  • Just getting started metal detecting or maybe you're a seasoned pro? With so many metal detectors on the market, you may be wondering which is the best to buy here in 2023. The absolute best metal detector for the money, currently, is the Nokta Makro Simplex+ Metal Detector. amzn.to/3Ija8P6 Hands down, for the money, no other can beat the Simplex in features or quality. You can expect to pay more than $500 for the next closest comparative model with similar features.
    UPDATE: Nokta has changed to offer the Simplex in three different models now... there is a "lite" version, a "BT" version and the "Ultra" version. The Lite and BT versions are under $300, and with that you get a fully waterproof submersible, very capable metal detector. The BT version is most like this model I've reviewed in this video. For $50 more, you get the top of the line Simplex version, the Ultra. I highly reccoment that detector as is it better than the one in our video. Fully submersible means it can go completely underwater. Most other machines, only the coil can be fully submerged. It has a collapsible shaft for easy travel, a very sensitive coil that does deep, ground balance, pinpoint function, multiple detecting modes, tons of other settings/features, and is fully rechargeable/upgradeable through a USB cord. It is a pro-level machine at an entry level price. Here is my review of the Nokta Makro Simplex Metal Detector.

    I`d get this and a Vanquish 340 or 440. All the bases are covered that way. Both have amazing abilities and features. The Simplex is great for hunting in old freshwater swimming holes in creeks. If you`re off-grid on a hunt take a 30 watt portable folding solar panel and keep it charging up a power bank during the day and charge the Simplex back up at the end of the hunt with it. Get a USB powered NiMH charger to keep a set solar charged for the Vanquish the same way.

      There's a young kid who dug a gold cross with the Simplex and it wasn't a small cross either. He dig a comparison video with the Vanquish to show the target VDI's. After laying it on the surface and hitting it with the Simplex he showed the VDI (I forget the number off hand). He then swept over it in the beach mode with the Vanquish and barely a beep on the surface??? It was reading like a 1 through 3??? He tweeked it and never got 1 reading above 10 in any mode. He was mentioning that he never found gold with it only coins then when he went 5o the Simplex he started pulling out some gold finds. He's now using the legend. I believe the site is called treasure outdoors? He asked the question about why low VDI's and certain programs I had to explain because there were knuckle heads bringing up sensitivity or recovery speeds and other nonsense. I explained how it's the frequency choice of what you're hunting but it's amazing that Vanquish struggled with a gold cross 1 1/2" talk and an 1/8" thick SMH. He went back and did a test with the Legend using the higher frequency as I suggested and responded that it made a huge difference. Minelab tried to compete with the Simplex but they got it wrong by cheating on some of the higher end tech. You can buy anything you please but it's your money. Detectors that have multiple frequencies should not struggle in a specific area especially in a beach/jewelry mode that can't hit a 14k gold cross. It hit it barely and it ready like a tiny piece of stainless steel with barely a positive VDI number

      @@jeanponce2017 not quite true. Vanquish finds deep gold and silver ( found 76 silver coins and 18 rings so far) . The guy whom you spoke about hunts with a 440. In the test you referred to the simplex hit targets slightly deeper. Only advantage is that the simplex is water resistant and the built in light it has. The vanquish like the equinox are built for salt water.

      The guy I'm talking about hunts with a Legend he tested the Vanquish to see what it read and it read surprisingly low. The Simplex can hunt in salt after you do the ground balance you then have to go disc out the low positive VDI numbers which would cost you small gold but very small it still hits a big cross like the one I'm talking about. You might not be thinking of the same person. The Simplex cancels out the black sand but it seems salty water as a signal like a VDI from 1 to 6 so disc out up to 8 and she will go pretty much silent in the salt water. People think it's the negative black sand it's not it's hitting on the positive salt which shows a low VDI like small stainless or an earring

      There's also videos on youtube saying the simplex+ is no use for finding gold, and other videos saying the vanquish series is good for gold. I suppose it depends on the person using it, their experience, and the terrain. There's contradictions all over the internet. If i were to get a beginner/budget model, i'd go with an analog metal detector.

    Yeah looks like minelab is gunning for the Simplex with the Xterra pro $260ish. I guess they seen people still want a single frequency detector and want a affordable detector. Only thing I see the xterra will have is the recovery speed adjustment, 3 frequency to choose from (5khz,10khz and 15khz). I'm hoping Nokta give the multiple frequency in the new Simplex ultra. Guess we'll see. I own a Simplex and a Gold Kruzer. Don't planning on jumping ship anytime. Next one will be the legend.

      Live videos of the X-Terra Pro show coins reading as iron in all frequencies, air tests from other videos show its limitations of depth are approximately 11 to 12 inches even with the 12 inch coil, but for people at the beach it's still a strong contender. Using old school Whites machines I found coins from the mid-1700s at no deeper than 9 to 10 inches, so target range depth is not the most important issue for me as a Nokta Simplex and Qwest Q10 Pro user, it's that casino slot machine sound of the Minelab and serious processing delay!. Notice the sounds are heard only after the coil has passed over the target. What I love about the Nokta Simplex is the old school threshold that enables you to find the deepest targets. Nokta plans to update the frequency of the Simplex from 12 to 15 MHz which will totally destroy its depth making the Minelab the leader of the pack, so sad. Any thoughts?

I would advise you to definitely keep looking for further information on that or even reach out to Nokta or maybe find a video on UA-cam regarding that I just never tried it but wish you the best of luck an awesome finds in your future

      I havent had a chance to give the X-Terra a go yet but have heard some good things. That is the first Ive heard about the coins reading as iron. New machines are always coming out and so "Best" videos will always have a limited life. I think Minelab was very smart in coming out with this machine at this price point and tons of people love Minelab. I am sure it is cutting into sales of the Simplex. Time will tell how it performs... the features are very impressive. I swing the Legend and have this Simplex as my backup... either the Simplex or the X-Terra would be a great way to go if you are beginning in this hobby. I dont think going from 12 to 15 mHz will affect depth in some soils, maybe in the sand, but for beginners buying this machine, it will be unnoticeable to them.

    • @ArcanZA
      @ArcanZA Рік тому

      Higher frequencies is better for small gold nuggets , small ear ring studs etc. Lower frequencies is better for silver. So going higher you will gain sensitivity for gold but sacrifice maybe for silver although 15 khz still works for silver. 12 khz was a sweet spot for gold and silver. Simultaneous multifrequency like NOX and vanquish uses both high and low together.

    I just purchased a Nokta Mako Simplex + last week. Very difficult to understand this detector. Gave up my old Bounty Hunter Lone Star and bought this. Way too much chatter and false signals, painful to use. I have watched several youtube videos about Simplex and apparently they have a keen sense of hearing that differentiates between tones. Iron adjustment along with other adjustments make it complicated and unusable in areas with trash in the ground. It was suggested that I purchased the 24 coil, which is a smaller coil, but I don't want to get in deeper with this unit so mine will be up for sale on Facebook this week at a loss of course. If you can try before you buy a Simplex.

    • @ifindit2319
      @ifindit2319  Рік тому +2

      Sorry you had that experience. It is a bit of a learning curve if you are coming from a machine like the Lonestar with an 8" concentric coil operating at 6.5kHz which is a really quiet machine, to the Simplex with an 11" DoubleD coil operating at 12khz. The higher the kHz, the more sensitive the machine and the more small targets it will hear and report back to the user. You can discriminate out some of the lower end signals and reduce the power so you dont hear as much if you want to detect in quiet like you are used to. The LG24 coil wont quiet it down as much as it will be laser focused to get past all the iron and scream at you with no doubt when it is over a good target. Any modern type machine will give you a lot more information about whats in the ground but also let you discriminate and power down to keep it as quiet as you like. You do give some great advice, before buying any machine, see if you can test it out somewhere... metal detecting clubs are a great place for this. If you have one near you, go attend a meeting and ask if anyone has the machine you are looking to buy and ask if you can try it out... good chances they will accommodate you. Best of luck.

Ask permission or know of any regulations where you live... welcome to the community but always remember, your actions reflect on all of us so go get the good stuff but do it the right way. Parks, if your location allows, are good starting points to learn your machine... not using discrimination will have you digging everything but will teach you the fastest about what your machine is telling you... using discrimination to tune out the iron signals will take a bit longer but you will find more successful finds and keep you in the game as you learn. Unless you are hunting farm fields and looking for old relics, then just go all metal mode with no discrimination. Have fun and know you have on killer machine.

    • @ifindit2319
      @ifindit2319  Рік тому +2

      Great question. The Vanquish is a good machine and had multi-frequency technology which is a feature these days that many detectors are trying to offer, but, the Vanquish is not waterproof, only the coil is, which means if it rains, you are diving for cover and around water you have to be extra careful. The Simplex is fully submergible waterproof which means you can take it almost anywhere and not have to worry. Simplex is a single frequency machine but it is a very capable single frequency machine which has been the standard for years, and for the price point vs. the Vanquish, it gets my vote hands down.

    • @BlastedKat
      @BlastedKat Рік тому +1

      The vanquish is a very good machine but a little on the fridge side compared to the Simplex. I've had the Simplex to 20 three times with no leaks. It's built like a tank, it is single frequency but runs at the goldilocks frequency of 12 kilohertz so you're good if you're going to the beach. Do not let the low price of the Simplex fool you. The latest 2.78 update really brought the machine to life.

    • @spacefury65
      @spacefury65 Рік тому

      I have a Vanquish 440. Didn't need the bluetooth or backlit display. The machine is a coin vacuum. If you solely rely on the target IDs, you're good to bad ratio is like 90%. It goes deep, real deep. Reacts good with gold too. My problem with the Vanquish is its inability to reliably detect US SILVER coins without it bouncing around target IDs and scratchy sounding tones.. But, for the money, ITS AWESOME.
      I would like to try the Simplex to see how it reacts.
      I'm from the old school of detecting where we had solid round epoxy coils that REALLY pinpointed and its frequency detected targets evenly. Air shooting IS NOT a good test bed for anything. I can hit a silver dime on edge at 10 inches with a clean clear sound and target ID, but certainly NOT the case in the ground. While ground conditions DO matter, it can't be the same everywhere I go to get the same reactions from the Minelab.

    How deep it can go?..

    • @ifindit2319
      @ifindit2319  Рік тому

      Its 'sweet spot' is around 8-10" but I have found good targets with it at 12-14" .... the area where I go detecting most of time, the targets are usually much more shallow at 4-6".

      These types of videos always have a short lifespan dont they? Seems like were in a new machine frenzy lately with all the players coming out with something new... soon to be Garrett and Fisher ... Simplex is still a solid machine for anyone just getting into the hobby to see if they like it... X-Terra as well.

    Detectors are allowed in airport

      Yes, either checked or in carry on ... better to carry the user manual so anyone checking can see clearly what it is. Usually get pulled aside from security but always let on board. Thats what great about this machine, it collapses so small, that its great for carry on luggage. Ive only flown internationally from the US to the UK and it was fine
