Astro Bot being the only thing worth a damn here is a sad state of affairs for the PlayStation brand. Every time they do a State of Play now, I demand another one ASAP to make up for how lacking it was. I can't remember ever being impressed by one, and I am a PlayStation gamer primarily. Meanwhile with Nintendo Directs, I always bust out the wishlist. Sony just SUCKS at this
Gotta disagree with Max on this one. Dynasty Warriors ACTUALLY looks like they're trying this time. Like the same effort they put into the Zelda ones. After the last few bombs they gotta bring the game back. Where Winds Meet, and Ballad of Antara look like cool new IPs (especially BoA). Silent Hill looks promising too. Can't just be excited for games we already played and know about. Give the new studios and IPs a chance. I AM with him with my lack of interest for another Hero Shooter though....
That marvel game looked awful, reminded me of that Xbox mele moba thing from few years ago, which bombed spectacularly, I wonder if the ip will carry this one.
DW tried something different from 9. It just didn't hit. Should respect for trying though, rather than all the big studios (Ubisoft) that didn't bother trying since they found Assassin's Creed
Idk what statistic companies think they know, but there’s not nor there ever was a NEED for hero shooters breh 🤣🤣🤣🤣 not every game has to be a twitch game. Like look at your old backlog and see what game needs a sequel, remake or remaster. Definitely catered to younger gamers, 30+ gamers don’t have time for this. It’s like they’re sad Overwatch didn’t blow up to Fortnite levels or something “we can revive hero shooters just you wait” aight bub…
I'm pretty pleased with what was shown. Astrobot, Path of Exile (hadn't even considered getting until this announcement), Antara, Dynasty Warriors (been a decade since I've bought it), and Monster Hunter. Also hoping that Concord surprises people and turns out to be a good game.
Path of exile looking great, been following it for some time and it seems like it’s going to bring some fresh ideas into the genre, and the game being free, there’s no reason not to try it.
Which is funny, because it's basically Mario. Sony used to have originality in spades with games like I.Q., Parappa, and Rogue Galaxy. Now it's just cinematic games and watered down versions of something better.
Max, you and I both know 100% that Overwatch didn't get mega popular from the appeal of the characters, but the "appeal" of them from SFM 'artists'. That has always been how it got huge after the reveal/launch.
I thought the majority of games looked good like Astro Bot, Concord, Marvel Rivals, Ballad of Anatara, a new look a Where Winds Meet, etc. There were more single player games there then live service shooters and even the ones they showed looked different from each other and I wouldn't say that because a game you were looking for wasn't shown doesn't mean the state of play was bad overall.
Dynasty Origins looks great and finally get to see those massive army stay on screen while you fighting against them at least that what I hope. Also, can't wait for Marvel Rivals and maybe Concord. I also can't wait for Max to playthrough Silent Hill 2.
Out of this state of play, Astro Bot won me big time. It reminds me of the classic game of the past and boy i am so ready to play this game and support this cute little guy!!! I really miss these type of games. The remains of Japan Studio still lives!!!!
Hype for Monster Hunter. But also I'm kinda getting tired of the Samurai Soulslike genre or just feudal japan in general. It's like the new oversaturation of Zombie games that we had during the Left for Dead era of games.
10:08 To sum it up efficiently: > Overwatch 2 is announced, it's a solo campaign and an update to the multiplayer in one package > Updates stop for Overwatch 1 in preparation for 2 > No news for a while > Releases Overwatch 2 as free to play, but only the slightly updated multiplayer > "Solo campaign will release later on" > No news for a while > Solo campaign officially cancelled and reworked into paid story missions > Release 3 missions, "we will release more in future seasons' > No news for a while > Story missions officially cancelled > "Overwatch 2" is now just Overwatch 1 with extra balance patches
I genuinely love how all the comments on the new State of Play are just pissed at Sony for the state of the games industry their perpetuating and also shitting on Concord at every opportunity. Amazing. Better than the actual presentation imo. Only things worth seeing were Monster Hunter: Wilds and Astro Bot. Those looked good.
Wouldn’t blame Sony for the entire state of the industry. It really every higher ups in companies and the players fault. If games like battle royal, hero shooter, extreme live service games didn’t make millions so easily than we wouldn’t be in this situation.
@@gunzkiller101I would put MOST of the blame on Sony ever since they went down the path of making “narrative driven movie games with realistic graphics”. If you saw Max’s previous video on how graphics don’t matter anymore, people talk about how maybe realism/realistic graphics in video games is what drives the cost of video games up and make the time of creating a video game worse. If you don’t believe me look at previous leaks of Sony where the budget numbers for their exclusive games cost. And then look how long they took to make. Now most AAA studios are following suit taking so long to make games and them costing a LOT of money. Why do you think AAA game companies are trying to make single player games with live service aspects?
@@RaspyChunfortunately graphics do sell better then something with a personality. People would honestly rather buy a game with good graphics then good story/gameplay
Yeah my worst fears were kinda realized with that SH2 Abstract Daddy fight showing. A big loud fight in a big video gamey arena. The original room was small and enclosed for a reason.
You did watch the Silent Hill transmission? The game looks pretty damn good now and they seem to be doing very well with the pacing and atmosphere. Having some In-your-face loud horror as well as the atmospheric slow-burn stuff shown in Transmission I think is pretty important to be faithful to the original games.
the irony is, the fact they named it concord, means, if it bomb, they will make it pretty easy to compare with the plane of the same name that crashed on its first flight...
Dude the characters were so charming in Concord. I was on board for a Gaurdians styled adventure with them. Once they said “5v5 shooter” they killed all sort of interest I had in it. But yes the GOTG game is phenomenal. My favorite version of those characters!
Yup same, I was like "oh this seems kinda cool...." and, like you, the moment they said 5v5 shooter was just...nope...It's a 'late to the party' Overwatch knockoff. As Max said, games take a long time to develop so when you start Overwatch may be really popular...but by the time it comes out that whole 5v5 hero shooter thing has really died off...its what companies get for chasing trends.
@@luketfer they are either very late to the party because they want the game to be polished on release, or they are on time with their release but it's very half baked. They can't win.

Not sure if you saw the ps store listing but they revealed that in the game your working with a couple of playstation icons so I'm hard betting that some of the worlds you visit are past games (like the ice world in the trailer looks ALOT like Helheim from GoW and the beach could possibly be Jax and Daxter)
The astro tech demo is still one of the best ps5 games ive played, it was so good that i wanted a full game and they actually.gave it to us - thats a day 1 for me, one of the most refreshing game concepts ive played in a long time, it gives me ps1 and ps2 feels
Man likes Monster Hunter, he has no room to speak when those games have literally been the same old run around and spend a few hours trying to kill one enemy and hasn't really deviated from that.
@@nman551It's an open-world spin-off/sequel to a mobile game called Love Nikki: Dress-Up Queen. Honestly looks kinda cool. Might check it out and the mobile games.
I haven’t really played games since PS2. I check in with Max to hear his takes on fighting games; Max’s passion for games and enthusiasm for them and life in general - makes me feel good even as a non gamer. I remember when I got my PS1 it came with a demo of maybe 6 games? One of them was Jumping Flash I think it was called? Astro Bot feels like Jumping Flash on that Heisenberg Blue Crystal Persuasion.
Sony treats every state of play like E3. Everything gets an unnecessary amout of time where the developers preach to the choir, and those not convinced will be convinced even less by the end. Nintendo keeps things short and sweet with their directs, giving everything an elevator pitch at most and moving on. This forces everyone to pick their words carefully and put their best foot forward.
The hype for Astro helps show that a good number of people still want colorful, very stylized games (like me). Not knocking Hyperrealism (especially RE Engine), but the visuals of Astro, Marvel RIVALS and even Infinity Nikky impressed me the most.
Facts, most of them are still in the “this is just an idea” phase. That trailer is just case of them making us remember that their game exist, doing too much of that is going to make the people stop caring about the game. Wukong is so far is the only one that is legit and has a release date.
"Silent elf dude with a sword of destiny in a big winding world with lots of puzzles. If you're getting got'ed by this, this has been their strategy since the N64!" - Max's argument about DW, but for Legend of Zelda.
Astro Bot is the first thing that has made me want a PS5. Just looks like a lot of fun. Most other major games have come to PC eventually, but this will never.
Max: I could be wrong, this could be Sony's Brute Force Me: OMG would love for that game to come back 😂 Also how many people are gonna get that reference.
Okay, here's the part that confuses me the most about Concord. In the game the characters are Free Runners. They keep mentioning Free Runners So much that I'm like. Why the fuck is this not the video game title!? Why is it bot "FREE RUNNERS" instead of "CONCORD"!? The only thing that I can think of which would be kind of a stupid reason but I'd get it. Is that the term Free Runners would imply that it's a free-to-play game instead of a $70 game, which I still think is one of the dumbest decisions they've made here.

Love that they feel confident enough in Astribot to end in it! Looking great
Astrobot looks amazing! Love Max's coverage of events, excited for next week
I'm fucking buying Astro Bot day 1 babyyyy
That game looks legit awesome! I hope it's gonna be great and sells well.
Astro Bot, not Astro Boy, that's different character LOL
@@kleberson777 Y and T are next to each other, minor mistake hahahaha
Astrobot blew me away. Like for real. I felt like I was watching the first Mario Galaxy trailer again.
Unironically most excited about Astro Bot
Same!
Also hoping that Concord surprises people and turns out to be a good game.
genuinely, i hope concord doesnt work. im tired of companies investing so hard into another overwatch clone, or the whole live service crap.
Path of exile looking great, been following it for some time and it seems like it’s going to bring some fresh ideas into the genre, and the game being free, there’s no reason not to try it.
About that
@@Waltersop Did you come back to a three month old video?
Finally, new dynasty warriors game is here, been waiting for it for so long 😆😆😆
Astrobot feels like the most unique thing Sony has made in a while.
Which is funny, because it's basically Mario. Sony used to have originality in spades with games like I.Q., Parappa, and Rogue Galaxy. Now it's just cinematic games and watered down versions of something better.
@@12ealDealOfficialTo be fair game can't always be 100% original.
@@L16htW4rr10r True, but kinda hard to say that when every game started following a formula
@@NrettGSony set a lot of those formulas, especially the “big budget cinematic game” one.
@@edwardmiller4562 and they ran their own formula to the ground
I can believe Concord is a 5v5 hero shooter. It looked like it had potential as a story-driven RPG. Especially with that trailer.
Max’s face in the thumbnail is the best reaction to this State of Play
Concord is basically just Guardians of the Galaxy
But the bad version 😐👎
From Temu
The absolute STATE of play
Concord should’ve been F2P. Nobody’s gonna spend $70 on an Overwatch clone
Out of this state of play, Astro Bot won me big time. It reminds me of the classic game of the past and boy i am so ready to play this game and support this cute little guy!!! I really miss these type of games. The remains of Japan Studio still lives!!!!
Astrobot seriously looks like a legit GOTY contender
No joke, it honestly looks like such a great game. I know it’s going to be soooooo fun!
Astrobot took all of the thirst from the Neptunia series and put it into Marvel Rivals' Gal Actus.
Hype for Monster Hunter. But also I'm kinda getting tired of the Samurai Soulslike genre or just feudal japan in general. It's like the new oversaturation of Zombie games that we had during the Left for Dead era of games.
10:08 To sum it up efficiently:
> Overwatch 2 is announced, it's a solo campaign and an update to the multiplayer in one package
> Updates stop for Overwatch 1 in preparation for 2
> No news for a while
> Releases Overwatch 2 as free to play, but only the slightly updated multiplayer
> "Solo campaign will release later on"
> No news for a while
> Solo campaign officially cancelled and reworked into paid story missions
> Release 3 missions, "we will release more in future seasons'
> No news for a while
> Story missions officially cancelled
> "Overwatch 2" is now just Overwatch 1 with extra balance patches
I genuinely love how all the comments on the new State of Play are just pissed at Sony for the state of the games industry their perpetuating and also shitting on Concord at every opportunity. Amazing. Better than the actual presentation imo.
Only things worth seeing were Monster Hunter: Wilds and Astro Bot. Those looked good.
Wouldn’t blame Sony for the entire state of the industry. It really every higher ups in companies and the players fault. If games like battle royal, hero shooter, extreme live service games didn’t make millions so easily than we wouldn’t be in this situation.
Poe2 didn't look good to you? Its literally the sequel to the best arpg out there.
@@Doggo4520 Gamers at large really need a change in mindset...
That was the new black PS5 Pro during Astro's presentation.
1/3 of this presentation was Concord lol.
13:45 Little did he know…
Yeah my worst fears were kinda realized with that SH2 Abstract Daddy fight showing.
A big loud fight in a big video gamey arena. The original room was small and enclosed for a reason.
It could just not the boss fight but at the hotel as they become regular enemies later on.
Concord looks interesting!
“it’s a 5v5 shooter”
Nvm.
the irony is, the fact they named it concord, means, if it bomb, they will make it pretty easy to compare with the plane of the same name that crashed on its first flight...
Personally I’m pretty tired of the quirky quip dialogue. Like the dude was hanging from a ledge about to die and he busts out a zinger..
Crappy mcu writing does not make for good characters
if you think this is charming you are a the witch that Hensel and Gretel put in the oven.
Straight up, Astro Bot looked like the most fun out of all of them.
With Astro Bot, it seem Sony just now remembered what people actually want- VIDEO GAMES!
Astro Bot is exactly what Sony needs right now, fun colorful games. The game looks amazing. Would like to see some Jak n Daxter, Mideval, Ape escape, Sly Cooper, shit lets BRING BACK TOMBA!
Really excited for MHWilds, and Path of Exile looking pretty good, let's not forget about Dynasty Warriors I hope it's crazy.
@@NrettG OH MY GOD
The astro tech demo is still one of the best ps5 games ive played, it was so good that i wanted a full game and they actually.gave it to us - thats a day 1 for me, one of the most refreshing game concepts ive played in a long time, it gives me ps1 and ps2 feels
Astro Bot gave me Little Big Planet vibes. I'll probably get it.
I was happy with this State of Play, Astro Bot and Monster Hunter Wilds was my Predictions and I hit, the hell do I really want more 😁
Idc what Max saying. That new dynasty warriors looks amazing
Man likes Monster Hunter, he has no room to speak when those games have literally been the same old run around and spend a few hours trying to kill one enemy and hasn't really deviated from that.
Swear !
Astrobot legit looks great. The only thing that got me excited at this event.
Only chad excited for Nikki Infinity
What even is that game?!
Absolutely. You never know someone discovers this and it opens things up for them.
lmao
@@nman551It's an open-world spin-off/sequel to a mobile game called Love Nikki: Dress-Up Queen.

What happened to that moon, Astronaut little girl game from like 2020?
That’s Pragmata. It’s being made by Capcom and it got delayed indefinitely.
@@razzlindazzle damn, appreciate the update.
It’s so funny seeing this after Concord’s launch
Sony treats every state of play like E3. Everything gets an unnecessary amout of time where the developers preach to the choir, and those not convinced will be convinced even less by the end. Nintendo keeps things short and sweet with their directs, giving everything an elevator pitch at most and moving on. This forces everyone to pick their words carefully and put their best foot forward.
It would be cool if we got a DW-like Star Wars games where you play as a Jedi and slice up battle droids.
Astrobot looks hype.
They didn't need to go that hard for an Astro Bot trailer, but I'm glad they did. That demo expanded into a whole game is gonna rock.
Astro Bot is going to be soooo good!
Bloodborne has a better chance of being in Astro Bot than getting a pc port
The hype for Astro helps show that a good number of people still want colorful, very stylized games (like me).
Not knocking Hyperrealism (especially RE Engine), but the visuals of Astro, Marvel RIVALS and even Infinity Nikky impressed me the most.
People used to complain about anime games, but those generic "hyper action" chinese games that never come out are getting annoying.
Astrobot sweep
Astro Bot is the first thing that has made me want a PS5. Just looks like a lot of fun.
Most other major games have come to PC eventually, but this will never.
They shown a lot of korean and Chinese games over the years for PS4 and PS5. Had any of them got released yet?
Wukong, I guess, is the closest to release in August
Max: I could be wrong, this could be Sony's Brute Force
Me: OMG would love for that game to come back 😂 Also how many people are gonna get that reference.
この人のリアクション観るの毎回楽しみな同士居る?
of course, max is love.
They're gonna be showing more MH wilds on Summer Game Fest.

Astrobot has me hooked
Okay, here's the part that confuses me the most about Concord. In the game the characters are Free Runners. They keep mentioning Free Runners So much that I'm like. Why the fuck is this not the video game title!? Why is it bot "FREE RUNNERS" instead of "CONCORD"!? The only thing that I can think of which would be kind of a stupid reason but I'd get it. Is that the term Free Runners would imply that it's a free-to-play game instead of a $70 game, which I still think is one of the dumbest decisions they've made here.
