Interesting thought, would anything and anyone who died actually decay at all? I’d imagine that a gamma ray event like this would also kill all the worlds micro-organisms, including the ones responsible for breaking down dead things. Would everything that died just remain dried up for millions of years on a sterile surface?
Actually the radiation would basically melt you, so those fruit they were eating would have been mush and would have given them radiation poisoning, so you are right they wouldn’t decay normally, but they would become puddles because of high radiation
I actually kinda feel bad for Torenzio. Like, yeah, he did harm a fellow passenger badly, but at the same time, he was also willing to give his life in the end to save the others. At the same time, if those morons had just taken the other turn, he'd have likely still been alive.
I mean, at first when he took control of the plane it was justified then suddenly he went super out of character and suddenly was racist for no reason and then suddenly decided to assault the guy and then... not let Rick finish his investigation? So I'm honestly more annoyed at the forced conflict then him being left behind because at that point it felt like the movie was trying it's hardest to pad run time Also they had no way of knowing which way was the correct kne so meh
If it wasn't for Torenzio all of the passengers would have most likely died on the plane so instead of saving him they just left him there to die... Nice.

Whoever made this series is a clear SCP fan. The premise is similar to SCP-001 "when day breaks", with the sun killing everything. The only thing it's missing is the molten flesh monsters that hunt down the survivors and drag them into the sunlight.
Its actually taken from a Polish sci fi story "The Old Axolotl" about an extinction event that forces the surviving humans to devlop the tech to upload their consciousness into mechs. For some odd reason they made the show and the spinoff show (takes place on a submarine) about the origin of the extinction. I doubt they will go into the sci fi part sadly.
Not everything has to be a scp refrence. When you have thousands of articles imagining every stupid world ending scenario, you're bound to have a movie similar to anything related to scp.
this movie/series is one of the few ones that would benefit heavily from not explaining how it works, i feel like 'we dont know why but sun is causing people to die' is better than gamma being able to go through anything & remodel things but it seems like a fun one regardless
Airplane mechanic here and there’s no way that a person hanging on to the landing gear would keep them from landing unless they’re worried of him getting inside being able to get inside the airplane or something once they’d reach the ground. Secondly altitude wouldn’t slow your trip to Hawaii or anywhere in any way. Altitude would only effect the fuel efficiency since the air is thicker at lower altitude
lower altitude would slow your trip actually, as your true airspeed would become much lower than at higher altitudes, due to less efficiency. Less efficiency because of the air being more dense at lower altitudes as you say
I think their thought process was something like- It's probably like foot racing tracks, with the unwalkable center being the earth. If you're on the outside lane you're technically running more than the people on the inner rings of the track, and they have the advantage, even if only by a small amount, because the circumference is different. (Which is why they don't start the race in a straight line so they are running the same distance) Since the earth is round it'd be the same deal, there's be more space to cover farther away when going around the whole earth. They probably stopped their logic there and left it at that without considering anything else xD but doesn't make sense that the lower altitude would make the trip slower
I love how they kept doing laps around the globe while they could just go either to the north or south pole (depending on the seasons) and enjoy the 6 months of night in one of the 2 locations. SCIENCE !
as a matter of fact, there are like a dozen of aerodromes in Antarctica, and when it comes to food, nothing stopped them from making a stop on one of the airport, get as much food as possible, and then go straight to one of the poles (once again, depending on the seasons). Especially when you know that they had like 4 hours at some point to get ready before the next departure.
@@MrTuide10 a passenger jet is not made for Antarctica... Because it's a passenger jet. Add to that the fact that you're gonna leave it there for 6 months and I can guarantee you that the engines aren't even going to turn on.

You assume people would be happy to not be waited on hand and foot at some tequila resort and be content rationing basic foodstuffs along with bad wifi. Good plan though.
@@PastEons with the scenario as presented by the movie, there is no safe place beyond the short term. The whole planet is screwed. Total animal extinction. Probably plant extinction in time. Only those in the magical bunkers surviving until their supplies run out.
If I remember correctly they received the information by radio from another plane. and later they found an article that mentioned that this underwater bunker was never finished so there were no guarantees that they would be safe.
Svalbard Airport could be a possible location, depending on when in the year it takes place. That airport is in 2 months of nighttime... and even during the day the sun stays low in the sky, which significantly weakens the gamma radiation (not to mention the amount of ozone is also greater, though potentionally not enough to shield to a survivable level). Gamma radiation isn't affected by the magnetic field like charged particle radiation either.
Wouldn’t it have made sense to fly towards one of the poles depending on time of year where the sun doesn’t rise for over a month? Prep a flight near the transition of seasons to head to the other pole during the night and double that time?
as a former both helicopter and airplane pilot, it's impossible to pilot a modern plane like this with helicopter knowledge, as for the instrumentation is too complicated in comparison to the helicopter's. but good movie either way XD

What actually would make sense if the gamma rays would do anything like they said in the movie would be the hide under thick layers of concrete, steel or any deep bunkers. Gamma rays are hard to block but it can be blocked if you put enough thick layers between you and the rays.
This show had an AMAZING premise, and the first season was good overall. Second season didn’t manage to sustain things though. I would have personally recommended having them continue circling the earth for longer, more than just a couple days.
When the solar flare occurs, the most stupid thing to do is flying over the natural shield of the atmosphere and exposing to all kinda cosmic radiation directly.
The difference in radiation exposure between sea level and flight altitude (8-10km) is not enough for the effect you are describing. Such thing can and does happen in space and on the ISS. I think the most logical thing to do is a situation like the one in the video would be to either build a base underground/underwater or even better, build a settlement over the arctic polar circle where you get 6 months of night, and then go to the other pole!
@@deathsilver1376 the last part about the “living on the poles” was referring to the movie logic and how I would have dealt with it, and by the way I was implying that radiation “only exists” during the daytime

Passengers and Mathieu: Hey can we go to our actual destination? Terenzio: No Passengers and Mathieu: Why? Terenzio: *The sun is a deadly lazer!* Ah yes, I love this high-production SCP series. Also, it's not a movie, nor is it from 2015. It's a Belgian series with two seasons (this is season one) from 2020 that premiered on Netflix. It is based off a Polish novel from 2015 called The Old Axolotl
The plane shown in the clips is a narrow-body plane from the A320 family; it doesn't have the range to fly from Brazil to Iceland nonstop, which would take about 13 hours. Regardless, planes cannot fly nonstop from Brazil to Moscow going either east or west; that's a 22-hour flight by the shortest route and no plane carrying passengers and luggage has that range. If you spent all that time flying North, you'd waste too much time *not* flying west to escape the sun. If they fly to Scotland, that's going east towards the sunrise; the sun rises in the east, and sets in the west. Airliners flying west fly a little slower than the movement of the sun, so it would eventually catch up anyways, and as soon as they would have to land for fuel, any layover time would probably doom them. If magnetic reversals allowed the release of gamma rays, all life on earth would have been wiped out far too often for complex life, let alone civilization, to develop.
Also, before they found out about the bunker, wouldn’t one of the poles (whichever one is experiencing total darkness depending on the season) be a viable option temporarily? They’d have nowhere to land or refuel on second thought… nvm lol
Thing with the bunkers is really weird. If it is gamma ray as they said, 1 meter of packed dirt is about enough to halve its power. Concrete or lead work even better. So bunker 10 meters under ground, with concrete walls would require gamma rays of about 1000-2000 times more strength to insta kill people then what would be necessary to kill someone on the ground. So the "polarity switch went out of balance" sounds kinda like bullshit, since if it worked like this, humanity would have to be destroyed long long long time before that. If large imbalance is at least 1000 times more deadly then necessary to clear surface, that would mean that in last 50000 years not a once ever in those 11-year long cycles was there even minor inbalance (which would be enough to clear entire planet of life on its own) Writers here really screwed up with their attempt to raise the stakes and make the danger that much more deadly and inevitable they went too overboard. Straight from the concept of "everyone on planet will die no matter where they hide except few people running away on plane and few people in specific inhospotable locations" I just lost interest in watching the movie itself, and I am here just for the nitpicking of it. Edit: Watched recap of further seasons and wow, what a load of BS. On one side, they say that they have no clue how to protect themselve from the radiation in day. At the same time their bunker is nothing special. Does not seem to be superdeep (as in hundreds of meters below ground. Some metro systems right now have tunels 50+ meters deep for example and yet those were not considered as place where you can survive) and it does not have superfortified entrance. In other way all that stands between then and the radiation is tunnel with few doors in between. So either those doors are capable of stoping the radiation (at which point they should know what material works against it) or it is just complete nonsense. I bet more on the latter.

Interesting thought, would anything and anyone who died actually decay at all? I’d imagine that a gamma ray event like this would also kill all the worlds micro-organisms, including the ones responsible for breaking down dead things.
Would everything that died just remain dried up for millions of years on a sterile surface?
huh that’s an interesting thought
These microbes are immune
Actually the radiation would basically melt you, so those fruit they were eating would have been mush and would have given them radiation poisoning, so you are right they wouldn’t decay normally, but they would become puddles because of high radiation

Geez some of the science in this movie is crazy. Keeping it simple, it is accurate that exposure to Gamma rays can most definitely kill you. It's the most dangerous form of light. Although a few inches of something dense like Lead or even a couple feet of Concrete should be enough to stop gamma rays from penetrating. So anyone in a bunker in this movie should be safe, and even normal buildings to an extent depending on It's size and where they are.
Lead made bunkers.
Makes sense
Fun Fact:Fusion in the sun produces gamma rays but its converted to less harmful forms of light as it works its way to the suface.
Also even if they hid in the bunker the gamma ray would kill everything photosynthetic and eventually there would be too much CO2 and not enough O2.
@@Waywardpaladin oxygen is not the main concern as millions of years ago only h2o ans ch3 was there are oxygen was produced by water.

Altitude would only effect the fuel efficiency since the air is thicker at lower altitude
its a show from Belgium thats a horror/thriller. Its not supposed to be realistic.
"The science in this movie is out-of-control bullshit."
lower altitude would slow your trip actually, as your true airspeed would become much lower than at higher altitudes, due to less efficiency.
Okay mr mechanic so thicker air, like 4 times thicker air won’t impact the airplanes ground speed. Hmm…

The ending of this movie is INFURIATING! If it wasn’t for that man, they would all be dead! And she has the nerve to handcuff him there. Absolutely crazy.
Whats the name of the movie?
Maybe he was to be seen as the bad guy of the series. I get the feeling after he assaulted the other guy he was seen as a betrayal and she thought he would kill them all eventually. I would have to see the whole scene myself really get why she did it.
@@whitedragoness23 he even tried to redeem himself at the end, right at the moment she cuffed him.
that's fcking suck.

@@whitedragoness23 He was generally antagonistic and an asshole to the other passengers a lot for weird shit. Didn't really come off to a great start and seemed kinda insincere. Then tried to kill the other dude (who was a pretty valuable asset), and then lied about it, it was game over then.
What actually would make sense if the gamma rays would do anything like they said in the movie would be the hide under thick layers of concrete, steel or any deep bunkers. Gamma rays are hard to block but it can be blocked if you put enough thick layers between you and the rays.
That would be a cool post-apocalyptic scenario.
@@Mogo-jan That's called a Nuclear Strike, animu.
@@Mogo-jan Like only going out at night and having to scramble once the morning comes.
its a show, and they hide inside a bunker in season 2
Depends on energy levels
@@yuyy8565 i hope you know that radiation doesn't exist exclusively at night 😭
@@deathsilver1376 the last part about the “living on the poles” was referring to the movie logic and how I would have dealt with it, and by the way I was implying that radiation “only exists” during the daytime
@@deathsilver1376 it does when it's gamma light radiation
If its sunlight that's dangerous. Wouldn't that mean the moon is dangerous as well? Since the moon reflects sunlight.
Scp day break. Basically.
It’s not the sunlight that kills them it’s the gamma rays that kills them hence why even in places that sunlight can’t penetrate through you’ll still die
i think it more about the earth's magnetic field being disturbed by the sun like in solar flares. so basicaly only the side that faces the sun shuld be affected.
Technically yes, but the moon reflects so little of the suns light that it does nothing
The waves of gamma radiation are too short. Moon’s surface would not reflect them.
wow - they're flying in a plane that needs to be refueled ever 8-10 hours with no ground crew alive to assist, and they get worried about their food not being nutritional enough to live for more than a few weeks? *shakes head*

Golden rays of the glorious sunshine
Setting down, such a blood-red light
Now the animals slowly retreat
To the shadows -- out of sight
Arid breeze blows across the mountains
Giving flight to the birds of prey
In the distance machines come
To transform Eden -- day by day
Only love is with us now
Something warm and pure
Find the peace within ourselves
No need for a cure
When the wind is slow
And the fire's hot
The vulture waits to see what rots
Oh how pretty
All the scenery
This is nature's sacrifice
When the air blows through
With a brisk attack
The reptile tail ripped from its back
When the sun sets
We will not forget the

They’d have nowhere to land or refuel on second thought… nvm lol
plus i think if they landed they cant use the plane again
Thing with the bunkers is really weird. If it is gamma ray as they said, 1 meter of packed dirt is about enough to halve its power. Concrete or lead work even better.
So bunker 10 meters under ground, with concrete walls would require gamma rays of about 1000-2000 times more strength to insta kill people then what would be necessary to kill someone on the ground.
So the "polarity switch went out of balance" sounds kinda like bullshit, since if it worked like this, humanity would have to be destroyed long long long time before that. If large imbalance is at least 1000 times more deadly then necessary to clear surface, that would mean that in last 50000 years not a once ever in those 11-year long cycles was there even minor inbalance (which would be enough to clear entire planet of life on its own)
Writers here really screwed up with their attempt to raise the stakes and make the danger that much more deadly and inevitable they went too overboard.

So let me get this straight he boards a plane in Brazil. Flies west to Iceland “around the entire earth once” and then somehow flies west again to Scotland all on the tank of fuel they had from a rushed take off?
it was a mistake on the narrator's part. he meant they didn't have enough fuel to keep flying west and they couldn't land at Iceland, so they had to turn back towards europe and land at an RAF base in Scotland
