Not just his plans of getting rid of Simba or knocking Mufasa off the throne, but becoming king. *”There’s more to being king than getting your way all the time.”* ~ Mufasa 1994 It’s obvious Scar wanted power and when he finally got it, he just complained a lot and pushed problems on others (including the hyenas). Even if Scar was given the idea to get rid of his brother and nephew, he shouldn’t have blamed the hyenas. A true king wouldn’t blame others, but rather address & fix the problem that goes on in the kingdom. In the words of Hopper (from A Bug’s Life): *”First rule of leadership, everything is your fault!”* I have quite a few questions on Scar: 1.) If he wanted to be king so bad, why didn’t he just go start his own pride? 🤷♀️ What was stopping him from doing that? That’s something he could have done. Just saying. 2.) Did Scar only want to become king to get attention or be acknowledged by the pride? I have a feeling that Scar was looked down a lot by others or even neglected and just wanted to be noticed. The only way to get others respect was to become king. 3.) Was there a reason Scar had Zazu locked up? I’m wondering if this had anything to do with Scar knocking out Zazu during the stampede. I’m guessing Scar feared that Zazu would tell the pride what happened and he locked up Zazu to keep him quiet. Anyways, great work on this. I hope you do more videos like this. 😁

1.: If he could have, he probably would have. I suspect, and it is implied, that Scar was a capable fighter, just didn't see himself having a chance against anyone strong and experienced like Mufasa. Heck, he didn't even face Simba before he knew he secured an edge. 2.: Possibly. Why shouldn't he be king? After all, he is the smartest among them all, and Mufasa was just born lucky. Why should he NOT be king? He DESERVES to be king. He MUST be king. 3.: He was annoyed by Zazu before. Maybe he just had enough of Zazu reminding him of his royal duties all the time.

I relate to this so much, Because a few times i have argued that while Scar killed Mufasa it techincally wasn't his idea to do so. Because sure Scar thought of HOW to kill Mufasa, but the Hyenas were the ones who suggested killing him making it their idea which is why every time i see the part where Scar tells Simba that killing Mufasa was the hyenas idea, it makes me think "Technically that was not a lie."
Exactly. He wanted to kill/get rid of Mufasa but he was kinda making it up as he went along and seemed to get inspired by the hyenas. I'm sure he was the one that came up with the stampede idea and other stuff. But he didn't plan on having to deal the death blow.

It's amazing...I basically made this same argument in a comment on a Lion King Theory video years ago; Scar effectively had to keep his claws clean in order to pull off this coupe - otherwise it wouldn't be legitimate. See, even though the characters are _Lions,_ they still exhibit a lot of human behaviors, traits and customs. Their concept of Kings and Kingdoms seems to reflect a lot of human-based standards. Therefore, one concept that could be shared is the "Sanctity of Royal Blood." Effectively it's a concept that a Royal must always be pure and proper all their lives to have the blessings of the divine power - in this case, being _nature itself._ Therefore, a member of the royal family cannot _directly_ do anything immoral - like killing a Family Member. The loophole is, they could get away with _indirectly_ doing it, by delegating the deed to someone else. Plus, Scar ultimately knew he couldn't take-out Mufasa in a direct confrontation, so he had to use what he was good at; his cunning. So there Scar is, playing the "concerned Uncle" there to "help" his brother rescue his "dear" nephew. His plan is working, both Mufasa and Simba are down there, and Zazu has been taken-out. But much to his surprise, Mufasa has gotten Simba out - a minor set-back; his plan can still work. But even more unbelievable, Mufasa leaps from the stampede and is now scaling the cliff. And Scar can't believe it; his scheme is isn't working; his big brother actually _is_ strong enough to pull himself and his son to safety and escape this... So now Scar is at the crossroads. Standing over his brother, he is now the arbiter of both their fates. You're right; he does hesitate. His hesitation on whether or not it is now worth it to continue. Should he save his brother and try again later? How could he? After this, his brother will be even more cautious, and worse, Simba could easily reveal the deception that brought him down there. No...he has gone too far to turn back now. _He has to finish it himself._ Scar bloodies his claws, and while the adrenaline might shock him at first, he can't deny that he's _enjoying it._ _"Long...Live...the King..."_

I saw it and liked it! I do think what he tells Banzi “no fool we’re going to kill him, and Simba to.” Throws a wrench into the idea that he didn’t intend to kill his brother. I think it would be more fitting to think that he didn’t want to kill anyone by his own hands, (Both as a way to admonish any personal guilt and to keep himself looking like a saint in everything) I think another thing to cap on is scar’s ability to manipulate others, including himself. As seen by the madness of king scar song “I tell myself I’m fine. Yes I am! No you’re not! Yes I am! No you’re not!” He really likes justifying things, even to his more sensible side. So yeah. Good stuff over all. Hope future videos are equally as good.

Finally up, I was worried it never get up with all the setbacks. But up it is and wonderful was it. MatPat might have some real competition here. And I mean that this was brilliantly put together and well thought. It puts forward a new idea without betraying what the characters are or what they were suppose to be in the film. I think it fits wonderfully into canon. I think it's fair to dd opportunistic to his resume as a villian.
After reading a lot of fanfic, I came to this conclusion: no one is born evil. Originally, Scar just wanted to be respected and honoured by his pride as much as his big brother Mufasa. The desire for power and respect slowly hardened his soul. Once he took the throne, he naturally tried to breed offspring. His first choice was his childhood sweetheart Serafina. She gave birth to a son, Mheetu 'the white prince' (because he was born with a snow-white fur coat), but he - like his sister Nala - ran away. Soon afterwards he met Zira and they soon found common ground. The new couple's first child was a boy, but unfortunately he was born weak and skinny, he is Nuka. They tried for a long time, but most of their cubs were born sickly and died soon after, except for one small lioness, Vitani.
And I disagree with you some are born evil and some are made, so is actually both for example Kludd from Guardians of Ga’hoole he wasborn evil and Brokenstar/tail was born evil from birth, both were born evil. So in this case anyone is either born evil or made evil no offense but that’s just fact people need to understand 🥰
That is true Scar didn't plan to kill Mufasa in quite the way he ended up doing it and it wasn't exactly Banzai's idea and here's why You see The Lion Guard proves that Scar had an attempt before the first movie at killing Mufasa as he ordered his guard to kill him when they refused he killed them instead which resulted in him losing the Roar Of The Elders However since the first movie came out years before The Lion Guard it's safe to assume this piece of information wasn't how it was originally in the movie as it is clearly shown his first plot to kill Mufasa was after Banzai gave him the idea
Thanks for the comment! :) I chose to use ONLY the 1994 movie for my theory and analysis, so your follow up to your point is accurate. :) The Lion Guard didn't exist as an idea in-universe until 2014 - 20 years after The Lion King's original release. Even so, my point still stands that Scar didn't want to do the dirty work and kill Mufasa by his own claws (and wanted someone else to be the killers while Scar arranged/asked for it). It also is safe to assume Scar wanted to kill Mufasa before but perhaps gave up after failed attempts and opted to wait his turn to be king after Mufasa died or stepped down. Until Simba was born (and he failed to get Simba killed.) But because the 1994 movie doesn't say this anywhere, we can only guess and speculate.
The idea that Scar did not always plan to kill Mufasa in the way he did is very intriguing. On my most recent rewatch I also couldn't ignore that Scar happened to be on the same side of the gorge as Mufasa when Mufasa got back on the walls, somehow knew where to go, and found the safest route to be on the ledge above him. I feel like that involves a lot of luck, like for example, what if Mufasa climbed back onto the opposite side? What if he ended up latching on to a section of the gorge that is much easier to climb up?
I love how, at any moment, the pride, or ANYONE in the Pridelands could just . . look for the bodies (to pay respects, if were suspicious at all, etc.) NOT see Simbas' body and question it. Scar told everyone they BOTH died in the stampede, that's easy enough to check. A bird / vulture never flew over, saw only one body and went, 'wasn't there supposed to be a cub, too?'

Ohhhh theories are fun! I do remember you telling me about your theory that Sarabi and Mufasa had Simba at an older age, so I do feel that this was legit. I wonder how the line "decades of denial" fits into the theory in the Be Prepared sound track? I think it's clear he doesn't see the hyenas as friends or even equals, but a means to an end. The hyenas may think differently (at least in the original TLK...in the remake it's a different story...) but Scar knows they've been starving in the Graveyard/Outlands for a long time. Individuals can make desperate decisions if they're starving. Honestly I'm not even sure if Scar originally planned on killing Simba when he was first born. Sure he didn't care for Simba being born and it's obvious he was jealous, but I think things had to be set in motion for him to come to that conclusion, and we don't see what happened between Simba's birth and presentation to the moment Scar sent the cubs to the graveyard. I do think Scar had some amount of self doubt at some point in his life. He projects that self doubt on others out of insecurity "everyone else sees me as inferior, so I'm going to see everyone else as inferior" and the whole "I wouldn't dream of challenging you" somehow I think he did challenge Mufasa at some point, and that's how he got his Scar (the 2019 movie hints at such, but I think it could easily be translated into the original as well if you look at their interactions) but I don't think prior to Simba's birth that this conflict goes beyond rivalry. Mufasa certainly does trust Scar enough to be around Simba, as does Sarabi or they wouldn't let Simba near him, and Scar is allowed to stay in the pridelands, but it's clear their interactions are tense. But having a rivalry and plotting to kill are two way different things. ^^; Excellent theory. I think I agree with most of it.
As far as I'm concerned "decades of denial" is a purely lyrical choice to mean "I've been denied [my destiny to be king] for a very long time" and is not meant to be taken literally - as many Disney lyrics often are. In fact, a few translations of the song don't include the allusion to "decades" at all - the German version for example - and instead translate that line into "many years" or "a long time" to whatever fits lyrically for the language. There's also the line "coup of the *century*" - which does appear in some form in other translations alongside the English original - which could imply that these animals measure time in a way similar to ours... but their "decades", "centuries", etc. might be different lengths than we have, given that animals' lifespans are different that humans'. Time measurements are a construct after all. XD The point on the hyenas is noted for sure. It's implied in the original TLK that the hyenas were likely hunting for fun or overhunting (they do toy with Simba and Nala before trying to kill them, implying also that they take pleasure in this - if they were truly starving, they'd maybe just... go for it?), but a concrete reason for why the hyenas are exiled from the Pridelands is a mystery within the context of the movie. I don't think it's an accident that Scar waited until it was possible to get Simba to get into a situation to get himself killed. Scar, as per my video's thesis, seems to not want to kill anyone himself/directly. Thanks! ^^ Even if you agree or don't agree, I hope it was entertaining.
@@Nala15-Artist Good points. I suppose it depends on the context of how you want to interpret the lyrics, and how you want to view the animal characters in general. While the animals in this movie are more animal like than say, Sonic who appears somewhat human like, Simba, Nala, Timon, Pumbaa, the Pridelanders, etc. all have human emotions, desires and needs. Scar is no different. So I see the lifespans being more human like for that reason but that's the fun of headcanon; no one headcanon is right or wrong, it's all based on one's personal interpretation of the characters. I enjoy the variety of theories in this fandom and different interpretations. As for the hyenas, I've always interpreted the hyenas being in exile for that reason (hunting for sport) and living in the Outlands where food is scarce being a consequence of their actions. To be fair though, hyenas don't really need to hunt like other predators do since their jaws can crunch through bones and eat the bone marrow, they could potentially survive off animals that are already dead and live as scavengers. Something tells me they weren't content to live as mere scavengers. Even if TLG is taken with a grain of salt (and I know you do) they did point out that hyenas could live off "leftovers" and there are plenty of bones in that elephant grave yard. An elephant that goes there to die could probably easily feed the whole clan for a while, and there were tons of hyenas in the graveyard. Realistically if they were starving, how come there's so many of them that look healthy in that dance performance? Unfortunately we may not know for sure why the hyenas were exiled...maybe they were never welcome to begin with? Lions and hyenas are natural enemies. Another TLG point of view...take it as you will (again, I know how you feel about TLG), but while Jasiri might get along with Kion, but she doesn't want him living in her territory, he's still a lion after all. She even said so! But there is of course...the "human element" of it as well (as I stated above, the characters have human feelings and emotions that would otherwise be foreign to real lions, and they have human concepts of inheritance, like the King's first born son is next in line for the throne) Maybe banning the hyenas is a form of "racism" in the pridelands? One can certainly speculate. We do see hyenas toying with the cubs at first which can be considered sadistic...but then again...I've watched how cats hunt...they toy with their prey...so perhaps the hyenas are less "civilized" than the pridelanders? I dunno. Maybe we're thinking too much into it? And I agree it was entertaining for sure! I probably will agree to disagree on some accounts, but I agree on many points you brought up and you did bring up some good points for sure!
The saddest thing on why Scar ended up so callous was that it was purely caused by his own family. His original name was Taka, which translates to "trash, garbage", and although he became leader of the lion guard he was often treated flippantly by his own team and family. He was alone when he met up with the lion that caused him to get his poisoned scar and instead of Mufasa being concerned over his brother's injury he just gave him the nickname of "Scar". Driven into madness by the poison and feeling the utter disregard he received from those closest to him it turned him into the villain we all know.
Eh... most of that I feel is speculation. Sound speculation, but not a lot of solid proof. TLG isn't exactly hard canon in TLK lore (at least in my opinion) and Scar (if that was his real fire ghost) is a pathological liar - I'd take his story told to a snake with a grain of salt.

We actually don't know what Mufasa and Scar's parents (except maybe their dad) looked like as there are no official designs or art of them at this time. The only things of that nature that exist are fan works. In my story "Betrothed" I have my own ideas about Scar and Mufasa's parentage, but I digress. :)
My theory, in the case of Mufasa and Sarabi were older parents when Simba was born, is that them had a litter before, of three cubs: Malkia, born a bit before than her siblings, so she was tecnically the firstborn, even her name means "Queen", the followed born was Mlezi, wich name means "Guardian", as secondborn, he would be blessed as leader of the lion guard and the third was Zumarid, her name means "Emerald" because her eyes were emerald-green (like uncle scar's). When the cubs grew a little, having around the same age as Simba in his youth, Scar formuled a plan to get rid of them secretelly, and as the same way he did with Simba, he told about the elephant graveyard, wich desperted the cubs curiosity and them gone explore there (note: Mlezi didn't had yet the roar of the elders), but, unlike Simba and Nala's case, neither Zazu or Mufasa were aware of the triplets presence at the graveyard, so them unfortunally meet their demise by the hyenas.
I enjoyed your breakdown on this theory and learned a few things. Was wondering what your theories of Scar’s scar before Lion Guard have us the answer as well as how did you feel about that origin of how he got scarred. (I personally hate the Lion Guard explanation on Scar’s scar)

Scar has few back ground one from lion guard witch think is more canon now then original back story of the two brothers not sure about lion guard but in other book Scar was shown to be very mistreated and neglected by their father to point he staged fight at water hole to get attention it failed how he got his Scar I think that or his own father gave it to him so he villan born from scorn neglect and mistreatment he's my favorite villan
I got some thing to ask is what a bout zazu wasn't he a eye witness and why build a jail cell in your bed room wear you keep someone that can tell on you unless zazu was at fault to for leveling the king and the prince in the Prince the time of need
Scar knocks Zazu unconscious before Scar does anything that can be considered evil. It's implied that Zazu doesn't know/remember enough to tell anyone about what Scar did as Zazu is not caged when Scar tells the lionesses about Mufasa's death. Zazu is caged later in, what I and many others assume, a way that keeps Zazu from flying away to look for help. Looking for help is what Nala eventually does.

@@daviddillon4827 As far as the movie was concerned, Scar was almost always alone in that cave with Zazu in the cage near Scar. We only ever see the hyenas come in to complain, and Scar yells at the hyenas to get out almost as soon as they come in. And Scar goes OUT of the cave to yell at Sarabi later. It's almost like Scar is isolating himself because he's paranoid. And he's doing so with the only "living witness" to the stampede. Even if Zazu didn't remember why he went unconscious, Scar was indeed paranoid. Zazu was in that cage in the cave with Scar SO Scar could keep an eye on him. And if Zazu ever said anything Scar didn't like, Zazu could have an "accident" with hungry hyenas. And if anyone (the lionesses) asked questions, Scar would just blame it on the lionesses for not keeping the hyenas fed well enough. But Scar won't kill Zazu himself. (In spite of the scene at the beginning of the movie where Scar snatches Zazu in his mouth, Scar seemingly was just playing in a twisted way.) Interesting, hmmm?

I'm sure he did, but I think Scar needed a little "shove" to get motivation and inspiration on HOW to do it. And joking or not, I could see Banzai "giving" Scar said inspiration - even if it was by accident. Simba in comparison to Mufasa is an easy target. Might be one reason why Scar wanted to just get rid of Simba first and not bother with Mufasa. So by using Simba as bait in the stampede, Scar hoped to have the wildebeest kill them both in the "accident". As much as/if Scar wanted to kill Mufasa, it would have been a tall order.

See, even though the characters are _Lions,_ they still exhibit a lot of human behaviors, traits and customs. Their concept of Kings and Kingdoms seems to reflect a lot of human-based standards. Therefore, one concept that could be shared is the "Sanctity of Royal Blood."
Effectively it's a concept that a Royal must always be pure and proper all their lives to have the blessings of the divine power - in this case, being _nature itself._ Therefore, a member of the royal family cannot _directly_ do anything immoral - like killing a Family Member. The loophole is, they could get away with _indirectly_ doing it, by delegating the deed to someone else.
Plus, Scar ultimately knew he couldn't take-out Mufasa in a direct confrontation, so he had to use what he was good at; his cunning.
So there Scar is, playing the "concerned Uncle" there to "help" his brother rescue his "dear" nephew. His plan is working, both Mufasa and Simba are down there, and Zazu has been taken-out.
But much to his surprise, Mufasa has gotten Simba out - a minor set-back; his plan can still work. But even more unbelievable, Mufasa leaps from the stampede and is now scaling the cliff. And Scar can't believe it; his scheme is isn't working; his big brother actually _is_ strong enough to pull himself and his son to safety and escape this...
So now Scar is at the crossroads. Standing over his brother, he is now the arbiter of both their fates. You're right; he does hesitate. His hesitation on whether or not it is now worth it to continue. Should he save his brother and try again later? How could he? After this, his brother will be even more cautious, and worse, Simba could easily reveal the deception that brought him down there. No...he has gone too far to turn back now. _He has to finish it himself._
Scar bloodies his claws, and while the adrenaline might shock him at first, he can't deny that he's _enjoying it._

I saw it and liked it! I do think what he tells Banzi “no fool we’re going to kill him, and Simba to.” Throws a wrench into the idea that he didn’t intend to kill his brother. I think it would be more fitting to think that he didn’t want to kill anyone by his own hands, (Both as a way to admonish any personal guilt and to keep himself looking like a saint in everything)
I think another thing to cap on is scar’s ability to manipulate others, including himself. As seen by the madness of king scar song “I tell myself I’m fine. Yes I am! No you’re not! Yes I am! No you’re not!” He really likes justifying things, even to his more sensible side.
So yeah. Good stuff over all. Hope future videos are equally as good.

Finally up, I was worried it never get up with all the setbacks. But up it is and wonderful was it. MatPat might have some real competition here. And I mean that this was brilliantly put together and well thought. It puts forward a new idea without betraying what the characters are or what they were suppose to be in the film. I think it fits wonderfully into canon. I think it's fair to dd opportunistic to his resume as a villian.

After reading a lot of fanfic, I came to this conclusion: no one is born evil.
Originally, Scar just wanted to be respected and honoured by his pride as much as his big brother Mufasa. The desire for power and respect slowly hardened his soul.
Once he took the throne, he naturally tried to breed offspring. His first choice was his childhood sweetheart Serafina. She gave birth to a son, Mheetu 'the white prince' (because he was born with a snow-white fur coat), but he - like his sister Nala - ran away.
Soon afterwards he met Zira and they soon found common ground. The new couple's first child was a boy, but unfortunately he was born weak and skinny, he is Nuka. They tried for a long time, but most of their cubs were born sickly and died soon after, except for one small lioness, Vitani.
That's a lot of fanfiction, all right.
And I disagree with you some are born evil and some are made, so is actually both for example Kludd from Guardians of Ga’hoole he wasborn evil and Brokenstar/tail was born evil from birth, both were born evil. So in this case anyone is either born evil or made evil no offense but that’s just fact people need to understand 🥰
That is true Scar didn't plan to kill Mufasa in quite the way he ended up doing it and it wasn't exactly Banzai's idea and here's why
You see The Lion Guard proves that Scar had an attempt before the first movie at killing Mufasa as he ordered his guard to kill him when they refused he killed them instead which resulted in him losing the Roar Of The Elders
However since the first movie came out years before The Lion Guard it's safe to assume this piece of information wasn't how it was originally in the movie as it is clearly shown his first plot to kill Mufasa was after Banzai gave him the idea
Thanks for the comment! :) I chose to use ONLY the 1994 movie for my theory and analysis, so your follow up to your point is accurate. :) The Lion Guard didn't exist as an idea in-universe until 2014 - 20 years after The Lion King's original release. Even so, my point still stands that Scar didn't want to do the dirty work and kill Mufasa by his own claws (and wanted someone else to be the killers while Scar arranged/asked for it).
It also is safe to assume Scar wanted to kill Mufasa before but perhaps gave up after failed attempts and opted to wait his turn to be king after Mufasa died or stepped down. Until Simba was born (and he failed to get Simba killed.) But because the 1994 movie doesn't say this anywhere, we can only guess and speculate.
The idea that Scar did not always plan to kill Mufasa in the way he did is very intriguing. On my most recent rewatch I also couldn't ignore that Scar happened to be on the same side of the gorge as Mufasa when Mufasa got back on the walls, somehow knew where to go, and found the safest route to be on the ledge above him. I feel like that involves a lot of luck, like for example, what if Mufasa climbed back onto the opposite side? What if he ended up latching on to a section of the gorge that is much easier to climb up?
I love how, at any moment, the pride, or ANYONE in the Pridelands could just . . look for the bodies (to pay respects, if were suspicious at all, etc.) NOT see Simbas' body and question it.
Scar told everyone they BOTH died in the stampede, that's easy enough to check.
A bird / vulture never flew over, saw only one body and went, 'wasn't there supposed to be a cub, too?'
"Simba's body got pummeled to dust by the wildebeest." Easy.

I do remember you telling me about your theory that Sarabi and Mufasa had Simba at an older age, so I do feel that this was legit.
I wonder how the line "decades of denial" fits into the theory in the Be Prepared sound track? I think it's clear he doesn't see the hyenas as friends or even equals, but a means to an end. The hyenas may think differently (at least in the original TLK...in the remake it's a different story...) but Scar knows they've been starving in the Graveyard/Outlands for a long time. Individuals can make desperate decisions if they're starving.
Honestly I'm not even sure if Scar originally planned on killing Simba when he was first born. Sure he didn't care for Simba being born and it's obvious he was jealous, but I think things had to be set in motion for him to come to that conclusion, and we don't see what happened between Simba's birth and presentation to the moment Scar sent the cubs to the graveyard. I do think Scar had some amount of self doubt at some point in his life. He projects that self doubt on others out of insecurity "everyone else sees me as inferior, so I'm going to see everyone else as inferior" and the whole "I wouldn't dream of challenging you" somehow I think he did challenge Mufasa at some point, and that's how he got his Scar (the 2019 movie hints at such, but I think it could easily be translated into the original as well if you look at their interactions) but I don't think prior to Simba's birth that this conflict goes beyond rivalry. Mufasa certainly does trust Scar enough to be around Simba, as does Sarabi or they wouldn't let Simba near him, and Scar is allowed to stay in the pridelands, but it's clear their interactions are tense. But having a rivalry and plotting to kill are two way different things. ^^;
Excellent theory. I think I agree with most of it.
As far as I'm concerned "decades of denial" is a purely lyrical choice to mean "I've been denied [my destiny to be king] for a very long time" and is not meant to be taken literally - as many Disney lyrics often are. In fact, a few translations of the song don't include the allusion to "decades" at all - the German version for example - and instead translate that line into "many years" or "a long time" to whatever fits lyrically for the language. There's also the line "coup of the *century*" - which does appear in some form in other translations alongside the English original - which could imply that these animals measure time in a way similar to ours... but their "decades", "centuries", etc. might be different lengths than we have, given that animals' lifespans are different that humans'. Time measurements are a construct after all. XD
The point on the hyenas is noted for sure. It's implied in the original TLK that the hyenas were likely hunting for fun or overhunting (they do toy with Simba and Nala before trying to kill them, implying also that they take pleasure in this - if they were truly starving, they'd maybe just... go for it?), but a concrete reason for why the hyenas are exiled from the Pridelands is a mystery within the context of the movie.
I don't think it's an accident that Scar waited until it was possible to get Simba to get into a situation to get himself killed. Scar, as per my video's thesis, seems to not want to kill anyone himself/directly.

@@Nala15-Artist Good points. I suppose it depends on the context of how you want to interpret the lyrics, and how you want to view the animal characters in general. While the animals in this movie are more animal like than say, Sonic who appears somewhat human like, Simba, Nala, Timon, Pumbaa, the Pridelanders, etc. all have human emotions, desires and needs. Scar is no different. So I see the lifespans being more human like for that reason but that's the fun of headcanon; no one headcanon is right or wrong, it's all based on one's personal interpretation of the characters. I enjoy the variety of theories in this fandom and different interpretations.
As for the hyenas, I've always interpreted the hyenas being in exile for that reason (hunting for sport) and living in the Outlands where food is scarce being a consequence of their actions. To be fair though, hyenas don't really need to hunt like other predators do since their jaws can crunch through bones and eat the bone marrow, they could potentially survive off animals that are already dead and live as scavengers. Something tells me they weren't content to live as mere scavengers. Even if TLG is taken with a grain of salt (and I know you do) they did point out that hyenas could live off "leftovers" and there are plenty of bones in that elephant grave yard. An elephant that goes there to die could probably easily feed the whole clan for a while, and there were tons of hyenas in the graveyard. Realistically if they were starving, how come there's so many of them that look healthy in that dance performance? Unfortunately we may not know for sure why the hyenas were exiled...maybe they were never welcome to begin with? Lions and hyenas are natural enemies. Another TLG point of view...take it as you will (again, I know how you feel about TLG), but while Jasiri might get along with Kion, but she doesn't want him living in her territory, he's still a lion after all. She even said so! But there is of course...the "human element" of it as well (as I stated above, the characters have human feelings and emotions that would otherwise be foreign to real lions, and they have human concepts of inheritance, like the King's first born son is next in line for the throne) Maybe banning the hyenas is a form of "racism" in the pridelands? One can certainly speculate. We do see hyenas toying with the cubs at first which can be considered sadistic...but then again...I've watched how cats hunt...they toy with their prey...so perhaps the hyenas are less "civilized" than the pridelanders? I dunno. Maybe we're thinking too much into it?
And I agree it was entertaining for sure! I probably will agree to disagree on some accounts, but I agree on many points you brought up and you did bring up some good points for sure!
The saddest thing on why Scar ended up so callous was that it was purely caused by his own family. His original name was Taka, which translates to "trash, garbage", and although he became leader of the lion guard he was often treated flippantly by his own team and family. He was alone when he met up with the lion that caused him to get his poisoned scar and instead of Mufasa being concerned over his brother's injury he just gave him the nickname of "Scar". Driven into madness by the poison and feeling the utter disregard he received from those closest to him it turned him into the villain we all know.
Eh... most of that I feel is speculation. Sound speculation, but not a lot of solid proof. TLG isn't exactly hard canon in TLK lore (at least in my opinion) and Scar (if that was his real fire ghost) is a pathological liar - I'd take his story told to a snake with a grain of salt.
Don't forget, when he first saw adult Simba, he thought it was Mufasa. More reasons to believe he's still haunted by the murder of his brother.

We actually don't know what Mufasa and Scar's parents (except maybe their dad) looked like as there are no official designs or art of them at this time. The only things of that nature that exist are fan works.
In my story "Betrothed" I have my own ideas about Scar and Mufasa's parentage, but I digress. :)

My theory, in the case of Mufasa and Sarabi were older parents when Simba was born, is that them had a litter before, of three cubs: Malkia, born a bit before than her siblings, so she was tecnically the firstborn, even her name means "Queen", the followed born was Mlezi, wich name means "Guardian", as secondborn, he would be blessed as leader of the lion guard and the third was Zumarid, her name means "Emerald" because her eyes were emerald-green (like uncle scar's). When the cubs grew a little, having around the same age as Simba in his youth, Scar formuled a plan to get rid of them secretelly, and as the same way he did with Simba, he told about the elephant graveyard, wich desperted the cubs curiosity and them gone explore there (note: Mlezi didn't had yet the roar of the elders), but, unlike Simba and Nala's case, neither Zazu or Mufasa were aware of the triplets presence at the graveyard, so them unfortunally meet their demise by the hyenas.
interesting idea. Basically, for Scar, it's Simba's fault. By being born, he forced Scar to kill Mufasa.

Scar knocks Zazu unconscious before Scar does anything that can be considered evil. It's implied that Zazu doesn't know/remember enough to tell anyone about what Scar did as Zazu is not caged when Scar tells the lionesses about Mufasa's death. Zazu is caged later in, what I and many others assume, a way that keeps Zazu from flying away to look for help. Looking for help is what Nala eventually does.

@@daviddillon4827 As far as the movie was concerned, Scar was almost always alone in that cave with Zazu in the cage near Scar. We only ever see the hyenas come in to complain, and Scar yells at the hyenas to get out almost as soon as they come in. And Scar goes OUT of the cave to yell at Sarabi later. It's almost like Scar is isolating himself because he's paranoid. And he's doing so with the only "living witness" to the stampede. Even if Zazu didn't remember why he went unconscious, Scar was indeed paranoid. Zazu was in that cage in the cave with Scar SO Scar could keep an eye on him. And if Zazu ever said anything Scar didn't like, Zazu could have an "accident" with hungry hyenas. And if anyone (the lionesses) asked questions, Scar would just blame it on the lionesses for not keeping the hyenas fed well enough. But Scar won't kill Zazu himself. (In spite of the scene at the beginning of the movie where Scar snatches Zazu in his mouth, Scar seemingly was just playing in a twisted way.) Interesting, hmmm?

I'm sure he did, but I think Scar needed a little "shove" to get motivation and inspiration on HOW to do it. And joking or not, I could see Banzai "giving" Scar said inspiration - even if it was by accident. Simba in comparison to Mufasa is an easy target. Might be one reason why Scar wanted to just get rid of Simba first and not bother with Mufasa.
So by using Simba as bait in the stampede, Scar hoped to have the wildebeest kill them both in the "accident". As much as/if Scar wanted to kill Mufasa, it would have been a tall order.
