I've seen Pat Metheny live twice. He is one of the Gods of music. We are on another planet here, who doesn't understand this can't reach the heights of music
Pedro Aznar delivers a great performance in the vocals! 👏He's considered a musical jewel here in Argentina. He plays bass, guitar, piano and writes songs, you definitely should check out his solo career and his work with the band Serú Girán!
Prob best live version I’ve ever heard. Had the honour of being on stage in Chicago playing with Tony Gurerro and Bil Cantos when I was about 19 and Paul came in and sat in. He took no prisoners. I was not prepared for the force of nature the dude is. Man I was on a cloud. Afterward he was ridiculously modest. The animal in him comes out in the music and yet he serves the band first. It’s a real treat to see him in his element with the other masters. Still can’t believe Lyle is gone.
The irony that the better a bass player is at playing exactly in the pocket, the less they stand out - except to those who know. He and Wertico lay the rails for this train.
@@jjsc4396 I agree totally. On top of also being a great bass player, he’s also a great guy. I had a question the time signature during the piano solo part of Beat 70. Listen to the studio version and you will know what I am talking about. Any way, I emailed him and received a reply from him within an hour. He explained what was going on. Stellar! ua-cam.com/video/oGU98hNw41c/v-deo.html
Pedro Aznar deserves a lot more credit in this track for vocals. At @1:16 he holds a note perfectly for a full 3 bars!!! Most people would be out of breath in 2 bars. It's a great song all around, but Pedro really shines in this one.
This is pretty much the only music that produces uncontrollable tears of joy and pleasure. It resonates with your whole being. Maybe because it is scientifically formulated.
For a lot of PMG listeners (including this one), the group reached a peak with this album-“Still Life (Talking)”-and its next, “Letter from Home.” There was still a lot of good music to come, but none of it quite reached the heights of these albums. A lot of fans were upset at Pat for taking longer and longer breaks from the group to pursue his own projects, but even though not all of those projects appealed to me, I respect the man for going his own way, when he could have just continued cashing in with the PMG. (And of course we know now that Lyle’s health was part of the reason that the group didn’t continue its relentless schedule of touring, composing, and recording.)
I have to thank a neighbor up the street from me in Brant Beach, N.J. He was a winter Crew local who played guitar extremely well. I was a solid 1970's progressive rocker, several electronic bands. Gregger introduced me to Watercolors. Then ECM- 1114, then New Chautauqua, and 1982's brilliant Off Ramp and wow Travels. Song X never really hit me... Anyway back to my first PAT gig. It was ECM-1114 tour year 1979 or 1980. Once I learned the playing patterns on the livesetting, your Brain is altered, expanding as you are inundated with high energy, thought provoking Patness! My favorite Pat song is The truth will always be
Armando Marcal my compatriot at the percussion, this is one of my favorite bands of all times, Path blew my mind in 1982 when heard him for the first time!
Seoul Olympic Gymnastics gymnasium in 1995, these guys did this piece exactly the same as what they did on their album, “Still Life Talking” my favorite album of these guys.. Very sad there are no more jazz players like these guys in any part of the world!
Great tune, amazingly classic Pat Meth solo on the first section, w/ the classic chromatic Metheny-esque lines we all know and love, traversing all those chords. And what about the tune's final part? Exhilarating changes, melody and euphoric synth guitar solo bringing it all to at the ultimate climax.
Think abut it: How many songs has Pat M. composed? Several hundred, and add to that: He is an excellent guitarist and a musical leader: In some words: Respect and so much fun, so much trill and surprise, joy and happiness with this - and his band members - music!
Third wind has to be one PMG top songs! Waking up a little bit on the down side? Put on this whole album and you will start singing and dancing!! Thanks Pat for all your music!!
Superbes musiciens et que des moments de bonheur, d'émotions pour se revitaliser , RIP pour Lyle Mays qu'il continue à jouer avec tous ces Lockwood, et bien d'autres au paradis des musiciens quand je viendrai...
A master musician in innovation, composition, technic, improviser, What an incredible band. I have many of their albums since the '90s. This is one of my favorites Third Wind.
Y, larga vida!
Pedro Aznar, one of the greatest voices in Argentina, and a legendary bass player. It feels kinda rare to see him playing just percussions and not making and awesome show playing bass.
Been playing rock drums for 28 years and a PMG fan for 34...this is where schooling comes in...outside of the time signatures can't even begin where to start here with Wertico...
I've never considered his music as Jazz. I call his music, " World Music". Because it reaches so many people in the world 🌎. Just like the artist, ' Seal'. Hard to describe his music as well. I put that same label on his music as well. And so many people from all over the world can relate to these 2 artists. 👍👍
the golden age of one of the best bands in human history
Well said!
I absolutely agree
Ii it
So true!!!!!!!!
absolutely man! absolutely!
I've seen Pat Metheny live twice. He is one of the Gods of music. We are on another planet here, who doesn't understand this can't reach the heights of music
I love the little kids just hangin' out, doin' their thing, enjoying the vibe.
I can't stop falling deeper and deeper in love with Pat's music, 40 years and no end in sight!!!! HELP!!!!!
Me too!
no need for help than!

Seeing this group performing this live was the greatest musical experience of my life
I would pay a extremely high amount of money to see them playing together again. At least I have to meet Pat
I’ve seen Pat in concert nearly a dozen times. Seeing him again this October!
Me too!
Also mine! In 1987 in Italy
Those 2 vocalists backline accompaniment playing percussion horns live could play ping pong back there at same time
Highest peak of Pat Metheny´s Group, golden lineup!!!.
The late 80s early 90s was Pat Metheny Group in the Jazz world 🗺 it was the pinnacle of some of greatest music 🎶! RIP Lyle you are missed.... 😔

Steve Rodby is undoubtedly the greatest in the pocket upright bass player. I was so fortunate to have seen this lineup of players live......
Lucky you!
Eu também. Odeon hammersmith,1985. Primeiro espetáculo que vi na Europa. Puta que pariu!

Pat Metheny: Transgenerational Musical and Intellectual Genius!!
Pedrito Aznar one of the best. I love this lineup

Pedro is so good!
Pedro’s vocals really define this highest era of the Pat Metheny Group. Pure magic
Yes!
Pedro....
That is 12 bars, not that it isn’t a monstrous demonstration of his vocal abilities but
Still feel so sad. R.I.P Lyle
Just wonderful ..., saw them several times live .... man we miss Lyle
Greatest guitarist and pianist together. In all of history.
😣

I'd agree those two are the most memorable albums but I can't imagine PMG without Phase Dance and First Circle.
Speaking of Now and The Way Up are both great.
@@tommywiseau4224 Yes, and I don't mean to denigrate them. I'm very happy to have those albums, especially now that Lyle has left us.
Absolutely Sir David

Brilliant. A guitarist nonpareil and a band of unsurpassed quality.
These guys are bringing the fire with this song. And Pat’s guitar? He is melting that guitar. Amazing artist.

As much as I love the Metheny Group, there’s still some fantastic music out there today…. Just listen to Snarky Puppy
There are most certainly plenty of great players out there who aren’t focused on sounding perfect.
I never saw an off night PMG performance!
The groove at 5'36 rules. Seen Pat solo, PMG and in a myriad of different groups over the last 40 plus years, his music never gets old for me ❤
