In case anyone else is searching for a way to open this particular AC Delco case to refurbish them, a couple of small prybars make quick work of it. You'll just have to get creative to reseal it if you're sticking it back in a vehicle.
But yea for collecting acid just drill all the cells.

You only tapped one cell. You should get around 2 litres. Drill 6 equally spaced holes while tilting back, then dump it into a clean dry bucket. A full battery will drain in around 20 seconds. Looking carefully, I could actually see the cell divisions and where to drill on my acdelco.

Actually, pretty sure I tapped at least 2 or 3 of the cells, but you make a good point. That said...
I also knew I was going to take it back to the store for a core fee return, so I didn't want to make it look like swiss cheese 😝

Why are you doing this? I just need to know how to take the top off so I can add water.

Virtually all LA batteries these days aren't serviceable (no maintenance). When they're bad, they're done.

@@staciebamsch2810 The acid can be used for a few things, especially if you're creative.
