I would like u all to comment on official Netflix channels to renew " Mindhunter ".
I'm just saying, if that were me I wouldn't have let them in the bunker
Thats why you dont let the main characters enter in because they will obviously cause trouble or get followed by trouble straight into you
Yea, let’s break every security procedure and allow more useless mouths into the place, I could see taking the women in since humanity will need a lot of eggs to even maybe get a stable population going but this movie while being dumb might also have gave a situation that would be impossible to survive for 99.9% of humanity. the more I think about it the more Iam sure of it. Some people really underestimate how much radiation can be blocked by just 10 meters of packed dirt. Plenty of viable "bunkers" (deep underground parking lots, subway stations, etc) around the world capable of taking insane ammounts of radiation.
The problem is a lot of bunkers just... aren't that deep. Most bunkers are relatively shallow as it's quite hard to dig that deep but there's many places that are that deep like metro stations.
@@Treblaine Even if they were 10 meters, that would even block even the radiation from a dirty bomb. There would always be at least some steel and concrete too.
@@SalveMonesvol Well, we're talking about the sun, a star, a massive thermonuclear reactor. There's obviously far more potential for radiation than a bomb which has a comparatively tiny and brief fusion reaction. And most of the radiation from the fallout of nuclear bombs isn't gamma rays.
We just don't know everything about or sun, the only possible reason to doubt our sun is capable of emitting huge amounts of Gamma rays is not that the conditions aren't possible but simply that we don't see other stars in the observable universe suddenly emitting loads of gamma rays.
Well except a Gamma Ray Bursts, but that's when a super-massive star collapses into a black hole, then the gamma ray emissions are incomprehensibly large, so large they're detectable from different galaxies and there's a real fear that if there's a gamma ray burst in our galaxy it would kill all life on earth. Or, all life on one hemisphere of earth.
But stars have capability to release massive amounts of gamma rays, amounts that you'd need to go VERY deep under ground. Which is what's shown in the show, a super-deep bunker.
They should be showing all the leaves on all the trees wilting but not rotting as the gamma rays would also sterilise all bacteria.
@@Treblaine I'll skip asking you if you can imagine what it would take for the sun to output 10X more gamma radiation. Let's go to something simpler: Do you know what an exponential function is? Ok, the gamma radiation halving thickness for packed dirt is just 9cm. Which means that 9 meters of packed dirt would only allow through 1 part out of every 1.2676506e+30 parts of surface radiation. That's 1,26 and then 30 ceroes.
You know what, I recognize my mistake, I was exagerating. I'll correct my comment to only read "10 meters".
@@SalveMonesvol I don't think you realise how deep 9-10 metres is. Very very few bunkers are that deep, the vast majority of the bunkers built in the cold war for a nuclear strike were very deep as it gets very very expensive to dig that deep.
An example of a 9-10m deep bunker would be the bunker that they reached at the season 1 finale. Were there others? Maybe, but good luck finding them.
Also, deep mines or subway systems would give adequate protection.
That is of course assuming its gamma rays and not neutrons.
I'm not saying we should expect the sun to kill us with gamma rays but as far as sci-fi goes this isn't just pure magic.

No. The actor who played Terenzio was a part of the promo that announced season 2. The main theme of the promo was that they'd be back, however, he appeared to basically say, "But some of us won't." This made it clear that his character was indeed actually dead and therefore would not be returning.

Imagine having all the passengers to help you with everything.
several things i don't understand:
1. why were they locked in the generator room in the first place? couldn't they open it from the outside? It's not derelict, so there's no reason why they wouldn't be able to.
2. why would being locked in with a generator kill them? Is it gas powered? and if so, then why doesn't the gas fill up the entire bunker when on?
3. why would the place get too hot without the generator? they're underground, which is naturally colder. The only thing that would make things hotter would be electricity, so without anything running, it would get cooler?
In conclusion, there is no science in this show
Regarding 3, as you go deeper it becomes hotter. 1 degree F per 30 feet starting at around 100 feet.

Looking at the scientists experiments with shielding:
I’m pretty sure any scientist would know Aluminum foil won’t do jack.
The scientists in this show learn stuff backwards first. They learn the extremely complicated stuff first and then they learn the simple things last
The soldiers are wayy to nice , they insist on going for trial . Really IDK how anyone can watch this without loosing their brain cells
I think they wanted to imply something political about how "trials bad."
So many contradicting factors in this series, it’s kinda silly, as any large objects relying on electricity would be totally f*cked. I HAVE heard that aluminium foil can protect smaller electronic devices from solar flares & I think lead also is something that can be used to block stronger levels of radiation. But since I’ve never actually tested either theory, IDK for 100% sure … that’s what they say, though. Considering that, it’s better than doing nothing at all (if such things were to happen in real life), right? 🤷♀️😅
Solar flares have an EMP effect that can fry electronics, but copper plating and faraday cages effectively stop the pulse which would protect the electronics. Important government sites and bases are typically EMP resistant such as nuclear missile silos and would most likely be well protected by a solar flares EMP effect.
Imagine someone building a door that can close and both sides cannot open it without using a welding torch, even for a military base
Thank u for the recap
Everybody must be so good at teamwork to refuel a plane so fast
Yeah yeah the sun is dangerous but shouldn't the night be dangerous too? The moon reflects sunlight which means you cant get outside at all
I dunno? Maybe a trash science
Sun's gamma rays are too short to be reflected by the moon.
@@ihavenonamestilldonthaveon8970 The Moon does emit gamma rays through interaction with cosmic rays. Actually we receive more gamma rays from the Moon than the Sun itself (except during solar flares), as proven by the Fermi Gamma-Ray Space Telescope a few years ago. Protons are thought to be mainly responsible for this phenomenon, and solar flares are known to blast the Moon with protons. So indeed, the Moon would be dangerous too.
But the plot is extremely simplified, the science is so poor I can't take it seriously :
-The upper atmosphere would absorb those gamma rays and attenuate them before they hit the ground via Compton scattering, photoelectric effect and pair production. This is how the atmosphere protects us from gamma rays and cosmic rays. This is also the reason why we have to place our telescopes in space if we want to study gamma rays and cosmic rays in general.
-Solar flares are mostly protons, X-rays and high-energy UVs, the absolute vaste majority of gamma rays produced in the Sun's core don't even leave it, hitting other particles, giving away some of their energy and producing visible light instead. That quantity of constant gamma radiation would indicate that we're bathed in those high energy particles, that would be a far bigger concern for life on Earth. You'd see constant auroras in the sky, maybe even near the Equator. Electronics would have been fried or damaged, or at least communications would have been disturbed since day one, even without direct sunlight exposure. Not to mention that the plane from season 1 wouldn't have been able to fly in such conditions.
-This quantity of constant gamma rays would have ionized and depleted the upper atmosphere and radically changed its composition, killing all life on Earth, or at the very least deeply affected climate.
-If gamma rays are so intense as to change the molecular composition of food indoors, all life on Earth would have been killed, plants and most microbes included, yet they seem to thrive.
The plot doesn't describe a solar flare, but a permanent gamma-ray burst that only kills humans when the Sun shows itself. It was probably written by a 5 year old.
Yeah, basically the science in this is trash.
Radiation that strong should be frying absolutely everything, including electronics. The moment anything touched sunlight in that case? Well, there goes it's usability, with the exception being hardened systems. Which means that like, 99.9% of everything electronic would be unusuable.
Also, dying due to radiation is actually much, MUCH more horrifying.
If the sun hit Earth with gamma rays, the entire atmosphere (along with the oceans) would be stripped away, so realistically, Earth would be turned into Tatooine except no one can breathe…
I think the reason they went to norway is because we (we, becuase I live in Norway) have seeds for every plant, and are generally really good at prepearing for anything, so we still sell can food in some stores.
