It is, and many single workers do just that here, it isn't expensive even for mexicans.

    • @atorrescano
      @atorrescano 5 років тому +3

It is not as cheap for Mexicans if you consider that the minimum wage is around 8 pesos per hour. A meal of 80 pesos is actually 10 hours of work for many Mexicans.

Amigos, you must try the delicious typical food from Yucatan! You must go to the corner " plazas "y tomar una deliciosa cerveza Montejo, while listening live music, and I don't know if there still exist the bar "La Prosperidad". So enjoy everything in that wonderful city!

First food items I always get in a new town are refried beans, tortillas, cheese, salsa, and some kind of prepared meat like ham, if you have a microwave those will make a decent meal, and OXO usually stocks all. Next are chicken, potatoes or rice and some kind of veg, if you have a pot and stove, easy to prepare...

    Saludos amigos!

Understand Merida is a very mellow place with great architecture and a good size expat population. Not so touristy as other Yucatan spots. Major Mayan temple nearby and several environmentally conscious places to stay.
Speaking of haircuts...Delicately said Greg..Not sure your barber understood your face. Not that you dont look fine and are fine.

Ok, so I ate dinner tonight on the Harry Hines side of town at what was for me, a new (old) little taqueria. I had 3 tacos de barbacoa de borrego, refried beans, and a churro. Yes, it was really good. It's just unfortunate that a simple plate like that costs me $13.00. Sure can't eat cheap here anymore. The barbacoa de borrego had a great flavor, much better than beef. Your apartment/house looks cute with a decent kitchen.

THe Supe ISSTE is a supermarket operating with federal funds, so it is subsidized :) Makes easier for people with low wages or numerous families to cover their basic needs. Or at least it is supposed to help, although it is like putting bandaids to a crack on a massive Dam: it is appreciated, but it will probably not be enough.
Thank you for your videos, love ya!

If you are going to a big supermarket anywhere in Mexico like Walmart / Soriana / Comercial Mexicana / Bodega Aurrera they usually have 1 or 2 days of "fruits and vegetables". In those days (Tuesday, Wed, Thurs depending on the supermarket) one can find a better quality of vegetables and even cheaper. Any other day or the week is a 50/50 chance. There are also fruterías like "La negrita" as a good option for buying that.

no, they´re not... they´re from Progreso first cooked for Carlota when she hit this land by seaship by a motuleño cheff... just like pizzas are not from Italy, but from New York City first made by an italian cheff

If you are here, you should try the tlacoyos from Francisco de montejo, food and drinks from Eladios bar and any of the regional restaurants in the center of the city.
Also, don't forget to visit Puerto Progreso (And the Eladio's bar there).
And the most important thing, visit the ruins of Chichen Itza and Uxmal...and all the Cenotes nearby, you can even go for a nice swim there.
Hope you enjoy your stay here

Bienvenidos a mi ciudad!! Guys, there's a Soriana in 56x63y65, and the main market (Lucas de Galvez) in the 56x65y67. I bet you can buy what you need there, and sure will be cheaper than Walmart. Our food is based on pork, but you can find dishas made of turkey (Pavo en relleno negro, mi amor!!). Go the the cantinas, I recommend "El Cardenal" (63x70 centro) and "La Negrita" (62x49), there you get antojitos yucatecos for free if you order a beer. Sounds like a great plan for a hot day (everyday, basicly). We have beaches that are only 30 minutes away from Merida. Progreso is the nearest and biggest, but definetely not the prettiest. Hope you have the best time in Merida! I'm always proud when the tourist leave faacinated with our culture, food and people!

If you need something 100% yucateco and you haven't been there, be sure to visit the mercado Lucas de Galvez. It's on the 56 street between 65 and 67. Also near that mercado, there's the Piñatas bazar, just ask "¿Dónde es piñatas?" and any local should know.

the market that you visited "ISSTEY" is for workers of the Yucatan government commonly low income people, so there are only cheap products and the basic stuff for the pantry, the most common supermarket is "CHEDRAUI" (even have a select sucursal) or the local store "SUPER AKI" (even have a ecologic check-out), I live in Mérida so if you have questions, just ask.:))

Tomorrow you might want to check out the orquestra sinfonica de Yucatan at the teatro peon contreras at noon. Tickets are on sale the day of and there seems to be availability. Also Paseo de Montejo turns into a walking street and biciruta and dog walk every Sunday. Check it out. Tonight check out La Negrita Cantina on 62nd ST. Glad you're here and I hope i run into you.

You don't have to shop at Walmart. There's a Soriana Super in centro on Calle 56 between 63 and 65. There's an AKI next to it and both are within half a block of the main market so you can get your fruits/veggies at the same time.

Hey guys you have to eat in La Chaya Maya, authentic maya food. Los almendros restaurant is fantastic as well. The cheaper place for shopping is Soriana, kind of Walmart.
