for in Blender. I'm looking forward to those other few videos you mentioned about this subject.
yes they kind of operate like an alpha by using the black as such. So the black does nothing just like an alpha. I think that's the thinking but yes no alpha channel :)
For the use of PS-brushes just open a new square document (I use 1024 x 1024 or 512 x 512 pixels). You can use a black background if you remember that step while making the new file. I tend to forget that and just throw in a black layer and lock it. Then for every brush I do a new transparent layer. Pick the brush you want to use and white paint with 100% opacity and flow. Just click once, don't move the cursor while clicking. Save the file as png or jpeg, then hide the layer and make another for the next brush and repeat the steps for every brush you want for blender. Some PS brushes work well, others don't because they have not enough grey values and give you only harsh edges. If that happens I convert the brushlayer to a smart object and try a soft gaussian blur as smart filter, then save again and try in blender if that helped. Or use Materialize as Grant is showing in the other video :-) I haven't tried that, but it looks really easy and useful. But often I don't want the blur everywhere, the smart filter gives me the option to paint away the filter where I don't want it. The smart filter has a mask that is filled with white and therefor shows the filter everywhere. clicking the mask icon and painting with black hides the filter where I paint.

@@grabbitt Ah cool. Because I was looking at building a workstation as I had to work on my laptop with a 960m. I tried to make a dog once but trimming and brushing the weight-painted hair was a nightmare. Say if you were to make something very fluffy, how'd you go about doing it?
