Man i love shenmue, best game, i remember playing it on my dreamcast and spending days training my moves in the parking lot next to the arcade, i have the remastered versions now.
'Softimage' was a popular (and one of the firsts really) 3d modelling / animation package for the movie and video game industry. It's pronounced Soft-e-mahj, almost like the first half of Mahjong. The "Shenmue plugin" for it probably means the interface that let them use it closely with the Dreamcast development kit / simulate a Dreamcast like environment right in the animation software for quicker workflows. It inevitably contains chunks of the game itself, but what truly makes Shenmue tick on the final hardware, THE Shenmue engine, is something else.
Really enjoyed this dojo show, especially the tier list, even though I would have done it differently... I mean Baisha shouldn't be there obviously but most crucially Guilin (S2) should be evaluated separately from Bailu (S3). I would even say Sakarugaoka and Dobuita Street should be evaluated separately. Going to the city just feels different from being in your own neighbourhood. Would love more of these. I would upload them separately, too.
Appreciate that Mo! Agree about Guilin being split, that would definitely have changed the order a little! I guess technically Bailu is all part of that chapter so I can see why it was made this way! Thanks so much for listening and glad you enjoyed it :)
Imagine all those sales they lost for not having it on PS2. That's just...madness. Sega made a huge mistake when it limited so many games to XBox back then. So many games are just locked away now and could have had much better sales, especially Shenmue and there would have possibly been less issues getting IPs off the ground again.

Shenmue 4 reveal trailer hopefully this year
Fingers crossed!
Is hope for switch (2) this time... I feel it will be more successful there.. 😁

Great insight! Thank you very much

Get Shenmue 4? Great resolution. I'll not compromise.
Ray tracing means just what it meant before. It's just that some monster GPU hardware emerged that can produce some real-time-ish results now.
The harbour is my favourite place but the clocking off from work and finding stuff out was kind of annoying.

Completely agree
