As an industrial sewer for over 25 years, I have to chime in that Alex is a legend. Most people have no idea how cranky and awkward a sewing machine can be ... especially in dusty makeshift conditions. There is no way that you are going to get the result you want in makeshift conditions, and that shows the mettle and skill of Alex to piece together a complex patterning and sewing in less than ideal conditions and a machine you are not familiar with 👏👏👏👏
Alex 100% is a rockstar! Absolutely agree! In normal circumstances this is a big project, but throw in all the rest of the challenges and it was nearly impossible. Alex crushed it!
Go big blue! Brooke in a UK cap for the win!
Big Blue Nation !!!
Go Cats!
Didn't realize we had so many UK fans watching!! 💙🙌
Your resilience in the face of difficulties, all accomplished with a smile and a laugh, needs to be commended. Well done!
Thank you, Laurie! We really appreciate that! 🥰
Love your UK hat--GO CATS!
Hi Carl! 💙💙 Didn't realize we had so many UK fans watching!
@@SailingOneLife BBN is world wide
When you have a chance to draw a breath you'll see it's all been worth it.
Thank you, Charles! That is what we are hoping!
Alex, you can be my canvasman anytime….. well done man. Cheers to you for helping our pals Gary y Brooke. 🍻🤗
Alex is a rockstar! Hugs you two! 🤗
Think many men who have never used a sewing machine, underestimate the complexity of a sewing machine. Guess I was over 40 before I started repairing sails & building covers. Nothing as complex as you all are tackling. It all looks great.
Thanks, Bob! We really appreciate this comment. You are exactly right! Big shout-out to Alex for jumping in head first on this project and tackling all the challenges. Gary and I certainly have a new appreciation for sewing!
All that "glass" in the dodger is going to be hot when the sun hits it! Hope you have some good ventilation.
Haha I'm already calling it our sunroom! It'll be hot but nice and dry during passage!
Hey ya all Awesome job on the dodger n bimini and the bulkhead!! Progress bein made! Fair weather ya all!! Take care!
Thanks, Richard! Wait til ya see the completed enclosure, it's awesome!
@@SailingOneLife cool now I cant wait!! Lol
Interesting video, saying custom canvas work is an art is an understatement, patiently going through each fit and re-fit until it is finished.
Canvas work is extremely tough! So many kudos to Alex! Canvas work in normal conditions is tough let alone on a borrowed machine with a make shift shop!
Delos Sailrite making its rounds
It was so awesome of them to let us borrow their machine!
Hello from beautiful NC! Thanks for sharing the new video.
Hey Scott! Thanks for stopping by to check it out!
Exhaust fan!
Ha yeah thought about that but didn't want all the dust blasting on Brooke and Alex working on our new dodger below!
dodger looks fantastic!
Thanks, Owen! We are super happy with it!
Glad you were able to find Kentucky Blue for your new canvas! Love the video, you guy are inspiring.
Haha! 💙🙌 Thanks for the good vibes, Doug!
Dodger is coming along very nice guys. Good luck with the reminder projects. ❤
Thank you, Jorge! 💙
Damn good job Alex!
Alex is a rock star! 💪💥
Man, what a great job Alex is doing. In real time I am sure you are already back on the water, can't wait to see the end result. I too will be hitting the Chesapeake next week for my journey down to OBX, been a long winter and I am ready to get wet. Look forward to your next video and thanks for keeping us up to date. Ed
Alex is the man! The project turned out fantastic. Happy to hear you will be back on the water soon, Ed! Looking forward to hear how your passage goes!
Congrats you are the best.. Blessings
Thanks, Angel! Really appreciate that! ❤️
Stray Cats strut!! Brooke broke out her UK ball cap! Gary with the V-berth bulkhead and rudder, Brooke and Alex on the Bimini and Dodger, you guys kicked the proverbial!!
Thank you! 🙌💪💙 We made a hell of a team!
Oh, the enclosure will be so nice on passage! I'm excited for you both! I can only imagine how hard and frustrating the sewing must have been. Good going guys!
Thanks, Amy! We will definitely be reaping the rewards of our labor when we are tucked in and dry inside our enclosure during our big passage! Sewing is so hard 😬 so many kudos to Alex!
I have used a old household fan just laying it on hatch negative air flow out helps keep junk out of cabin as providing ventilation good luck just found your site your doing a good job
Hi Jerry! Ha yeah, Gary thought about the fan idea but then realized he'd be showering Alex and I with fiberglass below so he opted against it. 😂
Outstanding, awesome video.
Thanks, Gibb!! 💙
Big projects and all under lots of pressure to finish asap. Hope all goes well.. 🙂
We were all feeling the pressure on this one! So many kudos to Alex for sticking with it!
Man I admire the work put in and dood Alex is a master given the conditions. Bravo Zulu G&B!
Thanks, Brian! Alex is certainly a sewing legend!
W0W! There sure was A LOT of work being done on this one! Congratulations on you achievement's! Your New Dodger is going to keep all kind of wet off ya!
Thank you!! It is going to be so nice to have! We will be nice and cozy in our bubble!
Great video! Do not be afraid of going into more detail of the repairs. I think a lot of us are here to learn.
Thanks, Chris! Really appreciate your feedback!
Great progress, the dodger is looking lovely. :)
Thank you! We can't wait to show you how well the enclosure turned out! 😁
It's great to see your progress.
Thanks, Earl! More to come!
Lucky not at San Carlos, work yard seems to be sketchy. American owner said to be barred from Mexico!
Oh wow, that's too bad. Cabrales in Puerto Penasco is awesome!
Man that sanding is a terrible, sorry you have to do all that 😢You can easily get overheated in all the protective clothing so be cautious.I’ve done that many times so I totally understand .At hot shower with lots of scrubbing with a washcloth and powder on after drying off, especially on your face neck and arms.Good episode 👍👍Love you two can’t wait to see you all back sailing ⛵️ 😍
Thanks, Mark! Yes, poor Gary! He definitely got first dibs on showering at the end of each night! ❤️⛵💪
Love that color of blue. That new dodger will be so nice for you guys to stay dry in a blow. If you can introduce me to Alex, I'll need to know a canvas expert in the near to mid term!
Hi Larry!! Thanks so much for the surprise! We will certainly have a toast on you when we get to the South Pacific. Thank you! We received your email and when we have a bit more time we will sit down and give proper response and provide Alex contact info! Sounds like a heck of a project! Love it!
Glad to see you guys back. Dodger looks great from here.haha
Thanks, Jack! It looks great from here too! We can seeee! 🤩
Great video as usual and most important GREAT JOB building the new dodger. It looks GREAT!
Thank you, Raul! We are super stoked with how it turned out!
Hope Grace is doing better, good video
Thank you, Mark! Really appreciate the good vibes for Grace! ❤️❤️
Cheers to you guys!!! 🍻1st ones in the boat and last to leave!! It all turned out great!! Awesome Job Alex, Brooke, and Gary!!!
Thanks, Big D! 🙌 Best beer delivery man ever!
thats some hard work you guys are pushing through!
here in mobile I love a certain authentic Mexican restaurant that serves beef cheek tacos...omg!
Beef cheek tacos....yum!! Sounds delicious!
Groovy video. It is very eye opening and amazing how much work there is to maintaining an old boat to be sea ready. It is nearly impossible to believe that you two are able to keep up with it all. Bye the bye, incredible Mexican food at the end of this episode. Stay safe and stay groovy.
Hey MA! Yes, quite a bit of work but we are certain the reward will be worth it! So many delicious things to eat in Mexico! We love the food here!
What a lot of work! I hope you're enjoying the fruits of of your labors now. Looking forward to the next episode! :)
Thanks guys! 🥰 I'm sure we will forget all about the long hours spent when we are hiding out inside from wet weather!
WOW! Alex IS a rockstar. He got all of that done in 10 days? I'm super impressed! I'm no pro at sewing - I dabble here and there. One Life's all spiffy clean and ready for her crossing to the Marquesas and beyond! Congratulations!
Alex is a legend! It took me one day just to figure out how to thread the machine! 🤣
🙏🏻...
Thanks, Smee! ❤️🥰
I don't envy grinding fiberglass in the bow of the boat. Not to mention the heat and no air flow. Man that must have sucked. But the dodger and Bamini look great.
Grinding fiberglass is never fun. The dodger and bimini are a great upgrade. Wait until you see the enclosure!
@@SailingOneLife I've never seen a dodger with that much glass. Usually have a 4 to 6 inch cloth between the glass. I really like the openess of it. Much more visibility. I'm surprised that you didn't add flexible solar panels to the Bamini top. You can always add them later. And yeah I can't wait to see the side panels.
@@johnrathbun2943 yeah it's A LOT of glass! Hopefully we don't regret our decision down the road! It was a real pain in the butt sewing-wise. We have hard solar panels on our bimini frame already or else we would have opted for flex panels.
Awesome job guys!! Can’t wait to see it finished!!
We're coming for you, Hannah! 🇳🇿
Yes!!! I’m going traveling soon too! But I’m sure I’ll be home by the time you get here! Maybe I’ll hitch a ride too!
Awesome! Where ya headed?!
Around Europe for a few months. I’ll have to message you and fill you in!
Sounds amazing! Yes, please!
Calico perhaps grace was at the doctors , a setting down queen at the chair , off the stage. If we all don’t set down , we could be on stage 4 out the door .
Lots of good vibes and hugs to Grace! 💗💗
Wow, ALEX , what a worker ! Amazing guy ! Was that Delos's machine ?
Alex is a sewing legend! Yep, Delos let us borrow their machine! Super nice of them!
Rudder- Did you ever figure out where the water got in? Along the shaft (where you hand-sanded?) or just pin holes somewhere? That was an unpleasant surprise, but your works is solid. Keep up the good work. That enclosure looks really good!
We never did find any signs of moisture inside the rudder. There were some signs of a previous repair on the leading edge below the skeg. We think a combination of prior damage, age, and the heat cycling from one side facing the sun cause the delamination while we were away from the boat.
Hi Marc! ....general consensus seems to be stache yay long hair nay.
At 11:44 is that bark blue hull behind you when you are describing lunch, an Ericson 37 or 39? I have an Ericson 37 that I acquired as a project boat so I can relate to all of the fun that you are having in the shipyard. Good decision to remove all of the barrier coat. Good to see you guys doing so well with your projects and that you have good friends as neighbors there.
Nice eye, Ken! That is an Ericson 37!
Your video was a long time coming, but I get it. Are you guys going to buddy boat with Calico?
Hi there! We would love to buddy boat with Calico but unfortunately our plans aren't aligning together this season. We are going to miss Bill and Grace so much but we are certain we will cross paths again one day!
So , are you all buddy boating across the Pacific ? Delos , Calico ?
Hi Jon! We don't have any plans to buddy boat right now but hope to catch up with Delos and Calico somewhere again!
How can I get in touch with Alex? I live in SC and would love for him to do my dodger/Bimini!
He is the BEST! His email address is: brmcanvas@gmail.com if you'd like his phone number please send us an email at sailingonelife@gmail.com...YT won't let me put it in the comments :)
Is beef head better than tongue?
💯! Have you tried tripa??
Alex is ah sew some
Good one! 🪡🧵
Hope you guys don't mind me asking...
How much did your sailboat cost & how much did you spend on provisioning before sailing out of Mexico? Thanks, Wes
Hey Wes! Check out our cost video if your keen! We talk about how much we paid for One Life as well as what we spend on average per month. A quick answer is we purchased One Life for $80,000 but we go into more detail on our video. Cheers!
@@SailingOneLife thanks, love watching !!!❤️⛵️
♥️♥️🥰🥰
Thanks for the love, Frits!
What part of SC is Alex from? I grew up sailing there so I'm curious.
Irmo, SC and his boat is at Windward Point Yacht Club
@@SailingOneLife Ha! That's literally where I grew up sailing. Same club. I used to go to sail camp every summer as a kid.
Small world! So cool!
Probably not healthy either.!
The churros are definitely not healthy but they sure were tasty!
