For a moment I was horrified when I couldn't see the old settings, but thanks to this video I'm very happy! Everything has become much easier, thank you Mr. CGDive ♥
Thanks, Todor, for the overview. As always, you're very thorough and concise! I've seen some of the fancier add-ons implement homebrewed "update" mechanisms. It's great that there's now a standard way to achieve this. Once there are other addon repositories we can register to and we've gone through a few rounds of addon updates, we'll forget how painful and rudimentary the old system was.
Thank you so much, it's much clearer now.I was confused at first and managed to do it.I wish that install from disk was bigger and has a button. As for updates for addons, most of them that I have work such as edgeflow addon but, clean panels pro, wait for the 4.2 update! It instantly crashes blender to the point I had to reinstall completely! 😵💫
I'll welcome Extension with open arms, in age where paid addons plagued blender, we need a platform to open source free add-ons, many people will hated it because they don't understand the long term benefits or they're paid addon developer lol
One of my biggest fears would be paid add-on developers implementing spyware DRM or online DRM into this extension platform. . We do need every Blender plugin to be as free as Blender itself - Its what's ethical and important. There's so many extensions I would support if donationware, but avoid due to paywalls.
@@WannabeMarysue I believe this has already been possible. The allow internet access thing is just the main devs being transparent. "There's so many extensions I would support if donationware, but avoid due to paywalls." Maybe that is you but not the average blender user. Our donationware addons are financially supported by less than 4% of people who download them :)
@@CGDive 4%? that's awesome. would the blendermarket sales metrics look much more beefy if you also factored in gfxfather downloads? paywalls only look beefier than donationware only because those metrics don't include those on the digital high seas. As for DRM, I mean videogame-like DRM. Like Steam or Denuvo. You can research what videogames do for yourself.
I also predict current developers stopping existing add-on updates when this becomes standard in Blender. I seen this happen before and greatly miss the RIP add-ons. I have zero faith in BF to execute a repository due to the failure of ASS browser.
*Here's an idea for a video using AUTO RIG PRO* how to rig a character with different shoes with different height elevation from barefoot to boots to high heels like they do in video games where you can create a female character. So you don't have to make different animations for different shoes.
To update the motion path you need to click the UPDATE button. There is no built-in ghost to view your previous poses during animation. On a weak computer, the rigify rig can slow down while ARP does not. NO BUILT-IN PICKER, either manually turn on the desired layer, or drown in the visual garbage of controllers and geometry. This is what I remember when I do animation in blender. And what do they do? They make two!!! buttons for addons. Well, this is a victory, I think. At this rate, blender will be able to replace SFM in the porn industry at most, something serious will appear only by accident

I don't understand how some people are saying this overcomplicates things, to me it seems like you can do everything like you used to but with a new way of doing things faster and easier. I just don't get people sometimes
It always appears the first time. You must have installed a beta or something before. There is 4.2 folder you can delete and it will be reset to default. It’s under AppData/blender foundation I remember correctly.
Python errors are a part of life with Blender and addons. You have to be specific where it happens. If it's in default Blender, you submit a bug report through the main Blender menu. If it has to do with a specific addon, then you ask the addon developer. Hope this helps.
I am so fed up with the blender design team telling us it's more simple than it was when it isn't. Seriously how simple was it in 4.1 or 4.0 to just click a box for your add on ? really, hands up all those that thought ticking a box was hard & this way is more simple ? FFS blender designers leave things alone.
My argument is blender constantly connected to the internet leaves it vulnerable to cyberattacks. They already suffered a major one.an a not for profit entity this is a major issue for the blender foundation. Given the number of cybersecurity issues and blender’s revenue base it’s a threat to all users long term. while everyone sees this as a benefit having a program tick to turn on network access or not. It’s not safe as anyone in cybersecurity arena knows this can be overridden in background with few lines of code. Not a good scheme for me.
Blender just lets you know that it will officially connect to the internet. It was vulnerable to attacks since before this version like every other software. Nothing much has changed.
What a cluster f**k. Obviously this will become the integrated blendermarket at some point. The token integration will soon only work with an online connection. I already know what they are doing. However I have never seen anything more poorly implemented as the "get extension". Nothing is consistent here. Buggy as hell! Even some of Blender native add-ons functionality is broken. It doesn't even display the installed add-ons properly. Why would you display "installed add-ons" in the "get extensions" section!? It basically eight balled the legacy add-ons section as it is now.
@@CGDive I'm totally relaxed. Just pointing out the obvious. To call this 4.2 LTS is funny tho. That is sub alpha. Changes of this size should be reserved for 5.0. This breaks almost every community add-on. For the first time ever I won't upgrade to Blender 4.2. ;)
Blender has been very clear that internet connection will not be necessary. I don’t have a reason to doubt them about that. Feel free to tell me I told you so if I’m wrong. I’ll do the same :)
