Auto-updating addons thanks to the new extensions methodology is going to be so nice. Any change to "the norm" is going to upset someone, somewhere. And they will complain. Never fails. The fact that Blender is constantly evolving should be celebrated. It's free software driven forward by a passionate community. That's easier to get behind than bloated software shilled out for a monthly fee. Applications that stagnate as they focus on keeping investors happy and burning their users with ever increasing costs and convoluted EULAs along the way.

@@grahamthomas9319 third party addons not part of the Blender core. Right now I have to manually check to make sure the latest version is installed. And I have a ridiculous number of addons so it's hard to manage.
That is helpful. I have quite a few of those as well. I don’t think those core add on update very often unless they are updating with a new version but the 3rd party ones often update off cycle. It’s annoying to have to check blender market. I am assuming the updating system is set up through blender market? You must register and store them somewhere.
I think a update type system would be better. I really don’t enjoy having to reinstall everything. It means I am always putting off getting the new versions. The ability to have multiple versions is nice though especially when an old add on won’t work with the newest version. I think they need a really solid organization plan, that they can stick to for years to come. Especially since the platform has grown to include so much community created functionality.

Another "let's change something for the sake of changing something, without 0 meaningful improvements" kinda update. Common theme since 4.0. Modifiers, autosmooth, musgrave texture and now addons. Good thing I still have 3.6
It's likely not one designers fault, but otherwise, I agree. They mess too much with established standards, and it's unclear why there is so much recent change in how the UI works.
I guess they want to make the initial install file of Blender lighter, so without shipping a lot of add-ons that most people will never enable. It's just in a different tab, that is all! Click on Install in Extensions, instead of checking "enable" in Add-ons.

No, they didn't. Blender doesn't need a load of bloatware that largely never gets used by anyone always shipping with every version. How often did you ever use B-tracer? Or Real Snow? Or Math Vis Console? Object Color Rules? Geodesic Domes? Snap_Utilities_Line? tinyCAD Mesh Tools? Precision Drawing Tools? Thought so. Now they're offloaded and can all be updated on the fly, rather than only with each new Blender version. It's also centralises and throws open accessibility to a bunch more free addons that otherwise would have languished unknown in some dusty git repo in a remote corner of the internet.
@@Arjjacks Everybody uses addons/plugins. Maybe somebody does not use the ones you named but I am not talking about a particular addon, I am talking about some general things. Blender is not an easy tool to learn. You need time and practice to get used to many features it has. But then suddenly they change something and you have to spend your time to learn those changes. And it is not something new that you have to learn - it is old features but with completely new approach. Did you see a comment from one guy who said that now he has problems with downloading addons due to sanctions imposed to the country where he lives? It is another side of the coin... It is very good when creators think about users of their product. In this case they didn't think much. But you have the right to have your own opinion. My opinion is what I said above. You're talking like they've buried the passkeys to addons in Fort Knox and stacked the perimeter with rocket launchers. The addons that previously shipped with Blender are still in the addons tab, you just open the dropdown that says Missing Addons and install the ones you want again. Takes seconds for each addon. It's slightly tedious to do for them all in 4.2 the first time, but then that's it. It's done. They'll stay downloaded and be updatable the moment there's an update available for each and every one. I did see that guy, and while that is deeply unfortunate, and unjust, since it's not sanctions that blocked him - it'll be his government restricting internet access - that means he's not downloading Blender 4.2 at all, never mind the addons. Not if the website itself is restricted. Blender doesn't sanction any country, nor is its use on any larger body's sanctions list, that'd be absurd and pointless. Blender needs to evolve and change over time. Too many people want to have their cake and eat it too. Can't endlessly complain about Blender not having this or that or not being able to do the same as software x and y, and then also complain when they actually improve on something coz it's different now. Offloading onto the Extensions platform is fundamentally better. It reduces bloat and opens up a goldmine of new addons to be browsed.

I'm not using Line Art modifier in this video, but in my copy of Blender 4.2 the Line Art modifier is just where it should be.
